This company came into my home, had me pay half in advance, started to clean, told me they had to use the kitchen electrical socket because the living room couldn't take it. They blew the socket taking out all the electricity in the kitchen. When they did the technician said, "your electricity is not my problem." Then he plugged in his machine in my living room. I asked him to stop since he said the living room couldn't take it. He said he refused to leave because he would have to pay the bill if he didn't finish. I told him that according to him, I didn't have the power to run his machine and I didn't want to blow out anymore fuses (they didn't reset and we had to call in help.) he wouldn't leave then he called the police when I insisted he do. He left with the job half done. Then the company, without speaking to me or seeing my home, said they had finished the job and I was to pay in full. After he left we washed the soap off put rugs and had to call in service for the electricity. The whole thing was upsetting and frankly, awful. I booked with this company because they were super easy to book and responsive and relatively affordable and my couch needed a cleaning so I'll give them a couple stars for that. My couch had standard use stains - nothing big and no pets - so I booked the light treatment and scotch guard for $180 + tip. The couch was wet when the tech left so I let it dry and then went to look at it and it looked way better on the cushions except there was one portion that was very obviously missed and a couple other things like not picking up the handles and cleaning under them. I texted the business (that's how I had booked and communicated with them) to clarify what the service covered and I was told there was no way they could have missed this and it was simply stains that wouldn't come out due to me only booking the light treatment. So... being annoyed, I bought a Bissell "Little Green" for $110 of Amazon and cleaned it myself and sure enough, the stains came out. My recommendation would be to save yourself your money and do it yourself. Things happen and I was trying to be understanding but overall bad customer service and lack of ownership of what was probably a simple mistake are frustrating. read more

I have 9' x 12' Turkish wool area rug that is made with vegetable dye which needs special care. My rug had not been cleaned in 15+ years and it was very stained as we eat at our coffee table regularly. So we had many food and beverage spills. I did my research and came down to selecting New York Carpet Cleaning among the top four. They seemed the most knowledgeable, the best price (although that was not the deal maker), and the most attentive staff. What set them apart from the others is that they came on site to see my rug, agreed on what was to be done, and then gave me the price quote right then. When my rug was delivered and laid down I could not believe how clean it was. Not a single stain or mark to be seen. And the colors were so vivid again. I also got new padding and had the fringe trimmed. Both came out great. Rest assured you should have no problems with this company. I specifically said they needed to bring a COI and they told me they didn't need one. They weren't allowed into the building and charged me hundreds of dollars in cancellation fees. I am an idiot so I agreed to pay them again to come back. They absolutely destroyed our rug. We had a few tiny stains we wanted removed, now we have 8 giant stains that look like dehydrated pee. They refused any compensation at all and called me a "fucking sucker". This is, and I am not exaggerating, the single worst establishment I have ever dealt with in my entire life. Hired them to clean area rugs. Technician came on time and cleaned the rugs, the work was fine. But he whined a lot about how hard his day was. I had paid a $50 deposit by Zelle. then tech insisted that I pay the balance with a credit card. Got defensive when I wanted to pay the owner by Zelle, had a real chip on his shoulder. I tipped him $10 cash and he didn't even say thank you. I later learned there was an extra $10 charge, a credit card service fee. To me that's excessive. I got an invitation to give feedback from the owner and so I made this comment and requested a waiver of the service fee.The owner himself got defensive. Why ask for feedback if you're going to argue with the customer? Even though the rug was cleaned, it had a chemical smell. I would not go to this company again. read more

I sent my two rugs to be cleaned and on return the fibers had been pulled out of the large wool rug so the color blocks looked polka dotted and the white areas were yellowed. sent them back and asked for a refund of the considerable money I had invested. they then said they had "shaved" the rug and fixed the problem so not acceptable. after some unpleasant exchanges they sent me a check which bounced and finally venmoed me the money. i was charged $15 for the bounced check and am waiting for them to send it. do not use. read more

I paid $500 to have a rug cleaned and my drapes taken down, cleaned and put back up. When they came to put them back up, the two guys did not know how to do it, so they took them back with them. Two other guys came and they didn't know how to get them back up even though we had photos. I dealt with Lucy Brooke for months. She had ME call around to other businesses to see how much they wanted to put them up properly. The only one who would do it without cleaning them again, wanted $400. Lucy offered me $200. I filed a complaint with the Better business Bureau, which NY Carpet Cleaning completely ignored. After going back and forth with Lucy SO many times, now I never hear from her. They couldn't book me till January, and when they showed up they refused to do the job unless they charged me extra. So I told them to get lost, went on Yelp to search for the best area rug cleaner and found New York Carpet Cleaning Inc. They booked me for two days after I called in, gave me a two hour window, but then called me in advance to let me know when they were coming, so no guessing when they'd show up. The two guys were very professional, came in with booties on their shoes to protect my floors without even being asked, cleaned everything from moths to bike chain grease to coffee to beer and cat stains out of my beautiful wool carpet so it looks like new-- in TEN MINUTES. I found them on Angieslist.com and decided to give them a try. They were hired to come in and clean the microfiber on our part leather, part microfiber L shaped sofa. They did an excellent job and were able to take the time to clean the accompanying love seat and a runner for a reasonable fee while they were there. I am very unhappy with this company and would never use them again. They made an appointment to come, we waited and they never showed. I finally called the company and they rescheduled for another date one week later. I should have cancelled then. The estimate was $580 plus tax for an 8 by 12 carpet and one small 5 by 7. When I protested, they made a call to the owner, the new estimate was $350 (including the taxes). They did not return the carpet on time. Once more we waited and then made a phone call. When they did deliver the carpet, the same obvious spots were in the middle of the carpet. Even the delivery men were embarrassed by the job. I am sure there must be other companies in the greater NYC area who will pick up, clean and deliver. Buyer, beware of this company. Saw the mixed reviews of the company and was hesitant to use them however, I have a huge area rug that was left in an undesirable state after my old roommate and his dog moved out and NYCC is the closest to my place. So I went for convenience and boyyyyy let me tell you. I had huge dark marks all over the rug when they came in and after they left I could have took the rug back to Crate & Barrel, where I bought it, and put it back on the shelf without anyone noticing. I'm kicking myself for not taking a before/after picture. I guess you should probably get that in your head over being embarrassed of the state your rug is in. But in any case, the receptionist on the phone was nice, took my info down and answered my questions when I called. Set up an appointment and they called to confirm the day before. do not use these crooks! trust me, they don't know what they are doing and they ruined by expensive rug, ruined it. they took my rug, took two extra weeks to get it back to me and it came back in worse shape than when they picked it up. i allowed them to try to fix it again, that took another week and it was returned completely ruined. it feels like cardboard and smells digusting. it was once a beautiful silk shag. i no longer have a rug that was extremely costly. ron ami, the supervisor refuses to call me back, despite multiple phone calls. i am now on the phone with american express and will be contacting an attorney to recoup the cost of my rug they ruined. i have never been a litigious person but these guys are the worst. buyer beware big time with these frauds. maybe they could do a good job on a normal carpet pile or commercial rug. given the challenges that i have had, no one should use them. they should be out of business. read more

The technician used water creating a stain 10 times worse than the original pet stains. Not only was the technician negligent, he was combative calling me a liar and accused me of creating the problem after the fact, refusing to even acknowledge the problem. The item that we sent to get cleaned was part of an artwork trampled by literally thousands of people. There was moisture damage and filthy. The associate that came by provided several cleaning options, including mildew treatment. This was a rush job that they delivered promptly on time (including free delivery). Our apartment has a 25 year old, 650 sq. foot, wall to wall vanilla-colored Berber carpet that has to be cleaned once a year, and for a long time finding a good, reliable carpet cleaning service in Manhattan seemed impossible. I tried Macy's (forget it; they farm out the business to contractors who don't give a damn), Sears (okay for a few years, then one disaster made me decide never to use them again), Bloomingdale's (expensive and no better than Macy's), plus several of those businesses you find in ValPak envelopes. (Enter the gentleman who talked to his five-year-old on his cell phone the whole time, or the one who used so much water in his machine that the carpet was squishy and I had to call and make him come back the next day.) So New York Carpet Cleaning is a dream come true. They've gotten out ten-year-old stains I thought no one could remove, and not just partially, like some of their predecessors, but completely. They are fast, polite, competent, they stay as long as necessary to get the job done right, and they clean up after themselves, a great rarity in New York. You almost wonder what's wrong with these guys. They take pride in their work? What is with *that*? The only small drawback is that staying as long as they need to do a great job means that when I make an appointment with New York Carpet Cleaning, I know that I may have to be a bit flexible about time, which I know isn't possible for everyone, including possibly rescheduling for the next morning. But as far as I'm concerned, that's a very small drawback, because it means that I can expect to get the same careful treatment they give everyone. After calling around to a few other places, they either didn't return my call, or they emailed me a quote and seemed less than enthused when I called back to follow-up. The woman who works there, Alex, was very nice through the whole process and since we had such a bad experience with them not showing up on Friday, they actually came on Wednesday and cleaned our carpets for free! This was a very nice gesture and shows they care about their reputation and their customers. They did do a good job on the carpet, worked very quickly and then were done. I hired this company to clean two wall to wall carpets in my apartment. I especially needed them to help deodorize a smoke smell which they assured me that they could do. They also assured me and they have written on their website that they would come back to redo it if I wasn't satisfied, this is the quote on their website: "The guarantee of redoing the cleaning will serve as a guarantee in case if you are unsatisfied with our carpet cleaning results. We will happily fix any issue you are not satisfied with. Just call us and we will come back for fixing any problem you have after the cleaning" When I contacted them to redo the carpet as the odor was not gone, they refused and wrote "we do not do miracles". When I told them that it is written on their website that they will "fix any issue that you are not satisfied with" and that I would write a bad review they said "go ahead!" I would NOT recommend this company both by their workmanship and more importantly by their disregard of their written guarantee. read more

The sofa still has some stains and so does one of the rugs. How is this place still in business? I don't know what's worse - their inability to clean rugs, or the rudeness and lack of customer service demonstrated by the staff - particularly the owner/manger, Ron. I recently sent in a rug for routine cleaning. It not only came back without any of the stains removed, but whatever cleaning supply they used completely altered the color and texture of the rug to the point where it is totally ruined. I had to throw the rug out. They took a small problem and turned it into a huge one - on my dime. I paid them hundreds of dollars to ruin a $1,000+ rug. What's worse, when calling to speak to them about it, I had the misfortune of dealing with Ron - who was rude, dismissive, overly defensive, and quite frankly abrasive. Experiencing his "blame the customer strategy" was a first for me. I have never written a Yelp review before, but after having my rug ruined and then being lectured and dismissed by management, I felt more than compelled to share my experiences.
