Unfortunately, under new ownership, this place has really gone downhill! We went on a Friday night in July and the place was empty- this should have been our first clue. My husband and daughter ordered the Turkey sandwich- which used to be our absolute favorite sandwich. This time it was bone dry, lacked flavor, and was about half the size it used to be. It was a small pile of salty, dry meat on a roll. This sandwich used to be juicy, flavorful, and the portion was so generous that you could not eat the whole thing in one sitting. This time- it was so small, but nobody ate it all because it was so bad. I decided to try something different and ordered the Rueben. I asked the server (owner?) how it is and she said: "I don't eat Reuben, but people who do say it's the best they've ever had." So, I gave it a try. I can say with certainty that nobody has ever said that this sandwich was the best Reuben they've ever had. It was literally inedible. The meat had no flavor, and it was so fatty and rubbery that I literally could not even bite through it. When she came back to ask how it was, I politely told her that it was not good and she didn't apologize, take it away, or offer to take of off the bill. She told my husband to hurry up before I ate his sandwich instead and then walked away. So it sat untouched and we paid for it. I'm sorry now that we did. We should have insisted that she take it off the bill. Also, we ordered mozzarella sticks- they were not fried long enough and/or they were expired because they were mealy on the inside. Just nasty, honestly. And I know a lot of people don't care about this sort of thing, but I don't drink expired soda. I received a can of Diet Coke that was expired by five months. We left there disgusted and disappointed. This used to be one of our favorite places, but we will NOT be going back again. read more

The best smoked meats in the northwoods. We stop here every May on our way to our annual fishing trip to the Turtle Flambeau Flowage.

We just moved to the area and have been making an effort to explore new places. Some good finds and some total misses. The lazy Ace Saloon is a definite find. We came on a Wednesday a little after lunch time. You can tell it's a favorite for the folks that live near by. The menu had a good selection of appetizers, sandwiches and pizza. We tried the pork belly bites, a brisket sandwich and the firebird (turkey) sandwich. Everything was pretty flavorful. The turkey was a little salty? But still good. I would sacrifice a pinky toe if we had a place like this back home. Atmosphere: They are not allowing dine-in during COVID, carry out only or they have outdoor seating you can reserve. YAY THEM for standing up for themselves and protecting their employees. Gravel parking lot, out front. Service: They had our order ready for pick up 20 minutes after placing it, super easy transaction. Food: JUST SHUT UP, SIT DOWN, AND EAT. The food is so good, I am almost welling up with tears knowing how far away this place is and I won't get to eat here anytime soon. The smoked chicken wings with the cherry rub will be starring in my food dreams frequently. So juicy, tender and SO MUCH FLAVORRRRR. The mac n cheese bites were crispy and cheesy. The garlic cheese curds are legendary. The blue cheese dipping sauce for the wings was chunky good. I just love this place. Next time we visit, I doubt we'll be eating anywhere else the whole trip. We decided to go out and give this place a try on a Saturday night, it was pretty late so it was not busy, as a matter of fact we were the only ones in the dining room. I will say that walking up got us excited because it smelled amazing!!! Place was pretty much a bar on the inside, they had the Brewer game on and some games to play so that was cool. The bartenders was our waitress and while I am sure some people might be a bit put off by her sense of humor, we thought she was great! A real firecracker who was quick with a joke and little jabs here and there. This place is known for BBQ and that is why we picked it, and everyone that ordered BBQ really enjoyed their food. We had the brisket and pulled pork and both were very tasty, the brisket might have been a little fatty. The fries and onion rings were great too! Now for some odd reason I went into this meal and I was craving pizza so I ordered a pizza and the best thing I can say is that they need to stick to barbecue. I am someone who pretty much likes all pizza and this was just not good, it was almost like it was made with just plan tomato sauce with no seasoning. Now you may be wondering why did I give it 4 stars??? Because I should have never ordered pizza from a BBQ place! We will be back for the BBQ for sure! read more

Passing thru the area and decided to stop in for a late lunch. I am glad we did !!! The staff was very friendly. Great food !! I had the hot ham & cheese sandwich, it was delicious . Wife had the Pulled pork sandwich, said it was great. Also had the Southwestern turkey soup, very good. I would highly recommend this place. No credit cards accepted, bring cash. Headed to the Lazy Ace today for a leisurely lunch. Nice bar and plenty of tables; quickly seated and drink orders taken. The pulled pork BBQ was wonderful, as was the pulled turkey. This by far is one of my must stops. The smoked BBQ is awesome! The Sat. night 1/2 rack ribs are fantastic(go early)! The brisket and pulled pork sandwiches are a must, but what I absolutely love is the Smoked pulled pork pizza! If you haven't tried this, it is a must if you love pizza and pulled pork. This is one of our favorite stops when in the Northwoods! You must must must have the turkey sandwich - is SO flavorful and delicious. My kids love the popcorn chicken and we love the fun atmosphere. Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon for lunch after hearing about the amazing smoked meat sandwiches. Ordered a beef brisket sandwich and it took about 10 minutes to get. There were about 3 other groups of 4 there also. Waitress was very competent but not overly friendly. I may not be a smoked brisket expert, but my sandwich wasn't good. Just dry, sliced, overdone beef. Not brisket as I know it which is usually a little fatty, fall apart meat that is yummy. French fries were excellent but wasn't a fan of the coleslaw only because I don't like green pepper and this had a lot of it. A must stop for us each year on our way north. Great local BBQ spot. Tasty Bloody Mary and generous beer chaser. Portions are huge so if you are a light eater you may choose to split something with another person. This is a small place and minimal staff so don't expect fast or extraordinary service. Never again. We were excited to try this after all the reviews but couldn't get our order placed without three different rude comments from the waitress. She did not want us there and so we decided to leave after she was angry that we wanted to drink water on a hot day and not soda or beer. Good food? Maybe, but not worth harassment from staff! We love the Lazy Ace! It is simply a great place to get consistently good food at reasonable prices. Sandwiches and pizzas are fantastic. In the summer they sometimes have a shrimp boil which is a worth a visit. I especially appreciate the wifi...I work in the resturant while my husband enjoys the Packer game in the bar! read more

Great food, good prices. I can't believe it took me three years to stop and have a sandwich! Their smoked brisket sandwich is delicious with fries and homemade coleslaw, all for a very reasonable price. No sauce on the brisket, next time I'll have to ask if they have sauce on the side. Also had the pulled pork sandwich which was also great with a slightly spicy sweet sauce. can't wait to go back. The restaurant is in an old train depot from the logging days, kind of out in the middle of no where. Very friendly owners and servers.
