The pricing isn't by hourly, but by a software they use to find the best rates for the job required. Ultimately, I've voiced my concerns of how that system works and what I think could change but they are sticking with the way the price structure works, as it works for them. I am happy with the solution that was offered to me, and would use this company again, but more so for serious issues that require an expert to come out. When booking the appointment, it was explained to me that it was $85 to have the team come out, and an additional $125 for diagnostic of the situation of my leaky pipe, which could be used towards the maintenance cost. The determination made by the technician is that the pack nuts needed to be screwed tighter, and it took the technician less than 2 minutes to do so. For this labor, I was charged $220, and the charge is not itemized, it is just marked as misc. - and I had no option to just tighten it myself, as it already cost me $125 for the technician to diagnose the issue. Since I was charged $220 for 2-3 minutes of labor, that's about $6600 per hour that they charge. If we did just the $95 on top of the diagnostic, that's $2,850 per hour for their labor. I understand they are a business and I am not saying I expected the work to be free, but for the fact it was an additional $95 for him to tighten the pack nuts in 2-3 minutes is crazy. I asked about why it costs so much / the charge couldn't be a flat $125 since it was a simple solution, the technician told me it was a liability if he didn't charge me for his work, and since he had to screw TWO pack nuts, that's where the extra charge came in. If you go through this company, just expect a labor cost of $47.50 per minute.

Right there on the company iPad, that's handed to you by the guys who just fixed your expensive af water issue. Can't remember if it was 10% 15% 20%...or 15% 20% 25%. What I do remember is how freaking awkward it felt. When I go out to eat, get my hair done, or grab a coffee...I know these things are a part of an industry that relies on tips. When I have service guys over to my house (new homeowner, so it's more common than I'd like) I often cash tip a $20 or more depending on the work and time. But to be asked to tip 20% on $500 or $1000 dollars unexpectedly--do that math. Ugh. The guys were great and their work was solid. It's not on them for a crappy ending to the service call. If Great Lakes would have mentioned their tipping expectation in advance, like when I scheduled or when they sent a confirmation, it would have been a better experience. Two hours…read morelater, the kitchen plumbing was found to be gushing, so I ran downstairs to find the ceiling of my sewing/craft/costume/evening gown/guest room was collapsing with gallons of water pouring out onto a large room of precious objects, ruining walls and brand new carpet. So began a horrible year of having both my kitchen and guest/sewing room being reconstructed. Meanwhile, racks of clothing and shelves of patterns, material, bed, pictures on the wall, and racks of thread were soaked. He blamed a faulty washer, but never showed it to me. I had to cancel my brother and his family visiting for Thanksgiving - after I had bought hundreds of dollars of food - my brother who I had not seen in a long time. A couple of months into restoration, the kitchen plumbing started to leak again, the day before I was to leave for a 2 week vacation. The pipes now make a bloop sound every half hour, or so. He claimed not to hear it, but his employees heard it. He's a slimy liar. When he called a few years later wanting to check and service the system, I put him off because I can't trust him. I live in constant fear that the whole thing is going to explode again. If I hadn't been there and wanted to show the contraption under the kitchen sink, it would've ruined the entire condo instead of a third of it - therefore, going away is fraught with fear of what might be happening in my home. Jon came and fixed the issue professionally. The only peeve was that though he completed the work within 30 minutes, i still got charged for an additional 15 minutes since he was in his vehicle writing up the invoice so had to pay additional $23 for the 15 minutes. The billing rate can add up quickly and expensively but the job got done properly.
