This Thanksgiving I wanted to take a break from hosting and eat your typical Thanksgiving dinner meal. So I decided to spend my evening here. Sam my server was amazing per usual, we were seated upstairs this go around and I absolutely loved it! My table was directly across from the bar so I was able to watch all of the foot ball games. My food was at 10/10, my drinks not so much. One of the main reasons I came here is because this particular location got me hooked on their French Quarter 75's, they were SOOO good the first time around. This time not so much, it was so bitter I had to send it back. The spicy Margarita wasn't a good either. It was supposed to be spicy and I asked for it to be a fruity flavored Marg, it was just your typical margarita that was served. However the hibachis marg and the lemon drop was a 10/10. Outside of that I enjoyed my evening, and can't wait for my next go around here. I definitely recommend coming here.

Went to Ruth's Chris for a birthday dinner. Located off Jordan Creek parkway in West Des Moines, it's convenient and connected to an apartment complex. They also offer valet parking, I believe. What you'd expect for a high-end steak restaurant. Nice ambiance, low lighting, and very professional and attentive service staff. I ordered the bone-in ribeye steak. Good, not great. Had just as good, if not better elsewhere. Drinks were decent. A little in the sweeter side. Overall, great atmosphere and service. Food in my opinion, not anything special. I'd definitely go back for another special occasion, but not on my own time.

Would I go back...100%! The service was great except for a couple of things....My steak was great despite the lack of my au poivie sauce, which arrived later... (Luke warm at best). And half of our entrees came out before the others. Not to mention that that they just wanted to "turn the table"...which was abundantly obvious. Hence the lack of checking on us. Nevertheless, the place is beautiful. Definitely worth checking out but would sit in the bar next time. Btw, get your wallet but probably worth it!!

We visited Ruth's Chris for lunch during restaurant week and had a wonderful experience. Everything from the service, to the food, to the ambiance. I had the RH Burger (pictured) and my husband had the filet sliders. We also had carrot cake cupcakes and they were extremely flavorful. 10/10 experience, we will be back!

This is not medium-well, it's just medium!

I want to love Ruth's Chris but it's disappointing considering the cost. The ambience is nice, decor is cool, service is up to par, however the steaks are just good, never great. The scalloped potatoes were cheesy, but bland. The petite steak, was definitely petite. The shrimp on top were good.

This is a slightly different review than most as I'm sure the food here is excellent but I wouldn't know! My situation, however, was not. A few months ago I was dining at Ruth's Chris (for the first time ever) in their conference room for a 4-hour meeting. I got the salmon (yes, I know that was my first mistake at an upscale steakhouse- lol). One other person at my table received the salmon as well. At the same time that friend took a bite, so did I. She immmedialty pulled out a large bone from her mouth coinciding with me actually swallowing one. Apparently I was so hungry that I must have taken a decent size bite. I was not as lucky as her to be able to pull out the bone as it immediately got lodged into my throat. There was an instantaneous sharp pain in my esophagus and was extremely uncomfortable (not to mention just embarrassing). My table could clearly see I was uncomfortable as the bone was solidly lodged and was not going down. I tried drinking water to no avail. After about 15 minutes, one of the women at my table went to go inform our server of the situation. The server reported to a manager who came in and said she "spoke with the chef and even though it might be uncomfortable, it is not going to kill you". This comment was an interesting choice of words but at the moment I couldnt think of much else other than my discomfort and embarrassment. At that time, a different manager came in and was very kind as well as seemingly concerned. They ended up bringing multiple things for me to "try and dislodge the bone" including some mashed potatoes. The second manager ended up giving me his business card and told me if I needed to see the doctor, to please contact him and they would "take care of it". At that moment, that was the furthest thing from my mind as that is certainly not my style. After 2 hours of attempting to get through our meeting, I ended up having to leave and go to the ER. At this point, anytime I moved my neck ever so slightly the pain was sharp and intense! You could tell the nurses didn't quite believe me at the ER until they took the x-ray and were shocked at the size of the bone that came from the salmon. So yes, there's proof to which I did submit to company. Long story longer, I ended up having to be transported downtown by ambulance (so dramatic!) and underwent an emergency surgical endoscopy to remove the salmon bone. This affected me in multiple ways that week including having to call into work and the residual pain I experienced after the procedure. Overall extremely traumatic... Fast forward to me reaching out to the manager that same week who ended up saying he "escalated the issue to corporate" and "thanks for letting him know". I did not hear anything for multiple weeks and then received a phone call from their insurance company who took my statement. I also submitted my EOB of $18,000 for the hospital stay, transport and surgery. I just received notice that they do not believe Ruth's Chris was negligent at all and therefore will not be paying for any medical bills or for having to miss work etc. I honestly didn't know what I was expecting from them but accountability for their negligence was one thing I hoped for. (Instead of just comping the salmon I did not eat). I should also add that my colleague searched her salmon after she pulled her bone out and found MULTIPLE bones! I completely understand there's bones in fish. I eat fish all the time and have never come across a bone when properly prepared, especially the size of this one! I was hoping for some accountability and maybe even remorse from the company, but it is clear they do not care about the well being of others.

Valentine's Day reservations @4:30 we were seated with in a few minutes . The service was top notch and very friendly, the ambiance was spectacular, the food was good after we sent our steaks back to be cooked to the proper temperature. We ordered Medium and they came out Rare. Not only our table the table next to me also sent their steaks back. Even with the temperature wrong the first time, we had a wonderful experience dining here. It was very romantic and the lady at the front even was nice enough to take some beautiful pictures for me to remember

Vibes: Ruth Chris has easily become one of the hottest restaurants in the Des Moines metro. You definitely want to make your reservations at least a week in advance to secure your spot for a Friday/Saturday night. The ambiance is beyond luxurious and elegant, with the soft lighting, elegant décor, and great music. This location has an upstairs and a downstairs so plenty of seating. Definitely recommend for a special occasion or if you just want a luxurious experience. Service: Amazing. Our server was attentive and ensured we enjoyed our time. Food: The food was delicious! For an appetizer I started with the Lobster Voodoo which reminded me of rock shrimp. It was good but probably wouldn't be my top choice for an appetizer. I opted for the Filet with the sweet potato casserole, Hashbrowns, and Roasted Brussel Sprouts. The Filet just melted in my mouth, I added the BBQ butter, and it elevated the flavors perfectly. The Sweet Potato Casserole was the best side of the three, the flavors combined with the pecan crust were insane, definitely a must try. The hashbrowns were delicious as well, they were cooked with a crispy outer layer and fully loaded, they are not the best to reheat so make sure you eat them there. The Brussel sprouts had good flavor as well. Depending on how hungry you are, and the number of sides you get, the sides can be split with 2 people easily and 3 if you have more than one side. Pricing: It's Ruth Chris, lol premium pricing reflective of its upscale dining experience. Location/Parking: Located on the corner with plenty of parking and complimentary valet parking.

Complimentary valet parking. Ambiance is classic and nice. Started with a classic old fashioned that was perfectly made. I had the filet which was perfectly cooked. They need to warn you not to touch the plate for a newcomers. ‍. I paired it with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. Very complimentary combo. Finished with carrot cake and a small cheesecake. Service was top notch. Really above par. I look forward to my next visits!

Easter Crab cakes Benedict: Two tiny crab things. No muffin. No flavor. $28. Went home hungry.
    Barb D.

A very sad Easter brunch: A crab cakes Benedict which was not a Benedict with no English muffin or the menu description arugula; a crab cake which was tiny and not a crab cake with no veg and just bland shredded crab. My sister's tiny filet had no sauce. Hugely overpriced for underwhelming fare.

Ruth's Chris in West Des Moines has the best steak I have ever eaten. With its formal and fancy atmosphere, you are greeted with exceptional service as soon as you walk in the door. All of the staff was incredibly kind and helpful both in getting us to our table and helping us find the right things to eat. For those that want to, there is complimentary valet parking at the front but also plenty of parking around where you can park yourself. As far as I experienced, you can't go wrong with anything on this menu. Custom drinks and cocktails were the first thing we noticed and Their barbecue shrimp and mashed potatoes were perfect start to our meal. And then the steak was divine. Served on ~500 degree plates with sizzling butter I could have cut my steak with a fork if I wanted too. The appetizers were all delicious as well but it's hard to want anything else after having one bite of the steak. The crème brûlée, cake, and bread puddings were all great options for dessert with the crème brûlée and the cake being our personal favorites. Come prepared to pay a decent amount for this meal but know that it is worth every penny.

This was the best steak I've had at a restaurant! Got the new york strip and it was cooked to perfection! And the sweet potato casserole is literally a dessert! Sweet and tasty! Brussels sprouts were also amazing! Service was great as well, and was very welcoming! The only complaint I have is that my fiancé and I steak temperature were swapped, but it was not a big deal to us! We loved them still!

Be ready to stare at this for a while.

I've been to Ruth's Chris in other locations over the years. When you think of this restaurant, other chains also come to mind... Morton's, Flemings, Capital Grille, etc. Basically, these are chains meant for business travelers with expense accounts; overpriced, nice atmosphere/environment, and attentive service. But the recently opened Ruth's in West Des Moines, IA better get their "stuff" together soon, or they will be a memory. My wife and I decided to have a night out and try the new Ruth's. We arrived at 6:30 pm and made our way to the upstairs bar area for dinner at the bar. Very few people were up there when we arrived, but over the course of the next 30 minutes, it started filling up. "Popular place" I thought, which is cool. We were hungry, so we placed our dinner order with our order of a bottle of wine ($58 for Alexander Valley Cab; again - overpriced, but hey, you're at Ruth's Chris). We ordered two steaks with vegetable sides (broccoli and creamed spinach). The wine promptly was delivered.... the rest.... ??? For over 45 minutes, we waited for two filets (6 oz and 8 oz) to be served with our veggie sides. The bartender was doing a good job displaying his own progressive frustration with the delay; he offered the obligatory "Your entree's are on the way", then shifting to the "I'm sorry for the delay, they're working on it" apology, to finally asking another employee to check on our meals because "these people have been waiting a long time" plead. Now, for the record, I know the bartender has little to do with the food service, so this is not a criticism of him. But I will say that he could have lit a fire under the butt of his "roaming around the room doing nothing" floor manager a lot sooner. Hint to Mr. Bartender the next time this happens! So, 45-minutes after we ordered at this "high-class" supposedly great service steakhouse, we get our meals. If you live in Des Moines or have plans to come here and want a good steak, just skip this place and head downtown to 801 Chophouse on Grand. Ok... enough of the plug (even though it's accurate)... back to the review. Our steaks were baked to temperature in the masking butter that RC is known for, but nothing special. Frankly, I've been to Longhorn and had equivalent. My wife's shrimp (she order the 6 oz filet with two shrimp) were overcooked. How can you tell, you ask? If you bite into shrimp and it chews like a dog chewing on a rubber bone, you can bet that it's overcooked. Perhaps its because it was just sitting there on a scathing hot plate with a butter-sizzling steak for probably 15 minutes longer than it should... I don't know! Finally, the best part (for Ruth's Chris)... the check! After the lousy service and average at-best food, they deliver a bill for $200!! They knew we had a bad experience, and they did not even offer, let alone INSIST, on a discount. No problem, Ruth... I'll make sure plenty of potential customers know about the level of "quality" that is found here. To all others: You've been warned!

Potstickers were just okay. The dipping sauce didn't do them any favors--this felt like an easy upgrade they're missing. Imperial Egg Rolls were the biggest letdown. At $17 for three, I expected something memorable...they just weren't. Pad Thai landed squarely in "average." Grilled Honey Roast Chicken Egg Noodles was a mixed bag. The chicken itself was delicious, but the noodles were pretty bland--and oddly, they didn't really work together. Royal Fried Rice was a win. The combo of BBQ pork, sweet sausage, and shrimp came together really well. Seafood Noodle dish was unfortunately pretty bland. All in all, a few bright spots, but not a place we're rushing back to--though I'd reorder those wings without hesitation.

We were there on a Sunday so I suspect a lot of other people were taking advantage of the Sunday dinner for two like we were. We were greeted when we came in the door and the service from the time we entered until the time we left was outstanding. As we are celebrating our anniversary, our table was decorated for that which was a nice touch. We looked over the very extensive menus and did settle back in on the $99 dinner for two. In theory it is smaller portions than some of their other dishes, but there was more than enough food there for the two of us. We got the filet mignon, which was wonderfully prepared and an outstanding cut of meat. We got the 50-50 potatoes, and asked later what the 50-50 meant and discovered it's 50% potato and 50% butter and cream. They are delicious but decadent! We also got the asparagus which was very good. It had a wonderful sauce, and was tender and flavorful. We also each got the wedge salad which was almost a meal in itself. And we each got the carrot cake for dessert. We had to bring a lot of the carrot cake home because we were quite topped off at that point. The carrot cake is a slightly different twist than some, but very good nonetheless. The wine list is very good and prices are what you would expect at an establishment of this type. All in all, I would definitely go back and try some other things. If you're into oysters, they have quite a selection of those, but that's not really my jam.
