I was a loyal customer of Ryan & Company for several years and had an active maintenance contract with them, which makes this experience even more disappointing. I contacted them regarding a furnace issue that, while intermittent, was serious enough to require attention--especially during the winter months. We have a young child at home, and I made that very clear, along with my concerns about maintaining consistent heat in the house. Their technicians came out multiple times and were unable to diagnose or fix the problem. After several unsuccessful visits, the owner got involved. Initially, he was professional and appeared committed to resolving the issue. However, once it became clear that they couldn't fix the problem, everything changed. Communication completely stopped. No follow-ups. No updates. No accountability. During this time, we repeatedly expressed serious concerns--not just about comfort, but about safety. We were dealing with unreliable heat in the middle of winter, had a young child at home, and even communicated concerns about our pipes potentially freezing while we were away on vacation. Despite this, we were essentially given the runaround and the issue remained unresolved. It's also important to note that the manufacturer was only brought in after we specifically requested it, following multiple unsuccessful service visits by their technicians and the owner. Ultimately, the problem was not fixed by Ryan & Company, but only after the manufacturer became directly involved. That distinction matters. Despite having an active maintenance contract, they stopped sending technicians altogether. The owner refused to speak with me directly to address the situation. Instead of standing behind their service or working toward a resolution, the contract was canceled and a check was mailed for the remaining balance--without any meaningful discussion. To be clear, that cancellation came after repeated failed repair attempts, lack of resolution, and a complete breakdown in communication--not as some isolated or voluntary request. I also strongly disagree with their claim that I was "verbally abusive." Like any homeowner dealing with an ongoing heating issue in the winter--with a child in the home and legitimate concerns about frozen pipes--I was understandably frustrated. Expressing that frustration does not equate to abuse. What's most concerning is the lack of accountability and the way this situation was handled once it became difficult. After years of being a paying customer, this is how they chose to respond. If a company can't fix a problem, that's one thing. But abandoning a long-time customer, cutting off communication, and deflecting blame is unacceptable. Do not try to schedule an appointment with this company. They do not know how to communicate with customers and are downright arrogant.

Scheduled an appointment just for regular boiler maintenance and they booked me for the next week. I got a call a couple days later that they had finished up a job early and could come now if I was free which I really appreciated. Rich showed up 30 minutes later and did a very thorough maintenance explaining everything as he went. He answered all of the beginner-homeowner questions I had. He even found a small gas leak and fixed it right up. Seemed very honest about what might be worth repairing versus what wouldn't be. I never felt like I was being upsold or anything like that. Great service, very friendly and helpful. Fingers crossed I don't need to call for any major repairs, but I think I'll be in good hands if I do. read more

Steer clear. Quoted a price, when they were leaving, without fixing the problem, the charges were twice the estimate. The plumber wanted to cut open a custom living room cabinet to diagnose but we would not allow. Turned out it was a simple leak in a gasket for the tub trip lever. Called for service on an oil furnace. Was told tech would be to the house in 30 min. called after 60 min and was told he ran into traffic, understandable. Tech arrives goes to look at furnace pushes button and says it is not working. Tech gets on phone and proceeds to go out to his truck to "price out parts needed". Tech comes back in and says "We don't do maintenance on oil furnaces". "I will only bill you for a service call $82." When I questioned the charges I was informed it costs that much to send a fully stocked truck out to the house and they were not aware it was an oil burning furnace. Called a competitor they came and bled the line from tank to furnace, no parts needed in a matter of minutes. Companies should know they are only as good as their last service call! read more

Customer since 2016. Technicians are great. Typically my experience has been 5 stars as I love(d) the responsiveness and that they send you a photo of the person showing up. Today, totally different story. I had a genuine concern and the woman on the phone for Service/Customer Support was incredibly combative. She refused to slow down and hear me out when I was actually saying the same thing she was. She really didn't care about the direction the call was taking and it was obvious she was standing firm on a useless argument. I'm no huge customer, but I am/was supporting a local business since 2016; today's encounter not only makes me hesitant to ever use them again, but moreover hesitant to endorse to neighbors and friends. Update: 3/5 stars (original was 4/5 stars) We had a forced air humidifier put in through Ryan Ryan's prices were competitive (not cheap, not expensive). The technician who did the work: Brian Unit: April Air 600 (manual set, not automatic) Overall the work was good. It was put in on 12.2016. The only issue is they had to fix it twice now, once raj year. The first time was 12.2017. It was minor issue with the line being clogged. They blew it out and all was good. Now I also check it more often just to make sure it stays that way. This may not have been preventable, I'm not sure. Ryan charged @$80 for the visit. The second time was the selonoid failed. It automatically stops / allows water to pass to the filter, and only does it when the furnace is on. It stopped all water from coming out. Ryan charged @$80 for the visit. They wanted @$290 to replace it. I felt that was too expensive and that part broke only after 2 years? seems pretty early. I called another company, they replaced it for $160, and said it looked old. They showed me how a new one has a few things that make it better. Given it has only been 2 years, that doesn't sounds right. I didn't call Ryan about this or complain a lot. But I still feel like they should warranty something if it breaks within 3 years. Or just charge for parts or something. A small platoon of Ryan's army renovated the vent and drain for my kitchen, replacing old grody galvanized pipe that had nearly closed inside with all modern PVC. They also pulled out the big old clog-prone cast-iron trap, again PVC to the rescue. Let's just say the isht is flowing freely now! The two men in this crew were unfailingly polite, listened to what I requested exactly as far as routing the pipe and patching the roof, did a very professional job, and even made truly serious attempts at cleaning up after themselves lol. The boss Kevin Ryan stopped by from time to time but left the work to the big dudes, clad uniformly in khaki work pants and dark shirts. They're a first class operation, down to the shiny truck stocked with everything you might imagine. Should you hire a plumber who drives a beemer? Well I was mostly trying to hire locally, and was exceptionally glad to see all the work done quickly, it's a little dicey when you can't flush! Of course there was a big bill at the end. At these hourly rates I just can't gjve 5 stars, sorry. read more

I use Yelp almost daily when searching for services and this is the first time I've felt compelled to leave a review. It is rare that a service provider exceeds your expectations. I've used Ryan & Co. three times now, and every single time they are more prompt, more courteous, more professional than I could possibly anticipate. We bought an old house with radiators, baseboard, and electric heat. I've always used forced heat in the past and have never had a boiler. So I have a lot to learn. Ryan & Co. came out three times - once because the boiler was too full, another time to improve the performance of my radiators, and finally a late-night emergency visit for a burst pipe. Erin is always really nice on the phone, even when I have a lot of questions. I spoke with Kevin recently during my after hours emergency call, and he also was really nice. I had water pouring out of my wall and ceiling and he helped find the water shutoff valve for the house, saving me a lot of water damage. They had a technician out to me in about 20 minutes. Rich has been my technician for almost all of the work and he is one of the nicest guys I've ever met. He is methodical and thorough and he explains everything he's doing in a way that I can understand. I've had many, many questions and he always answers them patiently and with kindness. Ryan and Co. has taught me more about my home than I've learned through any other means. Beyond the work that they've done, this knowledge will help me care for and enjoy my home and for that I am very grateful. Their prices have been quite reasonable - $300 for the after-hours call to stop the leaking pipe (still have to schedule the repair), $1100 for a full days work adjusting and repairing 10 radiators. Decent service for certain things, but every time they work on a toilet, there's some kind of problem. Last time they replaced the handle on a Toto and it was wobbly. Today they changed a small rubber gasket on the bottom of the tank. It took five minutes. The part was worth about 50 cents. They wanted $215!!! I could have replaced the whole toilet for that. Too pricey. They have flat rates instead of t&m. Bad business model. read more

I was not happy with the service that Ryan Plumbing of Morristown did on my bathtub leaking faucet. In Nov of 2022 they came to fix a faucet leak in my bathtub. It started leaking again in March 2023(4 months later). I had a warranty on the work however when I tried to schedule the warranty work with them they put me on low priority and couldn't schedule me until 3 weeks later. After the leak started to get progressively worse called them on a Saturday for an emergency visit which the warranty would not have covered the immergency fee. Upon calling I was first told that they could come that day but then after I reminded them that it was warranty work they changed their mind and said they had no plumbers available and I would have to wait to Monday. Fast forward I had to pay for another plumber who advised me that the previous parts installed were not the correct parts. The new plumber( who fixed the leak with the correct parts) charged we a total of $679.00 which included a $150.00 emergency fee. I will not be using Ryan Plumbing again. read more

They were also able to provide lead-time information during the quotation process, which was not available from the other bidders. Couldn't be more pleased with my experience. Had leaks in the bathroom going down into the ceiling of the kitchen from a bad contractor who remodeled the bathroom. Called Ryan & Company to come take a look and the owner Bill came to take a look later that day. Sent out his technician Brandon, who was at our house at 8 AM the next morning to do the repairs. After fixing the leaking shower, we decided he should check the toilet and sink as well to be safe. Sure enough they both had leaks as well, Brandon was able to fix all three leaks very quickly and even did some extra caulking to enhance the appearance. Any other plumbing service - even 24 hour emergency service has far more reasonable pricing. I learned the hard way by getting two hugely overpriced services for just very minor repairs. Last night, my steam boiler started running rough and giving off an odd odor, something other than a natural gas smell. After another company failed to find the problem first thing this morning and told me my chimney was likely blocked, I called Ryan and Co. after verifying myself that the chimney was clear. They came within a few hours and advised that the boiler flue passages were clogged and needed a cleaning. A few hours later, everything is working great again. Just had my third service with these guys and once again everything was excellent and really felt compelled to leave a review. Having bought a house that needed a good deal of work done I have been dealing with awful contractors for close to two years now. This company is a breath of fresh air. Whenever I call the receptionist is super friendly, the guys who come are always on time, friendly and get what they need to accomplish in a short time. I changed my propane grill to gas but after hooking up the hose and regulator there was no gas coming into the grill. I checked all the valves and they were in the "on" position. I did a google search and found Ryan. I called on a Thursday and they scheduled me for Monday. The gentleman came out, he checked the grill and saw it was not igniting he removed the hose connector on the Gas pipe and we saw that gas was coming out. I informed him that I also had a newer connector and he said "let's try that" He put it on and low and behold we were able to ignite the grill. Job well done my only complaint is that he was there for all of 15 minutes and I supplied the part that fixed the problem and I was charged $236. read more

In response to Mr. Kevin Ryans response to my unfavorable review of his service...kevin was not present. And if the phone conversation was truly recorded by Erin, then it will be proof that she called me and started screaming at me. She should be trained on how to deal with an unjappy customer (which happens in this business) rather than to call them and start scteaming and threatening them with legal action. Bad. Very bad business practice. and your technician did NOT tell me what was wrong with the water heater and did NOT give me quote prior to making a repair. He just did it and wanted to cjarge me $300. He gave me an ultimatum, I coul purchase a service agreement for $275 or pay the $300. I dont want the contract and he was not happy about it. He brought it down to $160. Then he said ill be rightback and left eithout saying why. After more than 20 minutes, I went to the van and gave him the check and told him I dont like the eay you do business. When I did not have hot water, I called Erin later the same day, and she said she would check with the techs to see when they can get the part that needed replacement. In the morning at around 10 am I called..No answer..left message. Called again.. No answer. Several hours later.. Called again. Left message that if I did not get called back I would put a stop payment on check. BINGO! She called me immediately, screaming at me, that I had threatened her, accusing me of everything in the book. I was forced to yell over her screaming words. And yes, I cursed. No heat for 5 days and this is what I get. I hung up on her. She called me back, left a message, threatening to take action through her attorney. I called back, left message that not to threaten me and that because she has caused me so much aggravation, mt blood pressure went sky high, I had to call my doctor and take an extra bp pill to bring it down, I told her I am putting a stop payment on the check. And by the way, your technician had an attitude problem, he was nasty, rude, defiant and uncooperative.. I called another company today, they are coming tomorrow to repair the problem. The woman on the phone was kind, sympathetic and professionall in her manner of speaking. I have never dealt with people like Erin snd your tech before. Never had a problem. You should correct them, not me. I will send you a money order for the $49 that I agreed to pay when I made the appointment. But I will not pay you for anything else because I have to pay someone else to do what you should have done, when I called back to inform your office manager that I still had no hot water. Thoroughly impressed with Ryan & Co. Upon return from a weekend away, our furnace was out, it was cold. I called Monday morning, and they were able to get me in on the day of the call. The tech actually showed up about 5 minutes early... which, is generally unheard of. A quick assessment, explaining what he was doing the whole time, the removal of an unfortunate mouse caught in the exhaust fan, an assessment of damage (none), a reset of the system and voila... we're off. Plus, I had some wire mesh that he used to put little blocks on the input/output, helped change the humidifier as well as whole house filter, gave a few pointers, and was on his way. Definitely the easiest and most helpful HVAC experience I've ever had. Oh, and was able to take a credit card and write up a detailed receipt that was automatically emailed to me... which anyone using tradesmen knows it's normally and old school check exchanging hands, this is just another added bonus. read more

We had a disappointing experience. The plumber was very friendly, but did not totally fix our issues on first visit. When called for a second visit, he finished the repairs and didn't think we would be charged. A week later a bill arrived. When we called office staff to challenge the bill... we were laughed at. Communication should have been better at time of service, as well as over the phone. We understand the reasons for the billing, but felt taken advantage of and not valued as customers. read more
