As far as the event, I was actually pretty impressed with the abundance of vendors: Medii Kitchen, Zpizza, Snail's Pace, Sports Clips, Mother's Market & Kitchen, The Butchery, The Vitamin Shoppe, and Chick-fil-A, to name very few. Why, even S.W.A.T. was there in support! And the goodie bag, completely full: CeraVe, Eucerin, and Dove samples; and coupons for Hopscotch, Matador Cantina, The Vitamin Shoppe, Wow! Nutrition, TLC Mobile Spray Tanning, Medii Kitchen, The Butchery, Snail's Pace, Muscle Milk, etc. (The list lengthens.) It seemed as though the locals really pull for this event, really stand by it. Pride, you know? And that's the beauty: everyone coming together in support of a cause. Again, why I run. There are two 5K runs, by the way: the "Competitive" and the "Open." If your mile is 9-minutes or less, you are welcomed to run the Competitive. Everyone else--including strollers, walkers, and kids--race the Open an hour later. In between runs, you're not only afforded extra time to enjoy the event's freebies (Mother's Market's kale salad and The Butchery's BBQ chicken were delicious!) but there was also a dove release ceremony--very beautiful and touching--families and friends releasing doves in the name of hope. The run was refreshing as well: beginning at Laguna Road Elementary School, hopping onto the Juanita Cooke Greenbelt & Trail, and then looping around Laguna Lake before heading back. I had never before explored this area of Fullerton, so the run became somewhat adventurous. After now having been, I'm certainly returning. So, then, why the 3-star? Again, I run for charity. And if only a T-shirt comes with registration, that's fine. If there are no medals, fine. My problem, however, is that this event promised "medals" for all finishers. Again, that's great. But you cannot promise medals, and then distribute tags (see photo): http://raceshed.com/coupons/icuremelanoma-5k/. The medals, if they're offered, make such a difference: that's why they're called "bling," right? Runners are so proud of them. But upon the heals of such a great event, one for such a worthy cause, the tags--the ones touted as "medals"--were disheartening. I would rather the event had possibly called them "awards" instead, or maybe not even had them at all. I would have been happier to not have expected anything. This fundraising event holds a special place in the hearts of my family. We lost my cousin, Erik Halonen, to melanoma in 2014, the first year we participated in the run. That same year our cousin Staci took 1st place for women in the competitive run. They have an early competitive run, and then a walk/run that starts an hour after that. No matter which time you're run begins, be sure to get there early because parking is limited (pssst - carpool if you can!) Lots of vendors are passing out samples and coupons and sunscreen. Dermatologists will also schedule free cancer screenings for registered participants the day before the event. Everything about this is geared toward a healthier today AND healthier tomorrow. The run was well-organized and finishers receive a medal as they cross the finish line. It was a lot of fun and we look forward to participating for many years to come. What an amazing experience!!!…read more Got there bright an early to cheer on the extraordinary athletes in the mornings triathlon event!!! I found my yelp people and we soon headed towards the water where the first event was getting ready to start. The first group to dive in the water was the young men's group followed by the young female group. It was very heartwarming seeing the smiles on the athletes faces as the crowd cheered for them when they passed us by. Next, was the walk to get their bikes and they were soon off for their 11 mile bike ride! yikes!! They looked so determined and focused that it was inspirational!!! The final event was to run to the finish line. I was lucky enough to see the first US men and women to finish the event. USA men was first and USA women came in second place. I was very impressed with Costa Rica cause a lot of their men and women where one of the first ones to finish the race!! I was really happy to be apart of the Special Olympics 2015 even if I was just a crazy enthusiastic fan!! I did get tieried eyed a couple of times because I know they worked so hard to get here and they deserved to be cheered to the fullest!!!

Well organized, small event, only about 100 or so triathletes…read more Fun course, 0.5 mile swim in Alamitos Beach, 11 mile bike ride near Queen Mary (2 loops), 3 mile run along the beach (1 loop). Parking $10, lot opens at 4:30 am. 5:30 am when Registration opens 7:00 am start time of waves. Only 2 waves, 1 for men (less than 49) and the other for females (and men over 50+). Timing chip was huge. Kim Kilgroe was there racing that day! Awards ceremony at the end, all proceeds benefit Special Olympics.

Milage is from 2miles to up to 10 miles, and even more as the trails connect another major trail system. Parking is easy, at the base, there's a pay machine..3$ i think. Grear price, as the money is used for clean up and maintenance. No pets on trails. Luckily, a ranger caught two families and were cited! Yes! And two others cited for non pay of Parking. The high point trails are steep and difficult, for walkers joggers runners family or couples and for the renegade singles, plus be carefulwith bikers... they must slow down for you ! Not the other way! So be outspoken! Plus horses are occasional seen. . Get there early, as Parking gets full. The views are splendid and serene. Bring water, it can be frustrating as not water on the trails. But there is a water full station and bathrooms before entering. Clean trails, fun trail, and a trail that can be demanding if you wish it to be . It crosses over to other side of the foothills, and can be wildly exciting. From the north fate, you cannot park here. You enter, but no parking here

We were lucky this year to see the guy who won surf in a heat. It was amazing. 5. After an hour or so, go by the shopping tent. So much great merch, you will be amazed. 6. Head up to Tacos Los Cholos and have the most amazing ribeye tacos ever!!! Best tacos in Orange County. 7. Head home before the crowds.

The iconic biggest event of the year is the US Open of Surfing which concluded yesterday w the winner who is from Encinitas, California. Jake Marshall has surfed since he was 7 and after becoming champion we can expect him to be in the Olympic Games someday. I have been going to the us open forever n I have been disappointed LEXUS as a sponsor has not generated as much excitement as past sponsors, the best one was with HURLEY of course bc they are in the surfboard business, surf wear and surf culture. They gave out a lot of freebies like caps, water n pens, Lexus almost had nothing. These days the only food you see are unsightly huge food trucks. We ate at Lorea inside the Pasea hotel, it was expensive n the food was mediocre. I always think it's hilarious seeing HB cops riding horses, they looked so cool, the cops on motorcycles had AK47 strapped on the bike! The crowd has been tame n really behaving, years ago it was rowdy w public drinking n brawling from mostly kids fr the inland empire. That said this yearly event is 5 stars bc if you love watching surfing , this is it! We are the one and only SURF CITY USA.

You can bring your own snacks if you like. We did. +6/-6) The crew does accept tips. For our experience I would absolutely have tipped. But because of -2) below I did not because that had my unused $40 ticket fee already that was not refundable. I felt that was my tip instead. See below. NEGATIVES -1) The access to the boat IS NOT handicap accessible. I did not see this warning on their webpage when we ordered a ticket for our 75 year old mother. If I missed the warning I apologize. -2) Tickets are non refundable once you order. This was noted on their website. We ended up loosing (1) $40 ticket cost because our mother was not able to go. It would have been nice to have been offered a voucher to come back at a later date considering, A) you had our money already, B) 1 return voucher would have obviously turned into other purchased tickets and not just the one person and they would have gained more fees. -3) Because tickets are non refundable I do not recommend buying them in advance. Although you save $5 by buying early you may end up loosing out if your whole party doesn't end up going like we did. Just get there at least 30-45 minutes early and get in line. You'll be fine.

The effort it takes to bring 60 women to the far edge of Belize to snorkel the reef and go where many women may never go is extreme and takes a bunch of effort. Our Captain was from Alaska. I myself being from California took 4 planes to get home. Holly is the best at organizing these trips and always says that she cannot solve a problem unless she knows about it. She was at the fuel dock asking"How was your trip?" This was after our trip, upon checking the boats back in. I personally gave her a hug at our raft up happy hour. If you found her unapproachable, it's because you did not approach her. The negative reviews should be for the Charter Company, not Mahalo Sailing Adventures. Holly does not run that company and cannot control how they run it. In fact, Belize did not have a charter company for many years, nor a landing strip to get to the area we went. We were at the he furthest point of Belize you can get to. I have never been able to achieve this trip in 20 Years, previously traveling Belize. The opportunity to be at a Women Who Sail Rendezvous in Belize is a once in a lifetime experience for many women. I am grateful for the experience. The fact that a few women are looking to bash Holly and her company to escape payment is unimaginable.
