I am giving this restaurant a 5 based partially on where it is located. I lived in the DMV DC, Maryland and NOVA area for most of my life. I have eaten Thai food all over the country in big cities and little cities. If this restaurant was in the DMV I would give it a 4 but since it is in Rutherfordton, NC it deserves a 5. I have lived in Rutherfordton for just over 1 month. I have eaten here 4 times. I have had the green curry, red curry, massaman curry, Pad Thai, Tom yum soup, satay, spicy eggplant and a few other things which are slipping my mind. The food is solid. The Pad Thai is excellent. Some places are just too greasy and lack flavor. Their version is sweet and not at all greasy. The curries are flavorful and well cooked. I love that put sweet potatoes in the massaman. Rutherford Thai has become our Friday night takeout staple. We did eat in house once but they do not serve beer or wine so we opt for take out on Fridays. It would be nice to be able to get a Singha but in small town NC that might be too much to ask. Service in the restaurant is uneven. The time we at in the service was avg but every time we have ordered take out the young lady who took the order and rang us up was pleasant and efficient. I highly recommend this spot for a little taste of Thailand in Rutherfordton! read more

I have been wanting to try this place since it opened. I've seen the great reviews and figured I'll have Thai food for the first time. My friend from England was visiting and he has had authentic Thai food many times and since it was my first, I would let him tell me how authentic it really is. It is a small place with 4 booths on each side of the room and a couple tables in the middle. There is no alcohol and their drink selection is bottled Pepsi products for $2, bottled water for $2, Sweet Thai Tea for $3 or hot tea for $3. We started with the Spring Rolls, 4 for $5.99. The crust was light and crunchy and filled with fresh ingredients. Apparently, this is another place they don't like you to sit and enjoy the food and conversation because the waiter kept coming to take our order as we waited for the spring rolls. As we were finishing the appetizer, we ordered and within 2 minutes we were served, so obviously the food is premade and just heated. I ordered the Spicy Eggplant with chicken $ 9.95, that wasn't at all spicy, My wife ordered the Red Curry with beef $10.95, it had a nice buttery taste and a little spice and my English Friend ordered the Massaman Curry with beef for $10.95. The spicing was ok and they do have a spice bowl they bring out (had to ask for it) that has chilli peppers, Tamarind sauce and a sweeter sauce. But, he says the sauce was a little watery, should have had more of a gravy consistency. All dishes come with a good size pile of white rice on the side. Overall, good food but rushed service and would really of preferred a beer or wine instead of soda. read more

The atmosphere is nice. The food is generally quite good, although there have been a couple misses, including one that included pretty bad indigestion. However, this has not stopped us from coming back, nor reoccured. Delicious thai tea and particularly love the appetizer selection, as well as the crispy duck entree. read more

Excellent find! The place was almost full for lunch, but the single server on duty kept things moving right along, and was fantastic at keeping an eye on every table. I ordered the fresh pepper with chicken and was delighted. Love this place! Drunken noodle is the best! Very friendly staff! Choose your spice wisely. You can have no spice all the way to crazy. You choose from 0-10. I get like 6 and it is pretty spicy. I ate a 10 one time just to see if I could but it was so hot I didn't personally enjoy it. Depends what you like. My wife doesn't like anything spice and loves going here because she can get something Thai but not hot. read more

Rutherford Thai...oh my! This is my current favorite place to dine! Authentic Thai food at it finest can be found down a narrow, one-way street adjacent to the Rutherford County Courthouse. I was hooked by my second trip when I got a glimpse of all the fresh produce that make its way into every delicious meal. The food was horrible, however, I understand. Food is hard to make. It should be a little easier for this place since it tasted like they opened a pack of ramen, spit in it and then spit it in my mouth. I asked the waitress, Faith Vogel, if the food always tasted like a pile of trash and she said yes. She then proceeded to kiss me on my mouth and took a picture. She said that if I told anyone how bad the food is that she would black mail me for "inappropriately touching a minor". The kiss was actually pretty good, so they are getting a two star. read more

Generous portions and reasonably priced. The server was nice but she rushed us through our meal a bit, bringing the check 10 minutes after we got our main course which was an hour before their closing time. It has been so bland and hardly any flavor at all and really disappointing with as much as it costs. Very good Thai food! Which is a little rare for small town in rural NC. I always judge a Thai restaurant by their green curry, which was quite good. They had real Thai eggplant in the curry, which is sometimes hard to find. The spring rolls and satay were excellent also. They have a bunch of interesting items on their dinner menu which I can't wait to go back and try including duck and lamb dishes. The only downside was the salad they offered was pretty standard American salad, and the only dressing options were ranch and thousand island. I would have liked to have seen a more Asian style dressing option. I definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

This by far is the best Thai restaurant I've ever encountered in the United States. The atmosphere and food instantly transported me back to Ching Mi. The food is genuine as it can get, keep in mind this does mean that some of the dishes can be spicy so be sure to ask. The service is beyond first class and they were very accommodating. The menu is full of items any foodie would salivate over as well as the standard Thai favorites we have all come to enjoy. I had the Green Curry, Drunken Noodle, and the Pad Thai, each one of these dishes were made with very fresh and authentic ingredients which the menu made a point of explaining. This is by far one of the best Thai restaurants I have ever eaten at. This includes Atlanta, San Francisco, DC, and Kansas City. I don't know why it is here in Rutherford Co., but I'm pretty happy about it. Some of it is spicy so ask your waitress first. If you have never eaten Thai before I recommend starting the the Pad Thai or the Rama. If it suits your palate, I recommend branching out into other things you've never tried. Thai food is pretty forgiving it the uninitiated. If you get a little burnt with your selection you could try to cleanse your palate with some Mango Sticky rice for desert which is both delicious and therapeutic. read more

We found Rutherford Thai on our annual trip to Linville Falls, NC to find our Christmas tree. Located in downtown Rutherfordton, it was easy to find and beautifully decorated. The Pad Thai was flavorful with generous portions and you can add additional spice to your taste. The Pad See Ew was the perfect amount and seasoned with the sweetness I look forward to when I order this dish. The broccoli and carrots were cooked to the perfect tenderness. One of our 3 favorite Thai restaurants in NC - the other two are Rearn Thai in Greensboro and Ida Thai in Carolina Beach. Even my friend who lived in Thailand for a while says the food is very authentic. We eat at Rutherford Thai at least once every time we visit Rutherfordton on vacation.
