I really enjoy having this market close to the house, plants, flowers, veggies,fruits, nuts & grass fed beef. I'm sure I missed something all in 4 to 5 aisle to load the basket with. This time of year it's all about the Watermelons, Honeydew, & Cantaloupe. Which are amazingly delicious on these 100+ days we've been having. My family and I used to visit this market (Rufe Snow Farmer's Market) weekly for fresh produce, however we stopped frequenting them when the business was sold to new management. Given that this market had been generally known for quality produce, we recently decided to revisit the market (under the new management). While generally clean and well-presented, we do not feel that things are not up to the same standard of excellence as before. We fully understand and do not expect farm-market prices to be competitive with larger (chain-type) stores, however we felt their pricing excessive given the quality of the produce and overall experience; their prices are somewhat higher than those of competitor markets of a similar enterprise. read more

This was once the BEST PlACE in Tarrant County to find consistently GREAT Peaches in the summer. The former owner has sold it and the new owners are ABSOLUTELY CLUELESS on how to pick good Peaches. They don't even care when I mention the former owner and how he could teach them what a great peach looks like. Hopefully, I can find a new place in NE Tarrant County to go. Rufe Snow Farmers Market is bit off our regular path, but if we are driving by we will usually stop in to see what's fresh (my wife is a stickler for fresh). When shopping here, it's pretty much always for fruits and vegetables, and as far as fruits and vegetables go, they are what they are supposed to be... Fresh. I guess it's pretty standard for farmers markets, as Rufe Snow Farmers Market has more than just fruits and vegetables. e.g. plants, dried fruit, candies, salsa, and even Dublin Dr. Pepper (and cake mix). I've driven by this place for years but never ventured in. The store is small but has a decent selection of foods. They have fresh homemade tamales, fried pies, an array of fruits, vegetables, juices, frozen food and nuts among other health conscious products. They had one of my favorite juices (Santa Cruz), so I opted for that. The prices are decent depending on what you get. The two ladies at the front were easily approachable if we had any questions about the produce. I wouldn't mind coming back here and trying some of their other products. read more

And I wanted to like this place so much as it's just down the street but the young cashier who checked me out was unbelievably rude and unhelpful. I felt unwelcome to say the least. Man I hate rating a farmers market lower than 4 stores cause I married into farmer extended family and my grandpa was raised farming ... but Given that there are a few farmers markets in the area I wish this one would better price to compete with what else is in the area even just with other farmers markets. .69 cents per pound of dole bananas when I saw an advertisement for .33 cent per pound at winco regular price for same brand is about .40 cents at most any other regular store so skip the bananas unless getting the deal on the supper ripe ones for banana bread ... blueberries on sale 2 for $4 or $5 at another local farmers market when this one is about that much for one. I will keep coming back to try to help support the farmers market but I will also be a little more careful what I do get given that this particular one is on the high side even for farmers markets. I even over heard someone having a conversation about prices going up on their eggs as I left and having friends with chickens I don't think they've ever charged me what this farmers market was already and about to move their prices up too. read more

I have only been here a few times because each time I have been underwhelmed. Today I stopped by to get some cut watermelon. I typically buy mine from sprouts but was headed the other direction so stopped here. My first thought is they are crazy high for average products. The produce at sprouts is way cheaper and just as good if not better. My biggest issue today though (other than the rude girl asking me for cash instead of using my debit. Card) was the watermelon I bought. When I got home to eat it, this is what It looks like inside....yuck! Wasted 4 bucks! I will NOT be back! read more

Are you from out of state? Then don't go here, the old man owner was rude and made a comment in regards to my out of state team affiliated clothing assuming we were from there. We aren't from there but we are from out of state which is obvious due to the fact that we don't look inbred, bathe daily and don't drive like shit. We went out of our way to go there to help a local small business but my mistake. So if you're not a local spend your money elsewhere, like a place that doesn't care where you're from but appreciates you spending your hard earned money there. Very disappointed with this place. We went by to see some plants and while browsing I asked one of the guys if they had a clearance section. He abruptly said "no we don't do that." So it seems as though the plants get thrown out (saw a plant near the trash)instead of giving them a chance to survive by discounting them. In addition, we saw a bush that was pretty dried up at about $80. I recommend you all have a discounted section. Even if you don't have this option your employee shouldn't have been so rude. read more

Every time I come in to visit my dad likes to bring me be here because he understands my love for fitness & nutrition. I usually find something interesting besides fresh produce here. The chip selection is huge; I don't normally eat chips but I always manage to walk out with a bag here. This time I tried the baked lentil chips, which were very good. I was also surprised to find a box of Eng lightened Bars, which were delicious (and 8g protein!). I didn't get any on this trip but the homemade tamales are really good too. If you're in the area you really have to stop by; there's no way you will walk out empty handed :) read more

Really 4.5... I used to shop here on a regular basis as I would run in on my way home from work. Since I became a SAHM, it's not as convenient for me to get to. They still have quality produce (way better than Sprouts) and I enjoy that they have local (N. Texas, not just DFW) products available. Now they're offering more variety in terms of gf/non-gmo/organic products, continue to sell Texas Tamale Co. tamales, and have a beautiful selection of flowers/plants out front. After getting some good deals and trying the fresh peaches, I will make an effort to shop here more frequently. read more

I recently moved to TX and am in search of a local place to purchase fresh produce and with it being summer, especially tomatoes! Tomatoes are my fav! We probably went too far out of our way to visit this little shop but it was pretty much right on what I read in Yelp reviews. Very healthy assortment of fresh veggies and seemed to be pretty local within Texas. They had east TX tomatoes and a lady came in and was confidently picking up some tomatoes and I asked her opinion and she said "the sweetest thing you will ever put in your mouth". I purchased several. Prepared some with dinner that night and they were tasty but far from the sweetest. The family did enjoy them. Veggies were neatly organized on trays on about 3 rows and looked pretty fresh and nice. Picked out a couple of Visalia onions but a few were soft and slightly mushy which isn't good. I had read about some fresh squeezed lemon juice that was organic and I picked up a couple of bottles. Made a glass of lemonade for my daughter last night and she said it was delicious. They have a freezer section that had some fresh frozen peas, crowder peas, corn, squash, that were packed locally. I brought home a pkg of peas that the family enjoyed creamed. Like I said this place was way out of the way and nothing was spectacular to the point I would make my way over again but I did buy over $50 worth of goods. read more

So for some reason this afternoon all of a sudden I decided I've GOT to have green beans and new potatoes (with corn bread and a tomato salad) for dinner tonight. A number of months ago, I saw Paula Deen make a dish of new potatoes and green beans that looked so yummy that I made it a few days later. Fast forward to today, and I decided it 's time again. Then I though 'Hey! This is a perfect time to check out the Rufe Snow Farmer's Market'. And off I went. I've driven past this market more times than I can count and always say I'll stop by 'next time'. Well, today I made a special trip. It's not that far from where I live, but I usually go to the farmer's market on Davis since it's closer. Anyway, I was surprised by the variety of stuff they had. The produce all looked great. The green beans looked as if someone had just picked them. The same with a bunch of celery I bought. Besides fresh fruit and vegetables, they have milk, eggs, salsa (mild, med, hot, x-hot), queso, tamales (frozen, refrigerated, and warm), dried fruits and nuts, jarred condiments like pickles, jams/preserves, Boar's Head products (meats and cheeses), natural chicken (frozen). What else? Honey, bread, tortillas. There's more, but you get the idea. I was able to buy what I needed for tonight's dinner, and then some thanks to the frozen chicken. I did buy some of the salsa since everyone is raving about it. It is pretty good. I bought the medium and it does have a nice kick to it. I think I'll have to try the hot and x-hot, though. While the salsa does have good flavor, it is a bit soupy. I think I may drain it a bit and save the liquid for some Mex rice. Anyway, gotta get started on those beans and potatoes! read more

I live maybe a block from here, so I sometimes walk or make a quick drive here to get some fruit or veggies. Overall, I'm not particularly impressed by this place. While they do have a decent selection of non produce items, I've found that much of the produce is the same as what's available at other stores, but at a higher price. I've seen stickers on some things that are exactly the same as the ones I see daily at Albertsons (where I work). Perhaps they offer a larger selection in the warmer months? For now, I'll stick to buying the bulk of my produce at Kroger, which actually has a larger organic selection as well as pretty much anything else you can get here (minus the salsa.) If you don't shop organic, then do some price matching at Walmart rather than fork over your cash here. read more

Now that I've had the opportunity to shop here with some frequency, I have got to say that they have incredibly helpful staff, delicious produce, and still the best salsa ever. I had THE best peaches of my life last weekend. Here's hoping that this week's purchase ripens just as well! The seedless watermelon is incredibly sweet - they can pick out great ones in a matter of seconds! Still haven't tried the tamales. They have the best granola. My favorite is the maple pecan. I also like the vanilla almond. I eat it as a cereal or with yogurt. I have also purchased tamales, tea and fruit. I wish they offered their milk in half gallons. I will have to try their fresh vegetables the next time I visit. read more

The last few times I went there, I got rotten cucumbers and the lettuce was yucky. The place is becoming less of a real farmers market, and more of a glute-free place for people with dietary restrictions. The prices are high, and the owner's wife is VERY unfriendly. read more

I love this unassuming little market down the street. They are loaded with high-quality seasonal produce and a lot of specialty and local items. The staff is always nice. Prices are pretty competitive with Kroger and Sprouts, and the quality is always good. Listen closely. NEVER BUY KALE ANYWHERE ELSE! It's this huge glob of kale that costs $1.50. It is always fresh and never has mud and sand on it. Every time I buy kale from anywhere else, I end up kicking myself for not buying it here. It's not a great place for weird produce, people who buy only organic produce, or out of season items. That being said, their tomatoes aren't horrible in the winter, which is nice for all you mater lovers. They have some bulk type items that are of good quality and a ton of unique jams and relishes. I could stare at that shelf for hours. I've seen quite a few gluten free items too, if gluten gets your goat. Their prepared salsa, guacamole and queso look amazing. I've also seen some local meats and eggs. A few of my faves: fresh local tamales that come in 3 different vegetarian favors, kale (duh), lettuce, fresh herbs, any seasonal fruit (grapefruit season changed my life). read more

In my mind, Rufe Snow defines what a farmers market should be. Plenty of excellent, super-fresh produce. A wide range of products for growing, cooking, or preserving your own food. Plus a whole section devoted to local pickled stuff, sauces, honeys, candies and nuts. We shopped regularly until we moved out of state. Sadly, we've yet to find a place here in Colorado that can hold a candle to Rufe Snow. (So every time we come back to DFW, we have to leave room in our luggage for some pickled carrots and cherry sours!) read more

I've been thinking about it for awhile, RSFM, and I have decided I love you a little. You always have ripe and inexpensive giant Mexican Avocados. That totally satisfies my daily requirement of guacamole. Local tomatoes? Check! Squash and sweet potatoes? Check! Local honey for my poor nose? Check! Basically, I can meet all of my veggie needs with mostly local produce for way less money than my grocery store and that makes my fruit bowl look pretty, keep my little family healthy and I feel like a better mom. Although these Farmers Markets seem like non-profit granola vendors - they are not - they are private enterprises, and survive or fail like any private business. Tara L. was right on about the salsa. the medium one has a perfect kick of spice and i received tons of comments on how awesome it was from my guests. i also picked up some chocolate covered banana chips which was also a hit. the fruit looked great as well as the preserves and snacks that they offer. read more

They also have a kiosk at the register that keeps a running tally of how much you have spent. You can get free items in the store along the way or (I think) save them for a visa type card. read more

The Rufe Snow Farmers market is a staple in my weekly shopping. It's not a big place but they cram a good selection into a small place. Free range hormone free eggs are sold in cartons of 20 and they're huge. The produce will hands down beat any grocery store. They carry hormone free meat products, all-natural peanut butter, dried fruits, home style preserves, vitamins and so on. Don't drive by this place or through the area without stopping. I shop here every week, and have for several years. I'm familiar with the produce quality at all the surrounding stores, and by and large this place is the best overall, which is saying something considering a Sprouts just opened up down the street. Now you can say that other markets carry the same produce, which at times may be true, but there are different grades even within brands. If you don't believe me, simply buy some Cuties from the Walmart neighborhood market, then go to the Rufe Snow farmers market and try a bag. You be the judge. I always ask the owner, who is usually around, what is good that particular week, It varies by season, and sometimes some things just aren't very good no matter where you go. For instance, tomatoes in the winter just suck everywhere. But RSFM carries a smaller variety they call "Gourmet Tomatoes", about the size of a ping pong ball, that are very good all year round. This time of year (February) their grapefruits are exceptional, slightly ugly on the outside perhaps, but plump and sweet on the inside. They have some little sweet potatoes that heat up on the microwave nicely and are very tasty. I always get the large Hass Avocados 2 for 5 bucks. If they are a little too firm I let them sit on the counter for a couple days. Don't get me wrong, I also like to shop elsewhere. I really like Sam's produce, especially their Cuties and Kiwis and Grapes. Sprouts also has some really great deals and is worth a trip. I also occasionally get stuff at the Walmart Neighborhood Market, but only when I'm being lazy and am quite often underwhelmed. I have shopped around other farmer's markets like the one off Davis and the Colleyville one (not a fan of either) and I keep coming back to RSFM. Next time you are driving by, do yourself a favor, stop in, see if you can find the kindly, tallish farmer looking guy and say, "Hey, what's good today?" You'll be glad you did. read more
