I have taken several cars here and things started out okay until I decided to buy a used car for my…read moredaughter. I had them look it over before purchasing this Toyota Rav4 and they assured me it was as great car. Within months several things went wrong with the car that racked up thousands of dollars in repairs, way beyond the original cost of the vehicle. These were things that a mechanic should be able to see and predict, like the transmission completely giving out. Within a year I had put $12,000 into repairs on this car that they had originally assured me would be a great purchase. It was the transmission that really soured my entire experience with Ruby Isle. They sent it somewhere to have a rebuilt transmission put in, which took at least 6 weeks. It cost over $6,000, but came with a warranty, a warranty we were still under. A few months after the transmission replacement, my daughter drove the car to California to take a temp job for 6 months. A week before she was to drive it back home, the replaced transmission gave out. Her lease was up, she had to leave and was forced to buy another car to get home. I had called John at Ruby Isle as soon as this happened and he wanted me to bring the car in. I could not bring the car in as it was now dead on the ground in California. He said I should have given them more notice, even though I had called and not heard back from him for a number of days and there was no way to give more notice. This is how things happen - she's in CA and out of her apartment in days with no where to go and she can't get home. John said he would contact the transmission place they had used to see if there was somewhere she could take the car out in CA, but he never got back to me in time (said the transmission people hadn't gotten back to him in time), so that car is now a complete loss and I never got a cent back from the warranty on that transmission. I also never heard back from John again, despite his promise that he would look into the warranty with the transmission people. He completely ghosted me, haven't heard from him in months now. I suppose he figures it's over and done, but I lost over $12,000 on that car in less than 18 months after his assurance that this was a good purchase for my daughter. My confidence in Ruby Isle is shattered and I can never go back there. I will never trust their expertise, and I was completely taken for thousands of dollars, over $12,000, in the end.

Fast forward a 3k miles in one year and the transmission failed again for which they had it another month to "completely" go through it again. I asked if the warranty would get extended for all the months they had it during the warranty period and Bob said "No, does Best Buy extend your warranty when your TV breaks?" Of course all the towing costs are on you when their work fails. Would not recommend using DJs Transmission service at all.

Beware of this place. They are EXTREMELY expensive and they have lost my trust. Previous to this- about 5 months before they had already repaired the sensor. Of course they told me it is another issue (not the same repair). Their diagnostic fee is very expensive as well at $225 just to take 5 minutes to plug in a machine to see the codes to what is wrong. I took my car to get a second opinion and they were able to repair my car for $800 less!!! Also they noted the work done on my sensor was not done well by Silver Lake so they had to repair it as well. I'd recommend finding a local auto repair show instead. They are more trustworthy and fair in pricing.

The rental company wanted to charge me for a tow and a full tire replacement, talk about stressful! It was a Saturday and most shops were either closed or too far away. I found Rick's Car Care on Yelp and saw they were listed as open until noon. When I arrived, there was a sign on the door saying they were actually closed on Saturdays. I decided to knock anyway, and I'm so glad I did! To my surprise, a gentleman named Jimmi answered the door. After I explained the situation, he graciously offered to take a look at my tire, despite being closed for the day. He quickly assessed the damage and was able to fix it with a simple plug. Not only did Jimmi go out of his way to help me, but he also treated me fairly and didn't try to overcharge me just because I was from out of town. The whole repair was fast, VERY affordable, and I was back on the road in under 10 minutes. Jimmi was an absolute lifesaver! His kindness and willingness to help a stranger truly made my day. When I went to pick up my car, I was told a different final price and he said it was due to taxes. Even factoring in the sales tax, the final total was $20 over what it should have been.
