I brought my car in for Audi 50k mile maintenance last September. The service was performed but I was told I needed brakes immediately!! I brought my car to a local business to check on the brakes and they charged me $80 and said my brakes were in great condition. Since September 2024 I brought my car to 2 different Audi dealers and neither one said I needed brakes (the last check was Friday 8/22) They lost a customer I'll never go back again. read more

Brought my 74 VW van in to Ryan due to lack of power. He wrote a quote "to remove mouse nests" from the engine for a quote of $1,700. Broke down on the way home after 2 months in the shop. Towed back to to the shop 2 more times. Each time adding more to the bill getting the total up to almost $5,000. Still runs like crap. Finally brought to John's auto repair in Westfield where he had it for 1 day and was able to diagnose the problem as low compression. Vehicle running on 2 1/2 cylinders. Went to small claims court with this "hack" and his defense was to lie! I am guilty of continuing to pay his bills and trust him. He is thoroughly incompetent. Read his reviews! Majestrate kept saying there was no actual statement saying he was to reconditioned the engine. WHY THE HELL DO YOU THINK IT WAS THERE.! Did I not have a reasonable expectation that I would get back a vehicle in good running condition after all he did with the doubling of the original estimate. STAY AWAY!!!! read more

My Infinity had a leak in its power steering rack and was in need of replacing. With the nearest dealer in Hartford I was told about Ryan Imports located in Northampton. I called and spoke to Joe and made an appointment to drop it off. A small shop nearly hidden located next to the parking garage I dropped it off with Joe who turned out to be Joe Ryan, the owner. I explained the problem and Joe said he would give it a look and get back to me with an estimate. Sure enough Joe called with an estimate and explained the power steering rack was available only through the dealer. I was given an estimate and an idea when it would be ready. Sure enough on the day promised my car was ready. The cost was $400 less than the estimate! My experience with Joe at Ryan imported car was five star. I wouldn't hesitate to take my Infinity back. I called them the Monday after Thanksgiving because my car started making horrible noises over the weekend. They got me sorted out in a couple days at a reasonable price. I am extremely happy with the quality of service and believe their pricing was fair for the quality offered. I will be returning here for future major work on my Volkswagen. read more

They are not transparent about the full cost of the work being done. They do not include labor when they quote a price. When I went to pick up my car, it wasn't there, the owner had taken it to run an errand to CVS and was stuck in traffic. When he returned ( cvs bag in hand) he apologized and said my car was blocking the back door so he had to take it to run an errand. I told him I was not comfortable with him taking my car , and he said " at least I was honest". I called back to complain and Peter at the front desk was patronizing and lacked accountability. Don't ever buy a used car from this man. Bought a 2005 Prius, fairly low mileage, from Ryan Repair 2 years and 9 months ago for $7800. Continued battery/electrical issues ongoing since only EIGHT DAYS after purchase, which Joe was unable to diagnose ("maybe you left the window open" - is that even a thing?) -. Had to be towed several times. Spent a small fortune on unsuccessful unnecessary repairs. Finally After over 3 weeks with a dead LEMONcar sitting in Joe's garage, he jumped at my offer to sell back him for $3k. Should have asked for more. read more

Worked on my daughters car and did a nice job. Prices are very reasonable and affordable.

They can do the job but are careless. They broke my head lamp socket while repairing engine problem. Then they found all excuses to avoid fix the socket. Besides they left a mirror in my engine compartment. I won't go back to this shop for any repair. read more

I went to Ryan import to have my oil changed and check the car out it also had a check engine light 2012 BMW X5 35000 mi oil change went well they the sales pitch tires / brakes / that would have been 2000$ I passed the check engine light was an emissions def tank module another 900$ so I called BMW hmmm under warranty 10yr 120000 miles Ryan never checked glad I did oh ya told me they just did one poor guy got screwed by the way the oil change 220$ yup so I got screwed to all set with Ryan read more

Ryan Imported kept our car for a week, fixed nothing, and charged us $300. When we first brought it in, they sounded like they'd be able to take care of it right away. They kept promising to call us back with a diagnosis "that afternoon". No calls. We'd follow up the next day and they kept tell us vague things like "it's running like crap" and "it could be the coils." After blowing our planned date to leave town, which they had originally said would be no problem, finally when we called one day they said, "its ready, come pick it up." $300 later, they sent us off into a snowstorm, with a baby in the car, with all the same problems the had when we brought it in. These people are either seriously incompetent or serious cheats. read more

They did a good job with my car. I came in for a tire assembly. The job was done neatly and quickly. The mechanic wasn't too much of a nice guy, but the owner was flexible and attentive. All in all, a good place to bring your car for small/quick repairs in the area. read more

I have gone to Ryan's for many things and always been happy with their service. Yesterday I went with a flat tire, found out that I needed to have my tire pressure monitor replaced, and they got the job done on the spot in two hours. I was nervous that it would not be done in time as I needed to pick up my partner from work, but they got it done so quickly, were very courteous in explaining what was happening, and it cost me $200. Perhaps other places would have been cheaper, but I think it is worth the price because: 1. They are always honest with me about what is wrong with the car, what the best option is and what it will cost, and 2) They get things done SO quickly! 3. Whenever I have gone in, John's been the one behind the desk. He is very friendly and helpful, which seems a rarity in the car mechanic world. read more

I know Joe Ryan. I used his repair shop years ago. I felt him to be trustworthy. Then he was down in Florida and had his kids run the garage. I spent a lot of money there when Joe was gone, All of a sudden I began to have a lot of things going wrong with my car. I forked over a lot of money and those boys of his were arrogant wise talking and I started to get the distinct feeling I was getting jobbed and over-charged. I even strongly suspect that I was billed for work that was never done. I paid a lot of money when I had a transmission flush done that Joe's son said was the "best around" done on a hi-tech special system. A few months later when I had my oil changed the place that does my oil changes said my transmission fluid was dirty...I saw the stuff they drew out of my transmission and it was no where near what a cleaned and flushed transmission should have looked like. I never went back to Ryan Imports again. I didn't stir it up for Joe...I just let my disappearance do the talking. I later heard he'd fired his boys, and thought that a sign he'd taken back the operation and would restore it's integrity, because he didn't fire those kids because of what I said they did to me, so he must have heard from a lot of other unhappy customers. This spring I was looking at used cars and bumped into Joe Ryan, asked him if he had any "good used cars for sale" he said "I've got just the car for you"...well let me just say this...Joe advertizes that he knows your car...but he didn't even know his own...because he sold me a car with a blown head gasket...he won't accept responsibility and help me get it fixed right.. the guy screwed me. On top of the head gasket the exhaust system sagged and the muffler was damaged as a result. I wired it up to keep it from dragging and there was not one single 'hanger' holding the exhaust system up. Nobody...not Joe, not his staff, looked at that car before he sold it to me. He flipped it onto me and probably made a bundle. Now I'm stuck with a dead duck of a car. I know I will never do business again with Ryan Imports, and wish I'd seen the two other reviews here before I bought the lemon I just know he knows he sold me. He treated my like crap when I brought it in. No calls and then when I did get hold of him he wouldn't give me the time of day. Blew me off and was downright nasty to me. read more
