I had a really nice Helly Hansen ski jacket that had only seen a few seasons but the zipper was failing at the bottom. Some of the regular dry cleaner repair places were not so sure about replacing it with a water tight zipper so I found this company and felt like I was in much better hands. They cut out and replaced a solid tent door with mesh for more visibility and air. Great communication and sewing! I wanted to use a local shop, but Portland's Mountain Soles response to corona was to make an angry sounding website and do seemingly everything they could to deter work. Thankfully Rugged Thread was friendly, nimble and had good safety steps, leading me to choose them even though they were out of town. They even aired out the new tent while it was waiting in queue. I have taken a few items to Rugged Wear with very good repair results. With their minimum shop cost now being $25, they have lost a customer. I like keeping items out of the land fill and getting more use without replacing, but I'm going to investigate other forms of repair. Maybe rivets? I understand some of the new glues are very reliable. I just had a $10 item repaired for $25, no more of that. read more

Wonderful Service, Great Quality, Incredibly Fast! I have an ultralight Sleeping Quilt with clip system (no zipper), but found myself wanting a zipper put on for heat-retention. I contacted Rugged Repair for an initial quote by phone (I live back East), then sent in pictures and an email of what i was looking for (a zipper installed the length of the bag). Well used them several times on much loved jackets. It took several weeks but good quality work .... at a price for sure . We would look it over together and asses carnage right ? !/2 zipper and 2 in sq patch on collar. 85 .00 cha ching . Either way the 2" rip on the sleeve got missed assessment but no call even though the down was completely missing from that cell sleeve wrist. Absolutely NOT ready for the field But I paid for it it advanced not knowing the ultra lite kuiu jacket value 215.00 was ready for pick up :)....So Apon arriving with phone call in advanced yes jacket is ready sooo I get there and noticed that the sleeve was ripped with down missing. Oh well on the order does not say repair sleeve ..... WTF.... out the door I go ..but the owner stopped me in the parking lot and explained to me that its like construction job you only get what you pay for and she was willing to fix it for a fee..WTF and was really rude. I dont get it she must not be from here. NEVER AGAIN MAN... 30 year business owner here in BEND. read more

These guys are the best! When the zipper on my favorite car camping tent bit the dust I looked for a new tent and didn't find one that was half as good. I sent the old one to Rugged Threads and they replaced the zipper mechanisms on both of the main zippers for a reasonable cost and with a short turn around. Works great and the communication was excellent. read more

I threw a bit of an odd one Kim's way. The seat for my sit on top kayak has straps with cheap plastic buckles for adjusting the recline position. The buckles broke and Kim was able to sew in new, sturdier strapping and added some metal clasps that are much more sturdy. She performed the job exactly when she said she would and for the price she quoted me. It was a very reasonable amount considering the work involved. The repair looks very professional and you would think that this is the way the seat came from the manufacturer. Except it is 10x more sturdy than before. To top it off, Kim was extremely friendly and offered up several solutions to tackle the problem. She even remembered me by name when I came back to pick up my seat. If you have any outdoor gear that could use a repair, go see Kim before throwing it out. She can likely find a solution for you and it will be much cheaper than buying new! read more

One star is all they deserve. That's because they paid to send my tent back. On 10-10-22 I sent rugged thread photos of my tent I needed repaired. They said it looks like it jest needed some TLC, and yes they can repair. 10-11-22 shipped tent to rugged thread, rugged thread received tent on 10-13-22. 10-19-22 rugged thread sent a quote. 10-31-22 I gave the ok to repair.Rugged thread stated looking at four weeks turnaround time. 12-9-22 emailed rugged thread on how repair is going, no reply.12-19-22 emailed rugged thread on how the repair is going, no reply. 12-20-22 emailed again on how repair is going, no reply. 1-9-23 emailed again on how repair is going, no reply. On 1-12-23 rugged thread emailed me and wanted a phone conversation. 1-12-23 talked to Kim the owner, she stated they are to booked up and did not want to repair my tent. One day shy from being 14 weeks they have had my tent with no repair and 4 emails with no reply. Kim also stated she did not want to get her shop dirty. Why advertise tent repair if you are afraid to get dirty, what a bunch of DAMN EARTH MUFFINS. I would not recommend Rugged Thread to have my socks repaired. It's people like this Oregon does not need! Very unhappy customer. read more

I stopped by today for a repair. Kim was super skilled and fixed the repair while I was there. It was some super tricky heavy duty stitching. She rocked the repair and was friendly. I love the vibe of the shop and her neighborhood. Highly recommended for any repairs needed for camping gear etc. I'll be back to have her repair my down jackets and broken zippers. read more

Apparently my experience was the odd one out. Owner was very friendly both on phone and in person. Price seemed a little high(and I don't remember how much, just that it seemed high) for the tiny little bit of stitching that I needed on a pair of mt bike shorts, but I was ok with it. The problem is that the stitching came out 3-4 months later, which is no big deal. When I decided to stitch it myself by hand, however, I was pretty bummed to see how poor the original repair was. Fabric was bunched up and caught in the stitching and the seam was incompletely repaired, leading to the stitching falling out. Let me stress, this is no huge thing, and the repair was small. I just feel though, that maybe because it was just a small repair, no attention was put in to the work. Just bummed to have wasted my time and money. read more

I've had a great waterproof golf jacket with a broken zipper for over a year. I took it in to our dry cleaner/ tailor in SF and they couldn't fix it. When we moved to Bend, I started looking at new jackets. Since it was only a zipper and I didn't feel right buying a whole new jacket, I made another attempt and googled zipper repair and Rugged Thread popped up. My zipper was repaired in less than 10 minutes and my jacket was as good as new. Saved me about $200 for having to buy a new jacket. I'd highly recommend. read more

My father is currently hiking the Pacific Crest Trail and unfortunately, just before the 4th of July long weekend, the zipper to his tent decided not to work anymore (I believe its a Big Agnes but that is besides the point). Although this wasn't something they have the equipment to do , the girl that I talked to was VERY HELPFUL!! She gave me the contacts to get what I needed done and also offered me some great advice on fixing a zipper in a Patagonia parka. Kim tackled a difficult project adding a mesh hip belt to a Patagonia fishing pack. This required pulling the pack apart to access its deep recesses and then stitching it back up through existing lumbar padding. The results look as if Patagonia had included it in the original pack (which they should have). Professional and painstaking effort at a more than reasonable fee. read more
