I stumbled upon this place on while looking up rose gardens on Yelp. This isn't a public garden like the one in Berkeley or Oakland but a private home with a big rose garden open to the public on the weekends of April-May and the rest of the year by reservation. I was very wowed by the garden, over 650 varieties of roses as well as all sorts of other flowers and plants. I went the weekend they had a rosewater making demonstration which was interesting. It takes tons of petals for just a small bottle of rose water! They also make and sell rose perfume. This is a nice place to come up for an hour or so, especially if combining it with a winery or Healdsburg day trip. read more

This is a local gem. The grounds are beautiful, and there is a bit of a fairytale path below arches of antique roses. They have a great variety, and are very knowledgeable of antique roses, and even carry some retired Austens. I've been here a handful of times and look forward to coming back. read more

This review is a little late, but after a hefty lunch in town, my parents wanted to find a place to stroll around. My mom looooves roses so this was a perfect spot. They had tons of varieties and a large garden you could walk through and take in the scents and vivid colors of the different roses and flowers. They make their own rose water here too that you can buy and take home. read more

We came over memorial day weekend, for a tour, and some tea. $2. That's right 2 bucks. I put my name down for some roses that they have in their garden when they do cuttings and transplants. it's beautiful, friendly, and run by volunteers. You can learn about how rosewater is made & rose oil (which may or may not excite you) and you can also do what I did, find a sunny beautiful spot to sit and sip tea, and enjoy the fragrance of all the roses. I am thrilled that I finally remembered to make the visit to Russian River Rose during the prime months of April and May. After a wine club spring party at Twomey winery, I decided to stop by for a visit. How fortunate that it was a quiet day at the rose farm, as I know that it can be bombarded with visitors in May. Hubby and I casually walked through the beautiful laid out garden of various plantings, along with climbing roses, gorgeous specimens of blooming Iris, and many other varieties of flowers. The entire setting reminded me of a setting in the South of France, complete with old world charm residence. The owners are now completely off the grid with solar power. We arrived just in time for a short talk about climbing roses and how to select them and I must say I learned a ton more of info based on that 15 minute talk than in any garden book I have ever read! Then we went over to the barn where the owner was distilling rose water. Very interesting and informative. I took lots of photos of the types of roses that I learned about and want to go back and purchase for my own garden. I highly recommend a visit to RR Rose if you are in the area. read more

Absolutely beautiful. I visited in October and had a personalized tour while I picked up my roses. My host (I wish I could remember his name!) was so helpful and genuinely passionate about his job, it was impossible not to feel the same enthusiasm. Jan has been ABSOLUTELY lovely helping me ship rose oils and rose water for Christmas gifts. This is just a magical place, I hope I can visit again just to support their amazing business. read more

This place is fantastic! Wonderful people!! My gardening skills are limited to hiring the mow and blow people to keep the weeds whacked down low enough so at a distance they can be mistaken for a lawn. So, when my friends (both avid gardeners) suggested a rose tour - I was really just looking forward to a day out in the sun. We took the full guided tour, learned about the different types of roses, all of which they have at this place! They taught us how to harvest perfume roses which we did a little of ourselves! Explained the attributes of different roses, some make great vase flowers because of longer stems and bloom life, others are harvested for the scent, and others climb up a trellis and make your garden shed look pretty. Who knew a rose is such a complex plant! After the walk in the roses, they distilled our "harvest" to make rose water and explained how they extract the rose oil after distillation (amazing). They talked about the history of distilling, explained how perfumes are made and marketed. It was truly an education! They have a nursery with plants for sale and of course sell the rose water there as well. I am now the proud owner of a rose called Julia Child - color is called butter - I will plant it in the garden this weekend. I am determined to do my best to nurture it - but please pray for that plant!! They only do this demonstration in April and May - keep informed of their events at their web site - then take a day off of work - head up north and have fun! read more

Went to visit with a group of 11 mostly elderly ladies, and they were not disappointed, situated in a beautiful part of the country with wonderful gardens. Went on the tour and it was worth $10.50 and very interesting. We were late but the Google map did not give the correct directions but we held up the tour and of course someone was limited by time. We said sorry but the gentleman owner was a bit sharp throughout the tour, if he could just remember that we were there for fun and perhaps vacation and not sitting a test at the end of the tour there would have been 5 stars and not 4. Please do not let this put anyone off this is still a place to visit and everyone is allowed an off day. Great facilities, clean bathroom, nice ladies and a great cup of tea when we sat down at the latter part of the tour. I would suggest this to any visitors informative and wonderful surroundings, yes it is worth a visit. read more

The smell when you get out of the car is intoxicating. I cannot say enough about walking through the varietals and smelling and seeing all they have to offer. We were here once for their Mother's Day open house years ago. They had free tea leaf readings, a European singing group, & free tours of the gardens. It was quite nice, actually. All of the roses are pleasantly fragrant aromatically. This is a very positive atmosphere here, as long as it doesn't get too crowded, on holidays, weekends, & special events. read more

So awesome!!! I totally recommend this tour for anyone who loves roses! Two choices: 1) For free, wander about their gardens 2) For $12.95, you can take their Rose Tour, which is a 2-hr intro to making Rose Oil and Water. Reservations required. Wear comfy clothing. We did both and loved it! We arrived for the 10am-Noon Rose Tour to pick roses, distilled them and then learnt about the history of making Rose Oil/Water. During the talk, they served us tea and light snacks. For full disclosure, they do not give you any complementary vials of rose oil/water. I mention this because we all wished we had some. They sell small vials for inexpensive amounts. After the tour, we wandered about the gardens. Gorgeous! If you decide to just wander about the garden, arrive early in the morning - apparently, roses smell best in the cooler morning hours. (There was plenty of smelling at 10am but that may change as the days warm up). read more

In April and May the Russian River Rose Company offers a tour of their rose garden and a demonstration on making Rose Water. The couple that runs this place is absolutely amazing--very friendly, very helpful, and they make the tour a lot of fun. You get to go out into their rose garden and learn how to pick the blossoms, you get to distill your harvest into rose water, and get a great lesson on the history of fragrance, roses, and the creation of perfumes. read more

They might have nice roses, but the customer service is appalling. We were turned away because the owner wanted to close early. It didn't matter that we drove from 30 miles away or that we were there for my wife on Mother's Day or that it was 45 minutes before they were due to close. We'll never be back. read more
