They gave us a bid, scheduled a time to come and trim our tree, then did not show up. When I called, they said we weren't ever on the schedule and now could not get on the schedule for another five weeks, despite the fact that we had been told we were on the schedule. They might do the greatest job in the world when they show up, but this is their fault and they have no interest in making it right. read more

Had our tree serviced today. 3 guys came in and did a great job! Our tree looks so much cleaner than it was. No loose or dead branches hanging around anymore. I called Ryan Lawn and Tree to winterize my lawn last winter. Bob Prudenz was my service person. As far as I could tell, all he did was turn off the water to my system. I was surprised that he did not take down my back flow device, as I had been previously instructed to do. He told me that it was not necessary. This summer, I had him come back out to do a tune up and turn my system back on in August. He made a few minor sprinkler head repairs, and told me that's things were good to go. To my surprise, about 2 weeks later, I came home to find water gushing out from my back flow device. The water made a small pond and leaked into my basement -- I never had this even with the ridiculously wet spring and summer we had this year. I asked them to check my back flow device. And he did, but he charged me $86 to tell me know that my device was working normally -- but he recommended some repairs ($300-$600) because the rubber components were slightly cracked (from freezing in the winter?). Sorry, but 25000 gallons (I know from my water bill) gushing out of a backflow device is not normal! But I believed him at the time, when he told me that my system was back up and running -- except my grass kept dying throughout the last couple of months. The last straw was today. I got a call from my neighbors that my sprinklers had been on nonstop all day since 630 in the morning. I work hard. I prefer to not have to worry about my lawn, which is why I am willing to pay extra for knowledgeable and dependable service. Ryan lawn and Tree let me down -- a half dead lawn and hundreds of dollars in wasted water. I will never hire these people again. Buyer beware!! read more

I have used Ryan Lawn and Tree for fertilizer, weed control and tree pruning. Very professional and not cheap but reasonable prices. I can't say the same thing for their irrigation services. I have felt their past sprinkler services were expensive. Recently the pump that pumps water from my neighborhood lake to my sprinkler system failed. The estimate to repair was $1450. I had another landscape service replace it for $550. I won't be using their irrigation/sprinkler services again. read more

It's a sad day when you realize your favorite birch tree did not survive the drought of last summer. No matter how much I hoped to see a sign of life in that tree there was none; it was never coming back. Ryan Lawn and Tree saved me from continued sadness of seeing that poor dead tree outside my kitchen window. Jason, Mike, and Cullen cut the tree down and took it away. I hope it will become mulch and have a second "life" in another form. These guys are professionals, they SMILE, they speak with kindness, and they are great representatives of their company. I called Ryan at the recommendation of our regular tree service to get a 2nd opinion on a sick locust tree. I got a response quickly and David came out to look at the tree. Unfortunately, he was unable to provide any good news. However, he did level with me that the tree cannot be helped and will likely die in the future. He also gave me similar info about another ailing ash tree. Other services have shown up unsolicited and told me they could sell treatments to save the trees. Even though that is not the case. I appreciated the honest, helpful info and will definitely call upon them in the future. read more

I just built my dream house and had a sprinkler system put in by Ryan Lawn. The communication with Bryan, the sprinkler expert who took care of us, has always been excellent. The system still needs fine tuning and my lawn is nowhere near to where I want it to be, but it is summer and it was laid out last December. The 4-stars is based on all the timely communication and professionalism shown by all the employees I've had contact with so far - I will probably update this review once fall rolls around and my lawn recuperates from the sprinkler install. read more

I was absolutely displeased! I subbed Ryan's on an irrigation repair after our company put in a drainage system for one of my clients. The repair was under parr to begin with. They didn't use any junction boxes for the wiring junctions and up-charged my material almost 300%. My total bill for some wiring junctions, 200 ft of wire and two hours labor was over $700. Insane!!!!! If that was bad enough they sent the bill directly to my customer after being clearly told to bill my company. I finally got a bill and was shocked at the charge. I called my field tech and explained my situation. He made it clear not to pay that bill and he would get things straightened out and lowered. Months go by, they keep billing my customer I keep calling the office and my tech and it just gets worse. My customer finally threatens to take me to court and Ryan's finally gets their act together and mails me a somewhat more reasonable bill. We finally get our bill some 4 months later pay it and today I write the review. Awful service, bad communication and horrible rate! Very displeased. I'm already sharing the story with the other landscaper around. We won't use Ryan's again. read more

I hired Ryans lawn and tree to spray my blue spruces for needle cast. I had a hard time getting them to come out in April and May. The sprays are very time sensitive. When they finally agreed, they were not able to come in when I was home. They sprayed diseased areas of the tree but did not spray the healthy areas. Now the disease has spread to the entire tree. They diagnosed the disease correctly but did not treat the tree in a timely manner and did not stop the progression of the disease like they promises that they would. Anyway, a very expensive treatment with zero results and no apologies. 2 stars for eventually showing up and answering phone calls. read more

Had Ryan come out to remove two Arbor Vitae Kelly Green evergreens. Originally I asked if they could come out and move them to a different location in our back yard. They said that chances were pretty good that the trees wouldn't survive the relocation, so they declined to even give me a bid. Another company gave me a bid of $650. Trees were around 11" tall. After reading some recommendations online, I decided it was not worth the effort and risk to try and move them, so I called Ryan back to get a bid to cut them down. They gave me a bid and to me it was a "no brainer" and I told them to come out at "get er done". The communication between the service area and myself was excellent. Guys got here yesterday AM, arrived a tad early, did their job of removal, plus ground out the stumps, then replaced what dirt and/or mulch back into the remaining holes. Cleaned up the area, then left. Total process took about 20 minutes. 100% satisfied. My experience with Ryan is that they are not the cheapest, nor the most expensive, but their work is always first class. After reading other reviews on the sprinkler system guy, I will relay our issues. He winterized our system after checking it out. The same guy activated it. But, guess what, he said 3 things needed repair/replacement for $116 besides the $84 to turn it on. I asked for an itemized bill to see how much labor was involved and they just broke it out by the 3 pieces. He wasn't here an hour and that included testing the areas and I looked up the pieces online and none were more than $20. So, we were charged about $60 to $80 labor. Since we had a cold snap, I didn't turn the system on until today. It ran from 2am until I manually turned it off at 11:30am. Since it wasn't obvious it was running until the same heads were on again. I looked at the setting and one area was set for over 3 hours and another was set for over 5 hours. It's bad enough to get screwed on labor but then to get screwed on our water bill is unacceptable. DO NOT USE them for your sprinkler system. I had a guy in Vegas do our system and the parts were so cheap he never even charges us for them, just the labor. read more

Unfortunately, I can't rate this company a 0. I scheduled a sprinkler start up and backflow inspection in mid-April for a May 3 appointment (1pm - 5pm window). Ryan Lawn and Tree never confirmed appointment, never showed up and never responded to my emails. If you make a commitment to be at a customer's home, make it with no excuses. We have had Ryan assisting us with our yard for more than 10 years. They are so nice about providing their best service for the minimal care that we have for our yard. There are not a lot of options for sustainability but our yard is challenging because of the many large trees and so much shade. They are more that patient with our questions. I also know that when it is time to trim our trees we will be calling Ryan because we know they will be safe and know what they are doing. We have made the mistake of accepting a door to door tree trimming gang and will not do that again, so it is nice to know we have experts just a phone call away for any of our yard questions and concerns. read more

UPDATE (06.19.2018): Ok, maybe I was a tad frustrated when I wrote my initial review. I still think the scheduling process is broken at Ryan Lawn & Tree, but the workers came out today and completed the job. The workers were friendly, helpful, and professional. They asked me if I wanted to keep some wood for my fire pit and cleaned up ALL debris after the job was completed. I've updated my score to 4 stars because of my positive experience today. I will probably use Ryan Lawn & Tree for my future tree installations AND wait to post reviews until I've calmed down :/ read more

If I had not been home the wrong Rose of Sharon tree would have been cut down. I had no advance notice of their coming out to do this work.

I was a patron of this firm years ago and couldn't have been happier. They saved the day back then however that was 25 years ago and customer service is now lacking. I signed back up this year and maybe I was late calling them but they assured me I would have no issues. Then the crab grass came in and guess what they told me? Yes, I was late calling them. Well if I was late and the chemical they were putting down wasn't going to work then why charge me $$$ for something that according to them had no chance of working. When other weeds appeared again it was my fault. I complained and was told that if I spent some more money and have my yard re-seeded that would help. You must be kidding! Poor service followed by poor communication doesn't have a chance today. read more

I called them and they said they sent out 2 post cards and called me twice. think I would have remembered that. Also equipment they installed last summer is not working. They said they could not make it to my house for another 4 weeks. Good example of a company growing to fast, customer service going down hill. I am paid up for lawn service for the year as well. I hired Ryan Lawn to seed my lawn during the fall. None of the seeding was successful. I have a sprinkler system and followed their watering directions exactly. When I called to ask for my $500.00 to be refunded, Tim, my lawn person from Ryan Lawn, rudely refused and accused me of seeding too late. They had other customers ahead of me, so I was at their mercy for a seeding date! ever since Tim was treating my lawn, my lawn went downhill. He did offer to reseed in the spring, but I declined because of their poor seeding performance. I would never recommend Ryan Lawn after this experience and the rude way in which I was treated by Tim! read more

We paid Ryan a ton of money to have our yard power-raked and re-seeded. They put just as much grass seed into our landscape beds as they did into our yard. We've contacted them twice to come out and fix it and still NOTHING... so angry. These were all new landscape beds we just had done this summer, and now they're thick with grass... seriously. Still trying to get them to resolve the problem, and of course they wanted to be paid within 15 days... before the grass became evident in the landscape beds. And now that we've already paid them apparently there's no incentive for them to correct the problem. Unbelievable from a company that is supposedly a trusted name in this field. read more

Utilized Ryan for 3 - 4 years for both my lawn and sprinkler system. I would give them one star for irrigation because quite frankly not sure they would know whether a system was adequately covering the lawn or not. I ended up getting a true irrigation company to setup and maintain and they were much better. Their lawn care was better but that seems to vary by whoever the specialist that gets assigned. First couple of years were great but as they changed coverage the lawn look deteriorated and they were much more interested in up selling than the look of the lawn. Finally last fall they never showed up to do the final winterizing and never bothered to tell me that that they inadvertently cancelled my account. I will be looking for a new company now. read more
