Over the last 20 years I have used 5 different kennels in two states for my three dogs. Ruff Ranch is the BEST. My dogs have all loved it from staying overnight to daycare. They are excited to be dropped off and happily tired when they come home from so much playing. The owners and staff are amazing and take such great care of your pets. Over this last Thanksgiving my current dog, Daisy, got a urinary track infection. They called me immediately and arranged for appropriate care and medicine. Above and beyond care during their super busy season. Daisy is in good shape as she regularly runs with me so I have always been curious how much exercise she actually gets. I recently got her a Whistle GPS tracker. She averages 7.5 miles of activity daily while playing at Ruff Ranch! Amazing:) read more

Five star business for sure!!!! I have been bringing my dog here for boarding over the past couple of years and keep coming back. This is one of the only places my pup gets excited to come to. He starts whining as soon as we pull in! My dog is always happy to see all of the staff members. I trust the people here. When I was nervous, they answered all of my questions with the knowledge and experience I was looking for. They also treat me with respect. I feel they really value the people and animals who come through. They also seem to be very knowledgeable about dog behavior and how my dog interacts with other dogs. I have been boarding my dogs at Ruff Ranch for various trips over the last year or so. This place is fantastic! The dogs are kept in a play area during the day so they get lots of time to socialize with other dogs and play, play, play! At night time, the dogs are put into large kennels indoors to allow them a quiet, safe place to rest. The kennels are kept very clean and we have never had any problems with communicable illnesses, fleas, ticks, etc. Reservations are easy to make by phone or email and there are convenient drop-off and pick-up times. I recommend Ruff Ranch to all of my friends and neighbors. Our dogs love it there and Marci, the owner, is so wonderful. read more

Our dog thinks this is a really, really cool place. In fact, it is his favorite place to go period. Meaning he prefers Ruff Ranch to a hike, a swim, a trip to the dog park ... basically anything. You can tell because when we get close he starts whining and flopping around in the back seat. So while we lived in Austin, we kept making the two 1+ hour round trips to take him there and pick him up when we traveled. He always came back real dirty--means he was having fun outside--and tired. At least he was tired by his standards. The owners and staff are very friendly and, more importantly, very knowledgeable about how dogs behave (when you get there notice how great their own dogs are and how well trained). They manage the interactions between the dogs conscientiously so that everyone gets what they need and has plenty of social time in keeping with their temperament. The owners, Marci and Tony, will talk your ear off about this aspect of their business if you want. It's fascinating, IMO. So, your dog won't be just stuffed in a crate! I'm pretty sure that they don't offer special services like hikes, grooming, or super fancy rooms. Honestly though, I haven't ever had a dog who cared about that stuff and you probably haven't either. So take your dog there and hose him off when you get home or drop him at the groomer if you have to! You owe it to your best friend to give him this experience every now and then. read more

Our Great Dane puppy Babadook has been coming to Ruff Ranch several time now. We couldn't be any happier with the way they treat our Babadook, every time we pull up he jumps out and runs towards Marci (he even forgery see are there hahah). Marci is so sweet and attentive to all the dogs and puppies there. I feel at ease leaving my puppy there because I know he is well taken care of and most importantly he is having fun! I recommend this place to anyone and everyone. Trust me your dogs will love it there! I used this place for the 1st time last week. I love that the dogs get to play outside together in large yards, in a great county setting. I have one older unnentered male and a young adult pit mix. It's often hard to find a place that will take a pit mix or an unnentered male dog (even if the dogs don't play with other dogs). At Ruff Ranch the dogs are placed in play groups based off their personalities, not their breed. Both of my dogs got along great with the other dogs (as I expected - they're great dogs). The prices are FANTASTIC! When we got home from our weekend away, the dogs were so worn out from playing all weekend, that they slept the evening and night away. I will definitely be bringing my pets here in the future for daycare and boarding. I highly recommend Ruff Ranch if you are looking for a caring place for your dogs! read more

Our dog has been coming to Ruff Ranch several times over the past 6 months. This place is perfect for dogs that love to socialize with other dogs. They match our dog Jake with the right playmates by their size and temperament. They get to play all morning then go feed and nap at lunchtime for a couple of hours. Back out to play in the afternoon. Then tucked away for dinner and bedtime in the evening. Before finding Ruff Ranch, my dog hated being boarded. He would go into depression mood and not eat while at other places, but not at Ruff Ranch. Jake loves it. read more

I would NOT recommend this place to take care of your dogs. My husband and I have been bringing our dogs here for almost two years. They have usually been very good with our dogs with the occasional extremely dirty and muddy dogs upon return. The owners are very personable and the area is fun for the dogs. We dropped our dogs off thanksgiving week because we had a death in the family and needed to travel out of town. When my husband went to pick up the dogs he noticed one of our dogs was limping and had a swollen/fluid filled area on the side of her body a little bit bigger than the size of a baseball. Apparently she had been limping for a few days. 1. We were never notified that anything happened to our dog until we picked her up. 2 . They didn't even notice the swelling till my husband pointed it out when he picked her up. 3. They didn't bother to take her to the vet or call us to ask if we would like them to take her to the vet. I call to speak with the person in charge. I speak with someone and when I ask who will be responsible for the bills when we have to take our dog to the vet. Immediately, they state "you signed a contract". Seriously? You'd think with us being such repeated customers that they'd own up to their staff not supervising our dogs appropriately, AS WE WERE PAYING THEM TO DO. None of the staff can tell us what happened to our dog, so no, they were not being supervised 24/7. The person began to give me an example if you have a child and they are in soccer and get injured by another kids shoes that you wouldn't blame the other child or have their family pay for xrays, etc. BUT that's not the correct example. The CORRECT example would be, lets say you PAY someone to babysit your kids. One of your kids was not being supervised and fell down the stairs. They are now limping. The babysitter does not call the parents. They also neglect to take the kid to the ER. THEN they insist you pay them for their services, as well as pay for the ER visit to make sure your kid is okay. Yes, things happen, but own up to it. We trusted this place to watch our dogs. You'd think they'd show some compassion and not charge us for the stay of our injured dog. Overall, the owners and facility are great until something goes wrong, then its on you and your responsibility because it was "in the contract". read more

We dropped our two girls off here for a two-night stay. They are rescues and I'm not sure if they've ever been boarded before, but we wanted to get them comfortable with it in case we can't always get friends to watch them. We also wanted to test it during a quick trip where we would be close by in case it didn't work out. Coffee, the bigger one, can be a jerk sometimes when she's scared so I was nervous about how she would do in a strange place without her mom and dad around. Wanting the best for them and not knowing how they would do, it was obviously really important to find a great place that would give them a positive experience. I saw the reviews of Ruff Ranch and their proximity to our house was a bonus so we decided to try them out. They spent two nights and almost a full day there and when I went to pick them up, they looked so happy and worn out! Marci said even Coffee did great! I felt so relieved that the girls felt comfortable and were well taken care of. We are definitely going to be repeat customers any time we need to board our babies! read more

The staff is super friendly and all the dogs seemed super happy. Also, the rates are amazing! My puppy had a blast. The only thing I would want next time is a bath. My puppy played so hard and was filthy, which I wouldn't have minded if it were a quick trip home. However 2 hours with a stinky dog was rough! Love love love this place! Nicest people ever, great prices and fantastic with the dogs. The ranch it's self is perfect for our pups. They get to play all day in the play yard and relax in their clean comfy kennels during lunch and overnight. Seriously the best place for our dogs in Austin. My dogs love going there to play with other dogs! We've only taken them to day care, but we'd most likely board them there in the future. They get to play all day except from 12-4pm. That's when they get to rest, plus it's so hot outside! It seems like a long time, but they go out to play again from 4-6pm. They close at 6, but I wish they would close later like 8. My dogs come home so tired it's great! The price is really reasonable too. The location is right off of 1626 in Buda and it was easy to miss the first time. I think they should really get better signage that is more visible when driving down 1626 where the speed limit is 60/65. The owners, Marci and Tony, are great! They're very nice people and so good with my dogs! I've been meaning to take advantage of their package deal of 10 visits at once (which would be 5 visits for my 2 dogs). That brings down the cost to only $14.50 a dog! Great deal. And now they take credit cards. Definite plus! read more

I don't know why its been so long I have not reviewed ruff ranch yet. My dog loves going there as soon as we exit in Buda she starts getting excited as soon as we turn onto the gravel road and see the horses she can barely contain herself. Absolutely love this place, and so do my dogs! Tony and Marci are wonderful and obviously love animals. They have open play time for the dogs on lots of land. The dogs get to play with the other boarded dogs and they are separated by weight groups. Every time we drop them off, they run towards the play area. I rescued a dog in our neighborhood that no one else was able to catch. After 3 days of not being able to touch her she decided I was to be her new owner. She was still very scared of others. Only a few months after rescuing her, we were headed out of town for a month. After speaking with Marcy, we decided to give Ruff Ranch a try. My concern wasn't really of the facility, but rather, if Faith (our rescue dog) would allow them to handle her. She's a non aggressive dog, but fearful, and a runner, so leashing her could be next to impossible if she didn't trust you. I was so pleased with everyone's patience with Faith, and the love they gave her! All of Faith's experiences at Ruff Ranch has allowed her to grow, to trust people, and we now know that she LOVES other dogs...before we weren't so sure!! This is a great facility, with great owners who truly care about the doggies! Don't hesitate in boarding your pup here, they will have a fabulous time!!!
