I went to meet up with some friends and was surprised they wanted to go to Running Aces. I haven't been there for over 10 years, it used to be a casino with table games, bar, and horse race. Now they have added a hotel. Located right off of the highway, they have a huge parking lot. There were lots of people there in the evening. They will check for your ID at the entrance, once inside you'll see the huge bar with lots of TV playing sports. Onto the right are all the table games. You can order food and drinks at the bar area and dine at the tables. The horse race is open during the warmer season and mostly towards the back. Started off bad. Stood at the front desk holding our bags for 10 minutes to check in. There was 1 person phone talking about a wedding they were going to and another walking in and out of the front desk area to grab her phone, look at us, and walk away. Decided to have dinner at Trout Air. We wanted the Trout but it WAS NOT AVAILABLE!? The bartender was unaware of this when we ordered and had to break the news to us. After a frustrating dinner that was good but not what we came for, we were awakened to thumping bass from the room next to us at 2:30am. After trying to reach the front desk but getting a full voicemail box, they called us back and sent security to ask them to turn down the music, which got louder and more intentional thereafter. We had a fantastic time at Running Aces! We went for the horse races on Sunday, which was family day at the track. There were a lot of kids, a food truck if you were hungry and a betting station if you wanted to bet on any of the horses. We decided to try out a bit of the horse betting and ended up walking away with some money after all! The packet was easy to follow and helpful for us to bet. Also the food and drinks onsite were reasonably priced and very good! Overall we had a blast and will be back for a fun day at the track! read more

Great Place to hang out! This is the first time I have ever seen horse racing with "harness". They are so elegant. The place is not that big, smaller than Canterbury so easier to get around. The Restrooms are clean and fancy. You have to pay $10 to sit on a table but it seems okay, because the food price is reasonable. The food are amazing. The trout smoke taste like it's storebought, but the good kind. The Fried Rice is properly cooked with Charred wok smell and everything. Ate food here several times, not too expensive, but nothing to write home about. When there is live harness racing there are food trucks so you may have better luck eating there. Ambiance is about what you'd expect for a small casino. Service was decent but they could use more servers. It always felt like horse racing was only there because they can't run the card room without it. It's never too busy and there is plenty of parking. My husband and I arrived to the hotel at 2:30pm and was rudely told that check in was at four and our room wasn't available. We were also supposed to have a discount due to a wedding we were attending and did not receive that. When I inquired about our room 1/2 later to the other rude check in personnel, she said our room was ready but they charge an extra 30.00 for early check in. So we paid it to get into our room for our four pm wedding. The rooms are nice, though a bottle of water in the room would be nice. All I know is that they have a lot of " this is our policy" answers and not too concerned about their occupants. But the casino personnel were great and very friendly. A must stay when visiting family, friends, or doing business in the Columbus, MN area. Breakfast was included in our room rate, it was a typical breakfast of eggs, bacon, bagels, toast and yogurt , juices, coffee. We were expecting a bit more of a lavish breakfast considering it is a Casino hotel. The check in went smoothly as we checked in late, checkout went fine as well. Very nice modern hotel, great murals throughout the hotel and other nice art pieces. Casino is walking distance and was also a fun place to hangout. Their food is also very, very good considering it is a small kitchen. Our whole family enjoyed hanging out while some of us took a gamble on our luck!! This is a fun and different hotel to stay at and make sure you get a room with a view of the track. The trainers will wake you up early by taking the horses out for training. This place is a good time, as they offer horse racing, blackjack, other card games. They also have food and bar and both are good and have a lot of options. The parking lot is huge and you will find a spot at some point. Check out the live horse racing deals in the summer as it's a blast and a cheap way to gamble and get outdoor. I made my reservation 2 months in advance for our friends wedding. I was quoted a total of $170 per night including taxes/fees with the wedding discount. I was never given a confirmation. I called a week later to tell them I never received a confirmation and they said they would send one. Still never sent it. We traveled from Arizona and I was worried that I had never received the confirmation so I called the night prior to check in to make sure they still had our reservation. The person at the front desk confirmed it and again told me they would email me a confirmation. Again, never received one. The stay was not good. Our room was SO humid compared to all of our friends rooms. I woke up in pools of sweat every day. We asked for extra towels and pillows multiple times and never received them. We had no shower gel in our bathroom (they left an empty bottle in the shower). Our key card stopped working after the first night and we had to go downstairs and get new keys at 1am. The staff was rude and when we checked out I never received a receipt! Now days later my card was charged $391, which comes out to $195 a night. I called to discuss being overcharged and the manager told me that's what the rate was and since I had no prior documentation (their fault) there was nothing they could do. I know they had my correct email address because I was emailed a survey. This whole experience was ridiculous and we will never be back. read more

We were visiting family in the Twin Cities area and decided to stop by Running Aces for dinner and to watch the horse races one Sunday night. My sister-in-law called prior and had them reserve a table on the patio for us as we have a large group of nine people. When we got there though it was actually one of the round metal picnic tables that had been reserved for us, which is not what we were told when we made the reservation. My sister-in-law went inside and talked to the hostess and she said as long as we ordered as least drinks or an appetizer (we were not planning on eating off of the buffet), that we could sit on the patio. We sat at our table on the patio and ordered the first round of drinks. There are not many tables on the patio but only 2 wait staff that serves the whole patio. Our waiter asked us when we would like to visit the buffet and we told him that, no, we were not going to be eating off the buffet. He told us that in order to eat on the patio, that we HAD to either eat off the buffet or order the fish dinner off of the menu, which is not what the hostess had told us. We told him as much and said that the hostess was incorrect. After some talking with the waiter he allowed us to continue sitting on the patio. It seems the hostess had told a few other tables the same thing as I noticed that none of them were eating off the buffet or ordering the fish dinner. The waiter also ended up comping a round of drinks for us for the inconvenience. We did end up eating food from the food tents that are located outside of Running Aces. I have no idea if these are independently ran or are owned by Running Aces but the food is food typically found in a fair type situation; hotdogs, hamburgers, cheese curds, etc. Nothing fantastic but a ton cheaper to eat there instead of inside Running Aces. It was hard to sit and try to watch the races with the wait staff constantly coming by asking us if the food they were delivering was ours. They seemed to not have any sort of standard table system to note which plates went to which table. It was extremely distracting. Also, there is a no smoking within 25 feet of the building rule which is not enforced as I saw several people sitting at tables right by the building that were smoking either cigarettes or vaping. I am highly sensitive to cigarette smoke and this really is unacceptable to me. I will probably go back to Running Aces as the kids love it but I would never come here on my own. read more

the card room should be inspected by the health inspector, there trays for coffee are always dirty, you have to clean them off yourself. especially in the morning food is on the floor. The black Jack table area is is better run however. In the card room manage isn't consistent with there rule, for example a favorite player brings in Harddie food in every Sunday morning, yet the rules state no outside food. In a way I don't blame him, the kitchen hours have been reduced and food premade. You also have to go up and order your own food because servers are only allowed to bring you beverages. I am creating a review here as there is no place to lodge complaints with this establishment - all that is provided is a generic informational email address and who knows who gets those messages or if concerns are passed on? We returned after a several year absence (when the focus was on racing and not table gaming) for a birthday celebration on the Christmas in July Tuesday which was touted as 'family friendly'. Our party of 10 on the patio was served by wait staff 'Martha' who was foul mouthed, peppering her speech with loud F-bombs with numerous children present. She sneered when asked for list of available wines and the second time when asked by a new arrival to our party for a drinks list, telling him to "go get a Miller'" at the kiosk at the end of the building. She finished up her service by publicly shaming our group for several minutes for not standing during the national anthem. For context: I served active-duty in the military - United States Army- defending and protecting the constitution which affords freedom of speech and expression. She and others may not like it, but it is my right and the right of any other to choose to sit. Last time I looked this country was not totalitarian. We did not stay and left after our meal. None of our party will be back. They lost ten customers that day. OVERALL: The restaurant food was not exceptional, the selections limited. The do provide cheap hot dogs and beer and have a few fair food items outside at the end of the building. Betting is now mostly online which opens you up to privacy and security concerns using their wireless connection or the app (from the convenience of your home...SIGN UP NOW!!!). You can bet at A window the old-fashioned way but the lines are long - they shut down the old betting windows to make room for gambling tables. The interior is crammed with these tables and the reek of cigarette smoke that clings to the customers (and those that outright smoke on the patio - a lot of cigars that day) makes this place decidedly 'family UN-friendly' despite the cookies or toys given out or the one face painting stand that was inside next to the video poker machine. If you are a gambler looking for action, this place is any port in a storm. If you are seeking a venue to relax and socialize with family and friends, think again. Keep the kids away. read more

Running Aces is hands-down the best poker room you are going to find anywhere within driving distance from the Twin Cities. The chairs are comfortable, the room is much more attractive than other local poker rooms and the comp. system is pretty good at $1/hour.
