Honestly, BEST RUNNING STORE EVERRRRRRRR. I have been dropping by every few weeks to pick up glucose gels for my training/races. The staff has been extremely helpful. They even share their pre-race regimen with me which I like since I'm incredibly new at distance running and have no clue about what my body needs or when it needs it. Great, exceptional customer service!!! If you need a good pair of running/hiking shoes, this is the best place you can come in Hawaii and get the proper consultation. I brought my daddy here for his bday gift (I know it's a lame B-day gift, but hear me out before you judge). My father has had a sciatica problem for several years now, and last year he has finally decided to start a healthy life (eating right, going gym, staying fit), yaaay!!! But since he has been running a lot and had improper shoes his sciatica comes back at times. Well just before his Bday his sciatica came back again :( and there I was sad that my daddy can't walk, he barely went to work and really couldn't walk (he limped) :(, so I had to do something about it. I thought he needed rest so he took a break form the gym, but as soon as he started feeling better he and I went down to The Running Room :) We walk in and within minutes we were greeted and asked if we needed any help, I said yes, and they answered someone will be with you in a bit. Great I was excited! :) It was really busy in the store and we really didn't wait long. We were helped within minutes, I wish I knew the name of the sales person because he was a GREAT help! Not only did he know everything about everything, but best thing was his father also had the same problem and he knew exactly what shoes would work for my dad. He brought out about five different pairs and told my dad to try and see which one of the shoes was the softest, my dad chose his pair and then the rep said lets go outside so I can see how you walk in them, everything was fine, the shoes fit my dad very well, and we were ready to purchase :) both of us left with a smile on our face. So far its been a month now and my daddy loves his shoes, he hasn't been having any problems at all, and he said they feel great!!! I'm so so so happy he finally found the right shoes I guess we never thought about getting proper consultation, I guess it is really worth it.. I know I'll be back here if I need a new pair of running shoes, and I will def recommend, eventho this place is already known to be one of the best. Out of all the running stores I've been to on island, this is my 2nd favorite. Runners HI got bumped to last place after too many let-downs. Runners Route took #1. Admittedly, I have never actually purchased anything here though I've been many times. A few times I came with my friends who are marathoners and other times I came for packet pickups for a race I was doing. It's not for lack of shopping. I looked around, they seem to have a decent selection of shoes. The clothes are okay. They do have a wide selection of accessories for your serious runner. Their prices are nothing to brag about, as with most running stores, you pay out the butt for shoes. They have a section in the back of clearance shoes. From what I've been able to gather, their employees are nice and helpful. I still feel like every time I walk into a fitness store, people don't take me seriously. Oh well...I'm trying!! read more

Like everybody else has said already: SUPER customer service. Every single employee at the Running Room knows what he's doing and will go out of his way to help you find the perfect shoe for YOU. I always feel bad for shoe people because they handle your gross, already used shoes with their bare hands (they're probably immune to all kinds of communicable diseases by now, though), but these guys don't even flinch. Nor do they sigh with boredom while they wait for you to insert your custom orthotic into each shoe you try on. Their patience is admirable. Then, on top of just the basic stuff, they somehow seem familiar with every shoe in every brand they carry, which is mind-boggling if you've seen their selection. And they never make you feel stupid! I don't even run (I just like running shoes), but if I wanted to start, I'd probably come to these guys. I've heard them offering advice to people who seem like my level of Extreme Beginner, even on basic topics like how long to stretch each muscle. Don't even bother going anywhere else for running (or walking) shoes. They're open 'til 7:00 on weeknights, so you can stop by after work on your way to Leonard's -- I mean, BEFORE YOUR RUN. And, if you have the Isle Discount card (iDcard), you get 10% off all running shoes (20% of Mizuno brand shoes), which is especially handy because good shoes don't come cheap. Oh, and they have lots of parking. This was my first experience at a store specializing in running shoes. After a ton of probing question about my running, they looked at the wear patterns on my current shoes and observing my gait. Fantastic customer service! Mami worked with me patiently to choose my new running shoes- tried on 10+ pairs! Lacing and running around the shop until I finally decided to go with the new Brooks Levitate. Unfortunately what felt like running in clouds during my trial that late afternoon turned into painful plantar fasciitis after 2 weeks and approximately 40 Miles later. They have a little parking lot in front of the store, very convenient for customers. It's usually no problem to find parking. It just gets really busy when they have packet pickup there for a race. From my very first visit here, I have received awesome customer service. This is the place to go to when you're looking for running, trail running, and other sports shoes, as well as whatever you need for running - apparel, nutrition, tools, books, etc. I was looking for a good quality pair of running shoes. They have good selection for you to try on. You can test it by going outside and doing a little run in front of the store to make sure these are for you. If you're not sure what your shoe size is supposed to be, they have the foot measuring tool to use. You feel valued as a customer here. My existence was acknowledged when I entered the store, I was asked if I was looking for something or if I need help with anything, and they did help me find my true running shoes. At the time, I was running with the cheaper Sports Authority shoes. The staff here are all super friendly and willing to help. No, seriously, when I was searching for "the one" pair. They brought out several for me to try on. I had shoes laid out on the floor in front of me. Tried some on, didn't like how some felt, rejected those, test ran with the ones I liked, and was able to determine what I wanted. Then they put away all those shoes they took out. After doing the Great Aloha Run in the worst fitting shoes ever, I was ready to get some help from a specialty running shoe store! No more cheapo shoes for me! We were greeted right away by an employee named Ryan. I told him what kind of running shoe I was looking for - extra cushioning of course! He found a pair of shoes in my size. Wow, a perfect fit! I probably would have never given the shoes a second thought in other stores if I hadn't walked in here. Thanks! I like that they have several benches spread out where you can try on your shoes. I popped into this place just to see what they had for inventory and ended up getting amazing service. I can't remember the guys name but he was awesome. He watched me walk and run to see how my foot landed then looked at the wear on my current shoe both outside and on the inner padding. From there he determined I needed a shoe with more support. He brought out 8 different pairs of shoes and we methodically went through each one and compared them until I found a pair of brooks that were a perfect fit for me. I just started running, and I couldn't have found a better place to get me going. The service here is amazing. Right away, after two steps - Ryan (I believe that was his name) came up to me and asked if I needed help. He got right into measuring my feet, and explained that when buying running shoes - you always want one size larger than what you wear. Then, he watched me walked across the store to figure out which shoes would be the best for me. I have pretty high arches, so it's important to me that I have the right shoes. He immediately went to the stockroom and came back with 8 pairs of shoes! He let me try them on and run for a little outside on the sidewalk to feel what it'd be like on harder surfaces. Awesome! I settled on one style and ended up being a little bratty and asked if they had different colors. He wasn't even phased and brought back two other colors in that style for me. What's even more exciting is that my shoes ended up being 40% off! I even asked about dri-fit socks, and he showed me the stock and what he preferred and why (ended up getting Feetures). I've been here a couple times for running shoes over the years, but I had a sort of backwards, sporty Cinderella experience here last week that was especially worth sharing... Came in needing a new pair of running shoes for my upcoming marathon in February. Told the guy which shoes I've been using this year and that I was looking for either the same model in the latest version or something similar. When he found that they were out of the newest Mizuno Wave Alchemy in my size, he proceeded to bring out I'm pretty sure 8 pairs of the same type of shoe (motion support for flat-footed folks like me) in all the different shoe brands (Saucony, Asics, Nike, etc). He told me to try on the first pair and take a 5-second run outside the store. When I got back, he asked me how I liked them, and I told him I did. He then instructed me to keep one side on, put on the opposite side of any of the other pairs he had set out (so that I'd have two different shoes on at the same time), and take another quick run outside. When I returned, he told me to keep on the shoe I liked better and replace the other one with a new shoe. I repeated this process 8 times to find out which shoe I liked best (in the process totally working off my lunch at Tenkaippin, score). Ironically, in the end it turned out to be the first pair I tried on (the Brooks Adrenaline GTS), which I had left on the whole time but just felt awesome. Plus, they happened to be last year's model (which I didn't care about by that time since they were clearly my perfect Cinderella slippers), so I got them at 20% off the base price which was even more awesome! It was such a great deal and amazing experience in customer service that I had no problem picking up a new pair of Superfeet brand support insoles, an 8-pack of Nuun electrolyte tablets, and a white Brooks running cap as well, all of which I needed anyway. Kudos to you Running Room! You have earned my respect for life. My dear husband will probably get mad at me for writing this review, but I just have to. After our grueling marathon, my husband and I realized our running shoes were dead. It was time to get new ones. So we made use of the 20% marathon sale. It's always good to bring your old running shoes so the workers at The Running Room can see how you're wearing out your shoes. Wellllllll, let's just say my dear husband's running shoes had major halitosis a.k.a toe jam. Oh, it was pretty rancid. But that dear sweet young man who helped us at The Running Room said with a smile, "No problem, let me take a look at your shoes." He proceeded to carefully turn the shoes upside down to inspect them all with a smile on his face. And he wore no gloves or gas mask while handling my dear husband's shoes. I just stood there and stared with awe. That is excellent customer service. The young man then helped to explain to my husband how he was wearing out his shoes and proceeded to get him fitted with a couple shoes. My husband even got to test run the shoes and needles to say, he walked away with an awesome pair of running shoes for a pretty good price. The Running Room has two sales every year, one for the Great Aloha Run in February and the second for the Honolulu Marathon in December. These are great times to stock up on quality running shoes. These people are so nice!! I met the manager at a meeting once and she was extremely pleasant. I met another manager who's friends with my cousin.. again, super nice. I know what you're thinking: duh, they have to be nice. they're the managers! Well, to put it to the test I went to the running room with my girlfriend who needed help and advice with new shoes. The sales associates were so accommodating and helpful in finding what she needed and the concerns she had. She ended up purchasing a pair of shoes and was then told that if its in salable condition that she could return them if they don't meet her needs. Not once were we uncomfortable or felt that we needed to leave with something. This is definitely something that people will appreciate. The one bad thing about this place is that the selection of shoes are quite limited. I wish they had more to choose from. If they did, I'm sure I would buy from them all the time. They do carry products that Sports Authority and other places don't so make sure you call them or stop by if you can't find what you need elsewhere. I found my CEP compression socks there! read more

They're selection seems a bit small. I needed a running shoe and left with nothing whether it was because they didn't have my brand or size. Today I ran all over town from Sports Authority at Ward to Neiman Marcus at Ala Moana trying to find a sports bra that I can run in. I should have gone straight to the Running Room, which is where I ended up. They have a great range of the "Moving Comfort" brand of sports bras. They had my bra style, my size, my colour and the bra was $3 cheaper than the RRP! I'll be sure to head there first next time I need something for my renewed running fever. read more

Great selection of running products and a great staff. I've been here many times before and each the experience has been the same, great. The staff although young looking is very friendly and eager to help. Most of the time when I come across youngsters, they are preoccupied talking amongst themselves or just don't want to help you. Not here, I was greeted at the door and asked if I needed any help and told to freely ask them if I did since I declined the help. I was in just to buy a hat since mine was haggard and needed to retire. I admit, the hat selection was not as much as you would find in Sports Authority, but those hats were just the hats I were looking for. I found a hat that suited me best and decided to look around to kill time before lunch. If you need socks, they have a plethora of socks along their wall. If you need running apparel, they have a nice selection. If you need shoes, selection is of course not at much as Sports Authority but, you have a staff that knows running. They can pair you to the right shoe and that makes a big difference in the world. My shoes are still running strong at the moment. I will definitely buy a new pair from The Running Room soon after running this year's Honolulu Marathon. read more

I may be the only non-runner reviewing this place. I also am probably one of the few people if not the only one who comes here to find shoes that are cute not caring about the shoe's running capability. My husband's new passion has been running. He has run a marathon and a bunch of shorter races since we got together... and now he can't get enough so he needs shoes every so often. We came here numerous occasions and the last time was this past weekend when they had 20% off all shoes. AWESOME! We both bought a pair of shoes and they even accepted our PlayHawaii vouchers on top of that. Woot! Their sales people are always nice but sometimes when they're busy, it's hard to flag anyone down. I try to support local businesses especially when do speciality things like running shoes for my husband since he needs stability type shoes. He loves the people because they're always willing to help him and they always tell him to try running in them to make sure they're okay. I am sad that my feet don't cooperate so I could get a pair of five finger shoes but that's okay. Parking is kinda tricky since there's so many people coming and going but there's always a spot opening up. PS. Running Room is conveniently located on Kapahulu Ave - a neighborhood which I think is the heart of all Running in Honolulu. This is a great place to stop by on your way to Kapiolani Park for a run to pick up some Gel Packs. Running Room has a wide variety of running shoes and also a good place to stock on your Running gear such as gel paks, gels, accessories, etc. The store also has it's own parking lot so never a problem to get in and out. Again, this is one of few stores on Oahu to stock up on running gear. Check this place out! If you are a hard core runner, don't go to Sports Authority. The staff here are SO helpful and knowledgeable!! I have been training for a half marathon and recently had a foot injury a couple of months ago. It got to the point where I couldn't even run 2 miles without intense pain in my feet. To save myself a trip to the doctor's and some money, I decided to see if my shoes were the issue. Sure enough, that was it. One of the employees gave me 3 different shoes to choose from, answered all my questions, and I was able to get a pair of cute new running shoes. The next day, I was so excited to try out my new shoes, that I ran 5 miles PAIN FREE. Keep in mind that I had not gone running in about two months. It was such an unforgettable feeling and I would highly recommend coming to this store for shoes and running gear in general. I would also consider myself a newbie to the running world, so I found the employees to be very encouraging and kind, even when I asked a million questions. Something cool I didn't know was that they have a 30 day return policy. I believe as long as you have your receipt and the shoes + box, you are able to return them even if they are worn. I am hardly a competitive runner (maybe tortoise-ing a 5k here and there, and GAR), but the Running Room is very open to those of all ability levels (or sub-levels!). It's small with a high-quality selection, and the staff are the antithesis of a shoe saleman persona. I felt at my leisure browsing and received help when asked (rather than in response to hovering). The fact that the store's located within walking -- or running, as may be the case -- from my house makes it that much more convenient to update my sneaker inventory. Do ask for deals! Great selection of running/athletic clothes. They have clothes and shoes for men, women, and children. They also have great running socks, equipment bags, and a pretty killer sales rack in the back by the dressing rooms. The staff have always been both friendly and helpful. They have a very strict return policy, but as long as you hang on to the receipt and don't wear the clothes, it's not a problem. We had to exchange out an outfit two different times and ended up having to return it, and they were really patient with us. This review is based purely on a phone call to the Running Room. What a knowledgeable staff person who helped me. I complained of my heels rubbing my shoe while walking; the staff person shared a different shoe-tying technique. I am disappointed in the store not having children's sizes (which I take). The website stated that they could meet various running and walking needs. However, according to the staff I spoke with, the store has only three walking shoes. Still, to the store's credit, the person offered to size me when I did find a pair of children's shoes to walk in. Thanks! It was two days before my first marathon and I had read reviews on the the service and products. I was so mad with the traffic I turned around three miles away in rush hour and turned around again and said I am already down here. I am SO glad I did. When I entered I forgot the gentleman who helped me but he was THE BEST. I told him it was my first marathon and asked what I need. He showed me what gel packs and gave me the pros and cons of getting them. Since I had never used them, he advised me not to start experimenting, well I got them anyways(paid off in the end) He then showed me the options of fanny packs or shorts with built in pockets to carry my gels. He even let me do test runs outside to see if I likes the nylon or elastic band. Then I bought a body glide stick. I saw they had Vibriams which I already have and he showed me the New Balance with Vibrim bottom and explined the beneifts. He was very knowlegable and patient. My gf came here to find shoes to run in for the marathon. The staff is a big help and very knowledgeable but i found many of their shoes to be over priced. Maybe $10-$20 dollars more than you might spend at sports authority. I believe i saw some Japanese brand shoes their. My gf told me they are some of the best quality shoes you can find. They also have an assortment of running shorts and shirts for men,women, and children. Sports bottles, and marathon gel packs. The parking is very scarce. I will start by saying that I have problem feet and my exercise is walking so it is important to have the right shoes. For years I have used Nike Pegasus Zoom and I had no problems. But the recent Nike Pegasus has changed in design and is no longer comfortable for me. I was so frustrated trying to find another replacement shoe, even purchasing shoes and having to return them. My friend suggested I go to the Running Room. I am so glad that I did. Gaston, who is the manager of the store is wonderful! He really takes the time to listen to your needs/concerns and knows the appropriate shoe that will suit you. He even insists that you wear the shoe outside of the store so that you can actually feel if the shoe is comfortable for your activity. I don't know of any other store that will allow you to do this. He is so knowledgeable about foot ailments and the shoes he sells. He doesn't rush you and takes his time, making certain that you find the perfect shoe for your needs. Well everyone seems really nice at the store. I wanted to pick up some ASICS running shoes for my wife for a Christmas gift. When you go to ASICS website they list Running Room as having them in stock and one of the places I could buy locally. ASICS site had them for $99 I called Running Room and they wouldn't give me the ASICS price and said they are $150. If you wonder why box stores are going out of business? If your going to be competitive you really need to do what the other stores are already doing with price matching. I try to support local but I also can't just throw $50 away. They had one style of men's running shirt with a pineapple and "Hawaii" written on it, and two styles of socks with either "the Running Room" logo or "Hawaii" on them. My running partner went in today in an attempt to register for an upcoming half marathon and to pick up some hydration equipment. He left without his questions answered re registering (the website directed us to this place) and with this to say: "service was lame, so - so at best". Thankfully we were able to register online. It's unfortunate that no one seems concerned enough about the mediocre service at a this place to do something about it. Either that or we are just catching the employees on bad days. ?
