A hidden little gem in Mohegan Lake. The staff is very nice and has no problem taking the time to explain the menu. I will say that the food can take a bit long to prepare but that was very clearly because they were making everything fresh. We ordered a dosa to start that was delicious. Then the Goat Pepper Fry and the Lamb with Cream Sauce and Apricots (sorry can't remember the Indian name!) and of course Garlic Naan which was delicious. The food was great and more than plentiful. This place is all about the all you can eat buffet. For just $10 you get access to a wide variety of delicious Indian delicacies ranging from Nan bread to Curry Eggs to delicious butter chicken. I was pretty hungry and pretty much served myself a bit of everything. The mushroom stew was great and went awesome with the chicken. There was a lot of variety but my favorite was the mango cream dessert. The bartender was really nice and gave me details of the various,exotic dishes. I am sorry to say but the food we ordered this evening for take-out was not very good. My total bill was $63.01 for three adults. My family loves Indian Food and we usually hit a place in Ardsley, NY on my way home from the city from work (I drive for a commute). But since I was off this week sick we decided to go to the local Indian place Ruchi Indian Cuisine in the Beach shopping center. My wife insisted on it since she remembered good things about this location, but I don't remember the food being that great. Anyway, the wife always wins, or at least in this case. So my favorite and my son's favorite is Chicken Tiki Masala. Our order was VERY watery, not a thick consistency that I like and am used to at our favorite place in Ardsley. It was cooked fresh but had not much flavor to speak of. Very bland. I thought maybe because it was just cooked that had something to do with it being watery, but even hours later after refrigeration, it was still very watery. Very disappointing. My wife ordered Lamb Curry and although it was fresh and not terrible, it was not great either. Our Naan breads were fresh and were fine (I ordered Garlic, Mirchi & Naan-E-Sultan). I called at 4:40pm, but was told to call back at 5pm. I thought that was odd to turn a customer away so close to scheduled dinner start time. If you answer the phone, why not just take the order and say order will be ready 30 minutes after 5pm instead of making me call back. I am sorry to give such a poor review, but this was our actual experience. My wife wanted to call the restaurant to complain and get our money back, but I reminded her of Judge Judy's phrase that if you eat the steak, you must pay for it. We were all hungry and ate the food we ordered, but it was not great Indian food as we hoped and expected. We will not return and will venture out further from our home town to get the Great Indian Food we deserve and paid our hard worked money for. Thank you. read more

I'm actually disappointed in this place. My family and I used to go here all the time and the food tasted amazing and the service was great! Now the food is very watered down, the curry doesn't taste as flavorful anymore. The people are still nice but the atmosphere has changed. I think it may be the only Indian restaurant in the area and thankfully, it's really good! Their samosas are big and flavorful, although a little salty. Chicken tikki massala is good and they give you a variety of sauces with your order. I have stopped by for their lunch buffet before with a friend and we both enjoyed it. The waiters are quick and friendly and it's a very relaxed atmosphere. There is a good selection of curries and fried vegetables. Pretty filling and a good deal. read more

We have been to Rachi many times and we were never disappointed. The exception to that was Saturday night. We started the meal off with Lamb Samosas and they were wonderful. Next we ordered a chicken dish which was yummy. But, we also ordered a lamb dish, which left a lot to be desired. The lamb was tough and not edible. We sent it back with the initial two pieces missing. They did not even ask us if we wanted an alternate dish. The rice was great and the naan,which had meat and vegetables in it, was excellent. We love this place. For the most part we do take-out from here and the food is always top notch. Like most indian restaurants, they give you way too much rice for a take-home order, but i would not really call this a fault. They make incredibly good Dal. I have been eating dal for a good part of my life, and cooking it every since I became an adult. I have received pointers from Indians, and of course follow Madhur Jaffrey recipes, but the ones they serve at Ruchi's are heads-and-shoulders better than any I have had or made. We like all their dishes with spinach and the lamb dishes are good. The one knock against them is the Tandoori dishes. We are not a big fan. We always end up with these containers that are full of raw onions, a few pieces of dried out meat, a large chunk of underdone baked potato (why are indians serving baked potato?) and some pieces of undercooked bland tomato. Everything else we have tried is excellent. They always very friendly, service is prompt. I highly recommend this restaurant! read more

We are from out of town staying in Peekskill for a just a couple of weeks. I am sad we won't be able to eat here after our stay because it was great! We got the Lasoni Gobi, Palak Aloo, and Roti bread for take out. They even included chapati and rice pudding for no extra charge! Ordering over the phone and pick up was easy, food was hot. My husband and I have traveled extensively and had Indian food in many different countries (sadly not India yet) and this food was up there with the best. Keep up the good work! read more

During my random as hell visit to Peekskill, I had a craving for Indian and Yelp once again led me the right way. The place is a little difficult to find as it is tucked into a strip mall, but very much worth the trouble. Lunch buffet is amazeballs. For $10 and change, you can gorge yourself on some yummy treats. My top choices were the lamb.vindaloo and the tender paneer in its green sauce but there were about six more options, not including the two salads and mango dessert. Vegetarians will be happy too, there's plenty of no meat selections available. I could only stomach two plates, but I was able to fit in a mango lassi which was nicely poured into two glasses by our server. The server was extremely attentive and ambitious-he was the only one working the front while several tables were eating. My water was never empty and plates were whisked away quickly. There's a full bar here too with a small seating area if you want some alcohol with your naan. How convienient! This restaurant is fantastic and I'm certainly going to add it to my list of random excursions. read more

The first time I went to this restaurant I kept wondering why name it Ruchi? The food did not have any Ruchi (means taste). We went there again after a couple of months (heard that there was a new chef) noticed that the Ruchi of the food got better. Been here several times and have tasted all the vegetarian dishes. I feel this restaurant caters more to the American palate. The Masala Dosa was okay. The Samosa was not bad. The Vegetable Biriyani was good. Do not order the Idli because they are not fresh. They are pre made and reheated in the microwave. The coconut chutney is also not fresh. I think they make it using dried coconut powder and not fresh coconut. read more

Service was friendly but slooooow. Emphasis on slow. But! The food was great. The restaurant is on the smaller side with about 12 tables. It was half empty on a Saturday evening at 7:00 pm. My husband and I shared the Chicken Curry, an order of Naan and the Avial (a dish with Plantains, yams, beans, carrot, and squash.) According to the menu the dish was supposed to come with Vegetable Drumsticks as well, but didn't. I actually decided to eat at Ruchi because I saw this dish on the menu. It did not disappoint. At first I thought it was covered in sprinkles of Parmesan cheese but after further tasting I realized the vegetables were covered in minced garlic. I loved loved loved it. While waiting for some auto parts to come in for the truck, I find myself craving one of the highlights of living in the city - Indian cuisine. I have to say, I have visited quite a number of Indian Food establishments and have been fortunate enough to have excellent food at many of those spots. This place is awesome. Simply put, and no strings attached, this place has spicy goat vindaloo that is actually spicy! The buffet was a nice selection and totally worth the price tag, I actually find it more than affordable. Drink selection was solid, and the beer selection featured 4 beers brewed in India. What is up with all these great reviews? First off let me say service is GREAT! That is the ONLY reason I rated this place so high. Now on to the "food"...it was soooo BLAND. I went for their lunch buffet ($10) and they had the normal small selection. There was no flavor let alone any Indian flavor to their dishes. Did they even use spices??? It wasn't spicy either, for some I guess it's a good thing but not for me. Every dish was so watered down. Not sure if they did that for cost or for their clientele. Great buffet choices! Consistently good food every time we have come here. The surroundings are pretty basic, but the food won't disappoint.

First time coming here, it's not bad and I'm glad that there is finally an Indian restaurant in the area. The staff was very friendly and the place was pretty cozy. We got a free appetizer because of the Super Bowl. Overall the food was good, my order got screwed up a little, but that was because I ordered paneer tika masala, which was not on the menu, so I think there was a miscommunication. This place was surprisingly hard to find at first (nestled in a big strip mall), but the dosas were very much worth the search! A nice blend of South and North Indian cuisine, and fairly vegan-friendly too (apparently, you can get the palak made without cream). They took it a little too easy on my girlfriend and me (as non-Indians) with the spiciness of the mysore masala dosa, so I'll be sure to ask them to up the dose next time, but I guess it's good that the place can be safe for people with a milder palate.
