We were a family of 8 adults coming in to have lunch. We asked the female bartender if we could slide two 4 person tables together. She replied "we don't do that here". When asked, Why?, she stated, "We just don't do that here!" in a very nasty voice." Then 2 other female bar patrons chimed in to say, ""well, the tables are close enough!". We then stated we are a family and would like to sit together as a family to eat. We then all proceeded to leave. Came for lunch and wanted to leave as soon as we went inside given the dingy ambiance but decided to stay and give it a try given the good reviews. We waited a long time to get seated and then another 10 minutes before someone stopped by. My drink was great as was the soup. It went downhill from there. I ordered a steak sandwich which i could not eat. It was extremely fatty and burnt. Truly gross and I'm always very forgiving when it comes to food. Other people in my party had burgers which we also overcooked. Very mediocre food and poor ambiance. Pass. read more

Stopped here on a cool late October trip up to see the autumn colors. Not many places open late in the season for a family of 5 to have a sit down lunch but after trolling Yelp I came across the Rustic Roadhaus. It was awesome! We were promptly greeted and invited to sit anywhere in the comfy dining room. The waitress greeted us quickly and got our drink order immediately. Mixed drinks were perfectly made. We ordered an appetizer which came out pretty quickly and placed our lunch orders. A pizza, BLT, turkey wrap, and a couple of grilled chicken Caesar salads. The pizza was really really good, and the other dishes were very tasty. ;) I could see into the kitchen and the one cook was working very hard. I wish these folks continued good luck. We stopped in for breakfast, saddled up to the bar as a foursome and had a great meal with great service. It was our server's first day and she did great. The owners both checked on us, chatted us about various happenings, and we all hung out and had an easy Sunday morning. The Rustic Hash was huge and absolutely delicious as were the omlettes. Fun little bar up in the north woods! My dad often visits this place and is now a regular. Every time I've been there, the staff is always friendly and helpful. A couple of months ago, the power went out at our cabin and we thought of the rustic right away as our little savior for a good meal of food. It has great pizza! They make an excellent old fashioned too (if I do say so myself). My dad seems to know most of the staff there, so that's nice that we can buddy up to them. They also have wireless so if you're in the north woods and don't have it yet (still stuck in the 90s era with dial-up), then head on over there and they'll treat ya nice! I've gone to Rustic on three occasions now and have been consistently happy. If you're coming here, pizza is the thing to get. The pizza is great, the beer is cold, can't ask for much more then that. One thing though is that they have 12" pizzas and 16" pizzas, but no 14". There have been times when I know a 12" won't be enough and the 16" will be too much, having a middle size would be a nice addition (though is there such a thing as too much pizza?) read more

Went for the fish fry. I kind of got that "Uh oh" feeling when we were the only folks in the dining room. The bar was hoppin'. But more diners appeared. Waitress was nice and competent, and the food was very good. All you can eat haddock for $11! Baked beans, (awesome smoky flavor) coleslaw, choice of potato and cornbread. One question--- Is it typical to serve cornbread from the refrigerator? It was good, but I've always eaten it warm or room temp. One of their potato choices, "pinecones" are mashed potatoes in a breading, and deep fried. Kind of like a large Tater Tot was their description. They're pretty boring, and could use some help. Maybe garlic, cheese or bacon? Oh, yes. They had the Up Nort' requisite critter heads and fish on the wall. read more

Great food and nice location. Don't go here if you are looking for FAST, it usually takes quite some time to get served. We have 3 young kids so we're a bit sensitive to wait time as they get antsy... however if you're looking to chill after a long day and casually converse, this is a great option. Under new management - went on a Friday night- of course most of us wanted the fish fry. We arrived about 650pm, was told the wait would be a few minutes so we sat outside on their nice patio. We were given a menu while we waited. About 20 minutes later the waitress came out to take or order, as we stared ordering found out that the only thing they had on their menu was pizza and the fish fry, even appetizers were not available. This was surprising as they have a fair amount of options. Then about 10 minutes later, we found out that they were out of fish - so the only thing we could get was pizza. 3 out of 7 in our party can not eat fish so they left. We ordered 3 pizza that took about an hour because they had messed up and put another customers order in before us even though we had been there before them. The bartender was very nice, same with the wait staff. Just a very poor management with the food. We won't be back. Very unfortunate. We spend a lot of time in Manitowish Waters and was hoping this place would be great. The new management beat get it together!!! read more

Went for a Friday fish fry. Granted, we were a little later in the evening,but still, I expected better give. It had 4 stars on Yelp (at the time anyway). Both my husband and I got the standard haddock fry, which had no flavor. Breading was limp, fish was a little chewy. It wasn't greasy and didn't taste like old oil, but it was soggy and overall disappointing. Pine cone potatoes were cutesy, but lacking any sort of seasoning. Beers were cold and service was prompt and friendly, so it did have that going. Still, overall lackluster given that I can get a much better fish fry in Milwaukee, and that's disappointing given it's the Northwoods. read more

Even for "bar food" this place was was pretty mediocre. Fair chicken fingers, walleye fingers and most sandwiches. The best choice seemed to be the walleye sandwich. Caesar salad was nothing like its namesake but still edible. My wife questioned why I even ordered a salad in a bar so maybe I should learn my lesson! NOT HANDICAPPED FRIENDLY - We stopped here for a quick lunch on a wet, rainy day. My husband had some difficulty getting up the front steps. He's a disabled veteran and was using leg braces and a cane that day. First thing we noticed when we got inside was a warm, inviting fireplace. It was also near the penny machines that we like to play while waiting for our food. The waitress said, "Right this way..." (Away from the warm fireplace into another room...!) I said, "We want to sit by the fireplace!" The waitress said, "There's a fire in this room too." Fine, but then I said, "My husband likes to play the slot machines." Then she said, "I prefer you sit in here..." Did I hear her right?? She PREFERS we sit in the other room??? I was not happy with her... Then she said, "Long story, but I have bad feet." Are you kidding me?? My husband is disabled and can barely walk and she's complaining about her bad feet?? Woman, you are in the wrong business!!! Needless to say, WE WON'T BE BACK!! First time there. Staff was friendly, very quick service. Came for the pizza, not the best pizza I have had but very good crust was home made & crispy would get it again. For desert we got lava cakes these were the best we have ever had. Would recommend this place. Decor is very rustic & cozy.
