I wanted to write a quick note regarding my experience last week at the Runners Roost on Colorado Blvd. I came into the store to (obviously) find a new pair of running shoes as I have just picked up the hobby of running (just ran my first 10K - The Colorado Marathon). I specifically went to Runners Roost because I had a coupon and I was recommended by my coworkers to go in and have my gate/running form checked to ensure that I purchased a pair of shoes that would work best for me. I typically don't like going to specialty stores because many years of experience have demonstrated to me that apparently I don't fit the image of someone who should be shopping in a specialty store -- I typically am ignored. As soon as I walked into your shop, my anxiety level hit the roof as I anticipated this treatment while I wondered around. To my surprise and pleasure, I was completely mistaken. I had been in the store no more than 2-3 minutes (if that) when a sales associate named ?Kyle? (my apologies if I'm remembering his name incorrectly) approached me and asked if I needed some assistance. From that point forward, he treated me and my partner with dignity and respect unlike any other experience I can recall from recent memory. He was completely able to answer all of our questions, he was patient, and even considerate of our personal finances, meaning he didn't try to sell us some astronomically priced shoes. He helped us to understand our foot placement while running and why he recommended a certain category of shoes. Further, as he saw us looking for socks, again, he was sensitive of price versus comfort and function. Because of him and this overall experience, I honestly can't wait to come and shop again, but further, I will be certain to recommend Runners Roost to anyone who should ask for such a recommendation. This was my second visit to this shop. Needed to replace a pair so hoped my positive experience from last time repeated. This time it was Martin who assisted me. Clearly this store knows how to hire and train. Martin was great. Listened to what I said and provided options to consider. Easily spent 30 minutes on me. Hands down, BEST running store in Denver! Nancy is the best :) She is the Denver running expert. I exclusively get my gear from the Roost, from head to toe. They have an awesome sock collection, all season gear, water bottles, hats, gloves...you name it. They also have an awesome collection of running watches (and this is coming from a watch store owner). We send all of our running customers to see them! I love browsing through their run calendar section to find cool local races to try. They also have a super fun run club and awesome guest speakers! We walked in today 3 minutes before closing, brand new to running and Sarah was so welcoming and willing to fit us and educate us well after the place should have been closed. She provided us with a variety of options with varying prices and allowed us to really determine what was best for us. We recently visited this Runners Roost in hopes of getting a full and complete analysis of my running 'style' / habits and what shoes would be best for me, and let me tell you we got all that and so much more! Anna Grace helped us and she was one of the best retail staff I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She was so helpful with everything from analysis, to shoe styles, explaining what meant what and what fit each different foot 'type' best, and answered all my questions; serious or slightly odd. She was also very friend and just genuinely kind, and had a good sense of humor to boot. Not sure if I've just had bad luck with the employees I've worked with so far or what but I'll not be returning. I went in and told the salesman what I wanted in shoes. He did not size me. He came back with three different pairs of shoes and did not tell me what was so special about these pairs of $160 shoes in front of me. The only time he spoke to me was when I asked him questions and even then, the responses were quick. It felt like he just wanted me out even though the place wasn't busy (it was 2 on a Thursday). I bought a pair of shoes and after actually wearing them, I realized they were uncomfortable. I went in to return them and again was confronted with a rude woman. She was degrading when I told her I wanted to return the shoes rather than exchange them. A guy came up next to me asking for a gift card. Simple task. She instead looked at him dumb founded and said, "huh?" read more

I needed some great running shoes as I am training for my first half marathon. For years, I'd purchased shoes at the big sporting stores, based purely how they felt on my foot. I got a recommendation to this store from a friend, but was hesitant on going there based on the reviews here. I've visiting this store two times in the last week and received absolutely excellent service on both occasions. Both times, I was immediately greeted, asked what I was shopping for, and was given excellent service. The first time I was in, I was helped by Eric who put me on the treadmill and took a video of my gait. He brought out a few of pairs of shoes and helped me choose which ones to buy, and even had me hop back on the treadmill to see how my gait had changed with each set. He then informed me of their 30-day, no-questions-asked return policy, and explained that you never know about a set of shoes until you've run in them. After three runs, I realized the shoes were just not working for me. I was very embarrassed to go back - I hate returning things because no matter what the policy is, you always seem to get the stink-eye from the employee, especially with an expensive item. Not so here! This time, I was helped by Amy who immediately saw me come in with my box of shoes and asked me very detailed questions about what I did/didn't like in the ones I was returning. She popped me back on the treadmill, brought out a few pairs of shoes again, and helped me pick the right ones. After two runs, I am in love with them. Very worth the $120 price tag. I know there was a review in here about not being able to return shoes because they'd been worn outside, but that is just not the case. I had worn my shoes outside, in the rain, on a dirt track, and they exchanged them, no questions asked. I think a lot of the negative reviews stem from two things: a) people who think good shoes mean you don't have to train or b) people who walk into a store and aren't greeted so they wander around a bit and then leave. There is no shoe that is magically going to make you able to run five, ten, fifteen miles without any training - if you're new to running, you have to build up to that sort of stamina. And if you walk into the store and don't get greeted or employees are with other customers, then wait your turn and ask for what you want - if you want to have the gait analysis on the treadmill, or you need help picking out a shoe, ask for it! They aren't going to say no. Everyone in the store seemed very friendly to me. I will definitely be going back when it is time to replace my shoes. The slightly higher cost is well worth it knowing you are getting the right fit for your body and running style. read more

It pains me to have to give Runners Roost a two star rating - particularly considering that before I went there yesterday my experiences were always at minimum three stars plus... But - then there was yesterday... I am in the process of training for a half marathon and needed new shoes. The folks at Runners Roost are (usually) super helpful. Runners themselves, they'll have you take off your shoes and walk around or on a treadmill so they can fully evaluate just which shoe is right for you. Then they (usually) will walk you through your shoe options and help you evaluate the difference between an $80 shoe and one that costs upwards of $100. They're never pushy, just (usually) very educational. They have a good return policy - allowing you to try the shoes out indoors (say on a treadmill or indoor track) before you can no longer return the shoes. I say this process "usually" happens as I have purchased at least four pairs of running shoes from Runners Roost. When I went yesterday someone met me outside where they were having a sidewalk sale and immediately helped evaluate my feet (plus.) Then he gave me a pair of sale shoes to try (plus.) He also pointed me toward some non-sale shoes to consider (plus), but with no explanation about the differences between them (negative.) Then, I never saw him again (what?!?) I waited at least 10 minutes, evaluating the non-sale shoes and trying to figure out which ones to try on to compare to the ones on sale. I literally had to go in the back room to find someone to give me more information about the various shoe choices and then to get me a few pairs to try on. The person I found did help me with this, but seemed really bothered to have to answer my questions and super indifferent about helping me choose the right shoe for me. Considering that I was about to drop at least $80 on a pair of shoes, I really felt like I deserved more attention and help. I did end up buying shoes (not the ones on sale - which apparently would only have lasted me about 300 miles... good thing I asked!) and an accessory for my Nike iPod thingy, but if it were easier for me to find time during the week to buy shoes elsewhere I would have packed it up and gone to find the shoes somewhere else. I will probably return to Runners Roost since I do think they know what they're doing. However, I will look for the "usual" customer service next time and if I don't find it, my next visit might be the last. read more

I no longer patronize Runner's Roost (Colorado Blvd.). In fact, I drive 10 miles out of my way in order to vote with my wallet. I'm not an elite runner, but I've been running consistently for 15 years. I spend about $150 every year to kit myself out. I have never been greeted warmly when I enter the store. When I hand over my money at the check out, I've never been thanked or looked in the eye. I found it so unsettling and off-putting. I have started a personal campaign to make sure none of my friends shop there either. I'm happier when I go see the very friendly staff of the Boulder Running Company on Arapahoe Road, Greenwood Village. read more

Runner's Roost has a great selection of specialized products for runners like goo, do-it-yourself-orthodics, etc. The drawback is the service, which is slow and aloof. I just went there and tried for 20 minutes to get service, but no one helped me. In the end I just walked out, and I'll buy what I need online. I've bought four pairs of shoes from there before and I'm willing to pay extra to support the running community. But I'm fed up with the service and I won't be back there again read more

Ignore the reviews from people who have never run before and then get upset when they overdo it and hurt themselves. Not the shoe's fault or the salesperson's fault. This store actually caters to runners. Don't go in here thinking you can drop $150 on a pair of new shoes and all of a sudden lose 10lbs and run a marathon. Don't go in here thinking you will get Ritz Carlton style service either. What you will get is a good selection and knowledgeable (though not always bubbly) salespeople. The employees here know what they are talking about, and the treadmill analysis is nice (especially if you know what you're looking for). I highly recommend this place. read more

Runners roost is the best! These guys are really knowledgeable about all things running. Out side of the store, I always find the Runner's Roost team at local races (Runnin of the Green, Cherry Creek Sneak, Colfax marathon, BoulderBolder) both running and on the sidelines cheering on other runners. They are a great community supportive business and I am happy to give them my business over big box retailers. read more

Never shopped at the store but I have great things to share about their customer service that goes far beyond. As one of the major sponsors of the Colorado Marathon, the Runner's Roost made it to the expo. Story short, I had forgotten some items I checked-in at gear check before the marathon race started. Hours later after crossing the finish line we immediately drove to the hotel, get cleaned up before driving back home is when it dawned on me, no! Too far out to turn around and mess w/having to go back to retrieve the items we waited until we made it back home after over a 1000- mile drive. We contacted them and explained what had happened. Would you believe they offered to send me a replacement of the exact items I left at gear check and shipped it to me, FREE OF CHARGE! I mean who does that? Runner's Roost, you rock! read more

These guys have taken great care of me for a long time. Every time I switch running shoes, I come in here, and they throw me on the treadmill to make sure the shoe is right for my running style. I've loved every pair of shoes they've put me in. Also they have a bunch of Tri stuff. I was looking all over town to find a good wetsuit rental shop, and ended up getting one 3 days before my race from here for $25 which was way cheaper than everywhere else too. read more

When I came in, I was greeted immediately and the same person (I believe his name was Ryan) stayed with me for the next hour. Getting on the treadmill and then watching a frame-by-frame evaluation of your running is not only really cool, but was eye-opening and informative, too. I ended up trying on 5 or 6 different pairs, and Ryan was patient and helpful with each one, and showed me how to lace my right (that foot is slightly smaller) in a way that would keep my heel from sliding without cutting off circulation. Ironically, I ended up purchasing the first pair of shoes he'd given me to try on. At first they felt "too tight or something", but after going through shoes with wider toe bases and cushier soles, I tried them again and the firmer, narrower shoe just gave me better support. It said a lot to me about the value of his judgement. I also got a pair of synthetic socks and the next day went for the first run I've had where I didn't end up feeling any knee pain. I'll have to save up, since the average shoe here costs $120, but I'm betting my next pair of shoes will come from Runner's Roost, too. read more

The staff at the Roost take the time to get to know you as a runner, walker, casual jogger, or whatever it is that you are. You may have run in the same shoes for years and you think..why fix it if it's not broken. In the end, you may walk out with that beloved style, but you have a whole new appreciation of running, how your body reacts to the same shoes over time, and food for thought regarding future purchases. They also know their gear as well as energy snacks. You need it, they have it or they will get it. Love the Roost! read more

Wow. Thank goodness my podiatrist recommended I visit a running shoe store (even though I am a hiker who never runs)! I have a medical insole that doesn't fit in any of my shoes. These folks took the time to make recommendations and let me try on multiple brands and styles until I found one that works! They even called around to make sure I got the color I wanted. I can't say enough good things about the salesperson, John, at this location. He went above and beyond in helping me with a situation I had that had caused me to quit running for 6 months. It was refreshing to have someone help me who obviously cared about my well being in the realm of running. He gave me a lot of time, answered all my questions and gave me great advice. I had to write this review after reading others. I have been going to Runner's Roost for over 3 years, and have always felt comfortable and left happy. I am not a runner because of knee issues, but I walk on pavement and need the best in a supportive shoe. I like this store because it is laid back. I go in to browse and am not attacked by a sales person who the follows me around. When I have a question, I am always able to attract a sales woman/person's attention, and always get the answer, or referral to another sales woman/person. I buy online for price and convenience, but when it comes to shoes, I need to try them on. I emphasize woman because I am a woman, and I think another woman can better relate to gender specific issues. On price, there is a range from low to high depending on what you are willing to spend... from $$ to $$$$ read more

I just had a baby and am getting back into running after 9 months of not feeling well. I NEEDED a new pair of shoes and have limited time to shop... When I entered the store i was one of 3 customers... with three sales people. Do you think anyone even greeted me, told me to let them know if had questions? HECK NO. I wasn't even sure who the sales people were at first, because they didn't have name tags. I finally had to ask for help - you would have thought that the sales woman had better things to do than help me. Talk about annoyed, unfriendly, and downright RUDE. It took her 7 minutes to bring me ONE pair of shoes. Didn't even ask if I wanted to try on others - I again needed to ask for help. When I asked for her to give me a comparison between models, she told me that it was like "comparing apples to apples" didn't even talk about the features of the shoes and what would be better for my foot. (I used to work in footwear at another store - I know customer service and I know that the shoes were different from one another.... ) Then two other customers came in and this same women greeted them, helped, them, even analyzed the other woman's foot and what type of shoe she would recommend the woman try... Why was I not given similar service? Is it because I have a post pregnancy body and don't LOOK like a runner right now? (I've run 3 marathons...) I will NEVER shop at this store again. I have never been treated so poorly in all my years of shoe shopping. I will drive further and go out of my way to get shoes at a place that treats its customers with respect. read more

This place is always real busy - they give good advice but their customer service SUCKS. We had to special order shoes and it would take "7-10 days" to get into the store. I have been to the Runners Roost in Aurora and Denver over the last few weeks and I have been AMAZED at the excellent service I have received. When I looked it up on Yelp I seriously expected to see way better reviews than below. I honestly do not get it! I am almost always the one to complain about terrible service since it seems to be the norm anymore. I am so glad I didn't read reviews before I went. This is a great company that cares about their customers and it was definitely apparent to me. I would chalk it up to luck except I went to 2 different stores during peak times and was treated very well all 3 times by 3 different people. I am 100% satisfied with Runners Roost and I will be back anytime I need more running shoes. read more

Runners roost really made me bitter today. I run quite a bit, and purchased my first pair of running this from here last august 2008. That time I was there, was awesome. Since then I swing by time to time to get power pack/bars, etc. Well, it finally came to the point where I needed another pair of shoes again. I know this place has pretty high prices, but didnt care do to my first experience. I wanted to buy the excact same pair of shoes. So I call them yesterday, ask about the model and size. They tell me they have them..I go in first thing today. They have every size but mine. I start looking at other shoes, and the staff there is very helpful..they always are..they don't have my shoe size or .5 off size in 3 other models!! Order some frickin 9.5 and 10s!! Your a RUNNING SHOE STORE!! I ended up buying a pair I settled with and left unhappy.. I would suggest ordering online next time..they seem to have better deals there instead of walking in the store front. read more
