Our stay at RRC exceeded all expectations. Our cabin was clean and comfortable, and even included a private hot tub and fenced in area for our dog! If you are wanting to stay for Estes or Rocky Mountain National Park, this is the perfect spot! It is close to everything you need, but just far away enough to feel private. The cabin included wifi (only fast enough to make calls and send messages), satellite tv and a fully functioning galley type kitchen. The owners were AMAZINGLY hospitable and were quick to help with any questions or recommendations in the area. We stayed in Cabin 5 and were very comfortable. The cabin is clean, the kitchen is well stocked, the linens are good quality and the beds are comfortable. The hot tub was clean and hot! I've stayed in cabins with private hot tubs that were not hot at all because the owners were too cheap to turn the heat up. Not the case here. The hot tub was perfect! The grounds are well kept and the stairs leading to the river were NOT steep, the steps were even and easy to maneuver and the deck at the bottom of the stairs provides a nice place to sit and visit. The wild flowers growing around the property are beautiful. The owners were so friendly, welcoming and personable. The only draw backs re the location right next to the highway because it is noisy, especially for those cabins right next to the road, and parking is a bit tight. But overall, We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back for another long weekend. read more

We tried to find a picture of the stairs leading to the river. I talked to the owner multiple times about access because I am partially disabled, and was assured it would be no problem. We arrived to find the river down steep, uneven steps with broken railing. At the bottom was about 3 feet of riverfront. Since we were there for the river and I could not access it, we decided not to stay. The owner rudely told us we were "taking food off his table." If a trip to the mountains is what you are looking for, Rustic River Cabins will not disappoint. From breathtaking scenery to the idyllic accommodations, this place will reinvigorate you body and soul. The owners, James and Jeanine Pruitt were consummate hosts and their attention to detail, from the cabin (how to work the heaters in the room for us flatlanders) and the hot tubs being hot, clean, and ready to go. Tubs for both the individual cabins, and a communal tub overlooking the river. On the river, it is across from the cabin brimming with trout you can watch swim against the current. The serenity I experienced sitting there listening to the sound of water rushing by watching the trout swim, beckons us back again next year. Not a cliche of a John Denver song, but the inspiration. Estes park the town had everything we could had hoped for, from fine dining ( try the bacon wrapped figs at The Rock Inn) to shops running the gamut from cheap souvenirs to high end antiques. Ice Cream shops and home made candy stores are numerous. Elk are everywhere in town and are as much a fixture of town as any of the locals. The Stanley Hotel beautiful, snow capped mountains, and a Safeway make everything perfect. If you go, you must go up to RMNP to Bear Lake, words cannot explain the beauty we witnessed, it really made us feel small. Very cute and RUSTIC - just like the name implies. They are clean and the cabin we stayed in even had it's own little hot tub. The community hot tub is right on the Big Thompson - almost hangs over it. Very serene and relaxing. My son caught a 11" cut-throat (although I have no idea of the significance). He almost had three more bigger ones and caught a little "Brookie" he threw back. So there are definitely fish right there! The two guys that maintain the place are very cool and we really enjoyed it. The price is reasonable for what you get and having a little kitchenette helped so that we didn't need to eat out all the time. read more

Just spent this past weekend at RRC. Honestly, I didn't want to leave. My boyfriend and I stayed in #8 to celebrate his birthday and my graduation, and had an absolute blast! Hot tub...cozy fire...really comfortable bed...(dog friendly). To boot, the owners are very accommodating and lovely to talk to. So it's been over a month since our return from Rustic River Cabins, and I have to say that I'm still just as eager to return! I still cannot get over how perfect everything was. We wanted relaxation and found that in cabin 4. The private hot tub, with the Ridge in the background was perfect. Quiet and quaint, I cannot wait to get back to the cabins. There's nothing I would change about the place. James and Jeanine knew we were there for my girlfriend's birthday and took the time to write her a card, and had it waiting, along with some chocolates for her. How awesome is that!?! My boyfriend and I stayed there this past weekend and it was absolutely amazing! The views were beautiful and the private hot tub was amazing! We stayed in the milky way cabin and the view of the sky at night from the hot tub was an unforgettable site. I took my girlfriend here in January for her belated Christmas present. We loved our stay, the owners were very friendly and helpful. Ten minutes after we got into the place, the owner knocked on our door with a box full of kindling and newspaper to give us, having seen logs in the back of my truck. Very considerate, a nice touch. We stayed in the cabin with a personal hot tub, which was a little extra I believe but the price for what you get is great, very affordable. The tub was a little on the hot side, so remember to stick in your toe and adjust before jumping in, but I'd much prefer a hot one than a lukewarm tub. The cabin itself was pleasant, had a rustic feel and was very clean and comfortable. You definitely aren't "roughing it" at RRC. The kitchenette was great, and was even stocked with popcorn and spices et cetera for cooking. I would suggest anyone stay at RRC, and we may return again next winter if I can't convince the lady we should go snow-cave camping instead. read more

We stayed in the cabin with the private hot tub which was nice. Also the grill on the deck was usable and was nice not to have to drive into town to eat. The place is pretty compact. It is along the river, but up high so you are not really sitting right next to the water. The owners/caretakers were very nice (helped you if you needed something, but otherwise left you be). My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights for his birthday and absolutely loved it. It was perfect. They take care of all the details... private hot tub, fenced in yard, near the river, comfy bed, candles, even citronella candles. We brought our dog and they even left a little doggie basket with extra towels, sheets, and dog bags for her. We thought everything was perfect, but to top it off, we chatted with one of the owners as we were dropping off our key and he was extremely nice! Weekend getaway - SEPT14 The wife and I wanted a little getaway. We wanted to get into the mountains of the National parks and see the views. We stayed in one of the cabins with a private hot tub. This was one of the major reasons we picked rustic river cabins. Our cabin overlooked the river, and while relaxing in the hot tub the sounds of the bubbling river and the beautiful star filled night were perfect. the bed has a hug memory foam mattress and is comfortable. These are real cabins built many years ago, so get ready for some creaking floors and maybe even a little tilt in the floor. The fireplace is nice, but read the instructions on how to properly start the fire. I am a guy, and of course did not!!! Breakfast overlooking the river each morning was serine. Nights of beautiful stars was awesome. The traffic flying by is a little bothersome but not enough to ruin our getaway. The TV worked enough when I wanted it to, again if I had asked I could have gotten those other channels that were being difficult. The owners have put in very nice home touches in the cabins. they are there to chat or help you get the hot tub working, fire going or work the sat TV the right way. But The wife and I were not there to watch TV, we wanted to see ESTES Park and the mountains. We attempted to fish in the river, but we had no luck. We enjoyed the fun of it. We found a few spots a little down the road to fish for next time. The property is 16 acres. We walked part of the trails to see some wonderful views. We had a great experience: The cabins are modest, as the name suggests, but have everything you need for a nice little getaway. Their large, mult-acre forested property abuts Roosevelt National Forest and has STUNNING views at its top, making for top-notch hiking right outside your door! A nice fishing creek too. We return here every summer and LOVE this place. The owners are incredibly friendly and accommodating, and it's clean and quiet. They have a hot tub on a deck overlooking the river, and a great little fire pit down the way for roasting marshmallows with the kids. Based on other reviews, we recently spent 3 nights at this place. While the owners were very nice and helpful, we did not enjoy our stay. The cabin is truly rustic which was not a problem as it was clean and well appointed. Our problem was the tiny, tiny bathroom. The toilet was way too close to the pedestal sink and you could not comfortable sit on the toilet as a result. The shower was also tiny and a person can barely turn around in there. For whatever reason, the shower control was also a bit hard to regulate. Besides the tiny bath, there were no chairs in the place at all. We had some friends stop by and had to bring the chairs from the deck inside so they had a place to sit. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans, etc. and while we did no cooking, there was everything there to do so. Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to try the hot tub on the deck but it did look inviting and is a good feature. Our cabin was right next to the highway and traffic literally flies up and down that road. Parking was a bit tight for our cabin as well with our actual parking spot being right beside the highway. Overall, the place did not work for us and at an average of $171.67 per night by the time taxes, etc. are added, it was way overpriced for what it is. I cannot speak for the other cabins just the one in which we stayed. read more
