    Mother' Beach

Perfect beach for little kids, i found out from some local person who suggested me to visit this beach since I asked her is there a beach with no waves. It's a small local beach, very limited swimming area and limited parking. There was a trash on the beach, which I d didn't like. Sand is not the best one, sand on Newport and Huntington beach is much better for kids to play. The color of the ocean is weird here I guess it is because it is in Marina. I had big expectations from this beach. Stayed here for couple hours and go

I am adding this to my "fun things to do" when I have time off. My kids are water babies! After doing some research for safe, beachy places I found Mother's Beach in Long Beach (there are others along the coast but this one was closest to home). We were not disappointed. The beach was clean, water was clear, it was easy to navigate. I felt very comfortable letting my kiddos swim freely as there were multiple lifeguards on duty. Parking was close by, rinse off areas were accessible. At the end of the day, however, it IS a public space - so the restrooms were tidy but very, very bare bones...no lighting, cleaning may happen in the morning and evening - not much in between. For my kiddos to prefer NOT to change into street clothes is saying a lot - they're pretty flexible. This is the only reason for 4 stars. We had a great time, the weather was overcast (a good thing) for most of the day. There were vendors selling floaties and ice cream.....and some take Venmo - a bonus.

My daughter loves this place. This lake is better than the beach.

I love this place. It's not crowded. It's a lake so there's no waves so that's good. My daughter loves coming here. I highly recommend. There's also free parking outside and paid parking inside. I recommend coming early to get the street parking where it's free.

Mother's Beach (technically Marine Park) is the best beach for little kids because it's a shallow, waveless, shark-free part of Alamitos Bay with lifeguards. There's shady lawn for picnics, a volleyball court, and a seasonal cafe. The cozy, pristine, mellow, bro-free, urban beach is across from a boat launch marina, practically under the 800' Davies Bridge towering 32 feet above the water. ("No jumping" signs refer to the university student who died, doing so in 2002) Incidentally, the 4-acre Marine Park area was used for the Dexter series, including where Dexter abducts the guy who ordered a hit on his mom (S7:E12) and where Rita's son Cody "runs away" to play on the swings (S1:E11). If it's good enough for a serial killer, you should like it.

I like the calm water, the proximity it is close to the parking lot, and the playground. However, it is filthy. There are empty cans and wrappers on the sand.

I love coming here because the water doesn't have big waves. It's always calm and relaxing. I like to sit on the side of the rocks and put my feet in the water and just listen to the water splashing on the side of the rocks. I feel the cool water surround my feet and legs. If you ever feel anxious or depressed, this is a good way to be one with nature, to decompress from the daily stresses of life, to take deep breaths in and exhale all your worries away. Enjoy!

Great if you have small kids, they can go into water and play not like the beach where you are afraid a wave will take them

Ask the Community - Mother's Beach

    Where is Parking?

There is a parking lot right there in front of the beach/park, but it was full when we went. We had to find parking in the surrounding neighborhood. That was just a few minutes walk.

    Can we grill?

Nope Grilling is technically not allowed on the beach or in the park.

Can you bring your inflatable boat there?

Yes but it has to stay inside the swim area unless all passengers have coastguard approved lifejackets.

Can you set up for a birthday party on the grassy area? Or do you need a reservation/permit?

Can we bar b q at this beach?

How early should i get there to find parking?

7am unless you don't mind circling the lot a few to several times or parking on the street and walking in.

    Dogs on leash allowed?

Dogs are not allowed on the beach/sand but are allowed in the park on the grass on leash.

Is the playground open for the kids?

How is parking on the weekends?

Can I launch my kayak from here?

Yes but make sure to launch on the outside of the designated swim area and bring a life jacket.

How much are rentals for kayaking ? Any other rentals available?

There are no kayak rentals at mothers beach. But there are rentals at bayshore. Look up "Kayaks on the water" or check out Kayakrentals.net I believe its somewhere between $10-15/hour

    Is this location BBQ friendly?

    Yes

    Can I rent Kayaks there?

    Yes

    Is this beach opened?

    Yes.

Is the parking lot full at this time?

Yes it is unfortunately. The parking lot isn’t that big. It’s always better to get there early

I was impressed with the gorgeous scenery of the harbor, especially viewing the famous Queen Mary ship from a distance. The walk was quite tranquil and peaceful on the pathway all the way to the top, where I was met with the Lions Lighthouse (known to be ~65 ft tall). Lastly, watching the sunset was a nice touch to this whole experience. The best part was that it was not too crowded with individuals during this time. All in all, Shoreline Park is a great stop to enjoy views of the downtown Long Beach area and take a relaxing stroll to unwind. I truly recommend stopping by to visit.

Still nice but with a major upgrade. It's part of the aquarium of the pacific just along the harbor. There's a parking lot that's part of it but the payment situations was a bit of a mess. Paying with credit card on the machine was a hit or miss. Which i also found out from someone else there. It's probably easy just to do it from your phone. It's a decent size parking lot but there's also parking at the structure just next to the aquarium. It's a cute rolling hill park that looks out to both the queen mary, shoreline village and the harbor. Depending on what side you are. It's a cute little walk around with the lighthouse on top. There's benches scattered throughout the park for seating. There's even a little beach like path along the harbor. Regardless which side you are, the view is quite beautiful. There's also fishing that you could do on the pier. You'll see people about and about walking, picnicking, walking with their dogs or a stroll. Long Beach has its hidden gems and this place was one of them.

It surprised me how naturally the park gave off that youthful atmosphere without trying too hard. The open spaces and colorful areas almost felt like spots made for taking pictures, and they did not cost anything to enjoy, which makes them perfect for teenagers who like hanging out and being creative. It was my first time at Whaley Park, and I did not realize how much there was to enjoy until I walked around. I appreciated how easy it was to relax there without feeling rushed or crowded, even with all the teens playing games, taking photos, and talking with each other. Some parts of the park looked a little older or worn down, which is part of why I am giving it four stars instead of five, but nothing took away from the overall experience. I never doubted that the visit would turn out the way I hoped it would. I have only visited Whaley Park once before writing this review, but it ended up being one of the more enjoyable and energetic parks I have been to in a long time. I would highly recommend that teenagers go there because they would love the open spaces, the sports areas, the photo spots, and the creative vibe. It gives them a place to have fun, take pictures, and feel inspired in a simple and playful environment.
