Very cute place. Service is horrible. We were seated/ordered our food, we were splitting a meal, saw the $2 charge, no problem. Another 2 tables arrived after us, one party of 2, one party of 4, were all served before us. Crazy. When our food came, the order wasn't even split, we just received an extra plate for the $2. Asked the owner about it and he felt they were too busy to split. Too bad tho, it was a nice place, good food. Overall turnoff. read more

Mediocre food and poor service for steep price after a long wait. Save your time and money - go elsewhere. I do not understand the glowing reviews here, unless they are from people with some stake in the place. Our wait was long (likely to force us to have time to review the wares in their store, which is right up front). The waiter was barely communicative, got our order wrong, did not fix it when asked, and charged us for what we didn't get anyway. He paid for it in his tip (which was small - I'm usually a GREAT tipper). The menu is designed to make you overspend because only the scrambled eggs come in meals - to get eggs any other way requires cobbling together a meal ala carte, which makes it very pricey. For a restaurant that specializes in breakfast, you'd think they'd have breakfast nailed down, but the food is just so-so. We will not be returning. read more

This place is fantastic. The staff was incredible and super kind, especially considering we showed up with 4 kids and 2 adults 30 minutes before closing. All 6 of us ate everything on our plates because it was all so good. My husband who never shares his food even let me take a few bites of the stuffed blueberry French toast because it was too good to experience alone. He was like you have to try this and it was like heaven in my mouth. We will absolutely come back and plan to make this place part of our Door County tradition. read more

Super-cute location with a reasonably-priced gift shop. Portions are HUGE and well worth the money. The pancakes are fantastic, the hash browns crispy, and the eggs perfectly cooked. While the menu isn't large, breakfast choices don't need to be expansive. They have a small kids' menu and crayons. Be prepared to wait (especially on weekends) as there isn't a lot of seating. We will definitely make this a staple on our Door County trips. read more

I'll start with saying you'll leave full! Portion are huge & you're definitely getting your dollars worth for sure! Now there are a few things that kinda put me off. I'll start with the fact that we were given a 30 minute wait which turned into an hour...hour and about 20 minutes till we actually got food on the table. Now usually this wouldn't be something I'd really comment on but when you're dining with kiddos they tend to get hangrier than adults.I just wish we would have been given a better time frame & I guess it gave us the chance to walk the property & check out the shop they had. They also do have a little coffee shop in front where you can order drinks while you wait. Anyways...the reason for our wait was because as I noticed once entering the dining area they only have like a dozen tables...and maybe 1 that will fit a party of 6 or more comfortably. I would maybe suggest to see if there's a way to reconfigure the space to add more tables to reduce wait times...just saying. Now for the positives, cause there were a few! First I'm a huge fan of a small menu, which they had everything on it was simple & delicious all around! The kids menu was great too as it was 1/2 portions of the adult menu! French toast was good, pancakes not bad (I like mine a big fluffier) but these were decent, bacon crispy, over all decent food & like I said portions were huge! I ordered myself The Farmall wrap which was good, a bit heavy on the hash browns but the eggs and veggies & cheese were good. So for food I'd give it a good solid 4 but cause of the wait I'd give them a 3. I love that they're a family owned restaurant & they do put a lot of heart into what they do & what they serve. If you're looking for a salad with "cherry dressing" that's glorified cherry pie filling glopped all over your 99.9% green leaf lettuce salad, call your friends because this is the place for you. Manager was an ass!!!!! No substitutions! 4 of us. All ordered the breakfast wrap with no mushrooms. Apparently that's a substitution!?! The waitress came back and told us we couldn't ask for no mushrooms. My friend said, "wat if im allergic" the waitress said then order something else! The only time u can't make substitutions at a restaurant is when food is pre-made!!! Because chefs are paid to cook, not put pre-made slop in a wrap! A basically they're mcdonalds... After we got done eating and were going up to the counter to pay our bill, the manager made it a point to confront us and tell us that next time we would not be allowed it to ask for wraps without mushrooms!! What terrible service!!! He basically asked for us to not return!! And believe me, I live 5 miles away and haven't returned since and will never go again and have told everyone about my bad experience bc they're not nice and don't deserve the business! read more

I visited this place due to the two, 5-star reviews. Unpretentious is definitely the word. I suspect that my roasted pork was tender and perfectly cooked earlier in the day. In the evening, it was tough and dry, unfortunately. The flavor was good, but the dryness was disappointing. The mashed potatoes seem real, but the gravy seemed to be from a can. The vegetables were steamed perfectly, but I recognized the mix to be frozen originally. The roll also seemed to be prepared elsewhere. My daughter's individual pizza was very thin, and also did not look homemade. The service was great, the decor is exactly what you would expect, and the ice cream was awesome. The ice cream is what gives this place an extra star -- it was rich, creamy, and delicious. Otherwise, I really can't recommend it. read more

Great place to stop and in for breakfast and be inspired! The menu covers the basics and the daily special (pumpkin stuffed French toast with pecan and whipped cream) was amazing!! The only reason for 4 out of 5 stars is because one of our guests was looking for a bigger combo breakfast option. For everyone else, portions were filling. Artwork with home, country, light humor surround you. According to the owner, his wife and daughter are the artists and buyers who decorate the place and provide items for sale. They also host classes where people can work on similar art projects they see in the store or something different of interest. We bought a couple Stencil kits and paint to take home. It looks like the kits are set up well, so can't wait to give it a try! read more

Visited on a Sunday around 8:30 am. When we arrived, we had a 25 minute wait despite being the only people waiting for a table and several open tables in full view. But, the waiting area was full of cute things, so we enjoyed our time. Once seated, we put in our orders (we each ordered a scramble) and then the real wait began. Granted, it was Father's Day, but the wait for our food was ridiculous. From order to table, it took 45 minutes for three breakfasts. The place doesn't allow substitutions or additions on the weekends, so I'm not sure why it took so long to push out the food. In the intervening 45 minutes, our waitress didn't stop to check on us or explain the time. Once our food arrived, it was okay. I read previous reviews that describe the food as bland, which was generally true of our meals as well. We were reasonably happy with the meal given the expense, but really upset over the time it took. All-in-all, we were in the building for 90 minutes for breakfast. I wouldn't recommend if you're in a hurry or have a schedule to keep, but if you're a Pinterest addict, you'll love the little store section. read more

Our group of three arrived on an un-crowded weekday and received above average service and personal attention from the (we're told) always present owners. We all opted for the fall special- pumpkin pancakes. Tasty and filling. None of our group of big eaters was able to clean our plates. The restaurant also has a "country store" complete with tasty fudge and lots of crafts and artwork produced by the owners. I'll be back on my next trip to Door County. read more

Don't let the rustic farm building and gravel parking lot fool you! This breakfast joint is great. The outside defiantly makes you fell like your eating in a barn. The inside is clean and modern. The overall package is great. There was a short wait, there on Fourth of July week. There is a shop attached to restaurant with odds and ends, that you can visit while you wait. They give you a pager so you know when your table is ready. They also sell fudge which is damn good. Get the snickers fudge if they have it. To the food I ordered the number three which is eggs ham and bacon. I think it's very hard to mess up on eggs and being a breakfast place they are as good as you can get. The portion and fixings in the eggs was generous. What we really came for was the stuffed French toast. Today they had smore and a fruit stuffed French toast. My wife got the smore and it was to die for. I highly recommend it. Overall great food, great service, great atmosphere. You won't be disappointed. Check out the stuffed French toast! read more

Frankly, I liked it and agree with other reviews that it is unpretentious in the best possible way. The Early Riser breakfast is a good deal (two eggs, breakfast meat and toast for $4ish). Everyone enjoyed the meal. The only downsides were (1) the coffee wasn't strong, sort of watery, but a second cup did taste a little better, and (2) the service was slow, our waitress was slow to refresh the coffee, but another waitress or hostess picked up the slack, which was much appreciated. I wouldn't hestiate to return, but it isn't the type of place that you plan a trip around--but truthfully, The Rusty Tractor Cafe is likely comfortable with that. read more

What a fun and delicious breakfast!! We were a party of 6 and arrived on a Sunday around 10:00am. We waited about 10 minutes for a table and enjoyed browsing their little shop. The special of the day was stuffed French Toast with Door County cherries and the chef's special cherry sauce. Decadently delicious! I have always wanted to try this place it looks so cute from the outside. Food was delicious. I loved the stuffed French toast. There is a different flavor all the time. We had Sea Salt Carmel Chocolate Chip. The egg scrambles were pretty good, I prefer mine mixed with the hashbrowns not just eggs sitting on top. Biscuits and gravy looked delicious and so did the pumpkin pancakes. My husband loved the Bloody Mary. My only complaint was no substitutions like even toast for flatbread. I really liked this place. Plenty of seating, the portion sizes were HUGE and the store was filled with fun stuff to look at. There is a kids menu. I got an international scramble, which was scrambled eggs over shredded hashbrowns and veggies, topped with tons of cheese. I could only eat half and I don't normally add salt to my food but I did need to add some to this dish. It's probably a good thing that they don't oversalt their food. Bottomless coffee was $1.95. They had a special that was a cherry pie stuffed French toast. Sweetness overload! The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because literally everything "special" that we asked for didn't come out that way. In other words, my sister asked for extra crispy bacon, my husband asked for extra crispy hashbrowns and the waitress offered whipped cream for my daughter's pancakes but we got none of these things. On Sunday's they don't serve lunch even if it time time they say on the menu, you CAN NOT get only egg whites as they don't have them and it is to difficult for the cooks to make. We own a second home in Door County and have been coming here for almost 20 years, so we know the food scene. This is easily in the top 5 on the peninsula for lunch. Don't let the hokey name fool you - this place knows how to prepare savory sandwiches and similar lunch fare, along with sweets and baked goods, with the best of 'em. While you're waiting for your lunch, browse the antiques and Americana for sale. The service is friendly and more than competent. While not in the heart of one of Door County's lovely towns, it's worth the drive, about 8 miles south of downtown Egg Harbor. Also serves breakfast. read more

We stopped in here on Sunday of 4th of July weekend. The place is small and we waited several minutes before someone even acknowledged that we were there. They were not full. The menu is limited on Sunday with no substitutions to move people through quickly. Not impressed with the menu and quite a few items include mushrooms that my husband is allergic to. Didn't know asking for no mushrooms constituted a substitution. I had pancakes and my husband had a breakfast wrap. Little flavor to mine and my husband hated his. Would not return. I wrote a negative review on Trip Advisor and the owners gave a big long response indicating I wrote it out of spite. That is not true. I am just writing an honest review for feedback to them, but especially for the benefit of other travelers. read more
