After seeing photos of Inside Passage, I knew I had to go. We lined up at Rumba 10-15 minutes before they opened at 4pm to get on the list for Inside Passage, which opens at 5pm. While waiting for Inside Passage to open, enjoyed a meal and a drink. I ordered the Rumba Burger. Normally I am not one for BBQ sauce. It is just not my favorite. But I decided to try this burger anyways. I am so thankful I took that leap of faith. This burger was delicious. The BBQ sauce was good. The caramelized onions were just perfect. My favorite! The fries that come with the burger are AMAZING! They are heavily seasoned thin, not too crunchy fries, the kind that don't necessarily need ketchup because they are just perfect on their own. I ordered a second order because I loved them so much. The cocktail I ordered at Rumba was the Daiquiri de Plata. It was so. good. It was just the right combination and balance of sweet and alcohol--not too strong, not too sweet. It was the tastiest drink I have had in a long time. Accessibility: Rumba is generally accessible. It has ramps, an accessible washroom, and low tables. It lacks outside seating except for a few bar stools. The seating inside is a mix of half booths and vineyard chairs. The restaurant is open 100%. Avoid if you're not comfortable as tables are close. It progressively gets busier and louder as time goes on, so go early, especially to get on the Inside Passage list. Dinner and cocktails before a Paramount show. Very convenient to that venue. Funky decor in a decent sized place on Pike just east of the I-5. Massive rum selection like none Ive seen before. Did a flight of Barboncourt Hatian rum which is a rarity around here in any vintage. Decent prices for the rum neat. Cocktails were unique but very heavy on crushed ice to the point there was little actual cocktail. Be warned. Food was very good. I had the fried chicken sliders and the wife had the citrus salad. Our companions had the Cubano which definitely looks like the menu item to get! Wait staff were friendly if a but aloof at the beginning. Food comes out as it is ready so longer preparation items like the Cubano were behind but well worth the wait. Will go back again next time ordering neat cocktails. read more

The fried chicken sliders were great and a great list of fun cocktails to try. However, every drink had so much ice you seemingly only end up with a couple sips of drink. From cachaça to rhum agricole to blackstrap this rum bar has it all! Tiki drinks galore that'll bring you right to the sandy beach of the Southern Hemisphere. The place itself is a little tight on space the hexagonal tables leave for squished knees and fat butts. But the bar is beautiful with tall ceilings and equally tall ladders. The menu is reminiscent of my favorite tiki bar in Chicago three dots and a dash and I'm sure there is some relation because they have a drink named just that. But their drinks are great! Large portioned, and filled with rum and fruit juices like you expect. I started with the painkiller, it started off a little boozy but then worked itself into a sweet coconut drink. We started off with drinks - we all got the Lychee Thieves and thought it was delicious, reminded us of our recent trip to Hawaii! The restaurant itself is very cute and surprisingly spacious for being a cocktail bar. The decor is cozy and stylish, definitely a cute date spot for food and rum lovers. We got a bunch of plates to share, so here's the SparkNotes on them all: Shrimp Corn Dogs - very tender and slightly sweet shrimp, good even breading, and the salad it comes with has a great dressing to pair with the shrimp. Maduros - slightly caramelized fried plantains served with mild crema and cheese that compliment the earthy sweetness of the plantains. Kale and Mushroom Empanada - phenomenal pasty dough with a well cooked filling, I think it could stand a little more seasoning, though pairing the slaw with the empanada amps it up. Chopped Salad con Betabeles - best salad I've had in a while, it's got a ton of flavors and textures going on but then work together perfectly. What a sweet spot for small groups to gather!!! There were 5 of us. We arrived at 3 different times & this was fine (didn't all have to arrive before we could be seated). Our waitress was very attentive, yet not over the top - it was perfect!! We had cocktails & appetizers, all Caribbean inspired. Cocktails were creative & received NO complaints (most of us had 2-3... they were YUM! And beautiful!!). Appetizers were delicious!! We ordered plantains & ceviche and another with guacamole that was the best I've had in a really long time. I look forward to going back with my #1!!! This is my favorite Seattle bar for so many reasons. The rums..too numerous to mention. The staff...friendly, knowledgeable, and personable (love them!) The crafted cocktails utilizing said numerous rums...oh, my. The food? This is where I go for my guac and plantains and empanada fix. Oh and fried chicken sliders. I miss the wings. In the before times, this was our home bar, where we'd stop by, thinking it was just for a quick bite or drink, and end up staying and chatting with the crew and others. Stumbled upon this spot while trying to find a hidden gem visiting from PDX. Turns out they are sort of the gate keepers. We were seated almost immediately upon entry. The hostess was nice and once we asked about "Inside Passage", we were told that it would be about 45 minutes to an hour wait. We obliged and got a drink here at Rumba, while we waited. I got the Rumba old fashioned, which was solid and the lady got the daiquiri de plata. I didn't try it but she said it was ok. The vibe here is mellow and cozy. Even if you aren't a rum fan, I'd encourage you to try a daiquiri - these guys could change your mind (and if not, they have great non-rum cocktails as well). We got the Jamaican patty which was OK, but lacking in flavor of the crust is not the original Jamaican patty crust. More of an empanada dough The chorizo empanada had hardly any filling in it at all. They do not even have all of the filling components that was on their menu. There was no cheese inside of it. I never saw one potato. It was basically all dough. We got the goat curry. I salted it 3 times and it still had no flavoring. It's missing all the authentic Jamaican seasoning.
