I'm so happy I decided to stop at this YMCA. I became a member in September. I signed up at the one in Kent since it's extremely close to my work. My daughters and I do enjoy going to the Kent location however this YMCA has become number one in my list so far. I was very impressed, it's big and there's plenty of parking. The ladies at the front desk were very nice and helpful when registering. In the entrance they have a satisfactory machine which lets them know how your day was, near the daycare area there's a prayer box and a suggestion box. If I had younger children I'd be excited to leave them at a very neat daycare area, on a sunny day they let them play outside in a secured area. It looks clean and very well organized. They have lots of machines to choose from, I love that their workout machines have personal fans. Loved the weights area, it is spacious. There's plenty of everything Dumbbells, weight balls, mats, bars and space. I was very impressed and happy that I didn't have to wait to use anything. The Zumba class was great. They have lots of different classes and water aerobics to choose from. The pool area, basketball, track and racket ball room was great too. The lounge area was neat, they have comfy couches and vending machines. The gym has TVs everywhere and music playing which was very enjoyable. The changing rooms, bathrooms and locker areas were absolutely clean and dry. They have stools for the kids to be able to reach the sinks. The lockers are very roomy, made me happy. They have hairdryers available and plenty of mirror space. The customers all seem nice and respectful. Honestly I have yet to find something I'm not pleased about, I would definitely recommend this gym. read more

Those people unjustly denied me the opportunity to play as Santa Claus for the kids because of some license. Even though I'm autistic myself. Plus, I'm a caregiver for my Dad because he's crippled. Those people have no pity, no remorse, and absolutely no Christmas spirit. My advice to others is to not trust the YMCA. Because I was denied to play as Santa Claus just to make some extra money for my family. Maybe a lump of coal in their stocking can help them see the error of denying an autistic adult an opportunity for the holidays. read more

My 5 year old niece is having her last soccer skills and drills today, and the teacher is not teaching them properly. The kids can hardly understand him. And he is quite harsh to the kids. The kinda should be able to understand their coach. But they cannot. Maybe having a coach that actually knows the basic skills for soccer would be a better match. He keeps teaching them the same thing every Wednesday. The coach is teaching them bad sportsmanship. read more

Nice pool. Good that they have this toddler swim hours. But I'm NOT very satisfied WITH 1. PRICES - in my opinion it's too much to leave ~250$ for membership. Somehow it includes 1st month membership and the same FEE ??? They offered us to pay 130$ with something for a month membership and 120$ with something for a FIRST TIME FEE. Which is non refundable, by the way - and what if I change my mind ? I'm loosing 120$ ??? I'm not ready for that - too much. So we bought one time passes several times. 2. Changing rooms TEMPERATURES - I think it's too cold for babies. 3. Showers pressure was different every time - once it was too low, another time it was ok. 4. Pool TEMPERATURES - also every time different. Once it was too cold - we were swimming less than an hour. Another time it was warmer and we could swim more than the first time. Our visits were okay. Spouse and I are there two or three days a week. Lots of equipment. Everything is clean. We're in our 70's and enjoy that there are people of all ages working out in all areas. Great staff. Our AARP Medicare supplement pays our dues. We highly recommend! read more

My son who will be 8 in a month is a proficient level 4 swimmer, but because he is not 8 he is not allowed to take the swim test to play in the pool. There are 4 lifeguards on duty and 1 child in the pool 1. I am sitting on a bench next to the pool and he is not allowed in. They leave him alone longer during swim lessons while they are taking children up and down the pool then he will be left alone to swim. I asked if he could go in the kiddie pool and it was a no because I am not with him in the 1 foot deep water. Even if I am standing within arms reach at all times he is not allowed to be in there. I have often wondered why the Y is such a ghost town. Well, I got my answer today. It is because of archaic stupid rules. Oh and by the way, as of right now there are 4 lifeguards on duty and 1 child swimming in the entire swim facility. That child is my other son. He is 9 and swims much worse then my almost 8 year old. read more

I was a member for almost a year. And that was too long. I would never join the YMCA again. Joining it in the first place was such a hassle. I was told different things by different employees about what the income restrictions were, what documents were necessary, etc: I was told I had to log into a Washington state website to prove that I have zero income. I said, why do I have to prove that? I am on WIC and snap EBT. That should tell you right there that I am low income. She said no, you still have to log into the Washington State website. Another staff member said I do not have to log into that website. Nobody was on the same page. So at this point, I am now working with a third or fourth staff member. And she was harassing me. She questioned me as to how I'm surviving with zero income. She said, how am I paying my membership if I don't have any income? I said my parents are going to help me out with it, she said well then you have to include their income in your application. I said no I don't, because they are not in my household. It's just my daughter and I our household. She said it doesn't matter, you have to include them in your application. So I had to go to a manager (now it's been two weeks of me trying to join this place), and she said that is absolutely not true. And she let me join right then and there without including my parents income, or the other websites or documents. I just had to show her one document proving I was on snap EBT. Nobody ever answers the phone. So if you have any questions, you have to actually go into one of the locations. This is extremely inconvenient and ridiculous. One of the teachers was really good with my daughter. The rest were terrible. They were very impatient with her, as she has ADHD and wiggles a lot. Their staff is not capable of teaching children that don't hold perfectly still, and don't do exactly what they say. And that's unfortunate, because there are MANY children that are not cookie cutter perfect. I signed my daughter up for a preschool type class there at the Y called Little Learners. She was all excited to start preschool there...and then they cancelled it a few days before it started. They sent an email out to all of us parents who had our children signed up for this class. It stated that we would all receive a phone call regarding this issue. Of course I never got a phone call. I have called both Puyallup and the Sumner YMCA trying to get a hold of managers several times regarding different issues, of course I never once got a hold of a manager via phone call. So I left messages for them, and nobody ever called me back after leaving voicemails on their personal voicemails. I had signed up for my membership payment to be automatically taken out of my bank account every month. After my first month went by, I received an email stating that my membership was canceled due to no payment. So again, I had to go to one of their locations because, of course you can't get a hold of anybody via phone. And they said that the staff member must not have signed me up for an automatic payment. So I had to restart my entire membership process all over again. As you can imagine, I almost canceled that day. But my daughter wanted to do the classes so bad, I unfortunately kept it. Finally l, upon deciding to cancel my membership, I called to cancel on the 5th. The gal said I would have to pay for another month because I did not cancel by the 25th. I asked to speak to a manager. I was told that this is their policy. I said I understand that is your policy, but you are not getting another month membership out of me at this point considering everything that has happened over the last year. I also said, it is impossible to call you guys and cancel a membership over the phone. So if you do have a policy like that, you need to make your staff available to cancel my membership. She then told me, well, you can come into any center to cancel, and you could have left a voicemail. I said that's the wrong answer. The right answer to that when you are talking to a customer is, "I am sorry that we do not answer our phones even though that is what the phones are for. I will cancel your membership today." I could understand if nothing else has happened in the past. But considering everything that has happened over the last year, you are not getting another month out of me. So after getting an attitude, and going back-and-forth with the manager for five minutes, she reluctantly said she will cancel it. Of course, she was rude about it. I am genuinely disappointed in a company as big as the YMCA. I cannot believe the lack of customer service skills and the lack of training that occurs in their facilities. Somebody higher up needs to step in and make some changes! read more

I have been going to this Y since they first opened! I played soccer, basketball in the leagues they had. I did fit for fun, I took swim lessons, I've taken exercise classes and most of all I have been coming to get a great workout! Tons of cardio machines, lots of free weights and multiples, which is nice when there are more people here! Only a few times I have actually had to wait to get something done! My mom comes here as often as she can, as well as the Tacoma YMCA's. Unfortunately because all the kids, us, are moved away we won't have a family membership anymore. Just mom and dad. Great place for a shower while on the road traveling! The front desk staff were so helpful. I got there early and there was hardly anyone in the showers. There is a policy of only thirty minutes. Prices are ridiculous! Be expected to be nickel and dimed. I got a $10 a month upcharge for turning 30. The faculty is not clean so I'm not sure why I pay so much. $70 a month for one person is ridiculous when they close at 7 on Friday 3 on Saturdays and closed completely on Sunday for church. Classes are so few and far between so don't let them talk you into a membership with that. You will be thankful you didn't go here. read more

I miss my Y! I've never had to deal with rude people, weird men oogling, or kids upstairs. (No offense to those of you with kiddos.) I think the most annoying thing I've encountered would be the patrons who don't know gym etiquette. (ie--starting the treadmill, leaving all their stuff by it, and walking away to talk to someone for 15mins while I'm clearly waiting... OR sitting on a machine more focused on what's on their phone and updating their FB status) But, you're going to find those types of people EVERYWHERE... especially in January. smh The Y is always clean; the staff is friendly; and the best part is, it's in a a great location! The smoothie bar is pretty spot on as well! WOOOO!!! The only, only complaint.... the parking is rather horrendous at times. Oh and another bonus.... if you don't plan on bringing a giant gym bag--you can use the lockers that use pin codes and not have to worry about bringing your own lock! WIN!!! read more

This place is great, is big enough to do all kinds of activities but not so big to get lost. There is plenty of lockers, even the ones you can put a code on, there is 3 pools, a toddler one, a trainning one perfect for pre-teens and there is the adult one if you need to do competition swimming. The basketball court is great too, the staff is friendly; the nursery looks clean, restrooms are always clean too. I have no complains at all. There are boxing bags available. There is a big variety of weight lifting activities. Plenty of parking too and family activities. read more

I will never go back. They made me remove my headphones so that I can listen to other weight lifters in case they need help. They play favorites with the kids classes and it's not a first come first serve. It's employees friends and family first. perverts can walk straight The the female shower room, and their prices keep rising for paying customers but if you are low income you basically get a free member ship with you and all 18 of your screaming kids. Why is all the staff over angry and weight? The soccer coach inappropriately grabbed my kid by the head and whipped him around because he didn't say hi. Best gym to go to in Puyallup. Better than LA Fitness. - You do need a membership to get in or $5 as a guest. - You can take classes such as dance, swim, karate, gymnastics, etc. - Equipment are fun to use (upstairs and downstairs). - Boys/Girls locker/shower rooms provided (upstairs and downstairs). - Cafe bar downstairs and vending machine (downstairs). - Chapel and Zumba room (upstairs), leading to the track. - Daycare/Nursery open till 6:30pm (forgot schedule). - Summer Day Camp provides snacks and fun! - Strong Wi-Fi provided but password needed. - Gymnasium with trampoline, pit, bars, beams, etc. - Two giant basketball courts. (downstairs). - Two dance rooms (upstairs and downstairs). I go to the YMCA almost every single day to workout, hang out with friends and attend classes. The most expensive gym in Puyallup. Even WITH financial aid. You are forced to pay for ALL amenities and classes when you sign up, even if all you do is cardio machines. The daycare center has a lot of staff but I rarely see any of them interact with the kids. They all stand around and watch. My son doesn't like to go to the gym because of that, and he enjoys all other daycares he been to. The daycare staff can be on a power trip many times (I have many examples)... 1 star is an adequate review. The hours for childcare on Sunday is also limited to a 3 hour time slot... very limiting. If I move closer to another gym I will be looking forward to ending my membership at this gym. read more

I was charged 3 times this month for my membership. I have called twice and no one seems to know what is going on. I guess it happened to more people than just me and "they're working on it." It's been 5 days and it hasn't been resolved. No one can give me answers. No one I've talked to even seems concerned. My account now has an overdraft fee on it that would not be there if they hadn't been keeping my extra $175 hostage. This is completely unacceptable. UPDATE-It's been almost two weeks and I still don't have my money. They somehow managed to refund my overdraft fee, but not the two extra months of membership they charged me for. Employees are still blowing it off and telling me that someone else it working on it. Don't waste your money at this establishment folks. read more

Terrible mistake in joining this location! Beware!!! Poorly managed facility, rude staff, overcrowded, poor security, schedules a mess...POOR Customer Service starting with the upper management who will defend their staff even when they are obviously wrong and showed them proofs. Messed up my kids schedule particularly birthday parties which we paid for, and scheduled months ahead and we follow up with phone calls every week then 3 days to the day before the party and they still messed up our schedule and party room, and the messed up part was they try to lie about our follow up phone calls that we never did follow up. We showed our call history and the director did not even apologized after seeing the proofs. Absurd reaction when you see someone lying and defending their staff. Staff and upper management must be re-trained. The worst part was, the staff involved in a lot of the miscues were transferred to the Sumner location. A lot of our friends including I moved to the Sumner location hoping that there will be different staff and newer and better customer service but nope! Several newer staff are great with the exception of the transferred staff which messed up a lot of the scheduling again. Everyone deserves a second chance...Incompetent Staff and Management must be re-trained to the core value of what YMCA stands for. I don't see it in the majority of the staff starting with upper management. In this location, you don't get what you paid for! Hopefully, big and better changes occur in this location. read more

I've been coming to this gym for about six months now. Granted, I am military, so I have access to a free gym on either the Army Post or Air Force Base. This is convenient because it is close to the house and offers classes for the kids. As for the facility, I think it is actually a 5 star facility with everything they offer: equipment, indoor track, pools, sauna, child care, etc... My complaints are the classes offered and *gasp* all the people who I KNOW are paying probably $0 to come here. When you don't pay for your membership, it's easy to not take things seriously. I've seen people pretty much treat this place like it's their home, walking around like they own the place, plopping down to eat dinner at the tables, etc. (And they eat Ramen noodles or McDonalds at the gym tables, talk about irony) While I haven't been a victim of having anything stolen, I have heard from coworkers and friends that it has happened. I am a racquetball player, and their four courts are pretty nice. Except every time I go, they are full.... with either kids "playing" racquetball or kicking a soccer ball, throwing a basketball or a football... in the racquetball courts. And that is after navigating my way to that area. SO many kids doing Karate and Gymnastics, there is NO way they are effectively learning anything. My kids do swimming and gymnastics. If I had to pay for either.... it wouldn't be worth it. Since it's included in my membership they do it. They REALLY need to do something with the pool entrance area. It is ALWAYS overcrowded and the floor is dangerously wet. Kids slip ALL the time! So this month, I am finally cancelling my membership. Not worth the hassle of dealing with all the people and issues. read more

I've been coming here for at least 5-6 years now. And I'm on the verge of quitting. Don't get me wrong, I'm trying my hardest to be patient and let the "Resolutioners" phase out, but the parking is absolutely out of control and the children being upstairs is driving me CRAZY! My fiance is so frustrated by his workout in the weight room with the teenagers standing at the equipment doing NOTHING and talking on their phone, that he left after 20 minutes last night. They really need to get their weight room supervisors on top of that, ESPECIALLY during peak hours. I will be filling out a comment card tomorrow, but it probably won't go anywhere. Dues go up every year. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED. As an aside, this facility is clean and comfortable and I do appreciate the family atmosphere and the large offerings of classes. They really need to work on population issues though - parking, weight room, people management (crowds of children and their parents downstairs, kids running up and down the stairs, etc.). read more

The is a great YMCA. If you have kids and you like your health and you want your kids to share that love for health. JOIN the YMCA. There are programs for everyone of every age. It is perfectly located in the suburbia we call South Hill. Do you like to swim? Throw weights around? Run on a dry track? Play ball sports? Take classes? They have all this and more. I highly recommend a tour of this facility. You will find that the place is always packed. read more

This is an amazing gym and I've been a member for more than a year now. I participate in kickboxing, core and more, yoga (on occasion), and various zumba classes. I love it all! I am now using their activtrax program to boost my strength training regiment and so far, this is a great tool, especially for those who want to gain more muscle, but who are unsure of how to do this without someone supervising them on every machine. My son is in several programs and I hear the sports are great. Love the hours of daycare here and the variety of classes that are available for the different age groups that it serves. It can be a bit pricey, but you may qualify for some assistance if you don't earn too much money per year. I would implore you to visit and see what you could be doing. My only grievance with this facility is that the parking during peak hours is horrendous. I've had to park behind Vision quest or Michaels on occasion because there is simply nowhere else to park that is close enough. They should consider buying a bit more land nearby to accommodate the massive amount of members that come here. read more

My family and I have been going to this Y since we moved here in 2013 and we absolutely love it. I love the fact that they offer many different programs that my children are able to participate in. We have signed up for several different classes from sports, to swimming, to martial arts. My 10 year old son has been doing ChunJiDo since he was 7 and my 6 year old son just recently started it as well. They both love this program and I'm glad that this Y offers it. Since we started here, registering for classes has gotten a lot better. One complaint that I have though, is the parking. Often times during peak hours (after 5pm) it can be pretty difficult trying to find parking because everyone is trying to get in for some class or another. Then when sports season is on, it can get even worse. There are times when we would have to park behind Michaels in the next lot over. Beside parking, it can also get pretty crowded, especially during the first week of the session. My kids meet at the martial arts room twice a week and it can get pretty hectic with ChunJiDo and gymnastics (the gymnastics room is right next to the martial arts room). It can get quite difficult chasing after my almost 2 year old very active daughter through the crowd. But besides that, I love the facility. The staff are super friendly and always there to answer any questions that you might have. And apparently everyone knows my daughter cause she's always running all over the place ;) The gym area upstairs is not bad either. I love the fact that I can put in a workout while my kids are doing their activities. Another huge plus! read more

I love this YMCA. When we signed up a year ago it was hard to figure out where we fit in and what our schedules would be. Once we got into the swim classes and extra curricular sports it all started to fall into place. We have tried every sport offered and have not been disappointed. My boys love coming here! The first question out of their mouths when I pick them up from daycare is "are we going to the YMCA?" My kids have built a few bonds with staff/coaches/instructors. These relationships they probably won't ever forget. It's really opened up a lot of much needed family time that's healthy and interactive. Bonus, I get to work out while they are both in swimming. The trick is getting the same times for two different classes. The coordinators have been pretty helpful for that. read more

It's a great Y! They have plenty of indoor and outdoor activities, pool, large gym, racquet ball courts, free weights, cardio, etc. Only reason I can't give them a 5 star is because the downstair gym needs some updating, and there's very little accommodation for families to use a joint changing and shower area. There are family changing rooms, but there aren't showers in there, and when you have young children, it is nice to be able to have the whole family in an area to help out getting in and out (if you don't have kids, just trust me on this). The changing tables in the locker rooms never seem to be in good condition, so that is frustrating. The men's locker room is hit or miss for hot showers as well. Overall, the downstairs locker rooms need to be renovated. The upstairs adults-only locker rooms are great, but the family ones need help. The drinking water seems heavily chlorinated, so bring your own water. Staff is very helpful and pleasant at all times. The day care is really a great help and benefit as well. read more

This is the "only game in town" and it certainly shows, the place is bedlam most times all day. Due to overcrowding, kids get little attention in any class. I'm pretty my $150/month goes to support the many folks who are most likely paying nothing. It's mayhem around there. Kids climbing all over equipment running all over with little to NO supervision. The other day, of 14 people on elliptical trainer, 11 were on the phone, each speaking louder than the other. In weight room, mostly Lifting-Posers, spending more time on phone or staring at themselves in the mirror. Parking- forget about it. Spending 5 minutes while waiting to park behind those who are insistent on parking the closest spot! Walk folks, it's okay to park where there's a spot! Good equipment but low-end patrons. read more

Registering for classes and birthday parties is ridiculously cumbersome, as it's a short window to register and planning to book ahead for a birthday party won't help. Ninja-like computer skills are needed to register within the first 30 seconds or you're out of luck. And good luck receiving a return phone call. read more
