They said there was a 6 month wait, but after 6 years (bad me, I know), I decided to wait it out. I arrived my first visit and had the best dental visit of my life - almost no pain (X-Rays suck when the plastic hits the bones in your mouth, that's inevitable). I made my follow-up appointment for six months right then and there. Ever since then, I've had the pleasure of having Chelsie as my hygienist and will request her if possible, for every visit. She's friendly and interested in her patients' lives while not asking them questions while she has metal tools in their mouths. I've never had a pain issue when she's been working with me. Angela works the front desk and has been beyond helpful with me from making my first appointment, through changing my insurance and ensuring I was covered by the new company. She's friendly and makes calls and texts to confirm things when I had any questions with no hesitation and complete honesty. Six months later I was told by another dentist that I had severe bone degeneration because of a failed cavity procedure (done by her) that was infected so bad that it caused an infection which ate through my jaw bone and now I need oral surgery to scrape all of it out and possibly a bone graft! All of this could have been prevented if she had given me an x-ray that day I went in. She would have saw that the previous cavity filling failed and I had a raging infection. During my visit, imaging was taken and the dentist told me I had "several spots of concern," including multiple cavities, one supposedly close to needing a root canal. This was shocking, as I've only ever had two fillings many years ago and have never had ongoing dental issues. Panicked, I scheduled three separate filling appointments, totaling $1,282, with insurance covering $985.60 and leaving me to pay $296.40. In January, after turning 26 and transitioning to my own insurance for the first time, I was given a new estimate with a base total of $2,321, insurance covering $1,500, and my out-of-pocket cost jumping to $821. When I questioned the drastic increase in the base cost, I was brushed off with vague explanations about "complex insurance fee schedules." Something felt very wrong. I canceled two of the three appointments and sought a second opinion from a completely different dentist without sharing any information about my previous visit. They took new imaging and told me I had only one tooth with small areas of decay, nowhere near requiring a root canal. I had the filling done on February 11th and paid $51 total. I went from being told I had "several serious issues" to having one minor cavity. I am deeply concerned by the misinformation I was given, especially considering the extreme cost discrepancies and the fear-based approach used.
