Sesame has been hiking with Eva since she was 10 months old. To say Eva is a great dog walker really doesn't capture how wonderful she is--I think of Eva more as Sesame's guardian. She takes care of Sesame like she is part of her own family. She picks burrs/foxtails out of Sesame's fur (this is no small task because Sesame is a furry labradoodle), is concerned when Sesame is not well, gives me great advice on dog care/training, and even hand fed Sesame when she was staying the night at her place because Sesame was being picky with her food. Sesame always has a great time on her long hikes and is exhausted when she returns. I occasionally will take Sesame to Funston myself on a day off work and have run into Eva there with her pack--she really keeps those dogs moving! They are having a great time playing together and chasing the ball. But most importantly, it's very noticeable how Eva truly cares for each of her dogs. She watches them closely and talks/interacts with each one. No wonder Sesame is always wagging her tail (and entire butt) when Eva comes to pick her up. read more

After working from home for the past couple of months, we realized quickly that we needed a solution to keep our dog from crying and whining when my schedule finally changed. We found Eva off Yelp, and met with her to discuss the possibility of "half day doggie daycare," which is actually just taking the pups down south to her large, sprawling property where dogs can do whatever they want. Our dog is an old grumpy gentleman who prefers to bask in the sun, sniff all the things and enjoy his time in nature, so this seemed like a perfect solution for us. We are incredibly happy with Eva's services so far. Her prices are more than reasonable, she texts us for updates and posts videos and photos on her instagram (ruffridersk9) and keeps us updated on how Clark is doing. If I am home and if she brings Clark home, she updates me on his condition and lets me know how he's doing there. It's clear to me that she brings Clark home happy, well exercised, and safe! She thoroughly explained her services, and Clark loves her-- she's even given us some suggestions to help with his training. When Dani, my lab/husky mix graduated from SF Puppy Prep's daycare program at six months old, I began my search of an equally incredible young adult program with similar due diligence as a human parent researching kindergartens. Eva is a magician, she is both dog whisperer and incredible human communicator. She takes my young and sassy pooch and tires her out on epic hours long odysseys to the beach or her secret spot in Pacifica. She's extremely experienced and knowledgable and more importantly understanding about my concerns and keeps me up to date about changes in behavior and health. The dog loves her, and waits hopefully for Eva on days she is not scheduled to come. She's shares photos of the dogs on outings via instagram and leaves us prints too (amazing). My family does a lot of travel over the summer, and Eva has been amazingly flexible and reliable about our changes in schedule and location. She's a rare gem. read more

Eva is nothing short of a treasure. I have a dog who loves other dogs and is very shy around people, and of whom I am very protective, so finding the right dog walker was a challenge involving several interviews that went nowhere. The minute I met Eva and saw how well she understands dogs, all of my anxieties vanished. She let him take his time to sniff and get to know her, and by the end of our initial interview she had already won him over. By the end of a week he was so excited to see her in the morning that her face would get covered in kisses and my velcro dog would happily leave me to go play with Eva and her pack. A year later and I am amazed at the change in him that her leadership and training have helped support. He warms up to people so much more quickly now, and is the gentlest treat-taker you have ever seen. She has gone out of her way to help me find a vet, gotten me and Helo connected with some fantastic scent training classes, and has been incredibly flexible with my occasionally crazy schedule. She is a straight-up awesome human being and one of the few people on the planet that I implicitly trust with my dog. I am convinced that Eva is worth her weight in gold. read more

Eva has been walking my dog, Willis, for years now. Not only do I trust her implicitly with my pride and joy, I have seen her in action at Funston many times. She devotes hours to her hikes . . . and really exercises the dogs (unlike many dogwalkers I see at dogparks, standing there talking on the phone while the dogs wander aimlessly). Given her dog training background, she's also made valuable suggestions to help with my little guy's anxiety. And because he's been part of a pack since he was a baby, Willis has no issues with dog aggression or socialization. I have no idea why it took me so long to write this, but Eva and the other Ruff Rider crew are amazing! Every time my little guy Baxter comes home he has the biggest grin on his face and is obviously soooo happy. It's clear that he's getting great exercise, because every time he goes out with Eva (twice a week) he basically passes out for the rest of the night. I'm assuming he's having cute little dreams about frolicking at Fort Funston with his buddies. Eva also took the time to teach Baxter amazing recall, which is priceless :) The only downside is that I think Baxter may prefer Eva over me and my husband! read more

Eva has been walking my Yellow Lab 'Monty' for at least 3 years and she's great! Very reliable, flexible and easy to work with! Our goldendoodle puppy Yoshi was in Eva's "pack" for over a year, and we all (parents included) had a great experience with Eva. She's extremely responsible, flexible, and reasonable, and was attuned to Yoshi's needs and well-being -- for example, she would point out when he seemed to be sick, or when something seemed to be bothering him during play sessions. We particularly loved seeing her Instagram posts that featured Yoshi hanging out with all of his doggie friends -- definitely the highlight of my workday when I scrolled through my IG feed and saw Yoshi digging holes or chasing other dogs around a huge field. Most importantly, Yoshi would get home from Eva's playgroup and immediately pass out from exhaustion. It was really easy to communicate with her via email and text, and she gave us lots of advance notice around scheduled vacations, in addition to real-time updates when she was running late due to weather/traffic/etc. Eva also connected us with another set of dog parents whose dog Yoshi particularly hit it off with, and we've had weekend dog playdates, and even overnight playdates when we're out of town. When we moved a couple weeks ago to the suburbs, Eva had another playgroup recommendation ready to go for us, and passed along a good referral for Yoshi. We were so sad Yoshi had to leave Eva and her pack! But would highly recommend Eva for her off-leash walking services. read more

If I could give more stars I would, Eva and Emiliana of Ruff Riders K-9 Adventures make our pups lives exciting, full of adventure, and always with positive training. Balthazar and June Bug couldn't do without these gals. We have no worries, ever, when are pups are in their care (for almost 6 years now). When we go on vacation and our pups stay with them, we know that our pups are on vacation - when we come back, they are thrilled to see us, but are so tired from having such a great time. Go with Ruff Riders if you want your pup(s) in the best of care. And, if you ever need help with your pups - can't figure out what's going on behaviorally - they will take the time help you troubleshoot what to do to make you and your pups happier. Honest, consistent dog walkers are hard to find in SF. That's why Eva Lauderbeck and Ruff Riders are a diamond in the 'ruff(pun intended). I should have written this review ages ago as Eva has been walking our motley pack of 3 for years now. She's a consummate professional who truly loves the dog she walks as if they were her own. I work from home, so I get to surreptitiously listen to all the loving she gives our pooches while she puts their leashes on! Eva Lauderback, the owner of Ruff Riders, is truly amazing! Our 2 year old beagle, Ziggy, started going on hikes with Eva and the other dogs when she was six months old. When Ziggy started with Eva, she didn't know how to walk off leash. So, Eva trained her to be off leash which is amazing as beagles tend to let their noses lead them away from the pack! Eva is always on time picking Ziggy up and keeps her out for a long time. I would say on average at least 3.5-4 hours. Because of the rigorous walks, our beagles is one of the fittest in town, which is great as beagles can tend to be on the heavier side! Eva has also helped us with other training tips for Ziggy because she is a certified dog trainer through the SPCA as well! My husband and I are both teachers and Eva is very flexible with our schedule and will often take Ziggy for double walks if our schedules keep us out later than we want to be. (You can choose between a morning hike or an afternoon hike) Eva will also allow us to keep Ziggy at home from her walks if we happen to have a school day off. When reseraching dog walkers before finding Ruff Riders, other dog walkers I looked into had a very strict attendance policy and would only allow your dog to miss a walk for a certain number of days a year! Eva also will take Ziggy to her house for sleepovers when we go out of town. While I can go on and on about how happy we are that we found Ruff Riders and Eva, my dog is Eva's biggest fan! Ziggy cannot wait until Eva comes and picks her up every morning. She bolts to the door when she hears Eva put the key in the lock! Her tail wags furiously and she even has been known to let out yelps of excitement. It must be the hugs, kisses, and yummy treats Eva gives Ziggy while on the hikes! People have told me and my husband that we are way too obsessed with our dog (and we are, I admit it) and we would never leave our dog with someone we did not 100% trust..and we trust Eva more than anyone with the safety of our little Zig Monster! Any dog lover should seriously consider using Ruff Riders. Eva is knowledgeable about dogs and how to train them. Eva is a dog expert who will love your dog as much as you do! I honestly cannot say enough wonderful things about Eva! My dog, Monkey, goes on daily walks with her to Fort Funston. Even though I seldom have the occasion to see Eva in person, I have had multiple neighbors come up to me telling me how much she clearly loves Monkey. Admittedly, Monkey is a bit much to handle. He is as nosy as they come and listening skills are not his forte. That said, Eva has been so patient with him and always looks out to make sure he's nearby and safe. She has provided me really useful tips to help Monkey improve his recall and we met Eva once for a one-on-one session for training. She clearly knows dogs really well as adores them. Monkey absolutely loves her and he can be a bit of a discerning guy. He definitely doesn't love everyone. With Eva, he is living the life and is happy as a little clam. Eva is a total pleasure and it's such a relief to go to work each day knowing my boy is in great hands. I cannot recommend her enough! Thank you Eva!!! read more

The Ruff Riders crew has been walking my dogs for years and I can't say enough great things about them. My dogs come home exhausted and they seem to be trained too....!!! She always give me a report when something is up so it helps me monitor the dog's health and behavior. I highly highly recommend them. I cannot begin to adequately explain how wonderful Eva is. She is incredibly knowledgeable about dog behavior and is great at explaining why a dog may act or react a certain way. As first-time dog owners my partner and I have benefitted greatly from Eva's services and expert knowledge. Eva and crew are the best- they are super-responsible, always friendly when you have changes or things come up and best yet- our little yorkie LOVES them probably as much as he loves his moms ! He is always super-stoked to see them (even after 3 years), he is always tired at the end of the day (no small feat with a little dog) and the peace of mind knowing that our sweet poochie is taken care of is worth every penny. Eva's rates are extremely competitive, they go to Ft Funston which is the best dog place and she trained him- so he actually is safer off-leash than before we had them.....They are also beyond helpful and responsive if you have to get a hold of them with a change for the day, or you are dog-sitting and have an extra dog.
