My wife and I recently stayed at Ruby's Cove. It was the perfect spot for us to stay during our week-long getaway from the city. With just three guest rooms and plenty of space on the first floor and on the expansive deck, we felt very comfortable throughout our stay. And Donna was a wonderful, gracious host. She was very accommodating to our arrival and departure times, and offered thoughtful recommendations for restaurants and other things for us to enjoy. We had an especially good time taking her bicycles on the short ride to the nearby Kontokosta Winery and 67 Steps Beach. We would definitely stay here again when visiting Greenport!! read more

The greatest B&B ever! Forget that it's centrally located -- but it should be noted that within seconds you can walk to all the restaurants and shops in the heart of Greenport. Forget that the rooms are more comfortable and relaxing than any other dwelling you've ever experienced -- but it should be noted that you feel instantly at home. Forget that the breakfasts are better than anything else you will eat for the rest of the year -- though it should be noted that the food is both original and familiar and you will not be able to stop eating what you're served, even if you're not hungry. (And as an aside, for those of you who come here and need many hours of recovery from eating and wine tasting and other gluttinous pursuits, Donna is not strict about the time breakfast is served. Hey, this is a B&B, not a weekend in army boot camp, okay? And while Donna is the most generous soul, you had better respect her and the time and effort she puts in to making you happy! Or else you'll hear from me! ;) ) I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH: the greatest thing about this beautifully stunning old Victorian home is its keeper, Donna. The second you meet her, you'll think you ran into one if your best friends from way back! Her sweetness and generosity and ebullience and tremendous sense of humor are all showered upon you and the only thing you'll regret is that you have to leave. But you will tell everyone you know about this place and right after you leave, you'll be thinking about coming back. Anyway, I'm writing this on the last night of our three-night Labor Day stay and while I am looking forward to eating nothing salads and celery sticks for the next week, I am sad to leave this house, which already feels like a second home. My first bed and breakfast experience and it is safe to say the best I'll ever find. From the moment you walk into Ruby's Cove you feel you are at home (except better decorated). The decor is beautiful and comforting, the town is quaint and perfect, and Donna (B&B keeper) is truly amazing. I was in Greenpoint and at Ruby's Cove for a wedding that was sadly effected by Hurricane Irene. Donna and many members of the Greenpoint community did everything they could to help all members of the wedding party have the best wedding they could under the circumstances. I cant wait to go back and spend more time in the town, at Ruby Cove and with Donna. Her home is beautiful and her cooking is fantastic. Before Ruby's Cove, I had never stayed at a bnb. I had no idea the kind of hospitality we would receive. Donna made us feel so welcomed, that we ended up staying an extra night! It is decorated beautifully, whimsical front porch and back yard, plush bedding and a fresh growler of Greenport beer in the fridge! There was jazz music playing on a beautiful Victorian record player and every morning breakfast was ready if you choose to have it. It also helps that Donna knows and is loved by everyone in the town so the second you tell them you're staying at Ruby's Cove, you get treated like royalty and also receive some great discounts that come along with the stay as well! If you're thinking about staying in Greenport, this is definitely your place. Don't waste the money on a hotel, support local! read more

We had the most amazing stay here for my milestone birthday! It was the perfect balance of a local feel and still close to some shops, restaurants, and a brewery! The room was just as pictured and everything was super clean. We met other friendly guests at breakfast and shared a priceless time. My 6-day vacation at Ruby's Cove was everything I was looking for in a getaway from Manhattan, on my own: quiet, relaxing but active and fun. The house: it is really, really beautiful, clean and quiet. The ground floor has several wonderfully decorated living rooms and a porch where you can relax. I was worried that in an old house you can usually hear everything but this is not the case - rooms are very quiet, located at the second level (nothing on third) and I did not hear any noise from the neighbor rooms. I liked that there were no TVs in the house but a very nice relaxing music playing in the living rooms. I was also worried that I had the room that has the bathroom across the hall (it is private) but it was OK - in the end it is a house, who has the bathroom in the room in a house? Location: it is really one short block from the heart of the village and one min away from the water. It is very quit, very few cars passes during day and I heard none at night (really!). The host: Donna is warm and fun and overall a great host! She helped me plan each of my days there with cool insights about everything! I felt so good that I did not realize I was referring to the B&B as "home" in my conversations Breakfast: Donna is an excellent cook - and I am a foodie! She prepares wonderful dishes with eggs and her French toast is - no kidding! - the best I ate. The breakfast is served at 10 am, which works well with getting up late. Or if you go for a quick swim or walk you can come back - trust me, you will want to come back and arrange your schedule so that you do not miss the breakfast! Activities: Donna helped with all kind of activities: biking (if you wanna be active you really do not need a car to get around and Donna indeed has about 12-15 bikes all type, shapes and colors- have fun trying them!), beaches, vineyards, concerts, live music, shopping, restaurants, etc. I am a big fan of the Square (30 sec away from Ruby's), with 4 different wonderful places, all under famous chef Keith Luce: Main - restaurant, Prep - take out, Nosh - salads, pastries and Meet - bar. I highly recommend you try all of them! From food, service to décor and live music they offer a great experience. Bottom line: I plan to return to Ruby's cove in a few weeks - I think it is gonna be my home away from home :) read more

Ruby's Cove is an excellent place to stay in Greenport. My wife and I recently spent the weekend and were treated like family. Donna, the owner, goes out of her way to see that your stay is comfy and enjoyable. She helps you with dinner recommendations, places to see, directions and even discounts to some of the north fork wineries. A delicious breakfast is prepared every morning by Donna who takes great pride in her culinary skills. We enjoyed baked egg dishes, bacon, sausage, pancakes, french toast and sweet potato home fries. Our room, the Ballast, was clean and comfortable with all the amenities. While our stay was exceptional, there are a few things that are not mentioned on the website that you should be aware of. First, each room has its own shower but it is extremely small. It is more than adequate but if you are expecting an elaborate in-room jacuzzi you will be disappointed. Next, there is not a single TV in the entire establishment so if you need your daily fix of CNN, then again you will be disappointed, but hey, you are on vacation anyway so deal with it. Last, breakfast is served at 10 am, coffee at 9. If you are an early riser then you will have to make other arrangements and miss the wonderfully prepared treats. None of these items would stop me from staying at the Cove again, in fact I know that I will sometime this summer. read more

I have been to several B&B's over the years and Ruby's is NOT your typical B&B. We left on Monday and I have yet to stop talking about it. Its current keeper, Donna, asked me to describe Ruby's in one word ...ENCHANTING !!! Ruby's makes you feel at home. I told Donna its as if the house is alive and knows just what you need. I left feeling like I had spent a weekend at a spa. I have never been so relaxed, so in love, so happy. I can hardly wait to return. Rubys is centrally located to town and everything (other than the amazing wineries) are within walking distance. This was our first weekend away from our kids and we were VERY nervous about leaving them. We found it hard to have a date night without talking about them, looking at their pictures and rushing to pay the bill so we could return home. It was as if Donna and Ruby's knew, and with the help of some wine tastings at Wineries suggested by Donna and some fantastic cheese purchased on Love Lane (another Donna suggestion!) we found a way to wind down, breathe and enjoy. Im not a B&B person. The ones I have stayed in have been out of conveneince or the lack of other accomodations. Rubys makes me want to love B&B's but I cant... because Im head over heels for Rubys! The decor is so warm and inviting. When you walk in you feel at home (but without the chores and stress!) . Its so inviting. There are spots to sit and enjoy morning coffee, evening wine and the most comfortable chairs where you can curl up and read a book. Donna's breakfast was AMAZING. People said they couldnt stop eating and I found that as well. When you are at Ruby's, you dont feel like you are a customer, you feel like a guest in Donna's home. Words cant describe how welcoming and accomodating she is. She is just one of those people who is completely and utterly genuine and has a heart of gold. We could want for nothing. The rooms were beautiful, each one nicer than the other. We stayed in the Madeline. The toiletries Donna offers are so amazing I spent hours in Whole Foods trying to find them. The bed was the MOST comfortable I have ever been in my life. (I really returned home and wished I was still in that bed!!!) The most signifigant of all .... (drumroll please!) my husband never complained about the lack of a TV. In fact, I think this might be the ONLY trip where he didnt complain ONCE! WOW! 11 years of a LOT of vacations and not a bad word to say! The pictures cant do it justice. Words could never describe how special this place is. You HAVE TO GO!!!!! This place was ok... I would definitely visit Greenport again but would probably stay at a different place. It wasn't bad. The location is great. Donna is very knowledgable of things to do but a little weird. The breakfast was ok depending on the day... She always served an egg dish and something SWIMMING in syrup... Not a diet friendly breakfast for sure... The place was clean but the bathrooms are very small!!! I'm 5'5 about 135 and I just fit. Overall, not a bad place. It's good for a short trip! read more

Ruby's Cove is soooooo awesome. It is conveniently located in the heart of town, not to mention next door to the Greenport Brewery. The check in experience was great. The B&B keeper (Donna) is so pleasant. She gave us directions which included a shortcut to bypass the town traffic. Donna offered many options for dinner, offered to make dinner reservations and told us about the local amenities. The rooms make you want to hanky panky alll night! Seriously, they are very romantic. LOL I'm not a big fan of breakfast but Ruby's breakfast is awesome. Donna really goes out of her way to make sure you are happy. You can take the LIRR here but you will have to pay for a taxi to the B&B. Donna can help you with wine country reservations. I am soooo looking forward to my next trip here. This was my second time staying at Ruby's Cove, and I enjoyed it even more than my first stay. The location is as good as you can ask for- it's across the street from the best restaurants and bars in Greenport, and is centrally located to everything within walking distance in town. Donna is what makes staying here so special. She is kind, welcoming and very thoughtful. I have food allergies and she made a delicious breakfast separate, just for me. She has about 6-8 bikes she'll give to you for the day, which makes biking on the Nork Fork or to Shelter Island a great day activity. The house was built in the 1830's and Donna has decorated it to make it feel like you stepped back in time.I highly recommend Ruby's Cove if you're looking to truly get away. read more

This was my first B&B experience, so it sets a high standard. The house is beautiful, inviting and comfy. Attention to detail was paid down to the different scents in each room, which ranged from cinnamon to lavender. The rooms are comfortable, the breakfast is delicious (she made us french toast, a baked egg dish similar to fritatas, and bacon), and the location is perfect - right next to Greeenport's downtown area. My girlfriend and I (both 30) stayed at Ruby's Cove recently during our first trip to Greenport. We had never stayed in a B&B before and weren't sure what to expect. We both loved it! First, Donna is a great host. When she realized it was our first trip to the area, she spent a lot of time helping us with suggestions, directions, menus, etc. She was also very accommodating before we had even arrived -- she sent texts to make sure we knew how to get there and set up plans to get us the keys since we were arriving later in the evening. Second, the way the library/den areas are decorated, along with the old-timey music playing in those rooms, made it feel like we had been transported to an earlier era. A very unique experience. I visited Ruby's Cove as a solo traveler midweek in an attempt to avoid burnout at work, and my attempt was quite successful. This B&B is beautiful and relaxing, with comfortable beds, a soothing Pandora playlist playing in the library, and a porch swing you could sit on all day. My plan was to do absolutely nothing for four days, and that's easy to do in Greenport. Not wanting to drive, I took the Long Island Railroad, which is walking distance from Ruby's, and I was able to walk around Gilmore Girls-esque town with no problem. The innkeeper, Donna, also provides free bikes, so I was able to ride up to the 67 Steps beach and Kontakosta Vineyard in less than half an hour. Donna took care of breakfast, making delicious meals that accommodated my dietary restrictions, and she has great recommendations for the best places to eat in town (sidenote: get the pulled duck at Noah's and the cucumber soup at First & South). I'm thinking of returning later this year and working from the B&B, because working from a covered porch in the North Fork seems much more civilized than working anywhere else. I'm hoping Donna keeps providing her midweek "stay two nights and get one night free" deal, because otherwise the rooms are slightly too expensive for me. They are worth it, though. read more

My boyfriend and I came up from Manhattan for a long weekend to stay at Ruby's Cove B&B. So thankful we did! It was a very easy trip from NYC and we loved discovering the charming town of Greenport while staying at Ruby's Cove. The B&B is perfectly located- only a 5 min walk from the train station and steps from all the shops and restaurants...there's even a brewery in the backyard! We enjoyed a trip to the Konkontokosta winery which was a 30 min walk from town. We also happened to go during the Maritime festival which was a lot of fun. The maritime festival included an adorable parade with pirates and mermaids, a kayak race, lots of lobster rolls and all the pumpkin beer you could drink! Ruby's Cove is a sweet homey B&B with a fun, welcoming host- Donna. Donna is wonderful! Her breakfasts of French toast, eggs and blueberry pancakes made each morning special. We also loved the afternoon treats. The house was full of charm, and we enjoyed sitting on the wrap around porch. It was the perfect escape from the busy city, with a very laid back vibe. I'd highly recommend a trip to Greenport and Ruby's Cove to anyone looking for a nice long weekend outside the city! read more

This place is a standout gem. It's a charming Victorian that will make you feel right at home. My husband and I had the privilege of staying at Ruby's Cove for a night...and we can't wait to return. First of all the owner,Donna, is amazing and couldn't be more accommodating. She told us all the great places to go for drinks, dinner and brunch. The location of this B&B was perfect. It was a few steps into town and we were able to walk everywhere. The stay was perfect. The room was well kept, beautiful and clean! Our room had 2 bedrooms and a full bath and was so comfortable. Ohhh Donna, where to Begin - To anyone reading this review, if you're researching Greenport and wondering where you should stay, I will tell you that you will regret not staying here. We found Ruby's Cove almost on accident and it turned out to be practically the highlight of the enitre trip. From the instant you walk in to this BnB you immediately feel warm and welcomed. Donna's bubbly persona attacks whatever else is on your mind and forces you into a completely relaxed atmosphere. This place is unique... It has a classic atmosphere while still managing to pull off a chic modern vibe. Its warmth embraces you almost as much as the town engages your sense of escape. Complimentary beer and wine, and an exceptional spread of appetizers just add to that feeling of relaxation that is exactly what you're hoping to find when you walk into a place like this. Now for the breakfast... I wish I could give 6 stars on this review blog. I'll give a little background... I am a self proclaimed "Foodie" and so is my other half. The two of us are self proclaimed amateur food critics and we can be pretty difficult to please at times. The Breakfast at Ruby's blew both of our minds. Donna's interpretation of a stereotypical breakfast menu, was delightfully exotic and even more delicious... Breakfast at Ruby's was nothing shy of an experience, which in my experience is clearly worth its own mention. I travel, pretty much for a living... Unfortunately most of it is work or business related. I've been everywhere. I've stayed everywhere and I've eaten (Just about) everything... This place is truly an experience worth every penny spent. Donna is a lovely host. The house is also lovely. The location is great. Two caveats: she serves breakfast at 10:00 am which is fine for someone staying in Greenport and wishing to sleep in. We were on the move to another location on our itinerary and waiting around for a late breakfast didn't work for us. So, no breakfast. The B&B ended up just being a B. Also, there is no TV in the room or in the public areas. Free WiFi was a plus. read more

I took my wife to Ruby's for our anniversary and absolutely loved it!! I had asked Donna, the owner, helped me out with getting flowers and some treats to make it special. I was really that extra touch that made a huge difference to me. We really enjoyed the Ruby's and plan to go back soon! My wife is planning on taking some of her girlfriends there when they visit over the summer. Another great thing about Ruby's is the location, it is walking distance to a restaurants and shops. The hubby and I decided to book Ruby's on a whim and we are so glad we did! We stayed mid-week just after Labor Day 2015. Ruby's is truly something special. It is a beautiful house with so much character and charm and we absolutely loved our time there. The location is superb and convenient - we parked our car and just walked everywhere. We could only stay for 1 night but we are definitely going to be back -- and we'll probably bring some friends! We were lucky enough to be the only couple there that night and we had the whole place to ourselves; it would be a great place to stay with a few friends. The hostess, Donna, was so lovely and accommodating and left some delicious snacks, a growler of beer, a delicious Chardonnay and Edith Piaf playing for our arrival -- so relaxing and such a lovely touch! Our room was so comfortable and beautifully decorated and for us, the bed and bedding are a very important part of staying in a hotel/B & B and these were both stellar. So comfy!!! The icing on the cake was our delicious breakfast -- we're more "savory breakfast" people and Donna made a scrumptious egg frittata that was delicious! I'm going to attempt to make it at home. Spent a weekend at Rub's and absolutely loved it. The house was very cozy, the location was amazing and Donna was the best. There's a really great brewery right next door and you can easily walk to everything Greenport has to offer within minutes. Donna was extremely outgoing and genuinely cares about making sure your trip exceeds expectations. I was up to go running at 8am both mornings and she caught me on my way out and gave me some recommendations on where to go. She pointed out a hidden beach that I ended up running to that might have been the highlight of the trip. She gave so many good recommendations I felt like I was a local. Breakfast was delicious and everything she mentioned more than lived up to expectations so definitely ask for her input. I plan on staying again! read more

If you want a cute, but stuffy New England style little BnB away from it all, go someplace else. If you want an eclectic BnB in the heart of Greenport...literally stumbling distance from the Greenport Brewery tasting room (which, obtw, has VERY neighbor-friendly hours) and every other restaurant, shop or sight to see, Rubys Cove is your choice. I surprised my wife for our anniversary and scored major points. The house is charming, with room to spread out and read, enjoy some music or an adult beverage in various sitting areas or the wrap around porch. If I had to gripe (in a review you always have to gripe) I'd say the breakfast was later than we were used too...but also ten times more filling than mere mortals are accustomed to and the bathroom in our en suite was small. But I'd also say the vibrant and meandering conversations with our hostess Donna, make you all but overlook that. My husband and I just returned from an absolutely incredible weekend at Ruby's Cove. Our stay was a gift from my mother in law, and what an amazing gift it was! Donna is a wonderful hostess and makes you feel incredibly welcome. She has done an amazing job decorating her house to make you feel as if you're traveling back in time. Each morning and night, my husband and I would lounge around in the most comfortable chairs in the downstairs living area and pretend we were living in another era. Donna also gave great recommendations for local restaurants, vineyards, etc... Plus, breakfast each morning was phenomenal. The overall location was also amazing as you are a block away from the Main St of Greenport...so convenient for dining out, going for a walk around town, etc.. I cannot say enough good things about our stay and hope we can plan a return in the near future. read more
