I brought my 2.5 yr old for a haircut. They don't have the fun car salon chair so I brought things to help distract him. they were super patient with my little guy, and I could tell they wanted to give him a good haircut. I've tried 2 other places in SF and this one was the best haircut. They offered him a lollipop and coffee to me. He wanted a haircut that required a razor but he was terrified of the razor so we did a scissor cut. Stylist did a great job! read more

Eyebrow wax = $12 + $2 tip. I think I can find better for $14. Ladies were super nice, but the job wasn't great and ambience definitely doesn't make up for it. The upstairs reminds me of an abandoned dentist office; just a chair that's left . read more

I originally started going to American Beauty Salon for a manicure & pedicure. Anna & Stephanie were the best. This is 2006 or so. I really liked that a lot. My feet aren't very good so this helped them a lot. Memories! I get my haircut there. That started around 2008-09. Haven't gotten my hair cut anywhere else. Elaine does a great job. She washes my hair before cutting it. My hair always looks great. She trims my mustache, eyebrows. Tami has cut my hair many times and is wonderful. Jane cut my Mom's hair when my Mom was able to drive or take the bus and get around. Mom said Jane was real good. The people here are friendly, professional. When you leave you look great, feel great and there are a lot of positive vibrations about this place. Plus its a neighborhood place and I like that a lot. read more

I live in the neighborhood, and prefer to patronize salons, and services, that are close-by. For years, I attended a hair salon that is well known, and well appreciated. My dissatisfaction was NOT with the quality of the work, but with the "spotty" schedule of open hours. That became a problem, for me. I tried other venues, discovered American Beauty Salon ... and, never looked back. That was 3-4 "ish," years ago. Recently, I have learned that two of my former colleagues had been patronizing American Beauty, for many years. One has moved from California, and the other I ran into at the salon. The atmosphere is casual, and comfortable. Jane is great at cut/color. She, also, has a great sense of humor. As of my last visit, a few weeks ago, they do not have a manicurist/pedicurist on staff. So, if a one-stop "hair/mani/pedi," is important to you, this might not be your ideal place. (However, there is no shortage of excellent nail salons in the area.) read more

Elaine was great! I came in as a walk in and was out within a half an hour - and I had 4-5 inches of my long, thick blonde hair chopped off. She was so nice and gave me tips for styling and what to expect when the layers begin to grow out, etc. and you can't beat such a fair price, and it's a few blocks away from my apt. I get my brows done here and they always do a very nice job - no burning you with hot wax or leaving you looking like Phyllis Diller or someone who looks permanently 'surprised'. I and my husband go this place for over 25 years! I love this place. First 10 years, Elaine always did my hair, then she moved overseas because her husband's business. I also ask Jane time to time. She is also good. And, the past 15 years, I ask Tammy. She is wonderful. She always make hair cut on me exactly the photo model and so sweet that she makes hot tea. She actually listens to what I want done - and how - and doesn't deviate from requests. At the same time, she offers useful tips for hair health and styling without pushing a product or services.
