If you're in Jacksonville and haven't stopped by The Blue Boy Sandwich Shop, you're seriously missing out. This iconic spot has been a staple in the community since 1962--and you can feel that legacy the moment you walk in. Even better, it's part of the Blue Zones Project, so you're getting food that's not just delicious, but aligned a business that understands healthy living. Now let's talk about the sandwiches...We got the chicken philly and steak sandwich-both were EXCELLENT! Packed with flavor and generously made--you'll likely be saving half for later (if you can resist finishing it). And don't skip the smoothies--they're the perfect balance of healthy and tasty, and honestly, one of the best ways to round out your meal. This place isn't just a sandwich shop--it's a Jacksonville gem. Trust me, you won't regret it.

Wow! This place is amazing. The customer service was good and the food was amazing. I can't believe I am now just finding out about them. I got the #9 Steak Sandwhich Combo with Fries and Cheery Limeade. This sandwhich and drink are unforgettable. I highly recommend you check them out soon!

I stopped by here for a sandwich on my way out of town. They take your order at the register when you walk in. They fill your drink for you while you are there. The turnover was pretty quick, even with a couple of online pickups showing up when I did and a big family at the register when I got there. I ordered my all-time favorite Reuben sub with 1000 Island dressing. The sub was very tasty and filling. The size of the sub did have me expecting a little more corned beef, though. Karen was the name on my receipt. She was the person filling drinks and taking orders. She was the nicest person ever. If you stop by for a sandwich, bring cash for a discount. Also, hope your person at the register is Karen.

Holy SMOKES! My first visit to Blue Boy Sandwich Shop was no less than amazing. Walking in the place it feels like its just one of those long time, institution spot that delivers on high quality food and excessive portions. I went in right at lunch and they had at least 10 - 12 customers in there waiting ahead of me. 1 cashier and 2 in the kitchen throwing down. It was a bit of a wait, but when it comes to good, no GREAT, quality food (and the insane portion size), it's WORTH IT. When my name was called and my order came up, I went to grab it off the counter and that thang felt like it weighed 10 lbs (I'm exaggerating of course) but it had some weight to it and I immediately knew... this was STACKED. I opened it up, gave it a good glance over to think about how I wanted to tackle this thing and dove in. This was one of the best Cuban sandwiches I've had in a long time. Not a traditional Cuban by means, because they do put it on their big bread they're famous for and they're not pressed on the grill, but, boooiiiiii... it was not lacking in anything. Meat, cheese, pickles, FLAVOR, this slapped so hard. I will definitely be dragging my husband here VERY soon.

You have to try this place! First time visiting and it was everything was delicious. We ordered the #8 steak and cheese with onions and the buttermilk fried chicken bacon ranch sandwich. Make it a meal to add fries and a drink. The sandwiches reasonably priced and are HUGE!!! If you eat the entire thing you will be in an all day food coma. You'll eat half for lunch and have the rest for dinner. Karen took our order she was nice and efficient. I don't remember the guy's name in the back but he was super as he thanked us for waiting and asked how everything was. The food is worth the wait. If you're in a hurry this is probably not the place for you. It took a while but we didn't mind, we were not in a hurry and we could smell the goodness being made. It's an older place but has character. Old various photos, plenty of room for seating. It seemed like more people were taking their food to go. We sat and enjoyed our meal. We also took home the other half of our sandwiches since they were so big. If you're in the area and have never been to Blue Boy, you need to check them out. You can thank me later.

I ordered three sandwiches for me and my family and when given the bag I swear it was about 20 pounds!! I have never seen sandwiches like that in my life! Me and my parents were amazed! I took a bite and was so happy with my order even though I was informed by a customer who frequents the place and had been coming since she was a kid said every sandwich is good! After hearing her I knew we were in good hands!

Man this is definitely a hidden gem in the city!! We tried the #8 Steak Sandwich!! Must try!!

This is such a cute spot! Old timey, simple, amazingly kind staff! Menu is straight to the point. I ordered the #8 Steak and a soda. Took about 10 minutes for my food to come out. There's a cutesy dining room in the back, but I opted to take my sandwich to-go. I grabbed my sandwich and was at first impressed with the size - just to open it up and see it was mostly bread???? Okay, fine. I took a bite. The steak was not good. Hard, bland. The bread was overpowering. I removed most of it. That wasn't much help. I hate wasting food, but I really only ended up eating about half of this. Maybe I need to come back and try something else?!?! The pictures in a lot of these reviews don't look anything like my bread sandwich.

    Italian sub
    Sarah D.

So I saw a review for this spot and knew I needed to try it! No joke these subs are super big, basically 4 in one and the price is reasonable. We ordered 3 different ones; hot ham and cheese, pizza burger and the Italian sub. Each one was so good and made perfect! The staff were super friendly and the order time was good. Will definitely be back again.

It was my first time and I was quite disappointed! The only two people working were pleasant which is why I didn't rate them 1 star. However, my buttermilk chicken sandwich was very underwhelming and I waited 45 mins for it.

    Super Club Sandwich

Fresh bread, fresh ingredients. Massive sandwich. Could easily feed 4 people. Staff was friendly.

A Jax staple with the most massive sandwiches! I ordered the cheeseburger sub and it was very good and flavorful. My only gripe was the wait time as it was quite lengthy to receive my meal. The sandwiches are definitely big enough for two and delicious!

Mini super club- lots of bread

I just want to start off by saying this is my FIRST time at this establishment. I placed my to go order through Grub-Hub...NEVER AGAIN!! They-Grubhub or Sandwich shop charges double the price for food! I purchased the Jr super club-NO MAYO! Came up to $30.00 online, but was $14.95 in store, $10.00 online for onion rings....$6.75 or so in store! I understand that the restaurant needs to make money as well as the delivery platforms, as the gentleman "kindly" explained this to me, as he thought I was the delivery pick up lady! The sandwich IS huge, and pilled with meat, and a whole lot of bread...but the fact that it still had mayo on it, and i specifically asked for NO MAYO, just turned me off, even more! YES, I could've went back for them to correct it, but I already waited almost an hour for this, and was already back in Orange Park. I paid $43.00 for something I didn't eat. I might just have to take the meat off and put it back on my own bread...as I hate wasting money like that! I would go back again, just beware ORDER IN STORE AND BE PREPARED TO WAIT!

Calamari was prepared well and not too chewy. We shockingly each chose a salad: the bistro steak, the chop chop Asian, the goat cheese, and the salmon. Each one was incredible. Mine was the chop chop and I absolutely loved it! It was HUGE and you can bet I ate every single bite. Loved it!' We finished with the brownie topped with ice cream for the birthday girl, it was extremely tasty! Thanks again to Evan for making our night! He was a fantastic waiter! It was solid... confident, balanced, exactly what you'd hope for. But then came the onion rings, which I ordered based on a subtle but unmistakable social cue: everyone else seemed to be eating them. Reader, they were correct. These were not mere onion rings. These were structurally sound, texturally precise, and philosophically complete. Large, fully cooked onions, no trace of that unpleasant raw bite, encased in a crisp, golden coating that somehow maintained its integrity from first bite to last. Crunchy, consistent, and deeply satisfying. Naturally, I paired them with blue cheese dressing because I'm from upstate New York, and that is not a preference, it is doctrine.

This is one of those places that we love but haven't been to in far too long. We both tried things that were new to each of us tonight as well, which was cool. My first thought when it was brought to the table was "oh, I'll probably have to go at this with a fork & knife" but I decided to give it a shot as intended. I'm glad I did because the bread held up surprisingly well! As far as ingredients go, the brisket was good and smokey. There was a good mix of everything else and more than enough cheddar. My wife ordered the Chicken Cheesesteak. She also had a choice of cheese and she picked whizz. The thing that separates this from what people might expect is that it's chunks of chicken, not shredded chicken. She said that's not a bad thing at all, just a change from what some might exoect. She thought it was a welcome change. She liked their cheese whizz a lot and liked the roll as always, so she was glad she tried it. Ordered at the front counter and was greeted by a friendly young lady... good start. I went in planning to get the muffaleta off the specials board. They checked on it, but no luck... they were out of the cuts needed. I was pointed toward the Italian, but my buddy already grabbed that and I felt like being different. Noticed another special on the wall, a smoked brisket sandwich. Can't remember the exact name, but that's what I went with. Instead of chips or their homemade tots, I grabbed the balsamic roasted brussel sprouts as an appetizer. Tables weren't the cleanest and were a little wobbly, but nothing deal-breaking... we made it work. Food came out pretty quick and looked solid. Flavor-wise... a little mixed. The brussel sprouts were very flaky and leafy, almost crumbled apart. You really had to work your fork to get a bite. I was picturing larger roasted halves. Sauce was fine, nothing bad, nothing special. I'd give those a 3 out of 5. The brisket sandwich was interesting. The meat was very fatty and kind of tough to chew through. Not sure if that's just the cut or the prep. I ate about three-quarters of it. It wasn't bad, just didn't hit the way I hoped. Probably still thinking about that muffaleta. Another 3 out of 5. I'd come back, no doubt... but next time I'm sticking with what they're known for. Those cheesesteaks always look great, and that's probably the move.
