If I could give 0 stars I certainly would. This company completely destroyed my high quality wool rug which Is worth thousands $. They wrapped not yet fully dried rug inside of the plastic bag. Cleaning service is good, damage repair is not so good. We had four area rugs serviced - mainly cleaning for ~$3000. For one Tibetan rug we requested additional repair: hand fringing to replace the worn edge fringe, for $560. Nine moths later, their fringe is detatching from the rug (and not from undo wear.) Rug Renovating's repairs, it turns out, are warrantied for 3 months, & the only option our representative there offered was that we pay for a whole new pickup/cleaning/repair/return at full price. Sorry, but such a repair should last years (especially at $560). The fringe repair/replacement was shoddily done. Otherwise, the original coordination of logistics (pickup, return) was easy & professional. I But, I would not recommend Rug Renovating for repairs. read more

I'm updating this review to state that Paul Iskyan, the owner of Rug Renovating, who replied to my post and others on Yelp whose carpets were ruined by Rug Renovating has sold the company. He will not respond to emails despite posting to reach out to him to "make things right". If you call the number he provided, they will tell you that he is no longer with the company but that you can email him at: Pauliskyan at gmail. He will not reply to the emails and the new company now has no contact with him, so they claim. So to those of you who thought that maybe your grievances could be heard and remedied when Paul responded to your post, you are out of luck. There is no way the new company will take responsibility for the damages that occurred when the company was under Paul Iskyan's ownership. My hunch was that his reaching out to those who placed bad reviews was a rouse. He offered help to "make things right" for a company he no longer owns. Sleazy for sure, and those of us who had very high quality carpets destroyed are basically out of luck while Paul tries to save his reputation on line. What a scam! Rug Renovating ruined a number of our rugs in its cleaning process. You might think its a good practice on their part that they take intake photos, but if they plan to ignore the after photos, which clearly depict complete color changes ie, taupe to purple, burnt edges and rippling of rugs that used to lie flat, then the 'before' photos are not of much use. This is the experience we had as we sent them multiple pictures (including their own) in multiple emails over multiple months asking for some kind of acknowledgment/restitution, and got no response. Nor did they respond to a request for a refund of the over $5000 we paid them for cleaning. We were initially recommended to this company by a reputable rug dealer who had them on their list of approved cleaners; they have since been removed based on our experience and documentation. Any reputable business would apologize and refund the cost of the rug, so the customer can purchase a new one. Certainly, they have insurance to cover them for situations like this. A double bait and switch. Picked up a rug and claimed repair would cost $350 for a stain. Upon receipt, upgraded cost to $950 because "the stain was worse than expected" (ok) and another $300 because "a corner was ripped" (also ok). Then, sent us an estimate with a random line item for $600 more for "SILK REMEDIATION SERVICES." Only 1 problem with this -- the rug is not silk! No one signed off on that, but that didn't stop them from trying to upcharge us anyway when they dropped it off. Asked our contact repeatedly for any record of anyone having authorized the additional (and nonsensical) service. She said she would send it to us, and then forwarded us an email that said the opposite, in which we agreed only to the original service. When I pointed that out, she had no evidence and no good response other than "well, we did it, so you have to pay for it." I would like to believe this is a good faith misunderstanding from the other reviews, but the attitude of the merchant and failure to recognize and address their error suggests otherwise. Avoid. Rug renovating review DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I have waited several months for some sort of response from them, but receiving none, not even an apology, I am posting this review. Some years ago they cleaned two of our rugs, including this one, and they came back fine. I sent one to them recently for cleaning again, and it came back DAMAGED. There were several "slits" or cuts on both side edges (see photos), In addition, there were (it's hard to describe - best to see the photo) what I would call vertical "rub marks" in several places along the same edges. When I talked to the representative, she said she'd "have to talk to her manager." After which she said they would repair it, and "we re-weave entire rugs, so I shouldn't worry about a few little cuts, they could repair them and they wouldn't be noticeable." They picked it up the next day. When I spoke with her again, she said the rug was "brittle," and that that was a code word for "dry rot." That was not disclosed to me when they first received the rug before cleaning. If that was true, they should have alerted me when they received and inspected it, that there could be a problem cleaning it because it was brittle (which it is not). They returned it one month later. From a distance the repaired cuts are not visible, but on close inspection you can see them (see photos), and the rub marks, which had to have come from going through one of their machines, are still there. One small cut, which did not go all the way through, is also still there. The delivery sheet, which they throw in front of you to sign after laying out the rug, had several "Condition Codes." "Out of shape," "Discolored," "Faded," "Nap distorted," "Extremely soiled," and "Black stains. I hand wrote "Not happy with repairs to cuts, and vertical "stripes" remain. None of this was disclosed to me upon the first receipt of the rug, when they ostensibly inspected it before cleaning. Clearly they did not inspect it. Or if they did, why didn't they inform me before sending it through the machines? No mention of it being "brittle" or any of the other codes they put on the sheet after they returned the second time. I would strongly disagree with it being discolored, faded and out of shape. Yes, it was dirty - that's why I was sending it to be cleaned! When it was returned, the colors stood out brilliantly, the nap seems fine, and there is nothing distorted about it. If there were black stains, they're gone. Again, that's why I sent it to them. To clean it! If these were the conditions of the rug, they should have reported them to me on inspecting it when they first received it. They did not. These conditions just appeared on the sheet I was given to sign after delivering it the second time, and not in words, in codes. (#01, #03, #05 etc.) Worse yet, there was no apology from anyone at the company for the cuts or the rub marks (clearly made by one of their machines, despite my noting my displeasure with the repairs on the delivery sheet I signed. When I had it cleaned the first time, the same representative gave me a tour of the process, which looked like going through a car wash). The reply from the owner to another negative review was that they offer a "100% risk free money back guarantee." There was no offer of a reimbursement for my damaged rug. For the few hundred dollars I was charged, it will not be worth suing them, and they will claim it was the fault of the rug's condition, but if you look at the photos, you can see that the rug did not do this to itself upon being cleaned. I'd very much like to see the "money back guarantee" along with a sincere apology. To be sure, Yelp is not the only place I will submit this complaint. read more

I had a positive experience with rug renovating a couple of years ago, so went back to them when I needed another rug cleaning. This experience was less positive--they surprised me by saying the rug needed a bunch of repairs and the job involved extra charges, none of which they recognized as necessary when they cleaned the same rug a year before without identifying any necessary repairs. Ultimately the cost of the cleaning/repairs was comparable to the value I place on the rug and I was on the fence about whether to just say "keep the rug" or have the work done--I ultimately opted to have them do the work because it seemed easier at the time than buying a new rug. I still don't know how the work turned out, because months afterwards, the rug is still rolled up on my floor. The reason for this is that they didn't bring the pad when they delivered the rug, at a time when we had arranged for them to install it. The pad came later, but circumstances at that time meant we couldn't have RR staff lay down the rug and pad (which involves moving some heavy furniture). Months later I still haven't figured out how to get that done, as I can't do it myself and we don't have others into the apartment for maintenance. I don't put this all on RR--a big part of the challenge is on our side as our living situation makes it difficult to have people in the home to do simple maintenance, but at the same time, if the pad had come with the rug originally, the installation would have been done months ago when we had planned for it. I'm assuming they did an OK job cleaning the rug (as I say I still don't know as it is rolled up on my floor!) but given the expense and the problems with installation, I regret the whole transaction. read more

Have a valuable wool and silk full room area rug (14X20) never cleaned for 20 years. Rug was starting to show age and some wear. RugRenovating picked the rug up (which involved moving some heavy furniture including full 9' concert grand piano. Rug was returned on schedule and replaced on floor with utmost care and professionalism. The cleaning job was spectacular. Rug looks like new with brilliance of color restored and nap spring and full. It was a complicated job because of the mix of materials. We are absolutely delighted with the job on all levels. I am still basking in admiration over my two area rugs which were returned to me yesterday! Since my elderly Mom passed away three years ago, I was faced with the arduous task of renovating my apartment. I struggled with the idea of having my two area rugs cleaned before painting because they had not been tended to since 2006, Believe It! I was embarrassed to call anyone to have them cleaned, and I was told to just get rid of them, they were too far gone! Mulling over this, the rugs came from Bloomingdales and Ethan Allen, I couldn't accept throwing away quality rugs to spend thousands of dollars to buy new ones! I sheepishly called Astoria Rug Company for advice! To my utter surprise, Laura told the company still had me on record since 2006! I later found out that the company is now 'Rug Renovating Co'., and was assured that something, indeed, Could be done to have them not only cleaned, but the fringes, which my late Mom ruined with her walker & wheelchair, could be repaired By Hand!!! I took the chance and had them sent out! What I saw brought me to literal tears! The rugs came back after two weeks, not only cleaned to look Like New, the fringes were repaired to Near Perfection!! In my wildest dreams, I Never thought I'd see such a miracle!! As for the men who came to take the rugs and return them, all four of them couldn't be more Friendly and Accommodating! I only wish I knew their names to mention them on this review! The first team went to great lengths removing the rugs from the apartment. Upon return yesterday, the second team painstakingly replaced the rugs in the right areas to precision, and they cut one of the new mats to fit the dining room rug. I want to thank Laura, who showed such professionalism and patience in assuring me everything would be alright. Top recommendation! I have a 9x12 handmade rug, which besides needing cleaning, it had some pulls which I wanted to repair. I called and spoke to Lenny, who couldn't have been nicer or more informative. He asked me some questions about my carpet in order to give me an estimate, but since I was a little unclear about some of the 'facts' about it, like was it handmade...he told what the cost per square foot would be if it was handmade or machine made. He said he would have the rug picked up, looked at, call back with the estimate, and if I didn't like it, he would have it sent back no charge! Now I ask you?...when does THAT ever happen? I was instructed to call between 4:00 & 5:00 the day before scheduled pickup to find out the 'window' of time they would be coming, the men came for pickup when promised. Lenny then called me after the rug was evaluated, and told the price. They also sell good pads, which I needed a new one, to replace the ratty foam meshy thing I had. I was called when it was done, and told when to expect it, and again could call between 4-5 the day before to find out what time it would be arriving. I was told between 10-2, and they were here at 12:30. They laid out the carpet for me...which entailed lifting my incredibly heavy sofa (ugh) and two overstuffed chairs (double ugh). And honestly, I didn't think the carpet was all that dirty, but man, when they laid it out, it looks clean! It's all bright and happy now! In short, they had no hidden costs, let me know everything upfront, called when they said they would, and came when they said they would. YAY! read more

Pottery Barn mis-advertised a rug as 8' x 10' and when received, it was 8.16' x 10.25. I had designed my dining room around an 8' x 10' space. Since all the colors were coordinated and the design of the rug was ideal for the room, I didn't choose to exchange the rug for a different rug as PB recommended. I had Rug Renovating trim the rug and whip the edges. They came and picked up the rug and in 2 weeks, returned it to me in a clean and perfect condition. As a professional organizer, I have referred Rug Renovating to several clients. We had a rug cleaned and sent directly to storage during a client's renovation. The rug came back bubbled and discolored, essentially ruined. After 2 weeks my email was unanswered so I sent a second. I was told that it was beyond the 30-day guarantee period and that they are not liable for problems but that she would speak to an expert. DON"T USE THIS COMPANY! I would use any other rug cleaning service you can find. Initially, they were pleasant and gave competitive pricing estimates. They kept quoting $110 for machine made and $140 for hand made for the rug sizes I gave. The minute I committed, the same woman had TONS OF ATTITUDE and was completely RUDE. The prices came in much higher (but then of course, they already have your rugs and it's too difficult to get them back.) Of course, every rug they had, they INSISTED they were handmade (to secure higher pricing.) This hidden gem has been around for ages! I had them clean a 7x10 rug that my doggie seriously peed on. It had gone all the way to the padding underneath. I thought I was going to have to throw out the rug. I took it to them, and about 10 days later I got my rug back in brand new condition! It was fabulous! I can tell they got everything out because my doggie has not had the urge to pee on it again! Great job, and I would definitely recommend them. read more

It's difficult to leave this review as RR is professional and good to work with. They are prompt, know their stuff, and I felt I could trust my priceless, wool&silk, family-heirloom rugs with them. They do a fantastic job cleaning the rugs. But this last time, they did some weaving work to the corner of my long-fringe rug and the rug came back 1" shorter on one side of its long silk fringe tassels. It's like THE nightmare scenario. Once cut, the silk fringe is lost. When we spoke on the phone, they offered to cut the other side for me and said "they didn't know how the other side could have left without getting trimmed either". That's it! They did not have my permission to CUT my rug and did not call to check with me whether I wanted the fringe to be cut even if they decided it was necessary. It was not flagged in their initial review when they had flagged the corner needing re-weaving. To me, it seems obvious that an error was made and the fringe was cut even on one side only in order to hide that error. I would have preferred to have a few tassels shorter than to cut the entire side of tassels short. The drama of the rug is completely gone; now it looks lopsided and irregular. read more

I posted a previous review of 1 star as a result of the loss of a rug valued at $896.31 by Rug Renovation when I sent 5 rugs for moth treatment and cleaning several months ago. I also complained that they were charging me $400.00 for an attempted repair of color run on my favorite kilim, having damaged the rug in the attempted repair. After several months of emails with customer service I was credited the $896.31 for the lost rug and not charged $400.00 for the failed color run repair to the kilim. I appreciate the adjustment of charges for the rug repair and rug loss and commend Rug Renovating despite the arduous process. I still have regrets that I allowed them to do the color run repair with a promise of 40% t0 60% restoration since the attempted repair bleached the vibrant red color of my favorite rug beyond repair as a result of repeated attempts to correct the color run. As a rug cleaning company they do a good job as well as repair of tears, but I would advise caution of any treatment that involves color restoration. read more

This company does a wonderful job cleaning rugs carpets and furniture. Tony, Dulio and Carlos worked extremely hard when replacing our newly cleaned rugs to make sure placement was perfect. Everything about the company from the initial contact to the pick-up by courteous, professionals who wouldn't let me even move a chair, to the suggestions for repair (which were absolutely warranted, but when I declined there was absolutely no sales pitch) to the 3 men who delivered the beautifully cleaned carpets and spent a great deal of time moving and lifting a very heavy table perfectly onto the cleaned rug--all was perfect. I think their prices are reasonable, and the whole experience turned out to be delightful--something I didn't expect. In the future, I won't just send my rugs out to be cleaned sight unseen. I will look at them in the presence of a company representative so we are on the same page about what they look like before cleaning. I will either take my own photos or ask to be shown the "before" photos to be compared with the "after" photos. Actually, it makes sense to do business that way. No, Mr. Iskyan, I was not alerted to a specific 8' x11" patch four shades lighter than the rest of the rug that I don't believe was there when I purchased the rug nor since. I was asked if I wanted repairs done but I didn't want any repairs. There was no mention of a large and much lighter patch. I thought the rug looked good enough as I do not mind worn places. I knew there were worn spots and where all those were. But that large patch I had never seen before is the only thing that stands out in what you say are the before photos. I know it's a very reputable company, which is the exact reason I chose RR in the first place! However, I have learned a I was shocked when my rug came back with a 8" x 10" patch that was four shades lighter. When I complained, the company said it was like that originally and sent me what they said was a "pre-wash" photo that indeed showed the glaring discrepancy. When I objected that it could not be so, I wasn't blind, I knew my rug, I was told that maybe I hadn't seen the area because it had been under a piece of furniture! My advice: Make sure you have gone over with a representative exactly what your rug looks like before you engage services. Insist they send you photographs BEFORE they wash, that you sign off on, so there are no bad surprises. This should be standard business practice. My expensive 9x12 wool rug was stained due to water from heavy rain that came through the air conditioner. One section of the rug was ruined, it took on a great deal of water and dirt that was lodged in the air conditioner. When it was delivered, I was not happy with the results and Paul was extremely understanding and agreed to work on the rug a second time. The work was spectacular and I'm extremely satisfied. Although they were more expensive than the others they were prompt and reliable in picking up my Persian rug, providing me with a detailed report on the rug's condition and then returning and placing the rug back in its original position. I had an 8X10 rug from Pottery Barn cleaned. Rug is 10 years old, and this was first time I had it cleaned. Rug was picked up and delivered back on time. Looks like new, very clean, and all indentations from furniture placement are gone. Keep in mind your rug may shrink a bit from the cleaning (this is normal). Stay away from this company! I had previously used them for a half a dozen rug cleanings, and was satisfied. Then they came to pick up the same silk rug which they had cleaned before, and treated it as a wool rug. Basically this process ruins the rug entirely. I gave them a second chance to pick it up, make a wrong a right and they ignored everything and cleaned it as a wool rug a second time! Further damaging it! I could not ever get a hold of a manager- they were very unprofessional every time I tried to speak with them about what happened. We found Rug Renovating based on feedback from our neighbors. We had two big rugs that needed cleaning and de-odorizing after years with elderly dogs, as well as a remnant that needed to be trimmed & bound and an antique rug that needed cleaning and repair. At pickup, the drivers were pleasant and informative. They suggested custom-cut rug pads, which I hadn't realized were possible and which I am SO glad we ordered, as well as a special odor-removal treatment for the doggy rugs. (We had been using those sticky, flimsy rug pads you get at Home Depot or Target....NEVER AGAIN.) Jo both called and emailed after our rugs were received with questions about and ideas for everything, from how to trim the remnant to what colors to use for the binding. She also let us know that the antique rug couldn't be completely cleaned because of light damage and dye overrun -- which we already figured would be the case, but it was so helpful to have a complete explanation of what WAS possible (as well as before-and-after photographs). At delivery, Tony and David (the driver and deliveryman) were extremely careful, detail-oriented, pleasant, and informative. They installed the pads and the rugs, moved furniture, and patiently made adjustments I requested. I am THRILLED with Rug Renovating and cannot recommend them highly enough! read more

I just had the best experience with this company! Yes, I live in NYC and they are in NJ, but that becomes totally irrelevant--for a small fee they both pick up and deliver. AND, although I didn't realize this, they will come get the rug off your floor, roll it, up, and schlep it out to the truck. A very professional sales rep called a couple of days later to discuss what could be done vs. what absolutely needed to be done and how much each of it would cost--followed by an email with that info so I could discuss it later with my husband. I called back saying what we'd like done, and emails with prices followed. Very professional and upfront all the way. I did purchase new pads from them (just too convenient to pass up), and I knew when I sent it in that one rug did in fact need repair, and they did a terrific job of binding up the side. Then came time for delivery--one of the rugs I sent was to come back to me, the other was to be delivered to my son. Scheduling was easy and again, they came exactly when they said they would. AND they brought the rugs in, moved the furniture, laid the rugs, and put everything back again. It was a dream come true in both apartments. Everyone was terrific, and Carlos and Gilbert were especially patient with me and hard-working and helpful moving heavy furniture back and forth.
