The Good: This Inn looks like a chalet on the outside and has Craftsman architecture accents inside and out. The shower works well and there is plenty of counter space by the sink. There is a continental breakfast. The receptionist when we checked in was very personable and made a good recommendation for dinner. The Disapointing: I found out a bear had been in the yard the night before by overhearing a conversation. As I inquired she suggested we move any food into the room. If I hadn't overheard the conversation we would have left the food in the car. The mattress is extremely uncomfortable. Their supposedly "simple" to use thermostat is not simple. I was furious when the receptionist inferred I was simple for not figuring it out. Cold air comes in through the fireplace which must play havoc with the simple thermostat. The stone chosen for the sink appears to be wet all the time and the shower pressure is poor. The lite continental breakfast was all prepackaged food, not even any fruit. No decaf coffee but good selection of herbal and regular tea. Finally, they made a big deal out of printing out a receipt, a simple thing to do. read more

Convenient for visiting Rocky Mountain National Park! We only stayed for one night ($188.41 including taxes and fees), and didn't have any issues. Checking in was easy and we were given a physical key to our room. There was also plenty of (free) parking both in front and behind the inn. We arrived pretty late and didn't get a chance to utilize the amenities, but they do have a hot tub and fire pit. The room itself was adequate, with no frills - wooden furniture, minimal decor, plenty of space. The location wasn't quite in downtown Estes Park, but just a short drive to all the shops and restaurants. Breakfast was also included, but we decided to check out the options in town instead. The Maxwell Inn was such a great stay! My mom, sister, and I thoroughly enjoyed the two days we spent there and would have loved to stay longer. The room was clean and cozy, and I loved the tall ceilings. We stayed in a deluxe double queen room and it was a great size for the three of us. It is a short, beautiful walk to the downtown area and we saw lots of elk! The view from the 2nd floor room was wonderful and I love that the doors open up right outside (as opposed to a shared hallway). Really enjoyed our three night stay here. Clean, nice people, hot tub to relax in after a long day of hiking. This is a great location! Not right in the downtown, but a quick walk. This would be the perfect location once constructions ends at the Fall River entrance. It was a little bothersome to drive through town to the Beaver entrance to RMNP, but that's not the hotels fault at all. Great experience. read more

Very cute & romantic. It's at the end of down town so you avoid all the commotion of the tourists in town, but still close enough to walk to get a bite to eat. The room was impeccably clean, we got a 1 bed queen since we were only staying one night and it was perfect size for two people. Check in/out was super easy and quick. Couldn't hear anything from any other guests, which was great. But I really can't emphasize how clean our room was, shout-out to your staff cause that is always our biggest concerns with hotels. The woman at the front desk was snippy upon check in. We booked through booking.com (it was cheaper) and when we asked for a first floor room at check in she told us "this is not the time to ask. You didn't book through us and you get what is available". That's fair, but she was condescending about it. We may or may not have unscrewed the light by our room outside to look at the stars on the balcony, and we were outside maybe five minutes and she came by and was really Upset we unscrewed the light bulb. The room was decent, not a lot of air flow from the window unit. But the location was ideal, about a ten minute walk into the main downtown area. read more

A hidden gem! This locally owned inn was the perfect base for our weekend getaway in Estes. Who wants to spend a ton of money on the place where you're going to sleep on an adventure? The Maxwell far exceeded our expectations. Our room was sparkling clean, and Dana was so helpful when it came to providing us w local information about the wildfires. They have the most delightful little courtyard with a hot tub and fire pit, and it's right among the river walk so you can walk downtown (just a couple of blocks away). Cute, little, rustic lodge a few miles from the RMNP entrance. Peter & Dana Maxwell took it over a few years ago. It's a great location...walking distance into town and close to Highways 36 and 34 for exploring in the car. A big bonus is that it's not super close to the other hotels on the way up to RMNP. Loved having the extra privacy!! It's also great to wake up in the morning and see Elk grazing on the lawn out front. The room itself is small, but filled with all you need. The rooms are beautifully decorated. The bathroom is on the small side, but it was sparkly clean (as was the rest of the room). The bed has a very comfy mattress. We slept great throughout our entire trip. Free WiFi and a small refrigerator are a plus. The walls are a little thin, so beware of loud tv's in the next room. All in all, I would recommend staying here. For your $$, it's worth it! read more

It's an easy walk into town. It is very pretty with the fall foliage that was on display while we were there. The Inn keepers are pleasant and helpful. A nice little motel on the edge of town, but within a 10 minute walking distance of downtown. We experienced no difficulty with our reservation or service. Very quiet location with a great view and a great Colorado lodge appeal. Continental breakfast was more than adequate and we found the front desk service very friendly. We did find several gnats or small flies in the sink area when we arrived. We quickly removed them and it was not a huge problem the remaining stay. Apparently it's just that time of year, but I did notice that house keeping leaves the doors open. The shower/tub/toilet room is very small. Some planning is involved to turn around and open/close the door. Still... a nice place that we would likely return to. read more

After reading several reviews in hopes of finding a comfortable and clean location for an upcoming trip, I stumbled on the Maxwell Inn. Seemed like a decent place, even though there were several reviews about the likelihood of speaking to a woman with less than a hospitable disposition. Well folks, let me tell you she lived up to all the snarkiness described by others. I asked about the room itself; her response was "it has a king size bed...what a normal hotel room would have". Barely holding my temper, I asked a few other questions that were met with condescending done and just plain yuckiness. No reservation was made. I ended up extending a one night stay in Estes Park into a two day one, due in major part to the personalized, friendly, and accommodating service that Dana and Pete provided. We had such a lovely time in town that we could have gladly stayed longer. The Maxwell Inn is in a prime location situated conveniently between the charming downtown Estes Park strip and the entrance to Rocky Mountain NP. My travel partner and I spent the night here during my stay at the Stanley Film Festival, and only have good things to say about the place. The proprietors are super nice and upkeep the property and all its amenities along all aspects that I can think of; the dinning area was stocked for the continental breakfast: hard boiled eggs, cereals, oatmeals, fruits, muffins, Biscottis, milk, water bottles, and more, the rooms were cozy and spacious with a working television and luxurious bathroom, there was a library full of books and DVD, and they even had a play area for children - fully stocked. Location-wise, It is not too far from downtown, but I would suggest having a vehicle or even bicycle to make the trip, especially at night; It would be a scary walk. The inn offers something in terms of scenery as well. There was a running river just outside the inn, sprawling with Elk and a wild dog chasing a few of them. Definitely a spectacle. There is a delicious pizza place across the street with friendly and very protective patrons (a server working there had a pink pistol at her hip). I ordered the white pizza and picked it up ten minutes later. It was so good; had broccoli, spinach, and mozzerla. mmm. They also offered, buffalo chicken wing pizza. What!? I'm in. Hot tub too. During our stay we happened to encounter a few minor celebrities in the hotel as well, an actors from Freaks and Geek (I'm sure other things as well) and girl who happened tone in one of the movies premiering at the Film Festival. It's a great place, with everything you could ask for in a quaint small town inn. Who know's what you'll encounter there. read more

The BF and I spent the last 4 nights at the Maxwell Inn. We were looking for a relaxing getaway and that's just what we got. The room was clean, comfortable and cozy. There was a microwave and fridge on the room- nice for leftovers. The bed was very comfortable. The towels were amazing- big, soft, best hotel towels ever! There is a large patio with a firepit and hot tub that we enjoyed. They have a large selection of movies for checkout. The light continental breakfast each morning was a great start to the day. We stayed at the Maxwell Inn for our wedding anniversary and it was wonderful. One of cleanest rooms I've ever stayed in and you can tell that they've done a lot to update everything including the bathroom. The staff is so friendly and so are the elk herds that pass through by your window. We plan on staying here every time we come back to Estes Park. My daughter and I just spent two nights over the holiday weekend. There is always a little bit of concern when booking a hotel you have never seen before. I was very happy when we checked in and everything was even better than it appears online. The hotel is really cute. The rooms were big enough with everything needed (tv, mini-fridge, microwave). The décor matched what I would expect at a mountain get away. The only complaint I have is that the bathroom is very tiny. I am a bigger person and it just was not comfortable. My daughter is small and she was even having an issue with it. That being said, it was clean and workable. The location is amazing. You can drive into RMNP in just a few minutes. All the fun shops and restaurants are within walking distance. There is a great pizza place right across the street. The whole town was wonderful. We are already planning our next trip and we will be staying here again. read more

My sister and I stayed at The Maxwell Inn a few days ago for only one night. The service was superb! The Maxwell Inn is very old, but the owners keep it extremely clean and comfortable. It is located about half a mile to the cute area of town full of awesome restaurants and shops. The owners are a young couple and Dana, the wife, is extremely nice! She answered all our touristy questions, marked out a map for us, gave her recommendations on the free rental dvd's from their lobby, and was super accommodating. I wish them much luck and success but I doubt they will need it as they told me they are currently number one on Tripadvisor. My sister/brother-in-law took us to Estes park while we were in town visiting them. We stayed the night here before driving around the park the next day. The room was nice, two queen beds, and enough room for our pack-in-play. There was a pretty view of the mountains from the porch and the hot tub looked nice but we didn't get to use it since we got in rather late. I know the website says complimentary breakfast, but I wouldn't count on eating breakfast at the inn. It was definitely continental, featuring packaged muffins, bananas, oatmeal and small yogurts. We went out to eat that morning. The other weird thing was the woman at the front desk. I'm not sure if she was the owner or not. We went to check in and she saw my infant son and got really weird saying I only told them there were 4 people in the room not 5. It was pretty strange considering I didn't need a crib from them or anything. She went on and on about how she "counts her kids as people", like I don't think my son is a person... This is a nice, quaint little inn, about a five minute walk from the main drag. The room was elegant and comfortable, the bathroom was a little small, but really you won't be spending much time in there. A nice touch is the recharging station on the bedside table. Breakfast is what you'd expect, a good selection of pastries, fruit, cereal, and the usual coffee and juice. There is a hot tub and an enclosed patio with a fantastic view that was my breakfast spot of choice. But I'd give the Maxwell Inn 12 stars if I could. Why? Simple, the owners Dana and Peter are simply awesome folk. We had a party of 8, in 4 rooms. We got there around 11am, and everyone was cranky from being up since 3am in the morning. The rooms obviously were not ready, since check-in was 4pm. We went off to lunch and Dana would text my wife as each room got ready so that we could send people off to bed when each room was clean. She was always cheerful and helpful and she was nice enough to make reservations for us at a restaurant to save us the trouble. We were there for a wedding, and my sis-in-law had forgotten/lost the outfit she wanted to put on her toddler, and Dana was amazing enough to lend her an outfit, a cute little suit, that her son had worn to wedding. If you are planning on staying in Estes park, stay here, you may find a nice place, but you won't find nicer people, and that's what will make your visit memorable. read more
