We loved our dinner at The Narrows for our anniversary. Our server (I think it was Matthew with a short beard and shaggy blonde hair) was amazing. He was friendly and a great conversationalist. He talked about the Lodge, the lake, the city, and about the food. We enjoyed some appetizers and great food. They gave us a delicious amuse-bouche when we sat down and a palate cleanser before dinner. The tenderloin was perfect. The meal was great and better than I expected. The ambiance was great as we had a table sitting over the lake. Sadly, their were fires nearby that affected the view, but it was still a pretty view. You'll want to make a reservation for this fine dining restaurant. We were seated at a window table, which we requested, but don't guarantee. The table and view was excellent. Our server Brittany greeted us promptly and was very pleasant and attentive to our every need. My wife had the Chehalem Chardonnay and I had a glass of the Prisoner. Both were served promptly and were perfect. We ordered the Pepper Jelly Glazed Pork Belly as it sounded very unique. A word of caution though, the portion is very large with two big cuts of pork belly. The jelly glaze and seared crust on the pork belly was excellent and tasty. The pork belly itself tasted very good, but wasn't as tender as we expected. We expected a much more tender meat. That isn't to say it was tough (it wasn't) or very good (it was!). However, this is very rich for an appetizer. It could really be a main entree! My wife ordered the special for the day, which was a surf & turf with scallops and a "Denver cut" steak. She ordered the steak medium (defined by Brittany as pink but no red). She said the scallops were perfectly cooked. Tender and tasty. However, the steak was medium rare at best. Brittany agreed that it was not medium and took it back to correct. When the steak was returned, it was better, still not medium, but acceptable. That's when my wife discovered how fatty the cut of meat was. A large part of it was all fat and not edible. I on the other hand ordered the 8-Oz Double-R Ranch Tenderloin, medium rare+. It was perfect, juicy, flavorful, and satisfying. Cooked perfectly. We ordered a side of Asperagus which was delicious, but again be aware, the portion was more than enough for two and probably could have been shared by 3 or 4! I am a food snob and the dish I got was seriously the best meal I've had all year! We went here with low expectations as some of the food in McCall is "meh" but we were so blown away by our dinner!!! We were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary (17 together!) and our server Matthew was really great! He made the night really special! The sorbet brought tears to my eyes as it reminded me of the sorbet I used to eat at this little pizza place in France as a little girl! So yummy! We were staying at the lodge and when we called the hostess to get a table she said we couldn't get in... We wanted to eat there at like 5pm.... She said we wouldn't be able to get a table until 830pm...We decided to walk in anyways and they ended up being able to get us in. There was a point where there were open tables! ...So that part was a little lame but I won't remove stats for it because I feel she just needs more training on phone etiquette and how restaurants are ran.. she was nice enough just was a little annoying that they weren't going to get us in... but other than that the views were amazing, chairs comfy, service excellent, food excellent! Don't listen to the less than stellar reviews. My wife and I shared the pork belly appetizer, wedge salad, and Wagyu NY Strip. The kitchen split the portions without any pushback. The steak was seriously one of the most delicious cuts of meat we have ever experienced. Our server Bart was awesome and did not rush us through any of the courses, even though our reservation was for later in the evening and by the time we left we were the only ones in the restaurant. Poorly managed, the manager is rude, her and her team cannot turn tables to keep reservations on time and told us we could eat in the lobby if we didn't want to wait an indefinite amount of time past our 9pm reservation, or she'd just cancel our reservation if we didn't like those options. After spending thousands on our stay at the hotel, this is not the service our two families traveling together expected. Would avoid at all costs unless you want to wait forever and be talked down to and then handed a check for hundreds of dollars for that pleasure. We left and ate elsewhere - no way we'd be giving them a dollar of our money. The manager couldn't manage her way out of a paper bag. They should fire her and I'm sure things would improve. A nice touch with the knife selection before entree arrives; though my knife seemed a little dull for a steak knife. The receipt was delivered on a clipboard, which didn't match the aesthetic of the restaurant - but minor detail. Overall, very enjoyable and food was prepared and presented very well. read more

I was visiting from California and my friend and I were looking for a yummy steak and we definitely found it. Too start I would like to say the view is incredible and the food was really really good. I got the dry aged New York and my friend got a bone in ribeye. Both were perfection. We shared the pork belly app, corn soup and twice baked potato as well and honestly it was totally worth it. Unfortunately, we experienced mediocre service and were treated like second class citizens by our server. We were there for 3 hours and I understand that they don't want to rush you and what not but I'm sorry that is too long for me. People were coming in and out in the the time that we were there. The worst part was when the bill came. My friend and I split the bill and don't mind paying at all, but our server charged us for the wrong table which was $100 more ($191 each instead of $140 each) Luckily we noticed and they informed us they would need our cards again, ok seems fine. Well now unfortunately my friend has 3 separate charges on her card for $191, $145 and $374?!?! I have 2 charges for $191 and $145?! That is FIVE CHARGES! $1046 in charges? We called and they said they would call back well guess what they never did! Guess we will have to dispute the charges but it is so annoying to go through all this trouble just for dinner. read more

Jordan, our server was phenomenal and ever staff member was on point- doing they're job cheerfully, efficiently and in synchronization. Outstanding wine selection, dry or wet aged steaks and appetizers. The oysters were ice cold, fresh & perfectly accompanied. We went family style sharing the creamed spinach, lobster ravioli, hamachi & seared tuna. We were even offered our choice from 3 different steak knives! Fancy shmency when a steakhouse gives you the choice of Japanese, German or French steel..... the French....well....when have you ever heard of an aggressive good ....French? The German....good steel but ...we're Jewish after all so went with the Japanese and the Bison;) but now for the review.... service.... not the quality of service fitting a fancy steakhouse...the waiter was attentive...WHILE he was around...yet most of the time he wasn't seen... causing long wait times on orders from extra drinks to bread to onion soup not being hot.... I don't think it was the wait stuff as much as poor management... the soup was bad... the bread was super soft and cheese wasn't baked to create that crust as expected.... the kids opted for the kids chicken which was WAY over salted. Same went for our side of mushrooms as well as my Bison steak which was also cut with way too much fat and bone.... not what you expect for a $95 piece of meat.... surf & turf was good, tenderloin was good, espresso martinis were good but shouldn't have taken 25 minutes for the 2nd tound... overall.... way overpriced for the experience and quality in both food and service..... read more

Let me start with the good. The view was pretty of Payette Lake. Service was good. The food wasn't. The heirloom tomato salad was a tomato (NOT an heirloom variety) that had been refrigerated too long on the truck. They apparently pride themselves on sourcing their product from local farmers. NOT! We told our server who went back to the kitchen to check and came back and told us the tomatoes weren't good. They certainly weren't heirlooms. They were tough skinned and very water logged tasting. We split the salad and each got one slice of tomato. For $18, the portion was ridiculous, especially given that the dish wasn't as presented on the menu. Their wild foraged mushrooms were anything but. I asked our server where the mushrooms were foraged and she just cringed. She took them off of our bill. Another bait and switch. They were grocery store bought portobellos. I would avoid them at all costs. The steaks were fine but not remotely worth the exorbitant prices. They almost looked fried. Diners are given a choice of three knives to cut their steak. These knives are normally high quality, but the ones we chose were dull. The steaks were served on slate stone plates. No wonder the blades are dull after cutting on that. After the other bait and switches, I question whether the steak was actually wagyu as stated on the menu. It wasn't anything special, especially for $90. They are selling product that isn't what it is. If you want to pay for what you don't receive, then dine here. If not, you can definitely find better elsewhere. read more

Worst service I've ever gotten! We went to the Narrows and decided to eat at the bar, for a change. It was pretty empty. Just a couple of other tables. Our bartender was so put out by everything. We had to wave her down or interrupt her conversation with the other employees, just to order our initial order. When the order came out, it was wrong and we were overcharged for both our food and wine. Had to get a manager involved, but still felt like we were overcharged. Couldn't cook a steak properly to save their lives any of the 3 times we have gone. The menu is very limited, the dessert menu is awful (literally just put some normal damn dessert on here please) and the steaks aren't even good cuts (when the fat on a steak tastes bad, you need better beef). We moved to McCall and wanted a good steakhouse to go enjoy someone else running the grill and this place just falls flat on their face. Chef Danny, sorry for the delay in getting this out. I am not sure I've ever seen such a radical transformation in a restaurant food and environment. After the first time I went to the narrows last year, I swore I'd never go back. We stay at shore lodge a lot and just eat at cutwater. We were there a few weeks ago and ordered food at the main bar and is was excellent! We talked to server and he said there was a new chef in town! He actually got him to come out and introduce himself. He was insanely nice and engaging, which made me like the new concept even more. We ordered from or at the narrows for the remainder of our stay. Everything was superb. I told chef Danny I think people will start driving in just to eat there. Anyway, McCall finally has a very fine dining experience that is worth the money. We will eat there most of the time when we visit McCall now!! Congrats on turning that place into something excellent. If they still have it, get the French onion soup. It was superb, but so was everything else!!!! read more

Best meal in McCall, no question about it. After a week in McCall, I finally decided to try this place despite the low rating. I had eaten at so many horrible, but highly rated on yelp, restaurants in town that I had lost all hope of finding a tolerable meal, let alone a good one. We had a 745 reservation for our anniversary, did not get a table until 830, then the hostess who was extremely rude tried to put us in a stuffy back room off the main dining room. When we asked to be seated in the main dining room the hostess acted like we were the worst people in the world and stated "I would have to clean off a table for you so......" she finally did. Ok the food! Risotto app was pretty tasty, nice Caesar salad. Which does not come with the meal FYI, they will charge you $13 for this and make it seem like it comes with dinner. I ordered my steak and was asked if I wanted a Caesar salad or soup. So I can deal with all this, however when ordering a $99 steak and asking for it medium at a very expensive steak house it better come out medium. Mine came out cooked uneven. 1/3 of it was medium, 1/3 mid rare, and 1/3 raw. This place has potential but not with who ever is allowing all this to continue, beautiful spot for a restaurant, really is a shame. read more

Mentally prepare yourself to spend quite a bit. My wife and I stayed at the Shore Lodge and decided to try the conveniently located restaurant for dinner our first night. This is a very fancy establishment and has extremely attentive service. We were seated next to the window facing the lake which provided for a gorgeous view. I decided to try their 8oz Buffalo Short Rib and order a side of Pesto Mashed Potatoes. The rib was quite delicious but I was very disappointed that the order did not include anything else aside from the rib. Seemed a bit expensive to just eat some meat half the size of your fist ($25). Luckily, I ordered a side of Pesto Mashed Potatoes which was pretty good. Overall, a great experience, loved their service, amazing ambiance but I think I'll save my money and go elsewhere. read more

I got to try this place out for the first time this weekend as my husband and I were celebrating the end of finals. For dinner I had the stuffed quail and the most amazing giant glass of red wine. The quail was perfect. The flavors were rich and new and they exploded to take me to a whole new world. I finished the entire plate--including the perfectly cooked veggies. I have zero complaints about the food and the service, which was friendly and fast. The only bummer for me was the price. I realize that they're trying to create an experience for their guests, but it ended up being almost $100 for my husband and I to have a full dinner.
