Take the time in line to figure out what you want on the menu because when you get to the counter you need to order. I have to start out saying the reason I didn't give 5 stars is because access is not as wheelchair accessible as it could be. My parents had the camel rider and they loved it! Thick with meat they enjoyed the pita rider, something they enjoyed in years past. Russ Doe's is such an underrated, local treasure! Located right by the stadium, Russ Doe's is a convenient breakfast and lunch sandwich shop. They're open really early so I sometimes stop by before work - I recommend the breakfast cup. I pick up lunch two or three days a week and grab my usual chicken salad sandwich, chips and a sweet tea (they make the best)! They do not have a fryer so don't count on having fries or chicken tenders. They serve classic sandwich shop food like steak in sack, burgers, or even a pb&j. They only accept cash, though they do have an ATM on site if you need one. Plenty of parking. My mom used to go to Russ Doe's for lunch back when she was my age, now I'm carrying on the tradition since she's retired. I'd love to see this local gem get some more attention! read more

Definitely a working man/woman's lunch spot. Reasonably priced, super fast and friendly service and excellent sandwiches. I appreciate how they always have a big crew of employees working and if anyone is available, kitchen or counter, they will start on your order before you even reach the front of the line to pay. Yes, cash only but this is no surprise and even if you are especially low on cash one day they have a peanut butter and jelly on the menu you can order for pocket change. We like the pita pocket sandwiches. I ordered the special and it was nicely seasoned ground beef with onions and all the fixins. My husband's go to is the grilled chicken pita but he says the burgers and steak sandwiches also deserve a glowing recommendation. I had read reviews about this little sandwich shop in the industrial district right near my client's site before I even flew into jacksonville. Sure enough, I was pressed for time and the client said we should grab lunch there and bring it back to the office. On cold or rainy days they are slower, so you won't see many ppl sitting outdoors on their benches. I ordered the philly, with a bag of Dirty's chips, a slice of carrot cake and a large sweet tea. Where else can you get all this for under $10....not many places at all!! I'm not sure what type of meat they use, but it appears to be thinly sliced layers of beef, then rolled in half and grilled. You may not even see the menu at all. It's easy for your mind to wander while gazing upon the memorabilia encompassing nearly any and all events that have ever happened at nearby Jacksonville Municipal Stadium (that's Gator Bowl for the old schoolers, Everbank Field for the new kids on the block). As you take a trip down memory lane gazing upon pictures of that Roling Stones concert you'll probably bump shoulders with dock workers who want to get in and out for their call ahead orders, so eyes down and focus on ordering some food! Now I have been eating at Russ-Doe's for maybe going on 25-30 years now. It is a locally owned and operated by the same family for al of those too. You get in and you get out. That's outside for seating. You don't want to dilly dally around here. You look at the menu on the wall and order or you will be cut in front of with a quickness. Their are 5-6 ladies behind the counter making sandwiches. So you order, pay and within a couple of ,minutes you are eating. This is a quick little breakfast and lunch place that caters to the dock workers of the factory workers both with not much time for lunch. The women or even Russ who still works the counter during lunch most every time that I have been in there. Today I got the Russ doe's special and a normal camel rider. Both of these together cost me about 8.50. The special is some seasoned ground beef and it is seasoned with a combination of spices that leaves me wondering what the heck is the one spice that I can't put my finger on. The camel rider was just that some bologna, ham, lettuce, tomato, and mayo in a pita. This is a worker bee type of place so you will not get no foo foo here. You will get a descent sandwich at a really cheap price and you will get it fast. read more
