VCA Central Kitsap recently went above and beyond to help our family with our pet emergency. Our…read morepet was in medical distress in the middle of the day, and our regular vet was unable to see us. We rushed to the VCA as they have an emergency room, as were met at the door and our pet was ushered into the back room immediately. The doctor on duty informed us that it was a serious event, and gave us options. Needless to say we asked to have our pet brought into the room with us while we discussed our options. The staff was very understanding, explained everything, and never rushed us while we mentally processed what we wanted to do. We made a decision, and were treated with the utmost compassion for our pet, and our family. It was a very difficult time, but VCA were so professional and helped us through it all. We are very thankful.

I called my usual vet and she didn't have the opportunity to attend to the situation fast enough so she recommended VCA. First time going to this hospital so we hoped they could address the situation quickly. And it appears they did but their first response was we see fluid in the abdominal cavity, we don't know what it is or where it's coming from. At this point, they promoted euthanasia. We asked that take further steps to see if they could find the cause of the symptoms and they did. It's blood and there's a mass on the spleen and liver. Again they promote euthanasia. I tell them that I feel like we're speeding to a conclusion with no facts or at least facts they did not communicate effectively in a very stressful situation. So I try to slow it down to ask questions. Can you stop the bleeding? Answer: no. Can you give him a blood transfusion? Answer: no, we do not have any blood products. My question is why does a hospital not have blood products? Do they not do surgeries? Do they do anything to help your pet? Do they go above and beyond? Or do they just want to kill your pet so they can go home for the day? I have many questions! At this point, I ask okay, so my options are euthanasia or pick him up and maybe he dies. Answer: yes. All I know is that we were backed into a corner with bad answers and nowhere to turn but to put our dog to sleep. I'm mad and very sad that I was put into that place! I still have many questions and feel like we could have saved our pet's life given he was in the right hands. My personal opinion only...from a very sad dog mom. And in my personal opinion, something is not right here.

However....on July 7th at 10:15am, whichever front desk assistant was working, needs customer service training right away!! We called because after our pups 3 year annual check up on April 30th m, we told the doctor that the Trio tablets he was taking was difficult for him and would always spit it out. This is the heart worm, flea and ticker pill. We asked to change to the NEX/Heartgard chewables because he liked those. No problem. They put in order for us to pick up at Costco after is May pill to start in June. This is where everything after went downhill. Called the VCA end of May for the order. Asked about Heartgard Plus and they said it wouldn't be a problem and we'd pick it up from Costco. Went to Costco to pick up the medication and almost couldn't get it because our pups name was spelled wrong. Then they had some other address on Silverdale Way (where we never lived before in our lives) but thankfully our phone number and my name was right. The order was just the NEXgard. Ok..... So I called the VCA and asked if we could still the place a prescription order for the Heartgard Plus or just the Heartgard because Costco only gave us the NEXgard. The lady states "we don't carry Nexgard or Heartgard". I said that I know and that's why we had the prescription ordered to Costco. She then states "How about we start with your name" which I did state who I was in the beginning but...got it. Then she proceeds to tell me that our pup "would need to be tested for heart worms before on a medication otherwise he'd die". That's where I was turned off quickly. He JUST had his annual check up, why didn't they do it then? I told her that I saw his screening need to be done in March and we were told that was part of it. Nope! Called the other VCA on Bucklin Hill and they asked the same questions I did. In short, we went to VCA for our pup at Bucklin Hill for an emergency and the staff was wonderful, unlike the one here on Bryon St. There's literally no parking here. Office is small. Doctors are short with you as well to get you in and out. Definitely just business here and not community friendly.

The experience was great from taking her in for pre-surgery labs to picking her up after surgery. The Dr called us before he started surgery to let us know what he was expecting to do. Then called us again after he was done. Answered our questions and was very nice. The staff was friendly every time we went in and when we called for an update. Discharge instructions were gone over with us so we understood everything before we left. Bonus: they do a military discount which was very much appreciated!! Is it worth the drive?...yes

Refused to phone, fax or digitally send script anywhere besides their business partner. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! THEY ADMITTED TO PRESCRIBING UNNECESSARY MEDICATIONS AND TO PARTNERING WITH CHEWY. I am certain they will deny it below. The worst part is that we called beforehand to confirm all of these things and they were not up front about any of it. At one point there were no fewer than SIX employees surrounding me at the front desk when I asked for clarification of their policies. I felt threatened and bullied into swiping my credit card AGAIN! Do not waste ANY of your time or money here. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE WELL BEING OF YOUR PETS!!!

We've been trying for a week to get our puppy in here to finish enrollment in one of their "wellness" plans that they'll never push on everyone and it's been so incredibly frustrating. Twice now we've had to deal with appointments made online not showing in their system, then when we finally get one in their system, we end up dealing with multiple phone calls because they want to keep changing his appointment to meet their staffing needs. Less than 24 hours before his appointment they call to ask if we can reschedule to an earlier time, it's not ideal, but I can take a bit of time off work to make it happen so I agree. Then the morning of his now rescheduled appointment they call again asking if we can move it to a completely different day because they don't have staff. Seriously??? You want me to rearrange my entire calendar because your office can plan staffing? I tell them I'll have to call back after speaking with my spouse, and when I call back I immediately get put on hold. Hung up after 10 minutes of being on hold. I get being short staffed, but if you don't have the staff to ensure that you can take in patients then don't advertise and hard sell an expensive annual plan that customers will never be able to use. Our dog was never actually seen by anyone at this office, we've decided to find a more professional and reliable vet in the area to care for our puppy, if this is our experience as a potential new customer I can only imagine how much worse it gets once they have you locked into an annual plan. TLDR: I would steer clear of Banfield in Silverdale, save yourself the time and money and find an actual vets office in the area.

The adoption process was simple especially during COVID. Sign up for a time slot and you have the opportunity to meet two potential candidates during that time slot. The shelter is brand new and clean. The staff was very courteous and friendly. Our initial pick was not available and was being adopted as we were waiting which is a good thing. However as we were walking inside, we discovered out future little kitty in the corner and decided to call her our own. With each adoption, they give you a bag of food to go with your little buddy. A few months after our adoption, Kitsap Humane reached out to us to check in on how things were going which was very thoughtful. I recommend Kitsap Humane!
