The photos speak for themselves. What an absolutely awful haircut! I now have to deal with an uneven, choppy mess that will take years to grow out. My hair is, well was until yesterday, all one length. Yesterday (12/9/25) I went to Ruby's Cut and asked Ruby for a very simple 1-2 inch trim, straight across the bottom, plus a bang trim. That's it. Ruby asked if I wanted layers and I emphatically said no. Instead, she bizarrely cut random pieces of my hair much shorter and at varying lengths than the rest -- so randomly and short that tufts stick straight out of my braid like I've been electrocuted. It looks completely ridiculous. The photos speak for themselves. In dismay, when I asked her what she did to my hair, she started yelling at me--I was stunned. English is not her first language, and I couldn't understand what she was yelling at me. The whole experience was surreal and unbelievably unprofessional. Needless to say, I will not be returning. I've been here several times with good results. Today I walked in and it was empty of customers with only this Asian guy staring at me like I had 2 heads. I asked, " Hey, is one of the ladies here?". He replied, "yah..". Then nothing but more staring. I felt uncomfortable and asked if she was available for a haircut, and the guy said. " YEAH, WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM?!?". I decided to just leave as the guy was being a jerk for no reason. I'm sure I can find somewhere less creepy. read more

I literally had the worst haircut of my life here. I wear glasses and can't see well without them, so every time I go in for a haircut I'm blind and there's a leap of faith I have to take. Kim was busy, there was someone else there to help me, but it turns out this person didn't seem experienced. They asked me how I'd like my hair cut, and I told them that I'd like it short on the sides and the back, but would like the keep the top's length; pretty standard stuff. They took about 30 mins to work on me and near the end, Kim came over, the two spoke in Vietnamese for a bit, and Kim took the clippers and did some touch up. Then she asked if I wanted to shave my eyebrows (????). This all struck me as a bit odd, but nothing prepared me for when I put my glasses back on... They gave me a buzz cut to the left of my part for some reason with a few wayward strands sticking out. I have no idea what possessed them to do this. The top back was also buzzcut. It looks pretty bad. Both apologized, but the kicker was that Kim's reassurance came in the form of her saying, "It's ok, men's hair grows fast. We'll cut it longer next time." I'm a pretty chill person, and not too particular about my presentation, but this disappointed me to the point where I had to write this. I wish they would have been transparent enough to communicate that I was being used as a guinea pig, so that I could at least be more diligent with putting my glasses on every so often. Now I'm wearing a hat every day for a few weeks because there's no man's hair that grows fast enough to hide this. read more

OK... found my new hair cutter. Cannot really call it a barber shop. Ruby was quick and did an outstanding job. My cut generally pretty easy...High and Tight on the side usually a 0 blade and front/back/top clean... sort of like a 2 week old high and tight for all of us that were in the military. Ruby is great lady, but she does have the gift of the gab... that really is the only negative I can say about her. As a hair cutter she does a great job. The shop is clean and floor is swept. Started coming about 4 months ago. Ruby's cut, amazing. $22 is such a good price for a men's cut. Only 1 lady cutting the hair. The two times I've gone I've been able to go in and out. Ruby is so sweet. She's usually in the back snacking or eating her dinner or taking care of something. However, comes out with a pretty little smile and is excited to cut your hair. Tone of voice is very calming. She asks what number you want on, 1-2-3-4. The lower the number, the shorter the hair. I like to be in the middle of 1 and 2. Love how my haircut turned out. She's so sweet. We were talking about life and she was telling me all these stories of "honey's". Very straight forward haircut. She does this really cool technique where she twirls the strands over the forehead and pulls and it thins out the hair in front/lines it up. Usually, after the haircut, she blow-dries the loose strands of hair off your head, shoulders, and face. She was so funny. After I got up, she took a towel and was wiping off the back of my neck to try and remove as much loose hair as possible. Really appreciate this establishment. read more

I hate now much a simple men's haircut costs at most places in San Francisco, but Ruby's Cut was actually perfect. It costs $25 for a men's cut and it's a quick, high-quality cut. I mostly wanted a tune up and clean up and it was quick and easy and the stylist did a great job for me as well. She was kind, fun, and efficient. The vibe was relaxing, welcoming, and overall had a nice temperature even on a slightly hotter day. Appreciate the service here. read more

I sent them a message through Yelp because like any good millennial I avoid talking on the phone at any cost. Turns out they could fit me in right then! I rushed over (parking was a bit crazy but they showed me where I could get a spot), was feeling a bit flustered from rushing and looking for parking but Kim was super chill and immediately put me at ease with her calm demeanor. I hadn't had a proper cut in a salon since 2019 (!) and had been cutting it myself when needed, but my split ends were just too much to deal with. Kim did a wonderful job of keeping my length and layers while getting rid of all the split ends. Was in and out in about half an hour and only cost $20 (pre-tip, please tip your hairdressers well because they were hit HARD in the pandemic). So happy I came here and will definitely be back. They do not honor appointments. Came 10 minutes before my confirmed appointment. One person was in the chair, two others waiting. I was told they were too busy. Try telling walk ins there's an 11:00 scheduled and they can wait! Lost me as a customer and 2 others I had recommended. Went somewhere else, and got a great cut. read more

Kind ? Friendly ? They are RUDE. I called to make an appointment, as people with busy schedules do. For them to be running a bit late is understandable. However, for them to slip another customer who walked in off the street when I stepped into the restroom was so wrong. "It's Okay", they said. Just a few more minutes. Seriously ! Do yourself a favor and don't allow them to walk all over you and waste your time. Thomas - it was not clear the "one more" was outside as there was someone in the chair. I called to make an appointment. YOU set the time. Evidently, what you are saying is you scheduled 3 people at the same time. That is RUDE. It is very inconsiderate to simply waste someone's time. You are responsible for maintaining your schedule. When I called, you could have simply offered me another time slot vs. shoving as many people as you could manage to fit in at the end of the day. I never stated I needed to get in immediately. Believing you had a cancellation and were hoping to fill it, I dropped what I was doing and rushed over there. I am so disappointed. Of course I left. Did you think I was going to spend the night? I have things to do. Getting a decent haircut is a priority. went to this place for the first time, just looking for a cheap haircut. i paid $30 for a womens haircut in which i got 2 inches off and some bangs. She did a great job, only took like 10 minutes, and it looks great. she trimmed my hair with scissors and did my bangs with a razor, she was an expert and made my hair look great. great option for the price, will def return! read more

Although their posting says "by appointment only", please disregard this. They take walk ins and don't honor appt. I made an appt for my son. There was on patron getting a cut and another waiting. We arrived 5 min before our appt and we were told to wait. I asked the manager, do they honor appts.? And he said yes but the walk in "waited for over 15 min." So then I tried to explain then appts are not honored. Essentially if a walk in arrives before a scheduled appt and their service cannot be fulfilled prior to, then the walk in should have been told, there's an expected appt. would you like to wait". This is how appt are honored and to me this is best customer service. Other potential customers should know appt are NOT honored so probably best to not make one. read more

Came here for a quick haircut. I needed to trim off my nasty dead split ends but wanted to keep my long layers. Kim was so attentive, so sweet, and made sure to give me just what I was looking for. She even picked out and trimmed off a bunch of my white hairs haha. My hair feels much healthier but still voluminous! I have been going here for the past year, but on the last visit a person cut my hair who clearly had absolutely no idea what she was doing -- at all, like what scissor to use, where to start, or how to ask how the hair should be cut (I don't think she spoke any English). The main haircutter had to repeatedly interrupt her work to explain things to my haircutter and to cut my hair, which was unfair both to me and the other guy getting his hair cut, and ultimately she wound up cutting both our hair, going back and forth. It is flatly unacceptable for a hair cutting business to bring in someone who really, really doesn't know anything about how to cut hair, and my hair is really simple to cut. read more

Ruby gives a good consistent haircut each time. No frills or extras; quick but thorough job. Nice friendly service too and there's a jar of lollipops for your kids. I like this place much more than some others in the neighborhood on Geary, especially Dick's because unlike Dick's, you don't have to play Musical chairs to avoid the awful "barber" at the front. Kim took care of both my son and I with 20 min notice. She did not rush the client prior, which I value. My 10 y/o son is a bit anxious about clippers but she was gentle and patient and finished with scissors. She listened to what we wanted. Also, she checked in as she went and it came out really nice. Really great for only $15. My $22 haircut and wash was really a long(4") trim and bangs trim. The shampoo was really relaxing and felt good. She followed my hairs flow( curly/wavy) and layers. I had a wonderful and easy experience and walked out with a bill of only $37(+tip)... With SF pricing going crazy this place is a relief and parking was easy! She is super detail-oriented, paying extra care to perfect the shape, length, and body of my hair.
