I am very pleased with the prune that Splintered Forest did on my very large, 60 year old silver maple. The old adage that you get what you pay for is true. In the past, I have used companies charging about a 1/3rd of what I paid Splintered Forest, but they ended up hacking my tree and leaving unsightly cuts that caused damage down the road. On the other hand, Splintered Forest uses certified arborists that really know what they are doing. My technician took videos and pictures as he pruned, and kept me up-to-date throughout the process. Update: They did reach out and offered a partial refund for the cleanup I had to perform after their workers left. I'm giving them back the 1 star removed for that. I'm also giving them 1 more additional star because of the outreach they did to make things right. They went above and beyond what I expected. It wasn't 5 star service but I'm willing to give them back 1 of the stars missed over the communication issues with the solution they provided afterward. The people at Splintered Forest are excellent to work with. Both Brad and Kara are very personable and know their business. The two gentlemen who came out to do the work were friendly and very knowledgeable in doing their job. I had a number of burned trees on my property from a fire a number of years ago and they did excellent work in dropping the trees and cutting them up into sections. They just cut down a large cottonwood using their knuckle boom crane and it was truely awesome. They were done in only a few hours including cutting down another small tree and trimming off a large damaged branch on another tree. Very professional & courteous as well. They cut down our best privacy tree, a spectacularly thick and tall pine tree. It was not marked to be cut down and it was not in the way of anything. It was surrounded by large moss rocks, which made this tree even more spectacular. When I brought up the issue, they came way short of making it right. At the very least, you'd think they would refund the cost of cutting this tree, dig out the stump, and put a little tree there. They didn't even come close to that. I did not want the reminder of this tree, so I agreed to pay "their cost" of $100 to have the stump grinded all the way down, but they stopped a couple of inches above dirt level and they didn't clean up the many chips left behind. I sent pics of the issue and they did not respond even after I emailed and texted. I paid the bill, however, I suggest you find a place who cares about customers and owns up to mistakes. read more

First off the gentleman that came out was very nice and gave me his sales pitch on the tree as all of the companies do. I believe they would do a good job if I was to hire them but the quote being $650-$750 was on the high side. I had 7 companies total come out to bid on my tree. All of the companies are bonded and insured and have certified arborist except one which wanted to charge me $800. I am one to do my homework on the type of tree I have to the type of pruning, shaping.... I am not sure how there pricing is determined. Maybe being a smaller company they raise the prices to off set the overhead cost but for me $375-$450 is more realistic. Good luck to them and I am sure they won't run into to many people like me that do extensive homework. read more

They were diligent with their work and available to talk and make sure that they were cutting the trees that needed to be cut. We did have an issue arise regarding the scope of work. I want to give a shout-out to Splintered Forest. If you need tree service, I think you would be very pleased with these people. This is one of those companies that is a pleasure to work with. From the very first phone call to the final billing, they were friendly, competent and behaved in a super professional manner. I have lived in Evergreen for almost 20 years and in this area, it pays to have a tree service that you can trust. Earlier this year, we had to fire the company who had been doing our tree removal because of their lack of respect when on our property. So, when we needed to do a home addition and Jefferson County required fire mitigation, we had to start from scratch to find good folks who could do the job. Someone recommended Splintered Forest and I gave them a call. The owners were at my house for an estimate within 24 hours. They were attentive and carried themselves in such a way that let me know they could be trusted. When I asked them how they wanted to handle payment, they wouldn't accept even a small deposit until the job was finished to my satisfaction. I went with my gut and hired them and it was a really good decision. On Tree Removal Day, the team called before coming to my house. When they showed up, they came to my front door, introduced themselves and asked permission to enter the property - this was VERY IMPORTANT to me because I have a territorial dog and I needed to make sure she was confined before commencing the day's work. After I gave the go-ahead, they immediately proceeded to execute their job in an efficient manner, being careful not to damage anything in the course of doing their job. I especially liked that they did the required trimming of trees that were not being removed in an artistic way so that my forest yard didn't look "butchered" when they were done, but were attractive and well groomed. It is one thing to be able to run a chain saw, but quite another to be able to do it so that the end result is nice to look at. It was fun to watch them work and not at all stressful because they were careful to adhere to strict safety standards. When the job was done, they made sure that they left the space scrupulously clean - they didn't leave so much as a twig behind after completing their work. One thing I liked was that this crew of good natured lumberjacks clearly enjoyed their work. The got along well with each other and had such a great attitude that the whole day seemed happy and relaxing. The time flew by and instead of being hassled by the noise and mess, they made themselves a joy to be around. The Defensible Space inspector arrived within 20 minutes of the Splintered Forest team's departure and he not only passed the inspection with flying colors, he commented on the very nice job that was done. This guy sees everything and indicated to me that I was very lucky in my choice of a Tree Service. He asked for the name of the company that had done the work so he could recommend them to future clients. It is rare to find a business that is this attentive to detail, so respectful and ethical. So many companies try to get as much as they can while giving as little as they can get away with. It was SO refreshing to find folks who do top notch work at a fair and reasonable price. I wish all companies were as good as Splintered Forest. In two days they cut 40 trees near my house for fire mitigation. They charged me a reasonable amount extra for climbing a tree that was too close to the house, and did not charge me extra for several other close trees they had to climb. They worked safely, intelligently, and professionally. They were also less expensive than other tree cutters I spoke to. These guys did a great job on our huge cottonwood in Applewood. It was over 4 feet in diameter so I'd definitely recommend them as someone who can handle large jobs. I recently had Splintered Forest out to my house to take down a 50ft+ pine that was leaning towards my house. I also needed them to chop up a lot of debris that we had collected.
