Honestly, the only good things I can say are that the location is great (right in the heart of town, with water views if you get a window seat) and the reservation process was simple online. We made a reservation for 8pm on a Saturday, and honestly, they weren't packed (they still had plenty of tables open). When we arrived there was no one at the host stand, and when they came they didn't check us in right away. Once we confirmed the reservation it took about 10 minutes for us to be seated, and there was a couple that came after us that had a reservation at the same time and were seated before us (okay, no big deal). We did get a window seat, which was nice. But this is supposed to be an upper scale restaurant in the area, and the silverware we were given was dirty, so not a great start. The server came to take our order, we ordered mocktails and a huckleberry lemon drop as well as the bread basket and the cured meat and cheese plate- compared to the Cutwater, honestly, no comparison. The teens didn't even drink the mocktail (which the server did take off the bill, and that was nice) and the lemon drop was okay. The bread basket and meat plate were fine, but we wouldn't order them again. My son ordered the 12oz ribeye (which was nearly 60.00) and I would say at least 50% of it was fat, and his was overcooked. I ordered the flat iron, and mine was undercooked, so he ended up eating mine. The herb roasted potatoes needed seasoning and felt like something they simply tossed on the plate. My daughter's Caesar salad was as expected to a side salad. Our server never came to check on us after the food was brought out, and we waited for her to return after we were done with the food for nearly 20 minutes. We stayed in McCall for our 40th anniversary and had dinner here to celebrate. Absolutely charming inside and out. The staff is wonderful and the menu is not overwhelming and very unique. We had the Elk meatloaf on a recommendation and it did not disappoint. The layers of flavors are off the chart, from the richness of the Elk to the maple bacon gravy combined with the mash potatoes, which had a hint of cheese. The lounge is very warm and cozy as well. We will definitely be back and we give this a 5 must visit. read more

We decided that the fish preparation was so good on our last visit that we would give Rupert's one more try. We were glad we did. The fish was cooked perfectly. It was so moist and flaky and perfectly seasoned, not over or under. The risotto was also cooked well which is a feat for risotto. The food wasn't our concern as last time it was tasty and well cooked. This time the service was much improved. We had the same bartender, John. He remembered us from our previous visit and greeted us warmly. We didn't order an appetizer so there was no issue with the timing of the delivery of our entrees. We were provided with utensils immediately after ordering. Our menus were taken away which gave us the needed space for our food and beverages. We arrived at 5pm and we were lucky to get bar seating. John informed us that they would stop serving entrees in the bar at 6pm as a bridal party had booked the entire outside patio. He was the sole bartender, so that was understandable. I would recommend that if you don't have a reservation to arrive early for bar seating. The seating in the bar area offers views and has seats at the bar as well as high tops and a window seat in a quieter area. I would definitely recommend Rupert's Fish Fridays. read more

The food was very good. The drinks, skip the old fashioned. The waitress was very kind. We only gave this location a 3 star review because we had trouble getting the bill. We were close to the hostess stand so I motioned to one of them that we would like the check. The lady approached our table rather oddly, so I asked if she worked there because I thought I had made a mistake. I asked if she worked at the restaurant and she rather rudely stated, "yeah I work here." I told her we were looking for the bill and she left. She went to the bar area and looked around the corner and yelled to us, "cash or check?" Keep in kind there were other diners she was yelling past who were probably enjoying their dinner and didn't need this interruption. She brought the card reader over and said the first step was to leave a tip, but she didn't care of we did because it wasn't hers. The whole experience ended rather badly due to her unprofessional approach. Rather disappointing. My husband and I came here in 2015 for our 30th anniversary and we loved it. Fast forward to 2025 and our 40th anniversary. Oh my gosh! What a difference! The greeters/waiters were dressed casually which did not go with the restaurant. My wife and I are celebrating our wedding anniversary today in McCall and came to Rupert's for dinner based on the Yelp reviews. We were able to make reservations for 5 pm. When we arrived, we were seated at a very nice window facing the lake, an excellent start. Shortly thereafter, a party of six were seated across the aisle from us. Their tall, dark haired, male server came almost immediately and began taking their drink orders. Meanwhile, we were still waiting. Our young female server eventually came and we declined drinks and ordered our food. For appetizers, the olives and a basket of bread. For entrees, the flat iron steak and the salmon. The steak came with mixed vegetables, including snow peas, and potatoes in a wine gravy. Very good, though one side of the steak was a little burnt. The salmon was grilled, crispy on the outside yet moist and flaky on the inside. Very tasty. It came with a vinaigrette salad and an artichoke tapenade. Yummy. Since we let them know that it was our anniversary, they brought a complimentary small brownie with a sparkler, a nice touch. I take one star away for the service. Though our server was nice, she was not particularly attentive. After she took our order, a runner delivered our appetizer and our entrees. She stopped by once to check on us and, later, brought the brownie. But, she was not around much for us. In fact, we got tired of waiting for her to come and let us settle our bill, and went to the front to pay. We found her standing around, chatting with another worker. Very nice looking place. We came here for our anniversary. Beautiful view of the lake but then they sat a table next to us and we couldn't look at the view without looking like creepers. The tables were so close together that it felt like we were sitting at a long dining table. We could hear their whole conversation and vice-versa. It was not a very romantic and a bit awkward dinner. I'm giving it a 4 star because of the view and our great waitress otherwise it would be a 3 star in my book for lack of flavor. This restaurant is located in the historic hotel McCall which has a lot of character and is a neat place to look around before going in to Rupert's restaurant They have a very simple menu with not a ton of choices, which I think is usually how higher end places are, also Everything is all cart. Started off with Shrimp scampi. 6 Jumbo prawns in a bowl of sauce, garlic, white wine, butter, and bacon. Prawns were cooked just right but the sauce was a bit lacking, it only had a hint of butter and couldn't even taste the garlic or the wine however, there were slices of chopped bacon in the sauce which was different, but overall could have been better. Second was the Cesar salad that was flavorless. Lettuce was cool and crisp but The things I tasted most were the croutons And the pepper put on it ... even though there was plenty of dressing ( I did not have anchovies on it) Entree was Flat iron steak and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare, tender, juicy & no fat or gristle-with an onion Demi glaze, again neither had much flavor except the pepper. It was served with Gruyère au gratin potatoes and they were great (with a little salt) creamy cheese and a nice crispy top, the mixed veggies cut julienne were lovely and flavorful cooked perfectly to alienate Our server was super sweet and timed everything perfectly. Sat by a window in the main dining room with a view of the frozen lake and it was quite nice. It's pretty noisy in there as there is an open bar area to the dining room. Does most of the food taste fine? Yes. Does the restaurant look nice? Yes. Is the location great? Yes. Is the place a tourist trap restaurant attracted to a hotel? Yes. The food is cook right but the chef is a little full of themself. The menu is all over place and quality varies. The website says "flavors of the Southwest, Asia, and Mediterranean" which correctly means the chef has no focus. First, skip the venison meatballs, the yak dumplings, and the elk meatloaf. They covered in too sauce so all you taste sauce. Why pay for meats you can't taste. Second, who charges for bread? And we are talking $3 for some bread roll that I'm sure was purchased at the Albertsons down the street. It says "salted butter" on the menu but the tabs look just like the tabs of butter you get for free at any other restaurant with foil removed. The "Chef's Beet Salad" is just a salad with some beets and pear put on top. for a beet salad, you really don't get beets. They won't let you order entrees at the bar. First time I've been told that at a restaurant. Cocktails are good so the bartender know there stuff. But they are no "Mixologist" as the website implies. All the cocktails on the menu are common cocktails with different names. I'm guess they think they can get away with it because they swap one brand of gin for another. read more

Just like a lot of the restaurants in McCall you want to make a reservation ahead of time. The menu is quite small and there are a lot of gamey items on there. Even the soup of the day was trout chowder. If you have picky eaters or someone that craves simpler palates you may struggle to order from the menu. The salads are on the small side. The beet salad is arugula topped with beets, quinoa, poached pear (canned?), And candied pecan. No saltines that is usually added (in the form of cheese) to a beet salad to balance the sweet. One of the best meals I enjoyed in 2018, a superb combination of quality food and tremendous customer service. Looking for a place to eat on a snowy weekend night, I went to Rupert's (located within the downtown Hotel McCall at the 3rd Street/Lake Road elbow) on a friend's recommendation and left nearly three hours later realizing I had one of those unique dining experiences. When I arrived, Rupert's was about to host a private party, and wasn't seating in the main dining area this night. But the staff's warm greeting at the door included an invite to sit at the bar and eat, and I'm so glad that I stayed. Thanks to server/bartender Sam for her truly amazing customer service and interaction. She made the visit a great one with her awesome personality and energy. Hall of Fame level service from start to finish. Ordered parm fries and Himalayan Momos as appetizers - wow. The fries had great seasoning and I learned about Idaho's "fry sauce!" The momos, steamed yak dumplings with a superlative chutney, were incredible. Selected one of their chef specials with Sam's input, and it turned out to be an excellent decision. The Mahi-Mahi dish was perfectly cooked, and surrounded by an assortment of veggies that were both local and delicious, especially the lentils! It was not only tasty, but a visual masterpiece also. Thanks to Sam and Cookie from their staff on their interaction. A great meal in a wonderful downtown McCall setting, but what made the experience so memorable was Rupert's superlative customer service. So thankful I went here. read more

Well, I was really looking forward to our meal, as we really enjoyed Rupert's 3 yrs ago. Unfortunately, it was fair at best. Brussel sprouts OK, good flavor but undercooked. The half chicken was tasty, well cooked and good sauce. The elk meatloaf was tasty. The halibut special was unimpressive and all 3 we ordered were overcooked.
