I do most of my own basic car repair, but some services require expert mechanics and equipment. I was happy to find Zbylut when I needed such work. I intend to keep this car as long as possible and proper mechanical work is critical to that. In both recent repairs, not only was the targeted job done efficiently, additional important repairs were identified and fully discussed and I was happy to get them done cost-effectively while they were accessible due to the primary repair. I understand cars well and these were items I absolute wanted fixed when they were identified and I also appreciated examining the "close to failing" parts after the work was done. Churn City. No matter how routine the service asked, Zbylut will find thousands in "needed" repairs. Gave them the benefit of the doubt through the years until I wised up. Try $9000 in the past twelve months which makes me a prize chump. No matter how minor an item, such as a windshield wiper replacement, you will be charged an hour or half hour's labor at $150 an hour. Avoid unless you absolutely can't. read more

I could not believe in today's day of Google people would try to misquote the price of parts this eggregiously. I towed my vehicle 150 miles to get away. This business is not to be trusted. I wish I had read the Yelp reviews before. In December, I brought my just purchased 2019 Mini Countryman for a routine 10,000 mile service appointment and was shocked the next day by a bill for over $800. The owner gave a song and dance about the increased costs of maintaining my car, but I was horrified. The labor charge of $150 hour was over the top, the car was in good shape and there was nothing that would warrant that size of a bill. Since then, I have heard other horror stories about the owner, his arrogance and dishonesty. Stay away from this business--they have no integrity and the overcharges appear to be standard practice from all the reviews. read more

Zbylut Motor Works is absolutely great! While visiting friends in the valley area a rock damaged the radiator and underside of my Audi A5 on a Friday night. I had to get back home to work and so needed to remotely AAA my car to a local mechanic who could properly examine the damage, come up with a plan and get my car back to perfect condition. Luke came highly recommended. Once I had the car transported to his shop he was able to examine the damage, come up with a reasonable quote and get the car repaired perfectly. He was also able to recommend a local body shop to take care of the external damaged parts and repairs (Fort Hill Collision Services, also in Amherst,) and worked with them to get everything sorted out. Communications with Luke was excellent and I'm incredibly grateful that I was able to locate a skilled mechanic who knew what he was doing. The price was absolutely reasonable, and more importantly I was able to trust that my car would be taken care of. Definitely a very good experience. read more

I have nothing but good things to say about Zbylut Motor Works. I came in for a service and some other repairs, and Luke was attentive and thorough every step of the way. He was always upfront about prices and was good about calling with updates and to check if I wanted this or that done. He also presented me with options to bring repair costs down, and even brought me into the garage to show me exactly what needed to be fixed on my car so that I could make informed choices on the repairs that I wanted done. Also, I really appreciate that even though I am a woman and brought my boyfriend with me to the appointment, Luke spoke directly to me instead of to my boyfriend. Most mechanics that I visited automatically overlooked me and spoke only to my boyfriend even though it was my car. My 2012 Beetle check engine light went off and thought just need to fix a sensor or simple thing. Luke helped me realize the overall needs of my car and helped it run like new again including new wipers which work like a charm compared to the old. He took the time to explain the brake work needed showing me another car with a similar issue and the parts needed. He even gave me a ride through snowy weather to get near home again. Our car, Audi A6, was in a car accident in the nearby mall parking lot. I was away on business as my wife called me up in tears and unsure about what to do. I called Luke and within 5 minutes he appeared at the site, assessed the situation, transported the vehicle, my wife and child to his shop and by the time I was able to make it back from Hartford the vehicle was assessed. It ended up being totaled by the insurance but because we have just recently fixed a number of things I ended up having him fix it again. It would be too much to list all individual items here but let me say that following: The communication with the shop is exceptional. While being fixed I got a status update with approximate cost, progress, and what could be resolved while repairing something else to save cost. The shop is always busy with customers that I have witnessed being treated courteously. And when I was told the car would be ready by a particular date and time it was. I have recommended this place to others who were also satisfied and will continue to do so. read more

YOU WANT TO READ THIS BEFORE YOU TAKE YOUR CAR HERE So....seven months later and I had all but forgotten about the hell I went through with these careless morons. I have a Mercedes. but my driver side wheel just started shaking/wobbling when i went around curves and so a trip to the mechanic was in order (thankfully I was in my NJ hometown and could go to real mechanics). My bushings were going (no surprise) but also....my rotors are "cupped". ZBYLUT had put in new rotors for me (I might add without getting my permission first) seven months ago. why would new rotors be cupped?! They aren't the right size. WHAT KIND OF "mercedes specialist" GETS THE WRONG SIZE ROTORS?! but if that wasn't enough for you to stop reading and never go to this place let me tell you more about June for me. My alternator pulley cracked. Then the belt disintegrated. it supports the serpentine/supercharger belt so that fell off its place and hit two coolant lines. It was terrifying. I was up at school in MA so i looked up this place and had it towed there. They replaced my alternator and belts and lines just fine (to my knowledge so far...in a few months I may have another breakdown!) but they called me and told me the car needed new pads and rotors and a few other things. I told them to hold off; I wasn't ready to spend that money. I went to pick it up to find that they had done all the extraneous work. And I couldn't have the car until I paid for it. I drove my car off the lot and found my shade on my moonroof open. It was cold and rainy on that day so I closed it. it only moved in inch increments but i thought nothing of it. it rained for 3 days and i never drove. On friday at around 7pm I walked by my car for the first time in sunlight. Low and behold: a quarter sized puncture in my hood paint that had radiating cracks out around it. the paint had flexed up from the car because the rain had gotten in and pushed it up. I call Luke (the owner) and he says he has no idea. By the time I bring it in I've also noticed that the moonroof still moves in increments then just stops working and makes a terrible grinding sound. I get it to him and he says oh right we can fix your sunroof easy because we disconnected the battery. He hears the noise and says he'll have to open the whole thing to see what's wrong. also "I can't prove" he made the dent on my hood. "it could have been there for a long time"....wouldn't there be rust in it if it had been there for a while?! He left a tool on my engine and then slammed the hood closed. He knows it, too. Told me it'd be 400 for a new paint job. I said no. he will look at my sunroof though. I thought for free because of what they had done (not reset it). we make an appointment for first thing on monday. he says he'll call me when it's ready in a few hours. I finally call him friday at 2pm and "they are just getting it closed up" i say okay well i can pick it up tomorrow. he won't be there. I say lock the keys in and I'll bring a spare. he then informs me that i owe him a bill. and it'll be 3k to fix my sunroof. I finally look up my symptoms on benz forums. I find the exact conditions and it's a very simple fix of de-gumming the motor (and the problem 9/10x starts when you move an unreset roof). When I come in for the car he says that's wrong and my parts are broken. I need a new roof. But look! he's touched up my hood and even put on clear coat. what an angel. (it's the shittiest touch up job ever btw; it looked better with the dent) I again pay his ridiculous bill and take my baby away hoping to just never go back. but fate had us intertwined for longer. I'm driving a few days later and i notice there is pressure on my head....i look up and my driver's handle thing (you know, above the door) IS HANGING OFF. it's not attached on one side. AT ALL. there are friends in my back seat and they find a tool just sitting in the bottom of my back seat. (oh and their dresses got ruined by all the grease left on my back seat). again I go back. and luke is so overjoyed to see his missing tool that he'll order the missing handle part (that he lost) and fix the handle for free (this time i ask straight out). So i have to go back and get it fixed 2 weeks later. oh and now he knows how to fix the sunroof easy because he had to do it to a car he was selling. IT'S EXACTLY WHAT I TOLD HIM TO DO. and i should come in and have it done...for free? no. it's $75. and it will only do the front roof not the back..why? because he removed a bunch of the back sunroof pieces saying they were broken. so now that i've been back umpteen times I'll have to return to duke it out about my rotors (oh btw i thought they looked the wrong size and they had rust on them the day i picked it up but luke said i had no idea what i was talking about). I'm not a mechanic....but apparently I'm better than they are. long story short: it'll take me thousands of dollars to return my car to the way it was. =[ read more

These guys are super nice and took care of my TDI Jetta's timing belt for a couple hundred less than the dealership could (no other Volkswagen place would touch it because this Jetta was never sold in MA - bought mine in AZ). Six months later I had "low coolant" and I stopped in their quick - turned out that temperature change had dropped it just enough to give me a warning, so they just took out their coolant (expensive stuff!) and topped me off - no charge. Since I work at UMass, it was super convenient and they gave me a ride to campus and back. read more

I've had Zyblut Motors work on my Porsche Cayenne twice in the last year. Each time they work was done correctly, on-time and within budget. Zyblut even found a couple of items that the Porsche Dealership had missed at the last service and corrected both of them. If you need service for your German made auto...give Zyblut a try. I am a student in Amherst MA and my car recently broke down. I rely on my car to get to school, work, and to get back to hometown. My car broke down so I called AAA, and the driver could tell that the issue was most probably an electrical problem as the car would not jump start. I chose to tow the car to Zbylut Motor Works at 398 Northampton Rd in Amherst MA. Luke, the owner, overcharged on the work that he did. After being charged $450 to be exact, my car broke down one day later. Luke had told me to drive everyday so that the battery recharges and hides the real problem with the car. My car has been in great shape considering its age (2003) and work I have put into it. Luke chose to replace the battery without confirming, after I specifically asked him to call me before replacing anything. The old battery was less than a year old (it had been replaced February 2021). My car broke down the next day after Luke had charged me $450 for 2 hours of labor, and a new battery which generally takes 20 minutes to replace. read more

Daughter had her timing belt go while visiting friends in Amherst. The owner Luke was a class act. He gave us a quick eval and was honest in the prognosis. Was absolutely understanding, very easy to talk to and prompt in communications. He was kind enough in our dismal situation and allowed us to keep the vehicle for a few extra days on his lot to settle how to get rid of the vehicle. Sometimes it is not how they treat you while fixing your car but also how they treat you when they can't. I'd totally go back to them for any car related issue. read more

I have a 2005 Mercedes-Benz C240 4MATIC and the schedule A maintenance alarm had been going off for almost a month. I took it to Wagner Motors in Shrewsbury because I had a coupon for service. I was not impressed with their prices and diagnosis of my vehicle. So I did a search and found Zyblut Motor Works. I was skeptical at first because of one one of the reviews. Anyways, I figured I would have some minor maintenance done to see how they were. The owner gave me quotes that were considerable less that that of the dealership. I set up an appt to have them do a brake flush and a transfer case flush. When I got there I was put on hold for a bit and I became a tad upset. They did a inspection (at no cost). They too discovered the rear brakes require replacing as had been noted by the dealership. They discovered some other minor issues that the dealership did not find. I was skeptical about how accurate this assessment was (leaking engine mounts and transmission mount, cracked brake hoses and loose pulleys and idlers; none of which I was shown). They owner recommended that I do not a brake flush until I did a brake replacement which was logical and I was very appreciative of. They said they would replace my window regulator even though I had ordered the part as long as it was a quality OEM part. The transfer case flush took about 1.5 hours and what I paid was almost exactly what I was quoted. While I was waiting I spoke with the owner and gained maintenance info pertaining to my car. All in all, I was pleased with the service. It did not start out well but it is a small operation. I will bring my vehicle back to have the window repaired but prob take the car elsewhere to have the brake work done. A 3.5 if they allowed half stars. read more

I had set up an appointment with Zbylut and they told me I had to wait for 6 days. Not only that, but the guy on the phone was curt and seemed bothered by my call. This concerned me so I tried another mechanic as I had never been to Zbylut. The other independent mechanic was professional and courteous and has been in business over 30 years. When I called Zbylut back to cancel my appointment, the guy on the other end stated, "this is the last appointment you will make with us." He did not ask any questions or say anything else. If that's your attitude, you can keep it. I could not be more pleased that I did not take my car here. The reviewer from NJ must have spoken to the same guy I did. Unreal. read more

Back in 2004 we bought our first new car, a 2004 BMW 325xi, we enjoyed the car for 14 years, following all recommended service and the occasional replacement of parts that wear out. Last fall we gave the car to our son so he could get around at college. The car worked well for several months but last monday he called and said there was steam coming out from under the hood and looking at it noticed that the clamp to the radiator hose had failed. He didn't know where to have it fixed so I looked on the internet I found Zbylut Motor Works and read the reviews, I called and talked to the owner, his name is Luke. To get the car to the shop my son asked his grandpa for help, they bought a clamp to tighten one of the hoses as a temporary fix so he could drive it to the shop. After Luke inspected the car, he emailed us a list/condition report. The years had caught up with the car and many parts composed of rubber had perished and needed replacement. It was a bit of a shock to learn that so much work needed to be done and my husband was away so I asked a lot of questions and Luke took his time and explained to me so I could understand what needed to be done. He recommended what needed to be done versus what should be done so my son can drive safely and I can decide what to do with the rest later. After I texted/emails and talk to him I decided to have all the works done there. I never met him but I feel like I can trust him with my son car. He's very patience, very nice and very easy to talk to. Oh, and the charges are fair too. After my son picked up the car, he said "it drives smooth as butter" that pretty much says it all and I now have peace of mind that he's driving a safe and reliable vehicle.
