We love Thai food and use to eat at a bunch of different places in Vegas. We have been looking for a good Thai place that compares to what we were use to. This is on a side street and without looking on yelp I had no clue it was here! We both ordered Curry. It was good a bit different than the way other places make it. I can only imagine this is the more authentic way and not americanized. I could taste the spices and it had a good taste to the curry. The only thing was it was a bit thinner than what we like. I guess were use to it having more coconut milk in it.You can order it the way you want spicy or not much. I said id like mine a one my husband ordered his a 3. They were both perfect on spice. A young girl waited on us she was friendly, I think the owners were running the place, as for price its a bit higher than some for less food. We didn't feel we got enough rice for the two of us and we had to order a little more. My husband was actually still hungry when we left. I hate to do this but this has to be said. Rutherford Thai needs to stop being greety and hire some help, one server to at least get you a drink while you wait 30 min for your appetizer and another 30 for your meal, all in sitting here for 1.5-2 hours for Thai food is not for all. It's always just him and her doing EVERYTHING! The food is wonderful but the dine-in experience is why I have 1 star. We are not ever in any hurry but that's way too much or a wait, dying of thirst just to get a drink. This is my new favorite restaurant. Had to twist my hubbie's arm because he didn't think he liked Thai food, but half the restaurants in town were closed for the holiday, so he didn't have many options. Let me just say he is now a convert! They were slammed, every table full, but the service was efficient and pleasant. The food was definitely worth the wait - crisp, colorful vegetables and tender chicken, in a light, flavorful broth. Loved the food!! Shared the Pad See Ew with beef and Panang Curry with chicken during their lunch special ($9.95 per entree until 3 pm)! Pad See Ew's noodles were perfectly soft but would have liked a more generous serving of beef. Panang Curry has an irresistible peanut curry that left me scraping the bowl for every drop. Two not-so-great things: (1) the Thai Iced Coffee was way too sweet, almost sickly, for my taste, and (2) the waitress could have checked in on us more--we had to find her to finally get the check. It breaks my heart to write this review, but Rutherford Thai really messed up tonight. We even gave them a chance to make it right, and they somehow messed that up as well... Our server was very sweet, and I don't believe it was her fault at all, but only two of our five entrees arrived initially. A third arrived about ten minutes later, but it had several ingredients that we'd asked to be excluded, so we let them know and they took it back to the kitchen to be remade. At this point, two of the entrees still hadn't arrived. After fifteen more minutes passed, the waitress returned and told us that they'd forgotten to make the other two entrees, one of which was pad thai with just noodles and sauce, something you'd think that a thai place should be able to do relatively easily... The other missing entree was ordered exactly as it appeared in the menu, no changes. Just forgotten. They brought the final two dishes out, and one of them turned out to be incorrect (requested with no peanuts, pad thai noodles and sauce only). The waitress again said that she'd made it clear to the kitchen what the dish was supposed to be, but they must have misunderstood. The two waitresses on duty tonight kept checking on us and apologizing profusely. It was about 40 minutes from the time the first entree arrived until the final entree arrived. And when the check came, we were surprised that we had been charged in full for the incorrect and extremely delayed dishes - any gesture, no matter how small, like making one of our appetizers free, would have gone a long way. So when we gently brought it up to the waitress, the manager told her that, and I quote, "Because there was so much confusion, we had to throw a lot of food away. And so we have to charge you." Like many of the other negative reviews, when the food and service is good, it's really good - but when it's bad, it's frustratingly, incomprehensibly bad... And our first experience there had been good! We love thai food, and we love the fact that a smaller town has access to other culture's food, but it was such a terrible experience, I don't think we'll be able to eat here again. And to think that just a little consideration - the owner/chef herself coming out to apologize, shaving off the slow entrees of the bill, offering something for a future visit - could have saved us from having to write this, and probably kept us as returning customers... at least now we have a chance to check out some of the other spots around Rutherfordton, and we'd recommend that others do the same! read more

So good that I ate here two nights in a row. The pad Thai is perfectly cooked, it had just the right amount of peanuts, chicken, egg, and green onion! The second time I ordered extra sauce because it wasn't quite to my liking of flavor, that extra sauce made it perfect! Their Thai teas are the best that I've had, and I've eaten and drank at many Thai places in my life. After all, it is my favorite food! I also fell in love with their Thai dumplings. Recommended by one of the wineries we visited while in the area, the little town of Rutherford was on our way back to Charlotte. It was a little difficult to find even with GPS, it's one block off Main Street at 2nd St, easy parking right outside of the entrance (no access to 2nd St from Main Street only a pedestrian walkthrough. Entrance has a large number of plants in the windows and a small sign above the entrance. So glad it was recommended. We were the only ones there when we arrived but over the hour numerous other locals as well as several getting takeout also came in. I got the Red Curry with chicken and rice, 3 star (spice level), I like it hot but not so hot I have to keep asking for water. I really enjoyed the food. Note they do not have beer or wine, I asked about a beer and ended up with water. Great little place if your in the area and like Thai food as much as I do! I'm a fan! read more

Service SLOW-food was Excellent! Came for lunch on a Wednesday. The restaurant has six booths and two party size tables, so it's a fairly small front of house. However, they could have employed more than one server for the lunch rush. We got there before several other tables, so we were helped rather promptly. However, saw a few people up and leave due to the wait time to order. I have a close friend from Thailand that owned a restaurant in Asheville which gave me a pretty good expectations for authentic Thai. The massuman curry was spot on, and the steamed rice perfectly prepared. The Thai tea with cream was excellent! Meals came in a timely manner for us and all patron around us once we ordered. which is a sticking point for me. Great food, but service could vastly improve, with the addition of FOH staff at lunch. read more

The food is good and I love having this option in Rutherfordton! The two times O have been there, one experience was AMAZING! Service was quick and the Pad See Ew was DELICIOUS! The other time was just okay with a weird service experience and a Ton Yum soup that left something to be desired. I am giving this restaurant a 5 based partially on where it is located. I lived in the DMV DC, Maryland and NOVA area for most of my life. I have eaten Thai food all over the country in big cities and little cities. If this restaurant was in the DMV I would give it a 4 but since it is in Rutherfordton, NC it deserves a 5. I have lived in Rutherfordton for just over 1 month. I have eaten here 4 times. I have had the green curry, red curry, massaman curry, Pad Thai, Tom yum soup, satay, spicy eggplant and a few other things which are slipping my mind. The food is solid. The Pad Thai is excellent. Some places are just too greasy and lack flavor. Their version is sweet and not at all greasy. The curries are flavorful and well cooked. I love that put sweet potatoes in the massaman. Rutherford Thai has become our Friday night takeout staple. We did eat in house once but they do not serve beer or wine so we opt for take out on Fridays. It would be nice to be able to get a Singha but in small town NC that might be too much to ask. Service in the restaurant is uneven. The time we at in the service was avg but every time we have ordered take out the young lady who took the order and rang us up was pleasant and efficient.
