I have 3 PCI radios in cars. I was hesitant but bought a rugged system for a mavrick R with a remote intercom and their radio. Wow! So much easier to install. Everything is labeled, fused and terminated. But it gets better. It just works. No drama but it sounds better than my other cars. Yea, too many cars, but the rugged radio- take the chance. I'm not one to typically leave reviews on Facebook, Yelp, Google, etc, but in this case I felt it was necessary to do so. I have a full Rugged setup in my Can Am including intercom and radio. While out in Glamis over the Thanksgiving weekend, I went to the Rugged booth with a few concerns I had. 1) My screen is so dim it is barely visible. I have to use my cell phone and zoom it to be able to determine what is being displayed. When I asked the tech about it, his answer was "the screens do go bad, but there is no way to replace it or fix it". 2) I can BARELY hear any transmissions over the radio, despite the volume being maxed out, headset volume maxed out, and trying all squelch settings. When I asked the tech about it, his answer was absolutely appalling. "It could be a million different things. This radio was discontinued at least 4 years ago." Yup, thats it! ZERO attempt to provide support, ZERO attempt to stand behind their product, ZERO attempt to do anything for their customer. What did they do? Offer me $120 credit towards a trade-in on a new model. WHY would I want to spend MORE money with a company who doesn't stand behind their products? 3) I needed a specific frequency programmed into my radio. While Rugged was able to do this, they charged $25 to do so. Yes, you read that right, TWENTY FIVE dollars to program a single channel. I spent the holiday weekend with about half a dozen PCI customers, and they all had the frequency programmed for FREE. Additionally, PCI was willing to program my radio, ALSO FOR FREE, but unfortunately didn't have the cable with them at that particular time. I've done a lot of business transactions over the past four years, building two separate Can Ams, and this is by far the worst experience I've ever had. As a result, anytime anyone asks about comms on our local, regional, and national SXS pages, I will be very vocal about my poor experience. read more

I purchased 2 of the GMR2 GMRS radios. I was led to believe that the GMR2 would be capable of GMRS standards of above 2 watts. With all the marketing surrounding these radios, one could assume with GMRS in the name that the radio would be capable of that classification of above 2 watts. Unfortunately, that is not the case. There is an insane amount of verbiage toward the GMRS standard with no specification on wattage for the GMR2. I ended up purchasing the radio on the belief that the radio would be able to at least reach 5 watts like other GMRS radios on amazon. I was skeptical when I first purchased but trusted the brand through product influencers in the offroad community. My skepticism got the better of me and I messaged support to determine the exact specs which were 2 watts. I find this very misleading and my trust in rugged radios is completely gone. Maybe I should have looked at the 2 in the Model (GMR2) but I wanted it to be GMRS capable. Others who have reviewed the GMR2 on RRs website have been misled as well, with one review assuming that the radio is capable of 20 watts. Very disappointed in a brand I trusted. read more

I was looking for a short stubby hard plastic antenna to replace the cheap one they offer. $15.00 each @ 25% off $11.25 each and I need 6. That is the best Kenny could do. Well where do I begin, I promise I will NOT put the salesman name in this message, HOWEVER to be fair, win lose or draw I will stay with my original salesperson. I have tried to be understanding thru the the helmet issues of 6 people in my crew, the different orders between two people on one phone call... several $$$ equipping our vehicles so we and my neighbor could have a turn key experience between us all to go out and have fun! AND NOW R.R. has come out with a new radio that supersedes there old one, it is a digital, that when we ordered the the adapter kit, harnesses, and all the the B.S. that goes with the installation that the radio won't even fit in the bracket supplied to combine the radio with the intercom, it fits like a "square peg in a round hole" and im told use it", then when the new bracket comes we will send it free of charge" RIGHT!!! Im gonna cut up the dash in my BRAND NEW X3 to fit something that Might not fit the custom install when the the updated bracket comes to me in a few weeks! WHAT!!! Look im all about branding, In that when I commit, im all in. however we just spent over 20K on a brand new ride and now your telling me this shit... Bought 2 sets for 2 four seat razors. Paid about 6k for then with the alpha bass headsets. The PTT bottom on the steering wheel ripped off on the first ride on both of them. Contacted installer and they referred me to rugged. Rugged claimed it was an install error and that they didn't leave enough slack in it. No way. The part was a piece of junk. Two small wires holding in on a moving part. What a joke. Shoo ended up fixing it bit customer service at rugged is trash. Spend you money on PCI. read more

These are just imported re-branded radios. They pre-program them to frequencies that the users may not be licensed to use. Their tech support can't (or won't) answer technical questions about programming, probably for this reason. Look at TYT, or Boefang radios for the same things for half (or less) the money. read more
