*Cash Only* Hubby and I met up for lunch at Russ-Doe's recently. They were fairly busy during lunch rush. We only waited a few minutes to order and our sandwiches were ready quickly. We headed outside and grabbed a picnic table. We both ordered the club, mine with wheat bread and his with white bread. I thought the club was very good. Simple yet flavorful and fresh. The bacon was cooked perfectly, the lettuce was shredded, the tomato was sliced thinly and it had the right amount of mayo. If you're looking for a quick and affordable lunch, check out Russ-Doe's.

I have to start out saying the reason I didn't give 5 stars is because access is not as wheelchair accessible as it could be. My parents had the camel rider and they loved it! Thick with meat they enjoyed the pita rider, something they enjoyed in years past. I had the egg salad, freshly made that day but just a tad in the watery side today The personalized customer service was great and it seems staff really know their clients! I will be back for sure!

Russ Doe's is such an underrated, local treasure! Located right by the stadium, Russ Doe's is a convenient breakfast and lunch sandwich shop. They're open really early so I sometimes stop by before work - I recommend the breakfast cup. I pick up lunch two or three days a week and grab my usual chicken salad sandwich, chips and a sweet tea (they make the best)! They do not have a fryer so don't count on having fries or chicken tenders. They serve classic sandwich shop food like steak in sack, burgers, or even a pb&j. They only accept cash, though they do have an ATM on site if you need one. Plenty of parking. My mom used to go to Russ Doe's for lunch back when she was my age, now I'm carrying on the tradition since she's retired. I'd love to see this local gem get some more attention!

This place serves delicious breakfast that you can pick up before work. They are quick and have great customer service. You can call in orders as well and they will it have it ready. The food is simple but great tasting. The ham was delicious and on the thicker side. I will definitely be back to this place you can't beat the food and price.

Russ Doe's is the kind of place you could live in Jacksonville all of your life and never know about. The moment you happen upon it, you'll wonder why you never discovered it years earlier. This is the kind of old school neighborhood mom and pop breakfast and lunch spot that you'll suddenly yearn for more of once you rediscover what they once felt like. You won't see a menu that caters to dining fads like grass fed beef, duck bahn mi, wasabi kale chips or fourme d'ambert. Russ Does focuses on time proven classics at affordable prices. You may not even see the menu at all. It's easy for your mind to wander while gazing upon the memorabilia encompassing nearly any and all events that have ever happened at nearby Jacksonville Municipal Stadium (that's Gator Bowl for the old schoolers, Everbank Field for the new kids on the block). As you take a trip down memory lane gazing upon pictures of that Roling Stones concert you'll probably bump shoulders with dock workers who want to get in and out for their call ahead orders, so eyes down and focus on ordering some food! My favorite is the Russ Does special: seasoned ground beef, small diced onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a hint of mayo stuffed in a pita. The ground beef is seasoned with a 'special family ingredient'. It's certainly not run of the mill seasoned salt, the taste is more complex with a hint of sweetness that is complemented well by the whipped mayo. This and a soft drink will set you back $5.50. Another favorite is the mesquite grilled chicken: large chunks of mesquite flavored chicken with sautéed onions, lettuce, tomato and cheese inside a pita. There isn't a sandwich on the menu that will run north of $6. You'll receive your order before you even have a chance to pay for it. The friendly women behind the counter almost trip over each other to receive and prepare your order. With food in hand, head outside to enjoy your meal seated at one of the many picnic tables under the cool shade of three large oak trees. I have to imagine this is what eating a homemade lunch out on the countryside would feel like as you seek out the nearest shade tree, dig into your brown bag lunch and enjoy the cool breeze while relaxing from a morning of hard work on the pasture. Interesting factoids -Russ Does is cash only. There is an ATM on site, however be prepared to not rely on the modern convenience of a credit card. I hate carrying cash, but I think this cash only policy simply adds to the old school aura that is Russ Does -The true untold secret of this under the radar institution? They have the best banana pudding in town! -One of the few places in town where you'll likely be eating next to members of the Jacksonville Jaguars coaching staff. -Current and third generation family owner, Russell Smith, gave his children quite the athletic DNA. His daughter was an accomplished cheerleader at UNF and his son Rusty Smith became the first quarterback from Jacksonville to start an NFL game when he led the Tennessee Titans against the Houston Texans on 11/28/10 (which would explain the odd presence of a Tennessee Titans helmet next to a Jacksonville Jaguars helmet next to the ATM inside the restaurant).

I am embarrassed that it has taken me 10 years to finally try this place! The food is amazing, and I am now on a journey to try everything on the menu. I started with a club--as simple as it--and have come to the conclusion that something so simple can only be that delicious because it is dusted with crack. It's the only explanation! So this has become my Friday lunch spot until I die or the owners retire (hopefully the former!). If you haven't tried this place, hit an ATM (because they are anti-credit cards) and stop in--you will not regret it!

This is a quaint no frills spot down the street from Ever Bank Stadium. I loved it! The hours are 6am - 2:30 pm.

My very first visit brought back fun foodie memories when visiting Puerto Rico several times and eating many homemade dishes when I lived In NJ. My favorite Latin sounds could be heard while outside of the restaurant and more so upon entering. The interior decor was spacious and made me feel like I was away on vacation in P.R. Staff was welcoming and friendly. The owner helped make me feel at home and was super professional. Then came the food and my refreshing non-alcoholic drink. My appetizer was a lobster empanada...Oh my how yummy! One of the lunch specials of the day was a Chinese Puerto Rican fusion style fried rice platter. My choice of protein was the popular fried pork chunks. French fries and an egg roll were included in the platter. Another popular favorite condiment was the "Mayo-Ketchup" sauce that one can drizzle on the food and as much as you please! To help wash down and add a nice sweet balance to the food, I ordered the "Guayaba" fruit juice. Fruity and tropical taste of its own. I skipped breakfast knowing that this visit would require some nice portions to enjoy. I was right and very pleased with the overall taste of the food. If you haven't had Latin food from the Caribbean then hopefully you'll consider visiting Flavorikan and try some of their cuisine. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

This is one of those places that we love but haven't been to in far too long. We both tried things that were new to each of us tonight as well, which was cool. I ordered The Ole Smokie, with everything on it and choose cheddar cheese. My first thought when it was brought to the table was "oh, I'll probably have to go at this with a fork & knife" but I decided to give it a shot as intended. I'm glad I did because the bread held up surprisingly well! As far as ingredients go, the brisket was good and smokey. There was a good mix of everything else and more than enough cheddar. My wife ordered the Chicken Cheesesteak. She also had a choice of cheese and she picked whizz. The thing that separates this from what people might expect is that it's chunks of chicken, not shredded chicken. She said that's not a bad thing at all, just a change from what some might exoect. She thought it was a welcome change. She liked their cheese whizz a lot and liked the roll as always, so she was glad she tried it. It's worth noting that both sandwiches were big enough that we both took half of each home. I didn't get the name of the two people that were working there this evening, but I'd still like to give then a shout out. They were both incredibly patient with the customers ahead of us and they didn't make us feel rushed even though we were there fairly close to the time they close on Friday evenings. Ordered at the front counter and was greeted by a friendly young lady... good start. I went in planning to get the muffaleta off the specials board. They checked on it, but no luck... they were out of the cuts needed. I was pointed toward the Italian, but my buddy already grabbed that and I felt like being different. Noticed another special on the wall, a smoked brisket sandwich. Can't remember the exact name, but that's what I went with. Instead of chips or their homemade tots, I grabbed the balsamic roasted brussel sprouts as an appetizer. Tables weren't the cleanest and were a little wobbly, but nothing deal-breaking... we made it work. Food came out pretty quick and looked solid. Flavor-wise... a little mixed. The brussel sprouts were very flaky and leafy, almost crumbled apart. You really had to work your fork to get a bite. I was picturing larger roasted halves. Sauce was fine, nothing bad, nothing special. I'd give those a 3 out of 5. The brisket sandwich was interesting. The meat was very fatty and kind of tough to chew through. Not sure if that's just the cut or the prep. I ate about three-quarters of it. It wasn't bad, just didn't hit the way I hoped. Probably still thinking about that muffaleta. Another 3 out of 5. I'd come back, no doubt... but next time I'm sticking with what they're known for. Those cheesesteaks always look great, and that's probably the move. Today was about trying something different, and I'm glad I did... even if it didn't knock my socks off.
