Rusty taco is a great quick meal spot. My boy is obsessed with it, primarily because he doesn't like the food I eat and I live within 5 minutes walking distance. I'm happy there are 2 vegetarian options and 2 seafood options. I love love the mushroom one, I don't know what it is, but it is super freaking good. The boy who has tried more of the menu loves both the BBQ Pork and Fried Chicken. I think it is great that there is a fair amount of toppings and the lime always gives it some extra umph. I only wish that two corn tortillas were used and this is for two reasons. Some of the tacos make the corn tortilla really slimly and it breaks apart easily. To prevent this you have to eat it as fast as possible, which granted they are small and this is easy to do, but I like to eat slower, probably more my problem than others. Anyways, it would be slightly more filling and worth the price. Corn tortillas are not expensive and I can get cheaper tacos at authentic places for cheaper and they have 2 corn. That being said, the tacos here are really good as previously stated, obviously given by the four stars! All the hot sauces are great, especially the actually spicy one, it really ramps up the taco. I was really excited when I saw this place was coming to NE. After my third time visiting, I have to say, that I'm overall, a little disappointed. The first time I came they were out of nearly everything on their menu, but it was one of their first days opened, so I cut them some slack. The tacos I ordered were not ones I'd usually choose, and they lacked flavor. The second and third times didn't make me feel better about the place. I don't know what it is. The tacos are just a little bland. I had the steak fajita taco and the BBQ pork taco most recently. The steak was really dry. The BBQ pork was okay. I'm not really fan of the slaw. Unlike others, though, I kind of like the atmosphere. Very industrial, but I think they pull it off. Anyways, I think this is my last attempt with this place. Oh my, oh my. I was pedaling through around 7pm after a long day at work. Rusty Taco has appeared in too many recent conversations to pass it up. I was solo and the night was unbelievably beautiful, so I grabbed a fish taco (grilled) and a black bean taco and headed to a park. I was glad to have "gluten friendly" options (perhaps the absence of "free" acknowledges cross contamination potential? I didn't ask, but this may be a red flag for those with celiac type concerns). At any rate, these little soft corn shelled tacos nestled in a hand stamped brown bag (reminiscent of field trip day in elementary school) were packed with pure culinary heaven. Tasty, spicy, and each wrapped up with its own wedge of lime. I like lime so much that the tangy little green guy may be why I didn't hesitate on that fifth star. My meal was perfectly seasoned, the ingredients were clearly fresh and real (the bright purple cabbage on my fish taco was crunchy and delicious), and the hot sauce held some real heat (not Minnesota heat). Did I mention that this place is very affordable? Also their staff were friendly and fast. I look forward to many happy returns. We ordered from them from a hotel in the cities as our child is a regular patient at children's hospital. We order do not even get 1/2 our order (and cold) called no answer called another location and complained they said we would get a call. Didn't so called location 3 days later made excuses said they would refund 1 week later nothing. Stay away from this place will, will be complaining to my credit card company to get charges reversed. I approached the Rusty Taco with low expectations. First the name sounds like a euphemism for a sex act that I would be ashamed of myself for engaging in, and second, when it comes to Mexican food I have an immediate bias towards burritos over tacos. A burrito is bigger, more filling, usually contains beans of the refried variety, and is a much larger salsa vessel than a taco. I will continue this by stating that I was not disappointed in my experience at the Rusty Taco. I ordered two tacos, and nachos that I split. My Tacos, though small, were really delicious, and very reasonably priced. The Shrimp Taco was easily my favorite of the two (the other taco I ordered was the Fried Chicken taco). I paired the tacos and nachos with an assortment of different delicious salsas that were provided. The nachos were pretty basic, but had a nice add on feature at .50 for each additional item. I spruced up my nachos with a very tasty queso dip and black beans! The look of the restaurant was very modern and clean, with a clever hipsterish motif. The service was really friendly, fast, and informative. Nothing better than a person who makes eye contact when speaking to you! My only complaint, which seems to echo through a few other reviews, is that if you want authentic tasting Mexican food this place is definitely not your stop. The Rusty Taco provides a good, reasonably priced meal in a cool environment, but lacks the belly busting experience of a "Taco Riendo". This is truly one of the latest gems in a city with an embarrassment of culinary riches. Bad bad bad. Being a pescatarian, I tried the shrimp taco and the fish taco. Both were cold and with each bite I couldn't tell the difference between the oily 'fried' soggy coating and the fish. It was all equally a terrible texture and very dry. The guacamole had little flavor and I'm convinced it was all processed ingredients without any real avocados in it. The chips and beer were good! Quick, easy, pretty good tacos. I've had the fish taco, bbq brisket, and fried chicken. All were pretty good, a little on the bland side. The tacos are pretty cheap 2.50 -3. You can also order chips with salsa, queso, or guacamole for $3. The salsa choices are pretty good, with my favorite being the habanero salsa. It's has some nice heat. I also like how the side opens garage style to feel like you have some outdoor seating. My first experience with Rusty Taco was out of one of the food trucks in downtown Minneapolis, and after stopping there on my breaks from work regularly for a few weeks, the oddity of the name wore down and I didn't notice. That said, when I learned they were opening up a location a few blocks from my apartment, I was excited, and The Boyfriend was thrilled. (I believe his words were, "Date night, honey? On me!" with a waggle of the eyebrows and everything). I've had every taco on the menu and they are all pretty good. I wouldn't say they are AMAZING, and I definitely have to utilize their rack of sauces (that come in different flavors and spice levels) for some extra flavor, but you can't beat it for the prize. If I am starving, I get three tacos and a margarita on the rocks for about $11. The atmosphere is nothing special. Sports games playing, metal tables, boring lighting, but it's a relaxing place to kick back for awhile. Service is blah the times but I've been there, but in their defense, it was close to closing time and they were still very fast and efficient. We drove barely 2 minutes to a nearby brewery... Open up our tacos, they aren't labeled as they have been in the past, and every single one is cold. Completely cold after an almost 20 minute wait. I could barely eat the meat in fear of how long that it's been sitting at an unsafe temperature. I will never come back and will recommend others to avoid this location at least. Rusty Taco is good, not great. The prices are way cheap for what you get, the tacos are fun and different, but everything is a little one-note. I had been to the food truck before and was hoping the tacos were a little better, but they were the same. I wish they had some more fun with sauces and salsas. You'd expect a place that's straight from Texas to have some super Mexican influenced food, but a lot of the tacos lacked flavor. My two favorite tacos were probably the fried chicken and fish. It's also fast, which is nice when you're hungry. Guac and queso were both delicious (but when aren't they?). Chips are really good, too. Get these as a side to your tacos. My biggest problem with this place? They close at 10. This would be such a great place to go post-Northeast bar hopping, so why are they closing so early? Cheap prices and a space that seems suited for the drunchies... this would be my jam (er... guac?) if I was tipsy. This place was once great, but now can't do basic things correctly. I ordered 20 tacos online for pick up. Their website says that the food will be ready at 1:11 PM, so I hang out for 20 minutes then head over to their Maple Grove location. When I get there at 1:05, my food is sitting out (no heat lamp) stone cold. I then take my food home and search the labels for my pork tacos to find none, so I grab a spicy chicken -- well, it isn't as labeled, it is a brisket taco. As it turns out, all the labels are wrong. So everyone ended up eating cold random tacos. Not a fun experience. I tried to call the store, and about 5 times the person answering just said "please hold" then hung up on me. Eventually, I yelled "no" when they asked me to "please hold" and explained the problem, but they didn't offer any solution. Rusty Taco is now officially rusty at the taco business. R Taco stands for "Rusty Taco," which I'm about 99% sure is a sexual euphemism for something nasty. That said, the tacos are actually pretty decent.
