We were looking for some fruit trees to grow in our backyard and a friend recommended Urban Tree Farm Nursery. It's a huge nursery with different sections depending on what you're looking for. We stopped by on a cold and wet day earlier this year and ended up getting a Fuji apple tree, a small fig plant, a nectaplum spice zee tree and an aprium flavor delight tree. There are rows upon rows of different kinds of citrus and fruit trees. We didn't go to the other areas of the nursery because we already planned out ahead of time what we wanted. If you need help loading your goods to your car the staff is available to give you a hand. My husband even emailed them some questions about the condition of the trees after we planted them and they got back to us with lots of helpful information. I recommend checking them out! read more

We've spent thousands here over the last 5 years, but I truly wonder what this business thinks it is. They seem like a wholesale nursery that grudgingly allows retail customers because...why? The wholesale model isn't profitable enough? Although they often have what I want (or can order it), I brace myself every time I go in because MOST of the staff is so unhelpful, so rude, and seems so downright resentful of their own customers that I vow to never come back. Even the simplest question can earn you a snarky, attitude-rich reply. That's if you get a reply. More often than not, employees are too "busy" with...what? More important things? To top it off, last year while looking at plants I tripped over the handle of my plant cart and fell. As my husband helped me up, we both saw the employee behind the check out counter who couldn't stop himself from laughing. Didn't ask if I was OK. Just laughed like a middle schooler. Seriously. I finally looked at Yelp to see if my experience was unique. I see it is not. I just wish this business would take a serious look at it's customer approach and employee training because we would love to keep buying their plants. read more

I went to this nursery today (04/12/2025) to check out their nursery for the first time. Despite the 1 stars reviews that left here, I decided to go and take my chance. Their parking lot is full of customers in and out of their nursery. I absolutely love the way they set up their plants zones (Full Sun, Shades, Part Shades and bigger trees). They have so many varieties of perennials, annual and big trees. I love the facts that they have plants that suit our weather for Sonoma County garden zones and display their plants accordingly from Full Sun areas to Shade areas. Their prices are varieties but very very reasonable and cheaper than Big Box Stores and other nurseries in our area. I am appreciate their affordable and reasonable prices! I personally enjoy shopping and browsing on my own and don't really need extra hands or help since they provide their customers nice size cart to put your plants. There are also plenty of shade for the customers to sit down or stand while you making a decision on your picks. I noticed that their employees will help when you ask for helps, which it is definitely nice in my opinion. I bought some plants from there and will definitely be back again to get more plants! read more

It's sad to see the state of urban tree farm today. It was a great nursery once, where people joyfully helped you and gave information about the plants- now, they bark at you to look at the tag when you ask the name, give maps with incorrect locations of plants and once you've found them- they tell you the plants you've tagged are not for sale. this is especially hard for older customers, who have trouble getting around without help. They are condescending, rude, and take the incredible joy of plant shopping and make it into a soulless expirience. We've spent thousands of dollars here over the years but today will be our last visit and we are sad to see what's happened to a once mighty plant store. RIP urban tree farm read more

The selection of plants has always been the best in the area but sadly the service has deteriorated substantially since I first started shopping here perhaps 30 years ago or more. On a hot day recently, I stopped in to buy some roses. As has been the case on previous visits, the roses are located out by the parking lot and the particular ones I wanted are way out next to Fulton Road, a fair distance for a senior citizen on a nearly 100 degree day. I parked my car near them and walked to the central checkout kiosk where I expected to pay for them. They've always been very accommodating in the past - part of the reason I keep going back - but not this time. The woman at the cash register, a blond woman with lots of tattoos, told me she couldn't ring me up without knowing what color roses I intended to get. I told her, 3 red and 3 yellow. Nope, that wouldn't do. I had to physically bring the roses to her. I pointed out the roses were quite a distance away, my car was already out there and in previous visits they'd been able to ring me up without having the roses physically on the counter. She just shrugged her shoulders and repeated that she couldn't ring me up unless I brought the roses to her. It was a really hot day so I asked if there was someone who could help me. She huffed a bit because I guess I was annoying her at this point, but nevertheless she picked up her walkie talkie and called someone before rather dismissively telling me, "he'll meet you out there." As I walked out across the parking lot, the guy in a motorized cart flew past me without offering to give me a ride. He drove out to the roses, got out of his cart and stood there looking at me as I continued my trek. I finally got there, we picked out the roses, loaded them on his cart and, I kid you not, he drove off back toward the checkout area leaving this old man standing out there in the hot sun. I was tempted to just get in my car and leave, but I'd come this far so I stuck it out and hiked back across the lot and back to the central kiosk. The guy had unloaded the roses next to the kiosk and was gone by the time I got there. The same blond woman with the tattoos was still at the register and her attitude was still pretty sour. It wasn't that she was overtly rude, she wasn't. She was just indifferent. She was clearly bored with her job and couldn't care less about the customers she had to deal with or the inconvenience she caused them. I paid for the roses, found a hand cart and loaded the roses myself on to the cart and schlepped them back out to my car. In my younger days, I wouldn't have thought twice about this. But on this day I was feeling my age and a little help from the younger folks working there would have been appreciated. read more

Staff members know a lot about the plants or trees you like, and can give good advice on caring for them. Great place for sure. This place is amazing. I was so impressed with the prices and selection. There are so many options, i recommend you plan two trips. One to take in all the possibilities and a second to make your final purchase. It will take longer than you expect. I can understand the comments about service, but I think people need to set their expectations properly. I love this place! Selection is amazing! I found the tree and all of the bushes and flowers I wanted at prices much lower than in East Bay where I normally shop for plants. The service was also excellent, but the map was baffling to use, as there was no key printed on it to match the numbers and letters. Very odd! I really love this place. After buying a home and settling into a somewhat rural part of the county, we started making our place our own with trees, fruits, veggies, and lots of personalized landscaping. We were referred here by multiple people, and once we made our first trip up, we knew we would be back soon. The selection here is amazing. We fell in love with a gorgeous Chandler walnut tree, and thought about it for some time and then returned and brought it home with us. It's doing great and is full of gorgeous walnuts. The people here are friendly and have a ton of suggestions and help for newbies and experienced folks alike. Prices seem about average to other tree and plant shops around, but quality definitely seems high and everything we have brought home from here has thrived. We will definitely be returning here for our larger plant needs and anything we can't find at our local nursery. read more

Far & away the best plant nursery in Sonoma county. 20 acres full of everything that will grow in Northern California. Check out the 50 year old olive trees in the giant containers. Been a repeat customer annually for the past 15 years. Here today to choose new lavender bushes. Lavender only lasts 7 years tops before it gets too woody and stops making bountiful flowers. 7 years ago bought 8 lavenders here, those plants have performed magnificently. Bloomed 3 times per year. In past have also purchased trees, roses, ornamental bushes, etc. Always happy. Expert help. All staff have deep horticultural knowledge. If you want a tour an employee will drive you around the property in an electric wagon. Best of class. 5 stars! read more

It is unfortunate that this nursery which is spread over 20 acres no longer offers a cart ride to see trees that are far flung. Wear your hiking boots, bring a canteen, sunhat. If walking on uneven, muddy ground for long distances is difficult, don't shop here. Oh, and the parking lot! Yes, we have had a lot of rain but it's been a mess of potholes for a long time. I went to the farm today for a Redwood tree and possibly an Elm. Chelsea located the inventory for me then drove me over to trees from one of their fleet of golf carts. She helped me select the redwood first, showing me two different kinds. They actually grow 5 feet per year! Perfect for its purpose in our yard. Then we looked at two types of elms, perfect for shade trees, and can reach 40 feet height in maturity! We decided on a sweet Japanese maple with red leaves to accent our sweet little stone wall patio. Both have been planted and are taking off quickly with all the rains and sunny days like today. read more

My wife and I. Have used urban tree farm for decades. Literally. spending thousands of dollars with them. Today we went up. to urban tree farm. Wanting to see 24 inch box Pacific. wax Myrtle. and Evergreen giant Avarete.. We asked to be taken around and shown these two. trees. and the attended at the front office said they couldn't do that. They would take us over and drop us off and leave us to our own devices without any council information or advice. My wife has mobility issues and in the past, urban tree farm has always shuttled us around their large sight to view what we wanted to view. They just lost a multi $1000 sale as we went over to Moon nurseries who were happy to put us in their cart and drive us around.. read more

Holy moly, why do I keep subjecting myself to this weird entitled behavior of employees. I'm under the impression that they must have to pass a test on how best to belittle customers. I'm pretty well versed on what plants I want but they abhor questions of any kind and always make you feel as if you are bothering them. One gal sitting alone at one window said to me without making eye contact "I'm waiting on a customer". Huh??? Thought I was one? Another gentleman on the phone said "I suggest you come and look for yourself " when asked if the tree I was looking for was single or multi trunk. I do love their selection and pricing but time after time shake my head at how rude all of the employees are and I'm pretty sure they get satisfaction out of watching people bumble around acres and acre's looking for items based on their confusing map. We bought a Weeping Eastern Redbud and a Pink Lady Apple tree and had to put them on will call because they didn't both fit in my SUV. When I came back with my truck later the same day the staff had switched the RedBud with a different one that I hadn't picked. Then refunded me for the Apple tree with a crazy reason that they can't sell fruit trees until June and it's April. Then why did they sell them to me?? I had already paid. Why did they switch out the Redbud I had picked, the staff exchanged it for one that was all stick totally bare. What an bizarre experience I won't be back. Way over priced and most of the pants and tree are not for-sale with no indication. What a waste of time! read more

20 acres of plants. This place is HUGE! Today I was on a succulent mission. Unfortunately, these guys don't have much for succulents. Seems to be more of a tree place. Hence the name Urban "Tree" farm. It took a while to get some help...... 20 minutes to be exact. I felt lost. The same feeling you get when you walk into a library. Your overwhelmed and don't know where anything is. I was looking for plants that are non toxic that won't kill my dogs. When I asked if there was a pet friendly section? I got a stare with a chuckle. Like I was crazy? Lol I guess that's not how it works in nurseries. I found a great place in Fort Bragg called Simply Succulents. I will be taking the 90 mile drive to get my plants up there. Lone Pine in Sebastopol also looks like they have a great variety of succulents as well. All in all....... this is a great place with great prices. They unfortunately just didn't have what I was looking for. read more

Buying from UTF is like rolling dice--I've had a mixed results. I tagged a Japanese Mable for purchase but their staffer delivered a different tree, with smoke damage, to my car. The manage/supervisor essentially said "take it of leave," and then brushed me off. From reading the other Yelp posts, my bad experience was not a 'one-off' occurrence. UTF prices are good compare to boutique sellers, but they're not as good at standing behind their product. read more

It's a huge tree/plant farm... really lovely to walk around. So many plants and trees... at various growth stages, all looking very healthy. You should do your research though, and know what you're after bc help is hard to come by. I saw a few staff on the grounds, but they were in golf carts already helping others. We ended up getting in the sales line just to ask a question about inventory. The gravel parking lot fills fast, but seems to rotate out enough so its not a problem.
