So the kiddo was in town from the Navy and she along with one of my other daughters has always been my "foodie" partner in crime.Always pushing to try new places,always pushing my boundaries-it's a good thing to have in life.Well this particular visit was coming to an end and we had one last meal together and she wanted pizza,but she knew what buttons to push with me when she was like,"I don't want pizza that I had before" -So I had to go thru my foodie rolodex and I remembered a spot that I've always cherished and held in high regard but had never taken her-I decided on Masullo on Riverside Blvd. That particular day everyone was being lazy and didn't actually want to go out so I decided to call in my order and just pick it up.I know at times in the past in their busiest times they sometimes don't take to-go orders,so I was relieved when I called them and they were able to take my order.There were 3 of us eating so decided to go with 2 pizzas-The American($22.00) which is basically mozzarella and pepperoni and the 3 Meats(($25.00) which is mozzarella ,ricotta,salami,sausage & mortadella. Parking at this location is pretty thin but luckily I was able to snag a spot at the business next door as it was a Sunday evening and they were closed. When I got there at the time they told me my food was ready,it wasn't quite ready but that was ok,they offered me water while I waited and it gave me a little time to look around,as it's been a bit since I'd been there.Masullo is an interesting restaurant,it's for sure not like a family friendly place per se,it's much more like "date-night" vibes for sure but not like a place for celebration,it's much more intimate-if I was a person still in the dating scene-I would definitely choose this place as a first date spot-it has that kind of feel for sure but it's still casual somehow. After a short wait-I got my pizza and man did they look and smell good-I got to admit I had to grab a slice once I got into the car-I couldn't helped myself-1st 5 minutes of a pizza is yummy. Once I got in and we dug in,I was reminded of why I love their pizza so much and to me why they are in contention for best pizza spot in the entire city.Their pizzas are smaller than you would expect,kind of like a super-sized personal pizza,so the slices are smaller-but the quality of the ingredients and the authentic Neapolitan wood-fired pizza style they use to make their pizzas are just perfection. I will admit-the 2 pizzas I chose were not very creative-they have an ingredient list that is so creative if one wanted to try some unique combos-but for some reason I've just stuck to the same pizzas every time I ordered. I saw on the menu that they also have pastas-salads & desserts but I have never indulged into those items.They also have a pretty extensive wine list. Elephant in the room of course is the cost-this isn't a cheap place,$25 for basically a personal pizza isn't cheap but the quality of the pizza and the charm and ambience of the place make it all seem worth it in my books-not every week but whenever the time is right-this is definitely on the list of places I have happily taken my wife on our date nights and will continue to do so. In closing If your ever want to try a really good pizza spot that's most likely different than your regular pizza spot-I would fully recommend heading down to Masullo to enjoy one of their great pizza creations-you won't regret it. Masullo definitely gives off upscale Italian restaurant vibes, and the prices reflect that. Unfortunately, for me, the food didn't quite live up to the experience. We ordered the three-meat pizza, a meatball, and the rosemary bread. The pizza was honestly pretty bland and lacked the flavor I was expecting, and the meatball was the same. The rosemary bread was the one thing I really enjoyed, although I wasn't a fan of the flavor of the oil that came with it. Our server was nice, but there were a couple of issues with our order. Two things were forgotten for the table, including my pizza. When I asked whether it had been put in, he realized it hadn't and went ahead and ordered it. He came back to let me know, but at that point, I wish he had checked with me first. My friends had already finished their meals, so I would have just told him to skip the pizza rather than have it come out after everyone else was done. I also had my teenager with me, and they didn't enjoy any of the food we ordered. I'm glad we gave Masullo a try, but between the price point, the lack of flavor, and the service mishap, it just wasn't a place that made me want to come back. If they're gonna charge fancy sit down prices they need to provide better service because the food is just average and expensive for what you get. How have I not heard of this awesome place in Land Park!? My son bought home a couple slices of leftover pizza and I was shocked that the crust was legit! It reminds me of New York pizzas! It's open concept with wood fire oven in the back where they cook the delicious pizzas! The menu is simple but sufficient. I hate complicated menus, so that works for me. I'm told the Pork and Beef Meatball appetizer is a must try. It's one large meatball per order. We shared it but I can totally eat this by myself with a slice of bread to soak up the tomato sauce. Comfort homie dish! We also order the Arugula Salads to offset the carbs. Great simple salad with fresh ingredients. Perfect amount of lemon vinaigrette. They have 5 choices of pizzas with tomato sauce and 7 choices of pizzas without tomato sauce. We went with Elisa (with sauce), which has Mozzarella, Toscano Salame, Fennel, Onion, Oregano, Pecorino Romano. The toppings are light and I love the thin crust. I need to come back to try the pizzas without the tomato sauce. They also have a couple of pasta and a nice selection of red wines. I can see myself come back for dinner with few friends and share a bottle of wine and couple of pizzas. Perfect casual weeknight dinner or weekend lunch spot! Place was understaffed with only two waiters who were clearly overworked. We had to wait even when half the tables were available. This unacceptable for higher end establishment to do. The pasta of the day was just boiled pasta noodles and boiled arugula. Supposedly there was some lemon juice sauce but there was so little sauce that pasta looked plain. I don't know who thought it was acceptable for it to be on the menu. Luckily we were able to get it comped. The salad was solid but small and we ordered the shareable portion The potato slices on the potato pizza were undercooked. Also all the chefs looked really young. What a hidden gem in Land Park! We ordered the Elisa and the Paolo pizzas, and both were so delicious. I especially loved the Paolo pizza--the salami was perfect, and they served it with their version of chili oil that had just the right amount of spice. Adding that chili oil to the pizza really elevated the flavors. We also tried the arugula salad with fennel and lemon vinaigrette, and it was amazing. I've never had a lemon vinaigrette before, and it was so refreshing--the lemon ratio was spot on, giving brightness without being overwhelming. The fennel was balanced beautifully, adding flavor without overpowering the salad, and the roasted almond slices gave it a great crunch. The ambiance here is minimalist yet very nice, with a cozy, casual vibe. Came here on a Saturday evening, and was seated right away. We started off with the Summer Burger salad which was flavorful with a briny creamy dressing. Next came the Lori pizza with red sauce base, sausage, oyster mushrooms, and chili Oil; the pizza has a heartiness to it with a pleasant mild spice. Our second pie was the Mustapha. Mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula, shaved grana padano, and drizzled with olive oil. Great combination but I do wish there was more prosciutto, to balance out the bitterness from the arugula. This place has amazing pizza. It's the only thing I've had here but it's a very good Neapolitan style pizza. We usually just get the American which is pepperoni. My nitpick would be these are small pizzas. Usually get 2-3 pizzas at a time and price adds up fast. For pizza in the Sacramento area this is definitely a top 5 spot for me. I have been eating here since the beginning and one thing that has never changed is how consistently perfect the food is every time. Great neighborhood spot, decently busy for a Friday night but we were seating pretty quickly. Everything we ordered was very fresh, great quality and super tasty. The sourdough rosemary bread came with with olive oil from a local business, and was pillowy and delicious. We ordered a 3 meat pizza and a pesto pizza, both of which were SO tasty. Chili oil, fresh pepper flakes, and grana padano cheese (actually real cheese in the shaker kept in the fridge). We finished dinner with a lemon posset dessert, served in a little mason jar. Super tasty and simple! Overall a great meal, we will definitely be back. Only downside is the open concept restaurant means it can get pretty loud inside, but not a huge deal. read more

We are always looking to try new Neapolitan, wood fire pizza and these great reviews reeled us in! The prices are reasonable but after picking up 2 pizzas last night (Margherita and Eileen) I don't think we'll be back again for their pizza. The service was great. Friendly staff and little to no wait time. Order was ready within 15 minutes. I see the reviews here are mostly 5 stars but these two pizzas were lacking in flavor, quality ingredients and left us both hungry. You get what you pay for I suppose. Wood fire goodness. Just around the corner from home, the family and I have been meaning to try this place for a while but haven't had the chance to until a couple weeks ago. We've always heard great things about this place and after our first time there -- i can definitely agree with the reviews. As newbies we decided to get a trifecta of carbs, carbs and more carbs, none that we'd later regret. For starters we had the rosemary bread and dipping oil, it was about what you'd expect, the bread was moist and flavorful. The pizza itself was great, it was the right amount of everything promised -- don't forget to douse it in chili oil. The grand finale was the oatmeal ice cream sandwich with a nice hefty portion of Vic's ice cream in each bite it was a nice way to send us off. Overall, the food was great and delivered as promised. The best pizza I have ever had in my life! We ordered the rosemary bread to start as an appetizer with the olive oil. Then had the Elisa and Margherita pizza for the main course along with the guava sour and siciliana blood orange soda. For the rosemary bread, we savored every bite and we tried to stop to save room for our stomachs for the main course but we couldn't help ourselves... Is it bad to say this beats the pizza I had in Italy? lol. I love the crust, the perfect crunch along with the layers of the sauce and toppings. Not an overwhelming amount of sauce, and the size of the crust was just right. The chewiness with the touch of crunch... just everything tasted fresh. You can tell they make it with so much love. Jeffrey our waiter was so friendly, funny, and attentive to our needs. We enjoyed his company and the candidness. He also let me know that you can host a party in their private room I'm not sure to the maximum capacity but it looked to be between 30-50 folks? So that's something that we will consider later on. Most definitely the best pizza in town. Especially if you like brick oven style, the crust is fabulous, really light, bit of chew, and flavorful. Toppings excellent, the meat was clearly high quality, sauce yum. We also had an apple seasonal and 2 of us loved it, one meh and one absolutely no too sweet. Decent beer and other drink selection. Dessert we shared a lemon mousse thing and it was good but too expensive for a tiny jar with no toppings/fruit anything. Service was great! My girlfriends and I went right when they opened and got to pick where we sat. Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful for our first time there and let us know they do half/half pizzas and which were the most popular. The pizza was delicious and I highly recommend getting the Abby. The Fuji apple was very unique. He knew a lot about the wine selection and even let my friend sample before choosing which to order. It was so good and thin it wasn't too filling to the point that I was stuffed but I believe could easily eat an entire pizza alone and still have room for dessert. So thin and crispy; the crust.... I've been here a few times and have been very impressed with the quality of the food. It is super fresh and they offer seasonal items that are delicious. The quality of their pizza is consistent and you don't feel heavy after eating an entire pizza! We also love the Calabrian olive oil, it emulated a similar oil I had in Italy. We stopped by on a Sunday evening - which was great from a parking perspective. There are only a handful of parking spaces in front of the restaurant so we ended up parking at the front of the closed business next door. Our waitress was attentive and engaging. Everything we tried was outstanding. From the three appetizers to the pizza and the dessert. We loved the tender meatball, mixed green salad, and spinach & burrata appetizers. Fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The Margherita pizza was amazing: great sauce, fresh mozzarella, and the dough had such a fantastic texture. We would've loved a few more basil and a heavier hand with the salt though. For dessert, we shared a silky smooth lemon possete and decaf coffee. I think I'd go insane if Masullo went out of business. Slowly, the pizza offerings in Sacramento are less and less. The style of average pizza has changed drastically: seems the style is either bready/soggy, using poor quality ingredients (all nitrate-filled meat, bad cheese) or caters to those who like curry on their pizza (five of those within 3 miles!) Masullo uses quality ingredients, and their pizza crust is thin and flavorful thanks to the wood-fired pizza oven. Their pasta and salad offerings are always unique and also feature the freshest ingredients. Their desserts are simple yet first-rate. The servers are knowledgeable about the food and are also fans of the food. They are friendly, down to earth people who love food. I appreciate that they use local sources for their ingredients. Their pizza sauce truly tastes of fresh tomato with simple herbs and olive oil, or the white sauce is also creamy yet not heavy. The individual size pizzas are plenty for two adults. My favorite Pizza is the Elise, which has uncured Toscano salami, red sauce, Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, fresh mozzarella, olive oil, fresh fennel greens. It is satisfying food, free from unnecessary chemicals and additives. The restaurant has a casual yet classy style, clean and spacious. The prices are reasonable for quality food and service. They can be busy, but it's possible to order ahead of time. Friday and Saturday evenings are the busiest and may require a 15-20 minute wait. I'm not sure why other businesses cannot offer quality pizza. I know others exist but are primarily downtown/midtown, a bit too far away for many parts of this city.
