Busy, poorly staffed! Had to go looking for someone to get my name on the waiting list. When I checked to see how my name had progressed in line I found that they hadn't even written it down! Finally got a table 20 minutes later. When our food still hadn't arrived 45 minutes after ordering,( waitress said it should be out in just a couple of minutes) and noticing that several tables that had been seated 20-30 minutes after we had were served,we decided to leave. 2 hours = no food! Divine... The Bloody Mary was unique, smoky, and perfect. I had walleye cakes. Obviously handmade. I took a piece of pie home, caramel apple pecan. Oh, my... I was speechless and I am craving it days later. Our waitress was absoultely wonderful, polite, and friendly. read more

This review is based only on the pie. It was AMAZING. We ordered three different kinds (cherry, some sort of caramel apple thing, and some sort of other special multi-fruit pie) and they were all incredible. Seriously, the multi-fruit pie we ordered had to weigh at LEAST 5-6 pounds. It was FULL. The crust was awesome. I would totally stop by here again for pie. read more

We came here for breakfast while staying at the Grand Superior Lodge. The food was wonderful and the service was fantastic. They have these great skillet and hashbrown breakfasts that are just a ton of food for $9. The coffee leaves something to be desired but all in all a great meal. They also have a full bar for those want to partake in breakfast in a glass. I didn't have any pie but I hear this is the spot to get it. read more

Stopped for a later dinner on the way back to our hotel. Probably the best pie I've ever had. I had coconut cream pie and the north shore berry, which were both fantastic. My boyfriend had the peanut butter pie which was awesome. He also had the wild rice meatloaf which was fantastic and the slightly sweet bread that came along with it was nice (clearly homemade, though not sure if made in house). I had the turkey sandwich on cranberry wild rice bread which was tasty. My soup side was chili which tasted good, but was luke warm when delivered. Meal was a little slow coming out but otherwise the service was great. Good food and great pie. read more

My husband and I recently spent a couple of days on the North Shore to celebrate our wedding anniversary. When deciding where to eat our anniversary dinner, I looked at the online menus of a few restaurants in the area. The Rustic Inn Cafe was closest to where we were staying and they had a New York strip steak on the menu. Perfect. Except it wasn't. When we got there and looked at the menu there was no steak of any kind to be found. When I asked our server about it she stammered a little and told us that the online menu didn't always match the cafe menu. Seriously?!?!?!? What is the point of posting your menus online if they don't reflect your offerings? It wasn't that they ran out, or didn't get a delivery, or noted it as a seasonal item--any of those *might* have been understandable. But it just simply wasn't on the menu, although it's still shown on the online menu today. Now, the meals that we did order were quite good, the pie was good, and our server was very pleasant, but it's a pretty big disappointment when you walk in expecting steak and end up with meatloaf and a veggie sandwich for a special occasion. It left a bad taste in my mouth and I expect that next time we are in the area we will eat elsewhere and get our pie from Betty. read more

Best sandwich I've had in the turkey with the cranberry bread. The sweet potato fries are a must. Oh and the pies are amazing.. much better then Betty's Pies by far.. without the hype. Yes, the service is on the slower side, and the bathrooms are to be desired, but I didn't care... not why I go to a restaurant. Expect to wait because they don't have a lot of tables if you're going during a "normal" time. read more

We've been coming up to the North Shore of Lake Superior for over 30 years & we wouldn't miss stopping at the Rustic Inn! We love their breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Everything is house made and super tasty. I mean, I think my ham & cheese omelette was the BEST I've ever had! Seriously, so flavorful; and every one of our breakfast dishes were fantastic. And, forget about Betty's Pies-believe me, the Rustic's are exceedingly more delicious I promise!! The servers are always friendly & checking in on how things are going; we so appreciate good, personal service. My daughters & I always look forward to the new & fun apparel & unique items Beth stocks in the gift shop too. Only quality merchandise at very good prices here. (Example, the same "looking" not the same quality, Sherpa type sweatshirt/jacket at Tettegouche Park was $61 & had the park logo on it, the better quality jacket at the Rustic was $51 & had Lake Superior w/a Moose on it!) For what it is, it's okay. The website explicitly states it offers vegan and other special options. This is not true. The menu online is inaccurate and while the staff were helpful in finding our five vegetarians a satisfactory option there was not a solution for gluten free or vegan folks. When I spoke to Casey, he explained they had a fire and are in the process of trying to change their website. He then dismissively walked away before I had finished speaking. It's northern Minnesota so I'm used to this type of behavior at this point but it's also 2019. Why would you NOT try to serve all potential customers? I definitely thought a place in a tourist town trying to rebuild would be a little more accommodating. read more

This review is about the pie only. My husband and I stopped in for a slice and pie and we were both delighted with our pies. My husband got an amazing peanut butter and chocolate pie and we both loved it. I decided to try a berry pie since that is my litmus test for any pie place - I much prefer cream pies, but if a pie place can make a berry pie that has me wanting to come back for more, I know it's good! I had some sort of mixed berry crumble and it was amazing. I decided to get it with ice cream and I asked the waitress if it came warmed. She smiled and said, "It does now!" So worth the stop! (We also tried Betty's Pies during our many trips up the shore. Skip it. The pies we had there were obviously not homemade and were pretty bad.) read more

Excellent place to stop for lunch or dinner along 61. We enjoyed the BBQ beef sandwich and the Po boy with walleye. To top of a great lunch they had a good beer selection. My husband enjoyed the IPA by Castle Danger Brewery. We didn't get pie but we were definitely tempted. read more

No amount of user sourced food reviews can do it this gem justice. Right now you should say "Alexa, cancel my plans." "Which plans should I cancel?" "All of them." Then put your kids in a safe location probably with a looping Disney movie or something as it'll take a while. Then go directly to the Rustic Inn. Proceed to Eat Pray Love your way around the cafe. Instead of roaming the totality of the globe;you nary need to step beyond the humble cottage that contains the dining adventure you're headed for. You'll find love and friendship in the kind courteous waitstaff. You'll pray that you wore your fat pants (possible 3rd step after barricading your kids). Not because of greasy over sized portions but because all of the selections worth eating must be sampled. The pie list itself is enough to cancel the next month of your life, because believe Yelp user L G, nothing you will be doing is more worth your time, calories, or attention. When done there are other jobs you can apply for, the spouse will forgive you if you bring them pie, and CPS will return your kids eventually. read more

After a day of hiking our family stopped for a treat but stayed for a meal instead. The food was delicious and the prices are fair...and WOW for the selection of pie! We were there July 25th, 2018 for lunch. We were told the wait was 40 mins but waited over an hour. When we were seated it took forever for the waitress to take our order. Then we waited over 30 mins for our food while we saw several other tables who were seated after us get their food before we did. Moreover there were two flys around our table the whole time. Really good pie and food. We started with a slice of the Strawberry Rhubarb and Peanut Butter Pie. Both where fantastic. The Rhubarb was the best I have had in decades! This is a cafe a few minutes north of Two Harbors on the Scenic Hiway. The atmosphere is very cozy and comfortable with a Lodge Rustic exterior and interior. Anything Cranberry here is awsome! The french toast, recently I had a fantastic cheesy dish open faces turkey sandwich was to die for no holding back on the real chees toasted under a oven in a skillet plate. Went there for lunch. Ordered onion rings, burger, turkey cranberry sandwich and the roast beef and cheese melt. Onion rings were huge with the right amount of batter and crunch-excellent. The roast beef and onion cheese melt was slow cooked roast beef and excellent. The turkey sandwich with the cranberry bread and cheese is a must have. We were so full we had to take the pie with us. We stopped here for lunch on our way from Gooseberry Falls. Excellent food! Smoked salmon sandwich was the best I'd ever had. House-made kettle chips top any fries in flavor and crispiness. It's not cheap but you pay for quality and made-from-scratch approach. My kids loved the noodles with Parmesan (not the typical mac'n'cheese from a box).
