I see many reviews here on the low side and so am moved to comment! Firstly, if you don't like the stone thing, and I must say I don't, ask for it cooked by the chef. If you don't want the polenta chips, and I agree with you, ask for real ones instead. Others are griping over close tables, prices etc. I think its meant to be more of a cafe style ambience, and I thought the prices are pretty reasonable. There are some pricey things, e.g. halibut, but its a pricey fish (36 a kg today). The portions are good so the price reflects that. There are some really good value items, salads and pasta for example.
There are lots of flavours as one reviewer complained but that is good?! I go back just for the salad. The luscious lime is fantastic. I have also had the orange one and its great. The crab toast, quail, duck sandwiches, tempura of salmon are all amazing. The melon and ginger was really good - I tried this on the waiter's recommendation. All these dishes have beautiful, clean flavours I love such as lime, ginger, mango and so on.
On the main course I have had the halibut, tuna, glam burgers and lamb burgers. The tuna was a bit lacking in flavour I thought, so I agree with another reviewer here, normally I love this. The halibut is beautiful, the walnut relish a great accompaniment. This is my husband's favourite. My favourite is still the lamb burger although it's way to big and unmanageable. Next time I am going to have a selection of starter, bites and salads and skip the main as these little dishes bursting with fresh flavours are the restaurants strong point.
My daughter was full vegetarian while here so she had pasta (penne) which I tasted and it was beautiful but very rich. She had a starter portion for main and she could not finish it, so great value at €10. My husband also had the fish in the bag on one visit as recommended by a reviewer but he did not like it and found it lacking in flavour.
Cocktails are expensive but have lovely fresh ingredients. The wine selection is limited but well priced and good.
In summary, I love this restaurant. I cannot wait to go back. Unfortunately it is really fashionable at the moment and impossible to get in unless you book well in advance, must be masterchef in action! This and Ananda's in Dundrum are my favourites, and this even is versus restaurants like Patrick Guilbald and Chapter One. It is more casual dining, but that is sometimes preferred, especially if we go with my daughter who loves it and does not like the more stuffy style restaurants. read more
