Seating can be a challenge because it's an intimate setting with first come, first serve arrangements. The staff is clearly well-versed in getting ticket holders settled in and scoping out extra seats for standby seating. I consider this a small, quaint community theater with an array of unique players/cast members. I went to see Into the Woods and cackled all night at the high energy performance. The acoustics are phenomenal because Red Riding Hoods screams rang in my ears long after she stopped yelling. There are also outdoor shows and I am eager to return to see one of those outside performances.

Unfortunately, they sell them through TicketMaster and after all the fees, you end up paying $36 and change for the ticket. You can buy them at local shops around CT, but I live in Boston. One of the best things about the event is that it's held at Mohegan Sun. Why, you ask? Well, if you need a break from the convention or it's just too crowded you can get a bracelet and step out into the casino and there's plenty to see, eat, or even gamble! I saw soooo many people just sitting on the floor eating food they got at the little concession stand outside the entrance when there are literally 10 other food options if you step out from the convention and walk 5 minutes. I really liked that there were an abundance of comic book vendors. I've been to other conventions (Boston comes to mind) where they are few and far between. Lots of digging to be done and lots of $1 bins to go through. Photo ops and autographs aren't really my thing, but if they are the lineup of celebrity guests was a little...eh. I'm a little surprised to see how many people were waiting for...wait for it...Val Kilmer...in 2019. The other big name was Billy Dee Williams. Eh. Again, photo ops and autographs aren't my thing. The calendar is packed full with events. Show on 2nd floor, restrooms and concessions on first floor. There is a small balcony area. We came for a meet and greet with Stewart Copeland along with his show. The meet and greet began at 5:30pm and the we had to leave the theater until it opened at 6:30pm which was quite incoveneint and wish we had known ahead of time. The Kate staff was very friendly. There is free parkiing but can be tough to find a spot.

Fire in the…read more sky With the crummy economy and parsimonious town officials forced to do more with less, events like town fireworks and other community celebrations are becoming a increasing uncommon anachronistic phenomenon. Fortunately the town of South Kingstown still ignores the increasing dismal financial reports and puts on a great 4th of July celebration. The event held at Old Mountain Field included food, music, dancing and of course some impressive fireworks. Not just un flousse petit, but some huge and thunderous explosions accompanied by mesmorizing visual pyrotechnics. Quite impressive for a relatively small town. Beside things going boom in the night, the event also had a band, people dancing and of course lots of food. Many people brought there own treats and folks seemed to enjoy passing around homemade delicacies to their neighbors. Even though it was crowded and noisy everyone seemed extremely jovial and convivial and I didn't observe any obnoxious drunks or mental defectives attempting to cause trouble. Even the numerous stinky dogs seemed to enjoy themselves and added to the festivities. One interesting item was the osprey nest located right on a light pole in the middle of the field. The adult didn't seemed especially bothered by the noise and at one point even brought a huge fish back to the nest for her young to rip apart and devour. Quite entertaining to watch in a morbid sort of way. With so many towns and cities forced to cut back everything they can to mollify bean counters, it's nice to see some places still care more about the people of a community rather than some arcane numerical bottom line. This was a great celebration by some great people in a great town and a great time was had by all.

I was skeptical but as I had a couple of hours to kill before an event at the United Theater I had nothing to lose by stopping in. I was shocked, shocked I tell you, to discover what a find this gallery was. I love art, museums, and galleries, and this was well worth my time. There are several rooms of art ranging from jewelry to glassware, pottery, prints, paintings and more. I had no intention of buying anything and I was tempted by the paintings, most of which were in my price range, but succumbed to a gorgeous bracelet, a charming bowl, and a set of wine glasses (all shown below). The person at the front desk greeted me but then let me roam to my heart's content. When I checked out she explained that the gallery rotated its items on a monthly basis (I think that's what she said). I spent an hour there appreciating every one of the items on display; the prices varied so you are sure to find something there at your price point. There was also a special small exhibit featuring African American artists, which I very much appreciated as an African-American myself. This gallery is a hidden gem. One more reason for me to return to the town of Westerly soon, and I am sure not to leave empty-handed!

According to the posting on the front door, they are open on Wednesdays. Today, we checked the website and and verified the hours they were open as well as Google indicated they were open. We drove all the way to Westerly only to find the place closed up tight. No where did it say they were going to be closed today. We are very disappointed in the lack of communications as to their actual hours. The only avenue we did not exercise was to make a telephone call to verify they would be open. Lesson learned on our part. If they cannot adequately advertise the hours they will be open, they should at least tell people who visit their website, to CALL FIRST; before showing up to closed doors. We gave this place every opportunity but we will not bother going back. If their communication skills are any indication of how the place is managed, I do not think it is worth our while to visit. I am thinking they are closed because there is nothing on Exhibit. The walls were vacant. If there is nothing on Exhibit and you take the time to announce the next Exhibit on your website, you might want to inform potential visitors that the Gallery is CLOSED between Exhibits. Most reputable art galleries have rotating exhibits. This allows the Gallery to be open daily and a variety of artists to display on a rotating basis. We are very disappointed but thanks for an important lesson. Trust no one without a call first.
