These guys sent 2 different crews out yesterday and today to remove a huge cotton wood tree from my back yard and I must say that both crews did a excellent job. None of my neighbors could believe how fast and thorough they were and then today the other crew grinded down that stump! They went down over a foot to get it and then even filled it back in after they were done. My husband said the last time we had it done by someone else that they just left a big hole in the ground. Had a tree crew cut down my neighbor's tree a few days ago, and they left wood chips and debris spread all through my driveway, across my yard, and all over my personal vehicles. I understand tree work gets messy, but part of being professional is making sure the cleanup is done right and respecting neighboring properties. Unfortunately I had two 65+ foot silver maple trees that needed to be removed due to decay and rotting. The Denver city forestry staff examined the trees and provided the required permit to Rushton Tree. I received a few bids from city approved contractors and chose Rushton due to value and good work they did on previous jobs for me. Martin and Julio were exceptional workers who arrived on time and removed the two huge trees safely and efficiently with an excellent cleanup job. This is the second time Rushton has helped me w/ a tree crisis - this time a tree uprooted July 3- and who can get anyone on a 4 day holiday weekend? We were under a deadline with the city to get our cottonwood trimmed. They were able to get us in with in a couple weeks and they did a great job. Very nice guys to work with. I had a concern about 1 branch because the city of Longmont was coming back to see if it passes their inspection. They went back up and trimmed the branch in question off with out question. Great experience with Larry and team in March 2022. We called to request an estimate for some delayed tree trimming and shaping in our yard. In total it was 9 trees total, some very very tall and mature. Larry was able to come out same week for an estimate, which the cost was reasonable given the work involved. We told him to fit us in when available, expecting it to be a month or two. Instead he surprised us by calling that a crew could come 10 days after the day he visited. The crew - wow, amazing and talented. I admit I secretly judged from the window thinking they were cutting the wrong branches. Nope, I was wrong. I was so impressed at their ability to see the tree and trim what needed to be trimmed (aka dead or broken) but also give the trees a lift and open them up. I'm still in shock how they climbed the trees with no fear! Their cleanup was great. I would highly recommend them! read more

Rushton tree service came to me by referral from a neighbor who uses them. Larry Rushton himself came out and quoted me for the trimming of a large catalpa tree in my front yard as well as the removal of two ailanthus (tree of heaven aka weed tree) trees from my property. Scheduling was not as straightforward as it could have been, with a missed visit and a failure to communicate between Larry and office. If you read through reviews on Yelp and Google, it seems most peoples' issues are with the office, scheduling, and communication. Just expect some hiccups there and your expectations will be fine. I worked with the office to schedule my service a week and a half out at 8am. The team ended up showing up 45 minutes late but called 10 minutes out to let me know they were close by. They initially told me it would take 3 hours to complete the work. A team of 3 ended up completing all the work and cleaning up within 1 hour. So net, I'll consider that a win. The pricing was competitive; $650 for the trimming and 2 removals. The workers were all friendly and personable. I would recommend Rushton Tree Service as well as use them again for future needs. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I was invoiced for work never done. I both called and emailed to say I wouldn't be paying for a job not completed. I also said they should not plan to show up to do the work once they realized their error. Well, who should show up today with no notice? My call to the front office was not answered and since I wasn't at home, I refused the job over the phone with the Crew Leader. We moved into a house with a HUGE maple tree in May and as winter drew closer I started to eyeball the hanging dead branches with a bit of worry. Not to mention that once this summer when my husband and I were eating dinner on our patio a branch came out of the tree like a spear and stuck in the grass - straight up like it had been thrown by a skilled hunter! I called Rushton Tree Service and within a day or so Larry came by to provide us with an estimate. The estimate was incredibly competitive. I called my dad to talk it over and he said he received a bid from a competing tree service and the cost was nearly $200 more to trim a smaller tree than our giant maple. After making an appointment the Rushton team came out within two weeks to trim our trees. Not only did they do a great job on the trees, our yard was SPOTLESS after they were through. Except for the invoice neatly printed and left on our front door, you would never have known anyone was there working on the trees. Amazing! Having been a contract customer for 20+ years I'm finished with them. They have the worst customer service ever. Jessica their receptionist is worthless. I've called them 4 times and no follow up. I even spoke to their arborist about a month ago who said he'd drive by and look at my tree that needs attention and I can't even get a response. I now have 3 trees that need attention. So I've used Rushton Tree service over the years on various properties I own and I've always been satisfied. Today, however, when I called to find out when I was on the schedule to have some trees trimmed on one of my rental properties I was given the runaround by whoever answered the phone who sounded young and unprofessional at best: Who did I talk too ? Exactly what date did I get my estimate? What month did they tell me they were coming? When I explained that I had previously called 'about a month ago' to ask for an estimate and to please mail it to my home address or call me but instead it was left at the rental property then she insisted that I needed to know who I talked with and exactly what day. When I said I had no idea she then proceeded to say they were three months out and there was no way she could go through three big notebooks looking for my estimate. Seriously? I said I couldn't help that I didn't remember the exact date or person and I was just trying to give them $800 of my money she said, and I quote, 'we have plenty of other customers that we can take money from'. I can't complain about the actual work. Nothing untoward happened, but the attitude and the ability of the folks in the office to communicate is lacking. Someone there has a real attitude problem and needs a little assist with the people skills. If you don't like your job , then quit. Don't take out your angst on the customer. I don't know if their tree trimming is good - they trimmed my tree before I even agreed to use them!!! All I wanted was an estimate - they left one in my door, then the next day my tree was trimmed! I never agreed to that. I never got an invoice, then 15 days later I got a "Past Due Invoice" and the price was raised by $100! And they used a first name nothing like mine. I hope their tree trimming is better than their customer service and communication. The office people (and answering service who never seem to answer the phone) must be totally incompetent. Had Rushton back to remove a 60 year old silver maple that is unfortunately dying in our back yard. Great job again like last time. It was a tricky area due to the size of the tree, fence, power lines and how close the tree was to the house. They had climbers that got the job done and cleaned up the yard as well. If I could give them ZERO stars, I would. I used this company 3-4 yrs ago to take down two trees in front of my house. They did a wonderful job. Since then, I've referred them to SEVERAL people. Fast forward to 2021 and I needed 3 shrubs on one side of my house removed. They come out, leave an estimate, and I call back to schedule. I then called again to add 2 shrubs on the other side of my house (one of which is turning into a tree). I even asked if texting her pics would help, she said yes, so I texted her pictures of the shrubs to speed things up. I called the next day to ask what the bid would be. She said I'd have to get a new bid. I asked why did I bother sending pics then?! She said they could call me when they arrive to do the other shrubs and give me a bid. They didn't show up for their appointment. I called several times before getting a girl and rescheduling again. 2nd time, they no-showed. I called again and said I've used them before and referred them several times and told them how frustrated I was. They called their ppl and called me back and said they'd come at the end of the day. 3rd time, again, they no-showed. I don't know what's going on with these people but if I could take back every referral, I would. They were extremely fast to come out and leave an estimate. The people that cut the trees are incredibly rude. They were hired by neighbors. Very inconsiderate that they would block me in but that happens. What I found to be rude is that when I told the man I that I exit the alley to the right (as it was clear from snow and ice) he proceeded to try to lie to my face about the entire city being covered in ice as opposed to just in half of the alley. He refused to pull his truck forward so I could exit the clear way. He also refused to tell me if he was hired by the city or a resident. We have been in an ongoing 5+ month saga with this company. I'm sure the work they do is fine, but the business management and customer service is terrible. Over the summer, we came home from work one day to find then trimming one of our trees- this was completely unannounced and we had not agreed to this service. We did pay and thought we were done with this company. However, 4 months later in November, they send us a bill for separate services which they did not complete. The bill was posted 10/28 for services supposedly rendered 10/29. This work was actually completed by a different company in September. We called, explained the situation, and they agreed. Now, just this week, we get another bill from them stating our bill (for this service they did not provide) is past due. We are still trying to get them to stop contacting us, to stop billing for services they did not provide- but most of the time they do not answer the phone, they do not return messages, and if they do answer the phone they are usually rude and unhelpful. read more

I'll be honest - Working with Rushton was a little bit of a mess, but they were cheap as hell compared to other quotes. Backstory: I was cited by the city for a dying black walnut in my backyard and needed to have it out within the month. I called around and most quotes were north of $1300, but Rushton was like $700 or something and my neighbor endorsed them. So I said, "what the hell" and agreed to let them do it. I had ONLY ONE CONDITION - they needed to leave 5 ft of the trunk off the ground so I could build a tree house for my kids on it afterwards. On the day of, they were prompt and cut the thing down fine, stacking the wood for a haul off tomorrow but when I returned from work I found that the stump was way too high (like 8 ft or something) and called to ask them to trim it back to under the fence height (like 5ft high) per city requirements. They agreed to do it the next day. Great! I said. When I get home from work the next day, what do I find? The stump is GONE. completely gone at the ground. I called in and they really had no excuse and the office folks apologized and said they distinctly told them to leave 5 ft of trunk. They gave me a further discount and we parted ways. It was really annoying to ask twice for a very specific thing and have it completely botched, but such is life I guess. So - if you want economy tree service, Rushton is your jam, but I'd suggest not asking for anything other than a full boiler-plate removal. read more

Two weeks after I originally called the company and set an appointment I finally reached someone in their office. It turns out they do not service where I live. I find this amazing since I live less than 20 miles from their office; they must have a minuscule service area. Recently a tree I've been babying for years, has been infested so badly the leaves are dying and falling off the branches. I called and emailed RUSHTON about it and got no response -now the condition is out of hand. I also called numerous times over a three year period for an estimate to have another elm removed. I finally called another company. I complained via email and I thought I would share their response: _________________________________ ! ! ! ! I had a tree trimmed with Rushton. All was fine, until they made some sort of mistake and came back while I was out of town and trimmed another tree on my property unauthorized. They never admitted to it and that tree has since died. Now I have a huge tree in my yard to deal with that is dead.
