If I could give negative stars I would. My 78 year old Dad consigned a 51 Mercury with these guys. He informed them he was battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer and that if the car didn't sell for some reason that he would need to get it out early to go back home to California for chemo on Monday. Our consignment guy at RS was Jay, he led my Dad to believe it wouldn't be a problem based on the circumstances. Otherwise he would have declined to go any further. So we left California on Monday morning with family to support Dad, registered the car met Jay and shook hands, then spent the next days enjoying Scottsdale and all the auctions and car shows until sale day Friday. Car ran F569 was the run number, no sale like 50% of the last hour and a half of cars there, then we sone lady name Linda asked how much less he would take? Dad said that was it, that was my lowest number. She got an attitude, then we asked how do we go about getting the car out? She 'ain't gonna happen sweetie' we said we already had been told by Jay we could work something out at least by morning. I then told her Dads situation......she said 'ain't gonna happen til Monday' too bad. These people are wanna be professional's. You can't even get close to the live action if you pay to get in, sell thru rates are terrible ( I was there) , they charge more for everything including water, restrooms sucked. We went to Gooding and sat 20 rows from the action watching 4.5MM cars be sold eating catered food for $30 entry. They are pros. Barrett Jackson as huge as it is was way better in service and pricing and you could walk right into where the action was just as you see it on TV. Russo and Steele is a copy cat phony act in my opinion. So my folks left to go back, my wife and I are stuck here waiting for these folks at RS to allow us to get Dads car and go back home. Dad will worry about it the whole time. They made a bad experience out of something he wanted to enjoy with his family. I've emailed and called, they don't care. My mom called in tears they didn't care. So whether your a car collector with tons of doe, or just a car enthusiast you should know this company will run from what's right. They have proven that for the last couple days. P.S. the Jay guy sent me an email stating he quit over this, they embarrassed him in front of his crew for trying to help us the email states. Terrible.......Karma is just like Linda at RS. ********UPDATE*******UPDATE********** 1/22/2017 After picking up the car first thing in the morning, I decided to look up who owns RS and found a name, Drew was his name so I took a chance and forwarded some email dialog I had with other employees at RS on this matter to an email starting with that name. Within a few hours I got a call from Drew. He informed me that in fact he was the owner and was well aware of the situation and that he had called my mother and given her more than a few options, like storing the car. Towing the car after the sale to a local lot that is safe and secure, and that he would also help us arrange shipping to us later. He then explained that my mother wasn't interested in that help. He says the only thing I couldn't do is what you want us to do, and that's take your car out early. Your Dad signed a form and we post every that cars can't be taken out early ever! So when I explained to him that Jay the consignment specialist that works for RS (him) stated it wouldn't be a problem A) because the car will sell, B) because I'll come thru for ya! We thought that actually meant something. Because we made VERY clear that we CAN NOT stay past Saturday! So then he explained the policy and the why, and the if, and of course the 'You guys didn't even care to take the help I offered'. Storing the car meant coming back in over a month after Dads chemo was done and if he had the energy. Again there is that pesky statement from Jay ' I will come thru for ya'! Helping us arrange transport at a later date? $$ we are here now with the same trailer and rigging we brought it with? Those options didn't change the fact dad had to be back and Jay said this would get done. Yes my Dad signed a form stating when the cars are to picked up, Yes Jay with a wink wink and I gotcha bud in good faith told us we would be ok to plan our trip based on leaving Saturday morning if it sold or not. You folks reading this decide. Build your business on solid policy that you are prepared to lose business over. OR make an exception from those strict policy's to do the right thing. I own a couple business and we don't always do things right or perfect. But when i have an issue I make it right regardless. The reason I changed from a 1 to a 2 star is because of the not 1 but 2 calls I got from Drew the owner of Russo and Steele today as I drove home and unloaded the car at Dads house. Part I: By now all the hoopla surrounding the 2013 Scottsdale Classic Car Auctions is starting to die down and while everyone has heard about the fantastic price Barrett-Jackson achieved for the Batmobile and both RM and Goodings got great numbers for classic Ferraris. But not every auction participant has a happy story to tell. I for one have a tale of woe, perhaps a cautionary tale for others considering the consignment of their car to one of the highly hyped auction companies. In my case, for purposes of this story I shall refer to the company I dealt with by the fictional name Rustle & Steal and my experience is not a good one, surprising since I've dealt with this company in the past, at both their Monterey and Scottsdale auctions so I had hoped they would at least try to get a good result for my consignment. But as it turned out, they not only didn't care, they outright lied to me to get my consignment and then seemed to do their worst to ensure that my car wouldn't sell, at least to a figure anywhere near to what they had earlier agreed was a reasonable reserve. I've been around auctions long enough to realize that appropriate placement in the run order is the only way to get a good sale. A very early placement in the sale or too late is the kiss of death, these time slots are used for the P.O.S. consignments, mere auction fodder, low priced and low quality cars that appeal to bottom feeders . . . and I discussed this at length with the Rustle & Steal representative when consigning my car. I was very specific - I had a car that is perhaps the finest example of it's type in the world (the Rustle & Steal rep even suggested the possibility of setting a new world record price for the model). Again the rep. assured me of a good run time. I should have gotten it in writing, but I thought that with my past relationship with them, there would be an element of trust. There isn't. Imagine the stereotypical image of the slimiest most disreputable used car dealer in town, they type of guy who would screw his own grandmother or Sunday school teacher for a sale, this auction company has proven to be just as bad, just as dishonest. Prepare yourself accordingly. I had failed to do so, I assumed I could believe them. I relied on their word and I got lied to and caught them trying to steal my car. Those bastards had scheduled my car to run as the third car of the auction - in the P.O.S. lineup! There was a beat-up Corvette immediately before my car and a cheesy 50 year old Curved Dash Oldsmobile replica powered by a Briggs & Stratton lawn mower engine following mine! It was by anyone's understanding the P.O.S. line-up! From the moment I saw the run order I knew my car wasn't going to sell . . . and I'm convinced Rustle & Steal knew it and planned for it! If you've never consigned a car to auction before - here's a tip. Always go with a reserve! Not only does this guarantee you won't have to give your car away for perhaps next to nothing, it should also assure that the auction company will make a good faith effort to sell it in order to earn their commissions! See, it's easy and natural for an auction company to assign the no reserve P.O.S. cars to the times of day that they know that there won't be serious bidders in the audience. They will at least get a minimum commission. Such is the fate for the P.O.S. cars - either early in the day or late at night. The run order lets you know what the auction company thinks of your car and how the bidders will see it too. They can actually control perceptions and values to a degree this way. You have to hope they are on your side, but they aren't always. They weren't on my side that day. to be continued! read more

As a classic car professional, I attend many classic cars auctions to buy and sell cars. R&S started about 15 years ago in Scottsdale. These days they have 3 or 4 auctions per year. Overall, the auctions run smoothly. The problems start after the auctions. Communication with buyer and sellers is non-existent. Customer service stops the second the car is sold on the auction block. If anyone from R&S is reading this: post-sales communication and customer service make the difference between a repeat and a one-time client. Please put some effort in making sure that buyers and sellers have a positive experience after the sale. This would include standard emails or text messages to inform buyers and sellers when paperwork is complete, funds are received, cars are ready to be shipped, cars are picked up by carrier, titles are shipped (with tracking number), etc. Easy stuff with the right software and it makes all the difference in the world to customers. read more

This was my first experience at a live car auction, and the atmosphere at Russo and Steele was electric. Well organized and everything under the sun to look at, cars, memorabilia, clothes etc. I had the opportunity to work at this event and was lucky enough to be right in the middle of all the action. Checking credentials and meeting people was just one of the many exciting things around me. I was able to see all the cars as drove into the auction circle and watch the auctioneers do their thing, sell those beautiful cars, sport cars, muscle cars, hot rods and more! I had the pleasure of working with an amazing manager, Maria Keller. She showed a sincere interest in all her employees. Maria, was surprisingly attentive to my questions and my needs for as busy as she was. Always on the go! Maria is a real asset to this organization. Finally found the 1967 Camaro I'd been looking for for about 5 years. The owner had just shipped it to the Scottsdale auction so I signed up as a phone bidder and bought the car at 11:30 pm on a Friday night. Great experience with Russo and Steele!
