Yes, you can go to one of those other $10/month gyms, but you WON'T be getting the excellence in coaching or the stimulating workouts that produce measurable improvements in strength and endurance so quickly as Port CrossFit does. Those cheaper gyms WILL give you plenty of opportunity to watch folks scrolling on their phones as they sit on isolation machines between sets, making you wait for your turn and your workout takes that much longer. At PortCrossFit, everyone in class does the same workout, with slight differences scaled for people with different fitness levels/abilities, and so everyone gets strength training and cardio in one shot, within an hour. Efficient! People cheer each other on and the coaches offer helpful tips to improve technique, and workouts are never repeated. You'll also be obligated to pay for three months Before being able to quit and when you do cancel your membership you'll still be charged another two months after that that's their policy so no matter what you do the minute you walk in that door you just committed to five months without even knowing if you like it. Anyway she had set me up to come back for a free class. The very next day I took a class with Coach Sarah. Oh boy was that class intense. I walked out there like WTH was that. Somehow I signed up with Makayla. Now I'm thinking Jatara why would you sign up you know you don't work out often. I went home and told me husband that I signed up for Orangetheory and he laughed. Six months later as I write this Review Orange Theory has truly changed my life. I love the fact the you can attend any Orangetheory in the world still brings music to my ears especially us Yelpers who are always traveling. I love the whole concept about splat points and staying in the Orange (hint that's why it's called Orange Theory) So basically you need to get 12 or more splat points by staying in the Orange zone, if you reached 12 or more points by the end of your 60 minute workout you will burn 20% of the calories you burn throughout the day. So that's Orangetheory in a nutshell. You are never in competition with anyone but yourself. At this particular location the staff and the coaches are awesome. I usually attend the 5:00 am class, the head Coach Melissa usually teaches that class or Danny. Melissa is awesome no matter where she is she can see what's going on and assist you if you are not doing it right which most of the time I'm not (that's why I'm there, much needed guidance). I know people complaint about the prices but I think it's worth every penny, you get the workout that you need and the attention of a coach to teach you how to do it correctly. Your basically paying for a personal training all in one. I love how this location is so personal it makes you feel like you are part of a family. I'm still quite and really don't speak much because I'm just not in a speaking mood at 5am. Well actually all the location make you feel like part of a family. I'm always at some other location, but this is my home gym and because of them I'm addicted to Orangetheory Fitness. At this location I took classes with Head Coach Melissa, Danny, Sarah and Emily. There are other location I have been to and I literally avoid going at certain times because of some coaches playlist yes playlist, you need good music to workout and these coaches here always have a good playlist, but for Stony Brook it doesn't matter who I sign up with or what time I go. I'm getting quality coaching from all and a great playlist. I like the fact that they keep is fun and challenging at the same time. They use IG that's Instagram ( which is new to me ) to keep us updated on all the events and other stuff happening for that month. They also have a app so you can book your classes in advance and see your progress as well. So bottom line, do I recommend OTF? Absolutely!!!!!!

From day one, Rob (Bobby), the owner, found ways to accommodate my circumstances by scaling or finding different means of accomplishing the goals that I set for myself. Full disclosure: I had been to other Crossfit gyms before settling on this one. The reason why I stuck with CrossFit 631 Redwood's, in comparison to others, is Bobby's knowledge and ability to accommodate, and the people who go. He mentioned a three day free pass they offer to try out the gym and it worked out great. Now, that's customer service. Over the three days I found the gym to be clean, well maintained, tons of equipment and weights to use, and a varied crowd size depending on the time I was there. Never seemed overcrowded to me and the members were considerate. This is the type of gym you join to really train and not just goof around. Plus, they offer merchandise and training accessories, protein and energy drinks, etc. Plenty of classes to join for cardio needs. Decent hours daily and on weekends. It may have been larger, but they had so many machines that were in disrepair that you can't even count those. - Convenient hours. What's more convenient than 24/7, even on holidays? - Quality of equipment. On one hand, its very satisfying working out with a simple barbell or dumbbell, and this gym has plenty of those. I believe they have three different sets of dumbbells and more barbells than I've seen in larger, commercial gyms. On the other hand, this place also has unique equipment that I've not seen elsewhere if you're looking for a bigger variety of a workout. The only downside is the cost -- its definitely more expensive than commercial gyms, but I honestly believe you get what you paid for here. The convenience of hours, the quality of equipment, and the helpfulness and friendliness of the people make it well worth it.
