In town for a long weekend and asked some locals on where to eat for dinner and the Rusty Nail was mentioned multiple times. It was a fun little find with good food. It gives off the vibe of a sports bar but also a place to sit and have a casual meal. The fried pickles came out hot and crispy and they were wonderful! Even after sitting and munching on them after 5 minutes the ones that were still in the basket were still warm. The PB+J burger was amazing! It has a nice little kick with every bite you took. It had the perfect amount of spicy that wasn't too overwhelming. The BBQ wings were also very good! Cooked to perfection and had the perfect amount of sauce on them. The cheese balls were really good but had too much cheese in each bite you took. The cheese balls were also much larger than what we were thinking they were going to be. Roughly the size of a golf ball. The service was splendid. There was one waiter and bartender working while we ate but you wouldn't have guessed that by how fast our drinks and food came out. Our waiter was very attentive and checked in on us, while waiting on every other table in the building. If you are passing through town this is definitely a place to try out! read more

Great find in small town Minnesota country. Food was absolutely delicious. We came here twice during our trip. We ordered burgers, club sandwich and sunfish sandwich all of which were great. Fries deserve a special mention because they were amazing. This bar also has great selection of beers on tap, we had GOLDEN ROAD MANGO CART and it was delicious. Menu they had on the web site is outdated. So I've added new one in my photos. If you are in the area give this place a try. read more

Three years since our last visit and all's well at the Rusty Nail. Grabbed a cold Fergus Brewing beverage while waiting on the carryout order. Both small salads were rather large - the house and the Caesar were very good - crisp green lettuce and good assortment of toppings. The chicken Bahn mi sandwich was good and spicy, but would have reduced the amount of sauce as a little sloppy. The pepper jack burger was done perfectly (a tad of pink after the 10-minute drive) but a tad salty for me. The house made chips are excellent - crisp and not greasy. Service was prompt and friendly. $7 for a draft beer is a tad steep. read more

This was quite the surprise. The Rusty Nail is like taking a trendy bar from Uptown or Grand Ave and plop it right into the heart of Battle Lake, MN. I know the other Yelpers have all echoed the same sentiment. Trendy, save for the northern MN decor of antler chandeliers, and big game heads (buffalo, moose, etc) on the walls. The build out is nice, with balcony seating, spacious and bright main room. They did forget to finish a wall in the men's bathroom lol. There is the obligatory pull tabs counter, and a deep craft and microbrew lineup. Nordeasts would be proud. They offer live music every night of the week. We ordered broasted chicken with fries and sunnies with fries. Yep. Sunfish fillets! It was all very yummy. The fries were cut pomme frie style with seasoned salt, and both the chicken and fish were amazing. The chicken was juicy with a well seasoned breading. The sunnies were battered in a traditional fish and chips batter. You can see in the pics that it's actual flaky sunfish meat. Reminds me of a day out at the lake. We walked up and down the main drag on this fall day, and settled on this place...for being city slickers this place felt right at home. Our server was quick, attentive, and cheery. No complaints, unless you're an animal activist lol. If you're ever here in Battle Lake check it out and get the Sunnies. I do not believe I have ever seen sunfish on a menu before today. read more

This was super good and very unexpected in small town Minnesota. Hard to pick a sandwich or burger because all the choices sound good. I picked the hangover burger and it was awesome. Fresh handcut fries were awesome!! We had the cheese balls for an app and it sounds weird but those things were heaven on a plate. What a gem! First, let me say Cocktails. They're amazing. The grapefruit gimlet. The blackberry goose. I wanted to try the salted caramel martini... next time. Well crafted for sure. The bloodies weren't spicy and didn't come with a chaser, the chips came out like shake at the bottom of a bag, and the bahn mi was NOT a bahn mi. The server obviously didn't want to check their specials or soups when asked. The patio was infested with flies and wasps. On the up side, the drinks were boozy. Great- got walleye cakes and burgers, one substituted chicken breast & Lagunitas & Deschutes Fresh squeezed. Walleye cakes were very good: light fry & not too bready. Nice cabbage/kale with Asian vinagraitte. Chicken breast burger with provolone was nice & juicy. Beef burger with pepperjack was nicely done, but burger was a bit salty. Buns & pickles great. Hand-cut fries make the meal. Seasoning was very nice. Cool atmosphere, clean, & very welcoming to city folk! Would def stop in again. Overall 4.5, so rounding up. read more

This is a burger and beer bar. Not a damn thing wrong with the concept. I give it one star for that alone. I like burgers. I like beer. Have a free star. The quality of the meat is super average. Like, Dairy Queen average. I'm not being a snob, I like Dairy Queen burgers. The quality of the bread, condiments, fries and apps is all really high and that brings the quality up. I want my meat to serve as more than a vessel for toppings though. They should think about upping their game here. I've been twice. Once the service was super lame. The kid that waited on us acted like he wanted to be somewhere else; he was in his lower 20's. Probably did want to be somewhere else. He was effective though. He brought our food out and it was what we ordered. Did he grunt at us? Sure, but I guess who really cares. He was fine. The food was good that night. Fish sandwich was amazing, burger was pretty good, fried pickles kicked ass. The fries were great quality fries, but this is where I am picky. Fries have to be hot. I don't accept cold fries. It's the only thing I ever reject and I don't send them back- I don't want double dipped in the fryer fries while my burger gets cold. I want hot ass fries. If McDonalds can do this right every time, I want an expensive place to get it right out of the kitchen. I warned him ahead of time I was a snob about fry heat. Got cold fries. Got more. Amazing specialty cocktails and numerous beers on tap. I had the grapefruit gimlet, it was perfect, not too sweet not too strong. Ordered the pickles but received our meal before pickles arrived, we didn't care just told the server to cancel the order. My husband had the Cuban which was delish, really soft roll and very good bbq. I had the steak blue cheese wrap, the steak was med rare which I definitely appreciated and they were not stingy with the blue cheese which I also loved. When we were just finishing the waitress brought us our deep fried pickles with no charge! We were SO grateful! What a kind gesture and showing amazing service! We had a delicious midnight snack, they weren't too thin or salty like they sometime are. We will definitely go back! Outstanding service! read more

They promote great burgers and apparently were voted best burger....My friend and I ordered our burgers medium rare and both were served medium + and on the dry side. I've been to dozens of bars in small towns all over the US. However, this bar is probably the best small town bar I've ever been to. Actually, there are very few bars in the Twin Cities that I can compare it to. Their service is top notch--they don't fake good service. The security folks are extremely courteous and professional--but don't mess with them or else. The musician last night was spectacular. Amazing Gouda cheese sauce! What else can I say? We had burgers on our first trip during our vacation in MN. Everything was so good, but we didn't have room to try everything on the menu the first time. So we went back again! First timer here. A self-proclaimed foodie, home-chef and hobby Mixologist...and I loved this restaurant. From the first impression to the last bite, I was completely happy. Very interesting menu. My husband and I started with the Walleye cakes and they were delicious!! The peanut vinegarette and wasabi aoli were such a great compliment to the walleye cake that was more walleye than breading...always a nice plus! Went to the Rusty Nail this evening, started with strawberry Mojito's, which were good, I usually Have leaves of mint not torn into tiny pieces in the drink, but over all it was a very good mojito. The rest was very greasy, either the grease needed to be hotter, or changed! We had appetizers, breaded cheese bites. they were really good but extremely greasy. I ordered the bluegill fish sandwich, which consisted of tiny pieces of fish with heavy breading some you could not even tell if there was any fish in it. I would definitely not order the fish sandwich again. Most fish sandwiches have a fillet of fish in it. They have hand cut fries which are very good but again, very greasy. My friend ate only half of her hamburger and could not eat the rest it was tasty but there again it was greasy. Good drinks, great selection of tap beer, great atmosphere.
